This tale teaches that association with the wicked should always be avoided. After his father’s death, Bhattanātha had no one to restrain his reckless behavior. Following the advice of evil friends, he wasted his wealth on pleasures and vices. Cheats deceived him, and he suffered great losses in trade. Finally, in despair, he attempted suicide by hanging himself from a beam. The beam broke, and inside it were hidden gold coins. Gaining wisdom, he used that wealth carefully and began a new business.
