सङ्कल्पमात्रेण किम् ?

कस्मिंश्चित् गुरुकुले बहुधा स्मारितं चेदपि पञ्चषाः छात्राः तत्तदिनस्य पाठं तद्दिने एव न पठन्ति स्म । तथापि गुरुः तान् न अतर्जयत् । कदाचित् गुरुः नदीतीरे सञ्चरन् दर्शयति यत् त्रिषु मण्डूकेषु एकः जलं प्रति कूर्दनं करणीयम् इति सङ्कल्पमात्रं करोति न तु कूर्दनम् । यस्य सङ्कल्पः दृढः सः एव कार्ये प्रवृत्तः भवेत् । तत्तदिनस्य पाठं तत्तदिने एव पठित्वा तस्य मननं कुर्यात् । अनन्तरदिनतः ते शिष्याः अध्ययने श्रद्धां प्रदर्शितवन्तः प्रगतिं च साधितवन्तः।

At a certain Gurukul, five students did not study properly. However, the Guru did not scold them. One day, while walking by the river, the Guru showed them that out of three frogs, one only thought about jumping into the water but never actually did it. The Guru explained that only when the intention is strong, does the action happen. He advised the students to study the lesson that day itself and reflect on it. From then on, the students became more serious about their studies and made progress.
