दक्षिणभारतस्य बळ्ळारिसंस्थानं शिवराजसैन्यं स्वाधीनम् यदा अकरोत् तदा बळ्ळारिसंस्थानस्य राज्ञी मालादेवी शिवराजस्य पुरतः उपस्थापिता सती पराधीनजीवनं निराकृत्य मरणदण्डनं याचितवती । तदा शिवराजः तस्यां मातृत्वं दृष्वा अज्ञानात् यत् आक्रमणं कृतं तदर्थं क्षमाम् अयाचत । बळ्ळारिसंस्थानं च स्वतन्त्रम् अकरोत् च । शिवराजस्य औदार्यस्य विनयस्य च दर्शनात् मालादेव्याः हृदयं भावनिर्भरं जातम् ।

Once, Shivaji’s army attacked Ballari and defeated them. When Queen Maladevi of Ballari was brought before Shivaji, she refused to live under someone else's control and pleaded for a death sentence.
