Once, Buddha’s disciple named Kashyapa used his knowledge of mantras to lift a golden sandalwood pot from a pillar while seeking alms. When Buddha heard this, he told Kashyapa that the pot was not his and that his effort has led him downward. Kashyapa, surprised, asked how such a display of skill could be wrong. The Buddha explained that the monk, though free from desires, was driven by past attachments and delusions, and such actions would lead him downward.
