And on YouTube, as always, I am Brandon Wilson, your host, lifelong Florida Gators fan at the host of locked on gators. They're right about the Florida Gators.
You're swamp single, that's sub-sack.com. And yeah, that one sucked. 91.74, we're going to talk about it. First, college basketball is non-stop big games, tight spreads, momentum swings, every single night from early tip-offs to late night west coast, shootouts. There's always action on the board. And now Fando is giving you a way to turn that energy into even bigger potential wins with a college basketball car like profit boost. Build any college hoops far away you want. Go save, go bold. Hate your life sometimes, right? Head to fandoah.com to get started at fandoah.com. Fandoah will play your game. And oh my goodness, man, man, man, man, man. Where do we even start with that game? Florida lost 91.74 to Vanderbilt. And I mean, look, look, Florida showed up to the SEC tournament yesterday. Did not play well, but walked away with a victory. And Todd Golding kind of went, you know what?
Don't worry, we're going to straighten them out right now. Like, we're going to get them going. We're going to get things right. We're going to do this. We're going to do that. And then Vanderbilt called 1-800-SPANK-BET-S on everybody. Like, I don't know how else to describe it. But that's just what happened. I know there's people that are going to react a lot to different things. Why be mad at the basketball? Just make it more highly Arkansas wins it. That's good English there, buddy. You're really smart. I could tell by that one. We'll pick Sui. But the Florida Gators didn't show up to play in the SEC tournament. There's going to be people that look at this and say, you know, it's a learning experience, right? That Florida needed this swift kick in the rear, right? There's going to be a bunch of things. I frankly just, just to be like, I wanted to come on here and have a true thought on it in the sense of, you know,
always just a learning experience. Is this a sign of things to come? What is this? I really don't know. Just that I know that for Florida, you just got your ass kicked in the SEC semifinal. And that you didn't play well yesterday, either in the SEC quarter final. And if you're going to come out and you're going to play games where you aren't defending well, you're going to lose. Like you're going to lose that little Vanderbilt shot an unreal 48% from three in this game, right? Where their best shooter shot one for six from three. Everybody was on fire except for Nickel. You got your ass kicked by Miss Chanandler-Bong out there. Like it was just, it was rough. But it's tough because I want to say, oh, you know, Vanderbilt was just hot. But at the same time, Kentucky was left wide open multiple times
yesterday, too, right? Like that's it. Like Kentucky was wide open yesterday, too. And they just missed. And you could have easily lost against Kentucky. They just shot horribly. You shot horribly as well. Florida shot 29% in this game from three. But I mean, Xavier and Lee, one for five from three, two for eight from the field. Thomas Howe, five for 14 from the field, one for four from three. For bondclubs are one for one from three. Why the hell is he the guy shooting one time from three? It makes no sense. If you're going to hype him up and talk about how he's the SEC six man of the year, which deserved, right? He got to draw something up for him at some point. I was through these two games in the SEC tournament.
I hated how Isaiah Brown played for most of them. Most his minutes at least where it felt like he was passing up. And look, he hasn't been shooting well. I'm not saying he's been shooting well, but he's been passing up open shot to then dribble into traffic and then try to force something up or be forced to kick out of it. And it's like, just take the open shot. It's there. Like just have the confidence to take that shot. You're wide open. You've hit plenty of times before. Like do what you got to do to win there. It's as simple as that. Like obviously it's not as simple, but do what you have to do to win. You destroyed Vanderbilt on the boards, but again, turnovers kill you. And look, Florida had nine turnovers in the first half. You only had five in the second half. But the nine turnovers that you had in the first half, Vanderbilt had 20 points off those turnovers. And what we talked about before the game, the pre show, was is when you turn the ball over, it can't, like not to deal.
They can't be steals because steals lead to transition points. And if teams are keeping up with you in transition points, then you're going to lose. Right, like the commentators kept on my how Florida was doing such a great job on the offensive glass. It's like, yeah, no, duh. You were shooting like crap out there. You were shooting like crap and then turning the ball over. Like work on the offensive glass matters a lot more when you're not turning the ball over because then you're getting the extra shots and the extra possessions. If you're getting the offensive rebound, but you're turning the ball over a ton, that negates, like I try to add rebounds to turnovers or rebounds to seals, right? And for everybody talking about, you know, it's a wake up call to this, it's a, I don't know if it is. Like I'm going to be really like, you're either going to fix it or they're not, right? But this is a team that two games in a row has not played well. Defense has not been where it should have been. Florida deserves a three seat now, Houston takes the one.
Think about that again, because that's not how math works. Just use the brain a little bit. But Florida, all performance there, is it better to have this now? I don't know because this team's playing like crap. And we were told yesterday, you know, we're going to lie it into them. We're going to straighten some things out and then they came out and didn't do that. Like they didn't play significantly better. They still didn't defend well. Still way too many open looks from three. I'm like Vanderbilt hit some contested threes as well. How they had an ad one three. But I mean, you can't give teams just open threes like that. And I'm not saying any of this to take away from Vanderbilt. I like Vanderbilt played a better game. They just did. But I mean, to me, the bigger concern is the defense right now. Because that is the thing that all season, your defense is like, all right. This is what we do. Offense isn't working. Breeze aren't falling. It doesn't matter. We're playing defense.
And this game, not so much. I mean, Vanderbilt shot 55% from the field. 48% from free 91% from the free throw line. Now, I mean, it's there's no other way to put it than it sucked, right? I mean, 10 or a mile is combined for what 35 points 15 assists six steals and five boards. I mean, it's just ridiculous. You got to get better play from people like Chen you let six rebounds. And look, I will say this again, because I know that everybody's going to complain about the refs and paddams and all that. I understand it. I do I hate them too, right? But the refs didn't leave open shooters on the perimeter all game. The refs didn't literally just hand the ball off on one possession to Vanderbilt's defenders.
The refs didn't turn the ball over. The refs didn't play bad defense. That ain't the refs. The refs didn't shoot 29% from three. That ain't the refs. That's you. Like, yeah, the refs suck, but refs always suck. We talk about that all the time. That's why I don't care if the refs suck. Like, that's why I don't care. And like Neil said, you can't complain about the refs when you get belted. You can't. The referees calling this game better would not have been a 17 point swing. No shot. And I don't care that the foul calls were fairly similar because there was that one possession where there were three. You got, they played better than you. They kicked the crap out of you for what? We'll say 28 minutes or so. They just take the crap out of you. There's no complaining about the refs. I guess we had, like we've said here before.
The refs always suck. You don't get that excuse when you get blown out. You don't get that excuse when you get blown out. Karma, TG, karma, you suck, national championship, but you're never going to see it in your lifetime. So let's bring that one in a little bit. Congrats on the window. Genuine. Congrats on the win, hell of a game. But just know your role, show your mouth, you know how it goes. We'll talk more about this game and Florida's future when we get back with Lock on Gators. It's the best. Find your new favorite flavor of five-hour energy shots available online at five-hour energy.com or on Amazon. Nice to have for you lockdown gators, you're first listen of the day, every day, we are
available daily and free. It was a podcast and on YouTube and the floor to gators, wow, in this one, it was a really interesting defensive approach for Florida, right? Because again, Florida's defense has been the thing that's carried them throughout really the entirety of the season. They're often really picked up over the course of the season, but their defense is we carry them throughout the entirety of the season. They still have the number six defense in the country right now and can bomb number nine offense. But the defensive approach in this game, it was fun, it was new. I hope we never see it again of what if we just left everybody open at all times? And I think they are seeing, you know, if there are any, if there are any big men that can shoot threes, it's probably going to be an issue for Florida right now because they're
just not defending that well. They really have, they're not defending that well at all right now. Everything is always blamed on refs. I don't blame there for this loss. They didn't help, but as I said, if Kentucky could hit a shot, they would have upset because yesterday, Vandy hit the shot. Yeah, Jared, that's, that's it. That's it. Because for Florida, like, you had wide open, you left wide open shooters yesterday against Kentucky. You left wide open shooters yet today against Vanderbilt, Vanderbilt just hit the shots. I still don't know what this person is. Sometimes shots don't fall as you should have learned today. Yeah, I don't think, you know, we're talking about we watch this team shoot. 21% from three to start the year. Okay. Oh, Kentucky fan, that makes sense. Jared, by the way, Brandon, long time watch your first time catching you live. Your show is great. Thank you, Jared. Appreciate you. Michigan is with Florida thought they were. I don't think that's true. Just because Michigan's been at the top of the, at the top, it's just about every ranking
since the start of the year. Michigan's been a dominant team the whole time. You don't go 16 and two in the SEC without being a great team. It's one game people. Is it though? It's one loss. It's one loss. The last one looked like you reported it live and you're feels, hey, man, Saturdays are for feeling. Game days are for feeling, but especially Saturdays are for feeling. And so we're feeling in that one. But yeah, you know, I think that for Florida, like, I don't know if it's just one game. That's where I'm torn on because I want to say, like, oh, you needed this little punch in the mouth. You needed this punch in the mouth to get things right and to get things going and to correct the issues that need to be corrected if you want to make the run. But this is now two games in a row directly where the opposing team had wide open shooters the whole time and two games in a row where you turn the ball over an egregious amount
of times and two games in a row where you couldn't hit the open shots when you got them. And it's that for me that's making it more, more, more concerning. It's not just one game to me because this happened yesterday too. You just won the game yesterday when that happened. But what Florida did there today was the same thing they did yesterday, Vanderbilt just kicked your ass when you did it. That's the thing that I get concerned about this team is that it's not one thing. It's not one game. This is back-to-back games coming off that week off and now I frankly, I'm going to say this. I don't care about like the whole one seed to seed thing either way. You're going to be considered one of the best teams in the tournament. That's going to be very well decided. You're going to be considered one of the best teams in the tournament.
The last time you lost, you went on an insane tag, right? So I don't necessarily care about that. But I do think that the way you lost, and I don't even mean the blowout, I just mean the process to getting you defeated is the concerning part for me. Because the way that you've played these past two, three games, I'm going to say these past three games because I was very public last Saturday. I was not a fan of how full of a play against Kentucky in the regular season finale. So I'm going to say that the past three games you've played have not been the way you should have played, right? You didn't have as many turnovers against Kentucky the first time. If you did have turnovers like that, you would have lost, but Kentucky still got plenty of open threes. You still had that issue, right? And so, yeah, there's concerns there.
Clovstar seems like he can't create his own shot. I think that he kind of can't, I think he's like average at it. So I think if he's got an average defender on him, then maybe I like the way that Aron kind of works his way, like when he works his way down into the paint and gets guys up in the air and so, and so converts, I love when he does that. My thing is I think you should have had, I think that you should have had more plays drawn up for Arvon to get a look just to get a look way around it falls like he can't be having one 3.10 in this game. And so I think when we're talking about this, like still talking about regular season hands, I don't care about regular season, I'm going to be honest with you, I care about, frankly, the tournament, like the SEC tournament is fun to win, but there's one tournament that really, really, really matters.
And that's the one that we know like Florida wants to go for, right? And I'm not saying the Florida can't win at all. I'm just saying that you've got things to correct going into March Madness now. You've got some glaring things to correct going into March Madness. You didn't shoot well today. You didn't shoot well yesterday at all. Shot what three for 20 yesterday from three, shot five for 17 in this one, which isn't the worst, but it's not good. Like like five for 17, I'm fine with that being your off night. If that's your off night, that's your off night. But for Florida, like I don't know why they didn't hammer into the paint more, like force your way in with cotton. When he's working down low and he's just being aggressive, it's worked. I, I, it works. Moving chin you though, go ahead. I don't get it. And yes, I know, I know people can keep talking about the refs and people can keep talking about that. I don't give a damn about the rest, frankly.
I really don't, like I, I really don't care about the refs because again, refs didn't give up 48% from three, refs didn't give up 55% from the field, refs didn't turn the ball over 14 times nine in the first half. The refs didn't do those things. That's it. And so for people talking about like, well, Florida lose the first seat, I don't know and I don't really care. I can tell you that if you're talking about, you know, the past few months, if you're talking about from the turn of the new year, there aren't four teams that have played better than Florida. But we'll see what happens with, with what seed they get either way. Again, I don't really care. I think this seems going to be looked at as one of your national champion favorites. Whether they're one seed or two seed does not matter to me.
They're going to be looked at one as your, as one of your national championship favorites. They have a roster that can win it all. They have a coach that can win it all for the second time. They've got plenty there. Jill and already said in the post game, the Florida probably stays at a one seed there. Because I also think that you're talking about losing to a team that's about to play for the conference championship. And that matters. So I don't care if you're a one or a two. Personally, that doesn't matter to me. Just win whoever you have. Just win whatever game beat whoever's in front of you and win there. I don't give a damn what it is. You've got things to correct. Your defense was a mess these past two days. You can't shoot from three or you couldn't shoot from three these past two days. And maybe it's the arena, right? Maybe it was just not being comfortable in the arena. We know that the commentators were saying during the Kentucky game that outside of the shoot around, they hadn't been in the arena before.
So they hadn't played with, which I don't really care about either. But Florida has things to correct. You've got a few days to figure it out. I have full faith that Todd Gull and his coaching staff are going to try to light a fire under this roster's ass. But they also said they were going to do that after the Kentucky game. And then we saw this effort come out. Out of the way it is, but to me, it felt like Florida played. Like they already won the national championship. Like that's how Florida was playing. Like they're like, oh, we got this. We're about to ask against everybody. This is ours. That's it. Florida is one of 68 teams who win the tournament. No, they're not. There's like at, at best. Eight teams that actually have a chance at it. Like the most, most teams cannot win the tournament. And for Florida, you need more from your guards.
You need better from your guards. I'll say that too. Boogie. Boogie played all right. He scored. Like I think his stats are a little inflated because of late scoring. Same thing was avianly. I think he's avianly played poorly. But you can't have the turnovers. You need to find a way to just force more. Turnovers. Vanderbilt's guards had what. Like one for most of the game and then kind of started turning things over later on. Got to figure things out. But you got your ass kicked. And so this team is who many of us think this team is. When we talk about losing games against, you know. The likes of Auburn, where this is Florida's first loss since that Auburn loss. Losing to Missouri. Losing to Arizona Open a year. And then rebound and lay. All right. Well, now's the time to do it. If this team is who we think they are. Spin the block on them.
Come back. And hey. Let's see if you're capable of going back to back. But that was an embarrassing performance. I hope Vanderbilt wins the SEC championship. You know, be honest. I'm just saying you can only win if you play. Yeah, you can only win if you play. But not everybody that plays has to answer when it. But for Florida, you got to figure some things out and you got to figure a lot of things out. And let me tell you, you don't have a lot of time to do it. So I hope that the coaching staff really just lights that fire right under their ass and get some going. Because tomorrow's selection Sunday. And it's right back to work. Thanks for making a lot on Gators. You're first listen of the day every day. We are available daily and free Web as the podcast and on YouTube. For a lot of time, I'm Brandon Olson.
