Turtleneck & Chain Part 4: Trouble on Dookie Island

About this episode

On this episode of The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast… Seth is gone but we have the “Threeodores” so we’re good. Andy talks about what he had for breakfast over the Oppenheimer score before the guys move on to talking about “Turtleneck and Chain,” focusing on the track “Trouble on Dookie Island,” describing its Wu-Tang/Raekwon/Ghostface homage, B-Sides beat, and the Scarface intro recreated for free by Michael Bolton! They play and dissect lyrics, debate misheard lines on lyric sites, and explain the “dookies” concept. Jorma shares multiple Howard Parker voiceover takes of “Trouble on Dookie Island” and the MacGruber-inspired origin of that title. They wrap up by looking back on the “Falcor vs. Atreyu” sketch from their album, teasing “Watch Me Do Me” and the surprising old-school inspiration for some of their comedy.

Let me join my thing I know, I'm on the own top of my fucking show! Three, three adores! Finally! Welcome to the first edition of Three Three Adores. Oh, who's gonna be the most polite and shy? I said it on accident right out of the gate, but it should just be called three adores. Three adores, yeah. I knew I wasn't gonna... See, I wasn't gonna jump down your throat because I'm so fucking nice. Ah, that is very nice. And maybe caffeinated. I've had a couple of jobs. Yeah. Three adores also works because we adore each other. And we're always saying that. That's like that Miley Cyrus song. Like when people say to you, you're like, Oh, and you work with those guys, Andy and Keeva, you always go, Oh! I adore them. Oh, I adore them. I adore them. I'm just having my first little sips over here on the west coast of my job. It's right here. Yeah, and you got a espresso, you got a drip, what you working with Keeva? Yeah, it's a drip from a mocha master, but my wife is the mocha master of the house, not me. Totally understood.

Tell him about your cup, and I'm drinking out of a late night with Seth Meyers Cup in honor of him not being here. Yeah. Get ready for this to be off the rails, guys. Seth is not here. Yeah, it's gonna be a sloppy ass mess. When the Dave's away, the sea adores will, the three adores will play. Now, Andy, you just completed your barbenheimer. When was the first, when did you watch Barbie? You've seen that, or have you not? I saw neither in the theater. Classic. I saw Barbie probably right around when it came on demand or whatever at home. And then? And then I finally just watched Oppenheimer last night on an iPad as it was intended. Oh, that's how he wanted it. He kept saying that, right? Don't watch in the theaters. Why is everyone doing this to me? Apologies. Did you have headphones on? Don't ask me that, because you know I have to tell the truth, like Jim Carrey and Lier Lier. Well, you made that pact with the devil. I just watched it sitting in bed on an iPad, Keith. But you know what? Still rocked. Wait, how did that not bother your wife if she's not watching it, but she's just hearing it?

Or is she not there? Yeah, the back, I mean, I had already watched like a good hour and a half of it without her even in the room. Got it. And he did either of your kids walk by when you were watching it on an iPad out of the speakers and say, You know, that's not how we intended you to watch it. No, neither. Okay. Not enough. So, you know, like, is that nudity really necessary? It was. By the end, you're like, oh, of course, it was. Got it. I thought it fucked hard, you guys. Yeah, he lived life to the fullest in all respects, and you need to know that. Once you know them equations, the honey's come a colon. So I was texting with a key of a arm, and I wanted to repeat, I don't know if he's the first person to say this, but it made me giggle, which was, I noted how the movie is three hours, but the score, the music is playing the entirety of it. Oh, yeah. And I was like, I really loved it, but man, the score is wall to wall. It's like a three hour montage, and he was like, yeah, it's good fellows for math. I think I made that up. I think we can coin that.

That's great. That's super accurate. Yeah, I thought you were going to say that the score was longer than the movie. And I'm been like, yeah, that seems possible. And I sent him a voice note saying, would you say that good fellows walk so Oppenheimer could. I feel like it's less of those like Hans Zimmer style walls. It's less, it's less, but it was a good job because it's Ludwig, and he's doing more. The score as in every crystal movie is just fucking fantastic. The main like, synthy theme part of it I was in heaven. What's like gravity level intense, too, right? It's just like, oh, fuck, the world's going to end if they don't go to the bathroom right now. I mean, as Dela would say, steaks is high when you're making the A-bomb. If I put that on and you just talked about what you had for breakfast, do you think it would get pretty interesting? I would like to try. This is a test, Danny. Okay. I poured myself coffee and I knew that I had to drink it since I'm important. I knew. Not that cup.

I picked some food off the kids' plate. They had left because I didn't want to throw it away. I couldn't throw it away. I had to eat it. You do need dialogue. You need to be wasted. Yeah, this is the main part. I thought about... Don't throw that cereal away! You think some sort of a breakfast bar, but I was like, no, it's too much of it. It's too much of it. Try and get back. I can't do it. It's not not bad milk. Pour me some milk, please. Where are you? The thing that we have to understand is... You're my dog! I need the mocha master. Why is the coffee... I don't know how to use the mocha master. And as I ground the coffee, little flex flew up into the sky, and I saw it also clearly. The universe connected. The space between what I had to do. Be conflicted about everything I did in my entire life. Okay, great. It was a good movie. Now you sound like an idiot. As soon as I turned it off. Yeah, at the very end, I sounded like a dumb shit. So can we have sex or what? Bwaap! It's so good. Shout out, Ludwig. Still killing it after all these years. Hey, I got a question about last episode. I think since we got a rehash for at least 20 minutes, did you guys notice my piece of audio that I kept playing

that I don't think you guys noticed? I don't know if anybody... I did notice. Okay. And then I kept looking at your face and thinking there was just a lay on your Zoom. I had queued up this piece of audio that said, oh yeah! On my P4. We really thought that somebody was going to call me out on it and so I'm curious that any listeners actually noticed that I kept saying, oh yeah! And the same annoying voice. I was just trying to annoy people. It's a great pod. Check back in, guys. You never know what's going to happen. Oh, okay. What are we talking about? It is in the proverbial tittis. Did you notice your arms thing? Yeah. What are we talking about today, guys? Day-day. We're going to just jump into the next Turtle-like and Chainsome right into Trouble on Duky Island. Ah, a classic. No, I'll start it off. Thank you. For the inspo. Was there any Trouble on Duky Island that morning? That is not what it's about. Oh, that is... This is not a gizmo pants situation where it's like ripped from the headlines of Yoram's childhood.

You know what I mean? Right, right, right. So no one is having any bathroom issues. No, it's not mine. Yoram. I didn't expect you to say that. In front of the inspo. Yeah, I mean, we've all had embarrassing elements and I don't want to be single now. I mean, the beat was, let's start at the beginning. We heard this beat and we were like, oh, God. Like, as... Let's be real. Backpack, rap enthusiasts. And Wu Tang heads. And all things ghost and ray. Lovers, let's say. There's a lot of them out there. Now, is this a B-sides beat? It is B-sides, yes. I feel like when we heard it, we were like... We knew there was going to be a sample and it was going to be expensive and we were like, we don't care. This is what we want to rap on. Sorry. This is what we want to rap on. Thank you. Mm-hmm. Usually we wait, but I'm going to just play the beginning so people can remember what kind of beat it is. Because it's... It's by B-sides and it's kind of like a just blaze. Just blaze style, sample heavy beat. Mm-hmm. Yeah, as soon as...

Yeah, as soon as... Hey, come on, rockin' me. Need a background like me. All I have in this world is my body. My world, I don't wake up. I don't hop down the whip. Pop the heater out the clubby. Okay, so let's start with great beat. And then we have a Scarface sample at the beginning. You may have noticed, Norm. I did notice and that came about... Tell him, Andy. How? Well, that's our good friend, Michael Bolton. And the reason is we had already made the Jack Sparrow song with him at this point. Yeah. And we haven't... Have we talked about Jack Sparrow yet? Did we do the whole episode? No, no, no. Because the video's still coming. But, okay, so we'll talk about that more later. But basically through the process of working with Michael Bolton on Jack Sparrow and through our rewriting process, we learned he had a Scarface impression. And so once we knew that, it was kind of just kismet,

because we were like, these kinds of songs always start with a Scarface sample. And I would say there's got to be at least 10 songs in this genre of hip-hop that start with a Scarface sample or end with a Scarface sample. So we had the bright idea to get him to reproduce the lines from Scarface and use it on the album. So it's his second appearance on the album. Well, to be fair though, we did look up how much a Scarface sample would cost. And it was $10,000 for each sample. So it would have been $20,000 for the two lines. And then we asked Michael Bolton if he would do it for Franny. He said yes. Just to hear how good it is, here's criminology from the Rayquan album from 95, only built for Cuban links. The classic. That's a big album. I might add a featuring ghostface, but just hear some Scarface. It told you a long time ago. Fuck off of you, fuck off of me! I'm not fucking a... Who the fuck do you think you go?

I'm what? Fuck off of you! What's up with your hair? I'm what I am for man, you I'm what I am for man. I'm what I am for man, you I'm what I am for man! I'm what I am for man, you I'm what I am for man! Well... So say god, damn it. Beat us so fucking raw. So, it's unbelievable. This was a big influence for all of us when this album came out. Every song in this album is sick. Rainy Day is being one of my favorite of all time. I feel like only Bill Farkuban links maybe my favorite Wu Tang album of all time. Is that true? I'm asking myself, I'm asking my brain right now. Is that true? It's definitely top five, almost certainly top three and then possibly number one. You have to put 36 chambers at number one just for being the one. Yeah. It depends when your criteria is. That's correct. Like, is it like front to back every song you love and feel like is perfect or is it like your favorite songs are on that album? You know? Yeah. OK. I'll think about that. It has so many fucking heaters and the duo

between the two of them, the bag of forth is so great. And I actually read Rayquan's book and it's a fucking great read, although it gets into the weeds on like the inner dynamics of Wu Tang and maybe you don't want to actually read that because there's some sad stuff about like, oh, really under that. But I watched the doc. All the stuff about them, you gotta read the book. I'm a book, OK? But all the stuff with them going down, I don't know if they were in Barbados or like St. Lucia or like, but they went down and like the two of them hung out and made this album in the way that you're like, oh, they're such good buddies. And the fact that they had beef originally with different parts in New York and then became ultra homies is just great. And it really made me happy to read that stuff. Just like us, guys. Just like us. When this album came out, I just want to point to how much of a like the van diagram of what we would like at that time. This is 1995. It starts. And the music here, this is the very beginning of Only Bill for Cuban Links.

I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Tell me how you feel. Yo, son. Check the flashes, son. Yo, baby, check it, man. I got a new connection for real, man. Fuck all of a sudden. So that background music is the score from the John Woof film The Killer. That's right. And so like we, I think we talked about how which you had a poster of, Keith. Yes. I had the main movie poster. I think it's still having in my garage. But like we would go on Wednesdays. Oh, I wish I had the Oppenheimer soundtrack. Well, I need to know right now while I was saying this. Yeah, University Theater. This is pretty dramatic too. But the, we would on Wednesdays at the University Theater, which I don't think exists anymore in Berkeley. That was a huge thousand seat theater, but still played, you know, where every day it's a different movie, kind of like the New Beverly or something. Wednesday was Hong Kong cinema. But it was like while Hong Kong cinema was happening. Yeah. Because like hard boiled came out in 92. And we were probably watching it in 92 in that theater.

So we were just being introduced to... Yeah, which is where we're from. We were just being introduced to all the craziest Hong Kong stuff. And I had no idea who, you know, we were learning who liked Jet Li and Chai and Fat were tonally young. And as it was happening, they'd played Wang Kar Wai. They'd played all. But the killer and specifically hard boiled were two of our favorites. Yeah. But then for also, you know, Wu Tang had only had two other albums, right? There was only the 36 Chambers. And then maybe Method Man had come out and had Jizz's come out. When this one came out, it was... It was kind of predated, Jizz, I'd have to look it up. It was really early in their run. So it was so exciting when this album was coming out. And the fact that then it started by combining our interests. I was like, this is everything put together. Oh, it's right. It was mad. I believe the one you were calling out, you were on rainy days. Also, I'm just going to hit the beginning. I think it starts with the killer more, right? With dial off from it. From the dubbed Ph.S. Yeah. They also like comic books. Yeah.

Yeah, it's in the background again, right? She's now singing to the killer. I'll just say it sounds a little bit like Maya doing a bit. Yes. You sang beautifully just now. I sang for him and he isn't here. There's dialogue from the killer all over on other songs too. Just keep playing it. It's so good. You just want to keep playing. Fucking rob my gate, man. Or fucking, yo, my motion line. Oh my god, this is so tight. Are we not playing anything? We're going to get bonked by UMG for our song.

So we might as well get bonked by all of them. You know what I mean? We're going to get bonked, you're... There it is. That's what you're waiting for. All right. So that's the good version. Now that you understand that we were into Bhutan a lot, that brings us to hearing this beat and going, how might we do that? Well, specifically also when Rayquan and Ghostface would get together, which they often did, in their kind of back and forth style. Yes, which they didn't invent, but they definitely had their own version of that was kind of unmistakable. And honestly, a lot of Rayquan's style in particular and Ghostface, really, is... You can see in early days videos of when we made Stork Patrol. We were very inspired by... Yeah, Stork Patrol. Like, very poetic, finding crazy words for things like just... Stork Patrol is basically ice cream. Yes, yes, exactly. And wisdom body here, there's lines right from it.

What is Victoria's secret coming? Show me some love, boo. Show me the vibe and I'll be more than glad you suited through. At your peak, bitch. I know you're loving Torvius. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I know you love Victoria's e-grid. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. See. So it was a combo of wisdom body and ice cream. Yes, and I'm sure somebody... Which is just two tracks later on this album. That's how good it is. Yeah, I mean, the video for Stork Patrol answered the question, what would it be like if the guys from Stella and Wu Tang had a baby? That's exactly it. And then the highest, when we were talking about our song, the highest, we were trying to think of high songs. And it was kind of a little of this, which is a little of lazy Sunday. But then you guys, in Trouble and Duky Island, you're going straight at it. Those other ones were like, also Paul Revere and, you know, by the Beastie Boys and stuff. Yeah. This one, you're like, no, this is because of the beat.

This is strictly this... It's homage. It's homage. Yeah, we're not even being like, oh, I guess it's kind of inspired by that. We were like, oh, let's do a ghost in Rey. Yeah. Now, had you read somewhere that they had had trouble on Duky Islands of any sort, like in their bathrooms? Or... No, it's pure speculation. No one can say. I'm sure there's got to be some bathroom lines in the... You know, before we got us an L back in L.A., our friend Chester and our friend James did a thing like this. It was not comedic. They were just kind of doing it. Do you remember that? Yes, because I think it was a beat that I made. Or was it Prince... Who's your buddy? Prince Marv? What was that? Kobe? Kobe's. Kobe, like, yeah, oh my god. Who was his fucking... Prince Marvillus. Oh my god. Who made some fucking incredible... No, I don't think it was that. Was it on the Dell's beat that I made? I feel like I did the sample and fucking James and Chester to the... James and Chester to this fucking ill... It was pretty good. It was pretty good, but I can... Highest rap. But as Andy said, not intended to be funny.

A little funny. It was more funny just that it existed, but they did an excellent job of sounding like their cadence and their trade-offs and stuff. So I would be remiss to not mention that we had heard that and also Stork Patrol obviously was precursor. Yeah. This was Andy's idea, though, I will say, for the actual... Real actual... What the heist was. No, I'm not like... We wanted to do this. But it was your idea to do like a thing about like how we're shitting ourselves, like for an entire song. Yeah, no, that makes sense. But I think it really was specifically the word dukey over and over again was what... And saying it with this intensity. Oh, that's pretty much the whole song. I remember when I'd come in and ask you guys would say like, it's funny because it's never happened. It's never happened this. Wait a minute. It's like a what if. It's just like a big what if song. It's so funny, Keith. I feel like what you're getting at is like an embarrassing story of two men having accidents over and over again. But to me, it's like it's just part of the fucking frenzy. It's the mayhem. Like it's about the swirling energy of the whole fucking occurrence.

But now I think we should just play it. But before we do it... Hold on, let me let me... I have this though, too. Because there was a big part of this that we're missing. Which is the phrase trouble on dukey island. So the phrase trouble on dukey island. This comes from when I was making the Magrubber movie. I wanted to do a trailer where I think I talked about this where I said I was gonna cheat up and be like, Hey guys, Magrub's coming out like, you know, on this Thursday. I want to run and check it out. We're thinking about changing the title. Anyway, check out this trailer. And then the trailer would play at the end. Instead of saying Magrubber, it would say trouble on dukey island. And that was me the name of the movie. And then, so I got Howard Parker. Who is the voiceover extraordinaire for Universal? And he did all of these takes of it. And then I was like, well, at one season in the studio, I want to get all of these different takes for like, if it was a romantic comedy, if it was a... So he did like ten different versions of trouble on dukey island.

Trouble on dukey island. I probably have like 500 takes of him doing these different versions of it. 500? Okay. If he did 20 different takes of each version, 100. Let's say he did 100 different versions of it. Oh, shit. Yeah, because I think I gave him like 10 different versions. Suspense. Chevalent. So then we also knew New Mark, who is an incredible master DJ. Like, he was... He's our mixed master mic. And I was like, oh, like, we could chop this up and like have him do... And so that was in our arsenal of things we had. So when Andy was talking about, you know, taking dumps in a high song, perfectly. Yeah, yeah. If you got something like that in your back pocket, you got to reverse engineer a whole song back into it. You do it. Yeah, I get there. It's crazy though, because it seems like it would certainly have been... You got the professional movie VO guy after you came up with the song. Wait, so, Yorm, do you have some of those to play? I'm gonna find them. I have not looked them up. Okay.

Great prep work. Before we had played just because it was queued up, I just want to hear this, the killer, because it's so funny that the ones he used were dubbed in English because it's just these weird dubbed voices. Listen to how the incarcerated Scarface starts. He looks determined without being ruthless. Something heroic, he gets mad. There's a courage about it. Comes across so calm. Acts like he has a dream. Full of passion. You don't trust me, huh? You know why. I do. We're not supposed to trust anyone in our profession anyway. Not make us not the worst. It's got that kind of uncanny, weird can-do voice. Just out of context that kind of actually makes it more interesting. By the way, it applies to the entertainment industry too. The don't trust anybody. Yeah, in our profession. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's what I'm always saying. I guess you could say it also applies to like Oppenheimer's world is what we learned. Sorry, Opie.

Did you feel, how did you feel when it mentioned that he was at like the place that we would do field trips as kids? What's it called? Lawrence Livermore. Yeah, but it's Lawrence Livermore, but that's not what we called it, right? Something labs. What did we call it? Just Lawrence Labs. That's what we would just call it. Just Lawrence Labs. When we go up there and watch. Lawrence Labs are Berkeley labs. Are you talking about Lawrence Hall of Science? Is that what you're talking about? Yeah, Lawrence Hall of Science. So there's the Lawrence Hall of Science with Lawrence Livermore Labs. But Lawrence Hall of Science was like every elementary school every year. You'd go up there. You'd watch old movie type clips and take a tour. But that's where Oppenheimer, all the Josh Hartnet scenes are in Lawrence Labs at Berkeley. Yeah, but it's not the same as Lawrence Hall of Science. They're near each other, but it's not the same place. It's the same Lawrence. I was considered them the same thing, but they're not. I mean, I take my kids there when we go back to the field. But that's where they made the fucking bomb, your mom. I know. And it is the bomb. That big whale that's up there. We're from the Bay. God, it's so interesting how the Bay was very conservative before the 60s.

That's a little information for you guys. Did you know that? I mean, was it everywhere? Yeah, probably. But the Bay, yeah, the Bay was nothing like the Bay we grew up with. 60s changed. You know, England in medieval times was actually quite conservative. Same more. They would burn witches and whatnot. And in the broad end of the Renaissance. God, I'm sorry, Kiva. That was unnecessarily harsh, brother. You're my brother. I love you, brother. I just wish I had the Oppenheimer soundtrack on just ready to hit every time you start saying some bullshit. So it sounded important. I'm gonna get it. We definitely keep that in our back pocket though when something else starts happening. But should we listen to the song? Yeah, let's hear it. So here's the thing. This is another question that I want to answer today because I've never looked at this. But my guess is whatever the people think the lyrics are online are not 100% correct. Oh, I have to find out all of them almost positive. Yep, already wrong. Yeah, as soon as.

Yeah, my work. It's his word. Oh, sorry. But the Apple lyrics are probably just A.I. Generated, right? Yeah. So they're gonna be wrote. The arm says ski mask did up, not mask it up, right, your arm? Yes, correct. But I think you need to look at genius website to see if the official lyrics are wrong. I feel like that's where lyrics live on the internet. This is just a look. This is A.I. We don't need to check if A.I. I got it right. Ski masked it up. It should be a mask did. You know what I mean? It did up. Which is not a word. Of course. Blast it through the door, blazing hell with the shells flying. Sputter web the flat screen in one shot, baby's crying. It's just a bloody bass down in the shack. This busy split track. Fuck off it. Build a bag. All of a sudden. Boom. Shout out from the back room. It was a setup. Do Kelly. Got me wiped out the back. Okay, it says get lit up. You got the key. You're a boy. Now make that engine. So it says get lit up on genius, but it's get wet up.

No, because when you get shot, your clothing gets wet from the board. Right here when you're running out and the dookies flying out of your jeans. I tell you. I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna do it. Now right here when you're running out and the dookies flying out of your jeans, I take that more as like. What do you say? Just like descriptive. Like I'm shit in a breath. Yeah, yeah, I'm shitting bricks. Not literally a while. I don't take it as that there's any poop in your pants at all. Any fecal man. No, and I think the intention was that on that first one you're supposed to be like, what? Yeah, I like that clock. I clock the word dookie. You're moving so fast. The dookie that like shits flying out behind you, you know, that it just like. Well, also just my partner in crime doesn't really notice it either. Dookies flying out of my pants. You got the keys? Yeah, yeah. Just moving on. We're moving past it. It's not something to get hung up on. Well, it's and it's a delicate joke, you know what I mean? So we were very conscious of like slowly dripped, dripped, dripped, dripped into your brain. Right. But anyways, that's where we're at right now.

It's just laying the groundwork. Okay, so it's like we're at the end of the game. Okay, so it's like we're at the end of the game. It's like we have rabbit turners. Even the piece of like, yeah, they're way near picturing it. Like dookies are busting out of my jeans. Like it's like they're filling up like a cartoon with you. They're like gumballs. Like they might not even smell. They're just going, what? And that would have been the case in the video. So when your says it, I go, oh, that's funny. But he could also be potentially not literal.

He could just be like, oh, the funny is that they're both using the same turn of phrase that no one uses. That is the equivalent of like, I was shitting bricks. I was about to shit myself. I was so scared. It was so crazy. We understand and I'm just like, oh, that's funny. He said, too. But then then the jeans get ripped. Right. And a bunch of dookies. It's not a pile or like just some smearing. A bunch of them. Oh, no. Yeah. No. On a fine line between deliding and being embarrassed to how much it still makes us laugh. No one has ever called them that in the history of poop, dookies. There's a nice juxtaposition of energies. All right, let's keep going. Is there a chance it's just a bunch of the Green Day album CDs just like flying out? There's always that chance, always. Okay. You know, good those songs had to be for that for an album called Duky to be that popular. Yeah. Like, Goddamn it.

We're challenging people. You know how psyched their label had to be when they were like, we got the title. Duky. But don't worry, it's actually hooky as hell. Straighten top. All number one. Most people don't know this, but do you know where they're from? I actually don't. Will you enlighten me? Yeah, just look it up real quick, Keith. Yeah, they're from the Bay. And actually, you know that that's where we're from. Yeah, physically, Berkeley. And little known fact, I guess people from Berkeley obsessed with the word Duky. It would seem so. But you know, out of my G, you hop the bed and we can get away clean. We hit the dirt. This ride while it's snowing, it's finally here in my pant leg. A bunch of Dukies with fly. Don't break soul in the grass. Mix with the Duky. Yeah, man. I'm a smith. You know we cut food apart. Duky's popping out of my shirt. Duky's popping out of my shirt. So you've murdered a dog, which is the number one thing not to do if you want audiences to like you. Correct. Well, these are anti-heroes.

You committed the ultimate crime. Yeah. Is there a website that like does the dog die in the song? Yes. Yeah, in the song. I don't know if they need it for songs because it's so rare. That's a great question. Also, I think there's really no debate. It's brains are all in the grass mix with the Duky. Yeah. Yeah. Apologies to anyone who's just waking up and listening to this. That's me. We do a lot of songs where there's like a premise that the two people in the song very much agree with and then do a lot of agreeing with each other. It's also one of our favorite just styles of written comedy as well. Just in terms of the Bill and Ted dynamic. I was like, I agree with you. Yeah. That idea. Up my alley. Wait and Garth is another one you could have named check. Yeah, sure. The step-brothers of the film's step-brothers. But it's like Bill and Ted, waiting Garth, who came first, you know? Waiting Garth. No, actually, they're very, I think Bill and Ted came out before. Oh, but the sketch, Wayne's world. Ooh. Ooh.

Ooh. Ooh, that's something I wish to find out. Unfortunately, we'll never. Pittas and the Titus. Is there a history there? We'll never know. Yeah. All right. Oh, yeah. It's why I paused there because I had some questions. I filled up his pants, right? And then went up. Yeah, the shirt came up so high that they were popping out of the front of his shirt. I picture it like popcorn. You know how popcorn comes out the top and then, you know, sort of burbling up out of his pants up to the shirt area. And he had his shirt tucked in. It's like when you have that terrible thing in a car seat with a baby or a toddler where the duke does come out of their shirt because... But that's real, Keith. You're talking about real duke now, which I don't really like. I like our version, which is gumballs. Yeah. Little, you're talking about cockatats. You're talking, we're talking pellets in this. Yeah, this isn't cockatats. Yeah, or it's like, you know, I don't want to get too much into the detail of it. But like, it's tubular, but it's like, there's no smell. Odor list for almost like, it's like a cartoon.

Pleasant. Yeah. That's so crazy. You don't want to get too much into the detail. Then you probably shouldn't do an hour long podcast of about a two-minute song about duke. I think everyone knows I'm on the record. It's not wanting to do this podcast. Yeah, that's true. Okay. It was always just because you were worried this episode was coming. It certainly did help you out. It certainly did help you out. If we do this podcast, eventually, I'm going to have to talk about duke for one hour. Benny hat, gods, up and down at two p up. I got all the pretense drugs. I prefer to play in splarter churches in PILONKLICO. I like these topics. I don't like it. I love my Easter feasts. But this concept also has been used by the impose of dancing parties. But!... like you guys are a contained unit and then you fill in it with marbles essentially. It is the way to picture it. So I was saying your pants are just chock full, but then he rips your pant leg, marbles, picture if you tucked your pant leg into your socks, poured marbles into the top till they

were absolutely chock full. Yeah, or dookie in your pants. Like I know. Yeah, then somebody would rip the leg. Boy, those marbles would go everywhere. If your leg didn't get ripped and then you were doing some like hopping fences and stuff, they might start bubbling out above your belt line easily. Pretty sure that's where the term lost your marbles comes from. Well, let me just say that the reference to isotone or gloves and dookies popping out of his eyes to come by isotone or gloves and shook the dookies out. There, I mean, now it's a problem before it was like manageable, but you know, this is Oh yeah, isotone or glove just seemed like something that Ghost Face Array quad would say. There's a lot of special things. It feels very East Coast people that wear leather gloves to get out of the cold or commit crimes. I remember isotone or glove commercials would run a lot when we were kids. Yeah. On Genius.com, it says, you know, it's the Jakes. They want us to be chased, but someone has already put a note in saying it should be they wise to the chase, which is what it is. Yes. And for those of you who don't know, Jakes are police officers.

That's a East Coast line for police officers. Jeet. Anything on Genius was any of the descriptions that people wrote, funny, Andy, of like trying to explain what the lines mean? Like I just did. Like hand holding. Like their pants are obviously tucked into their socks causing the dookies to come out of the tops of their shirts. Not really. Okay. Continue. And we're about to get to my favorite line. So for it to get into your gloves, it's like, yes, you're wearing a long sleeve t-shirt of some sort. I say t-shirt because that's pretty thin enough to be able to tuck into the gloves. And then the dookies had filled all the way up through your shirt and then had gone down your shirt sleeve into your gloves, kind of like where you had to like shake some out like it was us. No, that's why these dookies have to be relatively firm, right? Because if they were smeary, I don't want to get into details again. I don't like the word smeary. I don't want that on this pod. I don't want to say smeary on this pod.

Okay. So they're firm. This is Andy's nightmare. This is the whole reason he didn't want to do the pod. It's he knew it would get to this episode and people would be describing different kinds of dookies. We're like two popcorns, not what the song is about. Okay. Okay. So we loved, loved this line. So you're just ditching some more. So at this point, you guys are getting really slowed down from the dead dookie weight. One of my favorite ever your performances is the line so I could dump the dookie. He knows you're ahead of him at this point. He's like ripped off Mike because he said what he's doing first. He's ripping off his skull, meaning he's like, hat, he's filled up. How did he even get in there? Yeah, I jumped above your neckline into your hat. And then he's like, but you know why? So I can rip the dookie. It's always the most ball of lines that I feel like Andy enjoys me.

Andy really gets specific occasionally with his line reads on this and like and he knows your limit. He really is very good at knowing your limit and is like, it's got to be harder. It's got to be harder. So what can you do? And then yes, we're good. We got it. And when he doubles over and is laughing, I'm like, no, there was there was. The fact that it's plural again is just wonderful. There's do there are lots of dookies in there. Yeah, in the scully. One other thing about the recording of the vocals is we talked a lot about the voice I'm doing specifically. It's not totally in my range. So it's, it gets very grating. And I think you helped us with this two key, but I remember us tweaking it a lot, which was I did a double and one of them is much lower register and not the shrill high register thing. And we fucked around with it a lot to find a balance that didn't feel too annoying to the ear. But it's still right on the edge. Yeah, that's right. That's right. Yeah, we're manipulators master manipulators.

Yeah, it's a chase. It was through the day. You fucked over here. I got an additional day. You ain't whipped off my stomach. So I could do the dookie. I'm placing out the ukulele. It's trying to show me. I blew out his back. That's all she wrote. Yeah, no, it's just slept too. Dookies, what I'm hoping. Oh, what a little Greek mythology. No, yeah. Yeah. It's like the two, is that like the two pennies on their, I like crossing the river sticks, but you just took two of your countless dookies and placed one dookie on each island. No, no, on his chest. On his chest. That's a weirder put the right foot of the left. Right, for the boatman to take him to where? Where does the boatman take the bodies back then? Dookie islands. Oh, sorry. Yeah, in ours, it's probably to dookie islands where they go. Right. Or Davey Jones Locker. Am I right, guys? In Greek mythology, you leave two coins over the eyes. See it is. And one in the mouth. This is on genius. Oh, the two of us. Oh, the two of us. Oh, the two of us. Oh, the two of us.

For the ferryman, caron. The boatman. So he could carry your soul across the river sticks and into Hades. Into Hades. So you, but you skipped the one in the mouth. Interesting. Well, there's just two on the chest. This is dookie island. You got a pal. It's different. A little cheaper to get into dookie island than Hades. Two dookies. But yes, I was aware of the two coins, or I didn't realize it was three coins for the boatman. We would have changed that if we had done the research. Now, on the technical side, Andy, to your point, I did notice that both your voices sounded different on some than other ones. But I can't hear the doubles on either of you. So I think either there are doubles where you guys performed it twice and where we're layering, but we tucked them in so perfectly aligned and so lightly that I'm hearing it. It just isn't an interesting tone of voice. It truly is not reading as double at all. I mean, really, that's good. We did this occasionally where it's like one will have the lead. And we certainly do it on choruses a lot where you obviously have more lead vocals and they're more centered. And then we pull the other ones apart and they're lowered down and what we dropped decibels

on that. So I would imagine that on this, to get the tone you're talking about, Andy, your second one was just lowered by a couple of decibels, whatever. I mean, this is like butch Cassidy in the Sundance kid. Because I'm stuck on dukey mountain. It's like colon blow or whatever. It's like filled up under it. Yeah, I'm starting to get concerned. Dukey is becoming more. The dukey might do you it. Well, they're coming out fast. That's why quite clearly, I mean, just as any crime story, it always ends with come up ends. Yeah, now there's only 40 seconds left and I actually want to stop interrupting it. So I'm going to go back a team and play it to the end here and then we can go back. Because I think there's a momentum I'm killing here. Okay.

That's he pretty good crab scratching there by Mr. Newmer. Oh, right into it. We'll get there. We're going to do a shave. Okay. Well, visually, I really like saying they're coming out fast because I'm starting to picture it as like a little kind of sound that as they're popping out. Oh, just like little bubbles, like little boba tea, like little popping powders. Yeah, that's actually popping boba is a great way to look at these dukeys, just liquid serenity by little gelatin. One thing that has nothing to do with the comedy of it, just on a musical note, we go back and forth very fast over and over and over and then there's one time at the end where we just have your arm continue through. I was going to explain it in a very satisfying musical. Yes, because then it switches like who in our bodies all say, you switch like when you

expect the next guy to come in and it sounds like a great. It sounds cool. And that is Newmark doing the scratching. Yes, or anytime we needed like real dope scratching. Bless his heart. Did you find some of those clips you want? I did. I did. And so the way that that works is like that was like a, it wasn't a new thing, but when Serato came out and like a DJ equipment that could actually like just take whatever MP3 you would have, you would load it up and then you know, back in the day you literally have to like press it to vinyl to be able to scratch stuff. But then you know, digitally you can just take it anything, send it to a rad DJ and have him scratch it and all you can do any piece of it. Yeah, but it's still real scratching. It's still a record and a yeah, exactly. It's a mixer, but it's just that the record is digital. Okay, yeah, you want to hear some of these. Yes. And you were right, Andy. I was 100. It's probably not even 100. Well, while you figure that out, Kevin Miller just did our research on Wayne's World Verse, Bill and Ted. The first Wayne's World sketch aired in the Leslie Nielsen show, February 18, 1989.

Bill and Ted premiered in theaters one day earlier. Whoa. Friday, February 17, 1989. They were back to back. That means there is some teenage kids who saw Bill and Ted Friday and saw Wayne's World for the first time Saturday. I guess that was us. I don't know. I saw Bill and Ted definitely the weekend it opened. Oh, for sure. I sure. At the theater by the payless in Oakland. Oh, I remember that one. Was there a straw? Was that next to straw hat, Lisa? Yeah, where they have video games in the back. Did you know that I'm from the bank? Yeah. Damn, that's so crazy. Do you think that the makers of Duky ever went to that theater? The makers of Duky? Yeah, the Green Bay. Oh. That Duky. We're all makers of Duky, am I right? That's why I was confused. When talking about the Bay, since we're talking about it, I always like Dandy's mind. I'm saying cop blazed out the Eucalyptus trying to shoot me. And that is very much a Bay reference because there's a lot of Eucalyptus there. Eucalyptus. I had a friend growing up whose dad had a mission to get rid of Eucalyptus in California

because it was not a native plant. Yes, it's from Australia. Really come from Australia or something? Yes, I believe so. I wouldn't dare guess. So this is Howard Parker reading the lines of Trouble on Duky Island. And I like it to his as well as this as the date, as well. Today is March 19, 2010. This is Howard Parker reading for McRubber. Take one. Trouble on Duky Island. Oh, fuck. Trouble on Duky Island. Oh, that was so fucking rad of Howard that he records his little lead in in his speaking voice on like a whacker mic to like lure you in like, oh, is that what he sounds like? This isn't going to work. He's doing it from his house, yeah. Oh my God, but it like has the click in like from an old school studio. This guy's a fucking professional. He did a lot all the universal Trouble on Duky Island. Trouble on Duky Island. Yes. Trouble on Duky Island. Trouble on Duky Island. Trouble on Duky Island. Trouble on Duky Island. Trouble on Duky Island.

Trouble on Duky Island. Let's just keep playing on. Take three. Trouble on Duky Island. Trouble on Duky Island. I need 50. Trouble on Duky Island. This should have been the last track of our album. Not a bit seriously. Trouble on Duky Island. Trouble on Duky Island. Trouble on Duky Island. What kind of movie has that one that really low almost for my turn? Trouble on Duky Island. Like it's a secret. Trouble on Duky Island. Trouble on Duky Island. They're all so real. Take six. Take six. Trouble on Duky Island. Trouble on Duky Island. Trouble on Duky Island. Let's just play it by all of these. Take seven. Enjoy the fuck. Trouble on Duky Island. Trouble on Duky Island. Trouble on Duky Island. We're going to do a little fun. Yeah, that one's not so bad.

Trouble on Duky Island. Trouble on Duky Island. It's a wink. It's a wink. It's a wink. Take nine. It's getting into some life. Trouble on Duky Island. He's working his way to like a Harry in the Henderson. Trouble on Duky Island. Trouble on Duky Island. Yeah. It's getting fun now. Yeah. Take that trouble on Duky Island. Trouble on Duky Island. This is the version of the movie Island, I see. That's what's starting to him out. Yeah. He should make trouble. Trouble on Duky Island. Take 11. Trouble on Duky Island. Trouble on Duky Island. Damn, he modulated Trouble on Duky Island. Trouble on Duky Island. Yeah. Take 12. Trouble on Duky Island. Trouble on Duky Island. Trouble on Duky Island. Dude, he's what a king.

The fact that it's just going, it's in a straight line for 12 takes where they're going just, it's like he has 12 levels to do it. He's going up and up each time. I mean, you can imagine how excited I was to get that back. You make a stupid request. You feel like a child. You know, this is my first movie. I'm like, hey, can the guy do this thing? And then you get that back. And the fact that it was on my birthday. What a gift. March 19th. You can imagine how it's like, I was, did you get an outgoing message for your voicemail? Oh, I fucking, I blew it. I felt like it was such a windfall of riches that I was like actually. No, I thought that I thought that I was having a memory of you having him saying something. All right. Well, thank you, Howard Parker. Well, speaking of great Vio is the perfect time to mention Peter Cullen. Peter Cullen, who was the voice of Optimus Prime and a big part of all of our childhoods. Yeah. Because I felt the same way getting that Vio like you're like, fuck, it's like Optimus Brom's fucking doing trouble on Tokyo Island. Yeah, rest in peace, Peter Cullen.

None of us ever worked with him. We just loved his voice work. Good, myered. Yeah. Incredible. Legend, as they say, across the pond. Oh, yeah. In Vagi Lauderdown. You really picked up a lot over there. I did indeed, brof. Hell. Yep. I think that's what they say. Allow it, brof. Hmm. I like this. Allow it. If it tacked the block. If they all had that voice, it would have been a way worse movie. Allow it. Hell, oh, hey, allow it, brof. Allow it, brof. All right. Well, one song. We want to sneak in a Falcow versus a Treu. I kind of am ashamed of it and never wanted to see the light of day. We could just skip it. Feels like a skip it. Yeah, really? I mean, it's pretty violent. I'll say how it happened. I guess any quaid that's still listening, not that anybody turns it off. But I just mean they've earned our trust enough to be trusted with the Falcow versus the new key 4,000 times in the Falcow. Yeah, but that was kind of classy. We broke them down. Wait, Andy, do you want to just like, because maybe this is your chance to make amends for like how this came about because you were a child.

It's a reference to a childish thing. Yeah, it's very, yeah. It's obviously it's about from never ending story. And there's a whole wonderful sweet moment in the movie where Falcow and a Treu were looking for each other. And there's just a back and forth that's seared into my mind forever, you know, the audio of it, the Falcow, a Treu. Because they're trying to find each other. Yeah. And then it was like, you know what it really is? It's the, um, your meal know exactly this. The old audio sketch, the like Martha, Bob, Martha. You know what I'm talking about? Yeah, to like, to like, is it Bob? I think it is. I think it's Bob and Mother, yeah. I feel like we should play that so people can understand. Yes, to see how high brow what you were barring from was back to never ending story while he looks. I tried to turn it on for my kids and it seemed like it might suck. And I was like, this is the best fucking movie I loved when I was a kid and I turned it on.

And I was like, if you don't like it after 10 minutes, we'd turn off. And after like six, I was like, guys, you don't have to sit there. This is fine. It was just me as a kid. Like I think that that is a timing thing though because it's just one. It's really hard to say this is the best thing ever for anything and then play it for someone. And then to like, it's slower. It's slower than most things because it's an older movie. But it was like, it was like a lot of screaming puppets like going, oh, you got to the puppets. Well, those, those first, first of all, it was made in Germany and actually it was filmed where we filmed a conferee at this one big studio, which was also fun because while I was walking around dressed as Hitler in Germany at a studio, there would be like tour groups coming by. I'd be like, hi, how's it going? So that's fun. But I was, but never any story was shot. I mean, and those puppets feel super fucking German. They feel they're like nasty to look at and like, you know, I mean, like the first guys that's what I mean. The snail guy and the weirdo like, that's kind of what I'm getting at.

He's like, I couldn't get past. How gross it was. Yeah, just it was just so unpleasant. And I'd love that movie. And it was so unpleasant in the first 10 minutes I couldn't, they couldn't get past it. But maybe I need to, we can talk about this movie a lot because I was writing something that was similar with Brett McKenzie. And I got very deep into like adventure movies that go into a different world. And it's all the cycles of grief. And it's pretty rad when you actually break it down. And the second act has like all of the different cycles of grief of like, you know, denial, apathy. And culminating with like him seeing himself in the mirror and then bashed in switching with his abatired. And I think it's a really well written because also because the book of never ending story is off the fucking rails and goes bizarre places. And it's only the first half of the book that is the movie. And it's a much, but it's like actually like a pretty amazing trick to make something that good out of a fucking pretty off the rails weird like, fashion to get super ripped. And he like forgets all the real world. At least an asshole and everybody hates him.

It's true. I can't condone all the cussing, but yeah, it's interesting. Sorry. We found it. It's Stan Freberg. John. Marshall. John. Marshall. Marshall. Marshall. Marshall. Marshall. Marshall. Marshall. Marshall. Marshall. Marshall. Marshall. Marshall. Marshall. Marshall. Marshall. Marshall. Marshall. Marshall. Marshall. Marshall. Marshall. John?

John? John? Marsha? Oh John? Marsha? That's fair. Marsha? John? Marsha? John? Marsha? Oh Marsha? Marsha? John? Marsha? Marsha? John!

Marsha? Marsha? Marsha? John? Oh man! John? Marsha? So when is that from? 1951. 1951, amazing. I mean, it's nice to know that sarcasm is always existed. It's also pretty risqué. Yeah, there's... Stan Frieberg was really funny. I actually listened to a lot of Stan Frieberg. I should have remembered that those... I love that they had to have a real orchestra. He's like, play this. Anyway, you can see the framework there for Falker. In a trio. All right, well, let's give it a go. A trio! Falker! A trio! Falker! A trio!

Falker? You a trio. Falker? Ah, a trio! A trio! AAAA! OO, OO, OO, OO, OO, OO, OO, OO, OO, OO... Trio. Trio. Trio. Trio. tree It's like the story of the movie I mean dude, it's cute Also, we had the way with all the color of a classy skit though. That is true It the full title is Falcore Versa-Trayu classy skit number one Oh my god, what do you do is is classy skit number two and they are very similar. I Did just have a memory flood back of that weird little Caught that was in that recording studio. That was like the cheapest old like almost military or hospital cat That was on old school springs and that we were like we need the bed springs We're like we have them right here and we just and just like taking the mic off of the mic stand and dragging

You know with the cord over to the thing and then just jumping on it with our butt just like like Boy, wait wait wait and then I slow like I forgot how shitty that thing was we were in this shitty It's like we had the perfect foley. It was a little foley setup. Yeah, just ready to go for this perfect sketch Anyway, Falcore Versa-Trayu criterion. I'm just kidding. Yeah, I mean I would omit it if given the opportunity And what are we gonna say for I mean I guess we can't say songs are criterion, right? So we won't even talk about trouble on dick. I like that like watch me do me is a direct Topical reference because that's what people were saying at the time. Mm-hmm And Falcore Versa-Trayu they're doing exactly the two buckets of which we operate Which is either a movie from 20 years earlier that nobody is talking about or Something that just came out current music. Yeah. Yeah. Hey Andy Jack Buck I

Got it with two hints How's are you sad? Yeah, if I don't get it clean totally then I'm bummed however I chime didn't late long last week's app to let everyone know that I got a squeaky and then two days later I got another squeaky whoa and it felt fantastico now how long does that take you so I can be bummed out So this is the craziest one maybe of all time it was a very easy one all of my Friends and acquaintances who do the B and I check in with all got it eventually at some point I did it in Six minutes and I stopped to go to the bathroom in the middle of that six minutes So like five minutes if I peed for a minute you left the table Now the word the word list from that one there just be words that we've never heard of on it that you just know our words I don't even know that one was shockingly easy, but I do think it's the fastest I've ever finished it and I did do it squeaky clean

I was really easy when like that will you tell us so we can so I can try it. Yeah, please so you can get in on it It's probably in the archive do you want me to tell you what day it was sure please then and then everyone can do it and try to beat your time I mean by only but they got to take a couple duchies in the middle Yeah, that is or else there's an asterisk on your win. It was Friday Rebecca blocks favorite day That's right. Give me that after listen to it. That's absolutely right. Thank you so much. And how does that song go again? Friday Friday Some like that although when I try to think of it I just think of Tim and Zach's Friday Night I'm thinking that we just might Fly away to some place they don't know where we are some like that I would I'm looking at the words from that B and I would argue there's nothing you can't figure out Intuitively, you know what I mean? There's no like what the fuck is that word? Okay, it's all words that are words you know or rooted from words, you know

And that's all I have to say about that for us come damn love that Well, we didn't read a single comment on last week's app. Hey, hey, hey, hey Hit us in the tittest is that good is it bad it's have to come back with that shit Yeah, I'll have double the double the flavor what yeah double double the flavor We'll talk about it for like 40 minutes and then we'll listen to watch me do me get ready for next episode Anyways guys, this was the most important episode we've ever done Thank you to our sponsors to whoever they were Thank you to our producers to Jeff to Kevin Thank you to our editor CJ This has been another episode of the Lonely Island Seth Mars podcast and keep your South wherever you are.
