I believe I said during the Brian Burke interview that I could go to any bar in Northern BC or Northern Alberta or Northern Saskatchewan and grab one guy out of that bar that would have cross checked Radco, Gouda, and another guy that would have felt no, had no qualms about succranum after the after he stuck his knee out last night on on Austin Matthews. And by the way, I think Gouda just got to get minimum five. He should get a five game suspension for that. I think that's how I like that play. So I'm going to ask you this because you played the WHO when it was a tough league. I wasn't good enough to play the WHO when there were 12 teams and it was a tough league. Is this just the way the games played today or did the Leafs drop the ball and not responding to the Gouda's hit against their best player, Austin Matthews? Well, first of all, I love the credibility you're lending to me by accidentally getting

4:09into a fight with Reed Lowe and getting beat up. So I'll take that. Thanks, Bob. No, I'll take that credibility. You know, I wanted video. It wasn't an accident. You didn't fight in that fight, man. I've seen that fight. Yeah, whatever. It was fun. A long time ago. So, yeah, look, I watched the video and what I would say is the lineman was there immediately. Like the lineman was the first person to get to Radco, Gouda's because he was the closest one. And when you have a lineman standing there in front of you for the players that are moving from the blue line in, they got to get through a lineman to get to Radco, Gouda's. Now, would it be more ideal if more guys showed up on the scene to get into his grill? Yeah. But I think the fact that a lineman is there means there's no dog pile happening. There is no Tampa Bay Lightning when Vaseleski got run over happening, right? That's not happening. So, yeah, there should have been more response, but I'm reading everything today and I'm seeing everything today.

5:09Like somebody thought that they should have be headed Radco, Gouda's. And I'm like, the lineman was right there, right there. You got Morgan Riley, I think of Brandon Carlow. He got Easton Cowell and I was like, these are guys. And a few of them at least skated over. You could sort of see when they cut back to Gouda's. You could see some leaf sweaters within proximity of him. So, no, it was not a good enough response in the moment. He would like it to have been a little bit more, have more oath there, but for anybody to think that anyone was squaring off with Gouda's, the lineman was there. That was not happening and the players know that. They look and they see a lineman standing right there, right? So I understand why they want to blow this into a huge issuing Toronto and this year hasn't gone well for them. And I get it and when it thinks like this happened, everybody piles on. But this was not everybody just standing around and the guy standing there getting a complete. This was not the play continued and nobody went near him.

6:10This was not, he stayed in the lineup the rest of the night and nobody thought it would be appropriate to go and challenge him. The reason, the Leafs got a little rough and tumble after, right, they exacted some measures of revenge after that and Gouda's had lines been protection and got punted out of the game. 7:11You know, like Johnson, they got Jeff Yel, they got a tough team, like Truba can light you up. I mean, he's a dangerous inner out there. It is interesting because Morgan Riley said he should have done more to his credit after the game. Yeah, and it isn't good in there. Make it look good. Make it look good. I mean, I know. Any video of Austin, Austin Matthews laying on the ground clutching his knee should also include video of somebody with their gloves off trying to get it somebody, even if it's their alignment. That those videos should go hand in hand. I agree with that. I think Riley knows that too. This is one of the reasons that I've really come to appreciate Vasili Pitcolz, okay? Twice this year, Ryan, once with Conor, David, where David cut across the board, he was in the middle of the slot. And Jonathan Kovasovic stepped up and got a piece of him. And it was automatic. Pitcolz and dropped his gloves went right to, he got 17 minutes, the orders took the extra minor in the play, but I love the response from Pitcolz and then at home Ridley Greg.

8:11It was Ridley Greg that shot the puck in the net. Morgan Riley went after Ridley Greg for ripping the puck in the net and empty net. Ridley Greg got a big piece of Mattias at home and Pitcolz and immediately dropped the gloves and Ridley Greg, you know, was in a defensive posture because Vasili is bigger than Ridley, whereas Kovasovic is not, you know, or, you know, like Pitcolz and is not bigger than Kovasovic, but he's certainly bigger than Ridley Greg and went. So twice this year in those situations, Vasili stepped up. Even last night, Ritz Kovian was chirping the orders bench and Vasili went to skate out and have a conversation with him and you can, like, and I'd like to get your thoughts on what we've seen out of Vasili Pitcolz in this year. Yeah, I mean, I like that. My understanding is, you know, it's high fives and out of boys from the coaches too because he's taking some penalties, doing these things and I've been critical of no block in the past, you know, suggesting I'm not sure how much of this he commands from his group or he wants from his group.

9:12And, you know, I've kind of been led to understand that Noah Chris is, you know, Chris really appreciates pod calls in that way and that has been known and that's been shown. So I think it can be fair to Chris, I throw that out there and that's the way that it should be. Yeah, they've got a guy that can do that and so pod calls and should he's strong as an ox, you know, he can handle himself and good teams take care of their business and they have players that understand they have to take care of their business. That is Vasili pod calls and that's why he continues to be one of the most valuable trades they've made in recent years. But Bob, I'm going to throw this at you and you might not love it. Your listeners might not love it. I don't care. I would submit to you that the Maple Leafs did more when it came to going over it, at least getting into the vicinity of Radco, Gudas, then the Edmonton Oilers did when their gold tender got blown up in a way we have not seemed like Stooskinter had one of those where he got blown up that bad. That was a violent collision in the crease. Go back and watch that and watch Chas Berry cabinet.

10:15Nobody even went within 10 feet of Nathan McKinnon. Then I get it. Nathan McKinnon and all was in an accident. We don't, I get it, but I would submit this to you just as I did before. Any video that includes your gold tender getting blown up like that should go hand in hand with video of somebody trying to get at somebody. I think that's fair. I asked Berkey about it and he said Bob, Darnell Nurse, played a factor in basically the track that Nathan McKinnon was on and it's also, and Ryan, the difference for me is it's Nathan McKinnon and it's not Radco, Gudas. Like Gudas is a repeat offender in the league in the open ice and it's just a collision between those two and in McKinnon's case he's on the net and he bullies his way around the ice. We know that about him, right? But he did collide with Darnell Nurse into Conoringham. Now I would say to you that 20 to 25 years ago, all hell probably would have still broken

11:21loose in that situation like it would have been on. It is a different time and I think it's fair to say I, I think it's, it's fair to understand it from Berkey's perspective saying does the collision occur if he doesn't bump into the nurse? Yes. It does. Okay. That was way too aggressive a trajectory. He took a decrease and so it never convinced me that Nathan McKinnon would have avoided Conoringham in that situation. Darnell Nurse could have not even been in the frame. Nate McKinnon was getting a piece of Ingram, that's our fast and aggressive and how strong the angle he took. So if he's taking a huge piece of the blue paint. So you, so you obviously feel they made the right call and given them a major panel. I did. I said it that night. Yeah. That was way too fast and aggressive and way too sharp an angle into that crease. And the gold tender needs to be free to be able to push from right to left in his crease without getting absolutely slumber knocked. Yeah.

12:21Yeah. And McKinnon was getting a piece of him either way, Bob, that's the way I saw it. And that's, that's the beauty of sport talk radio because I'm the orders broadcaster and I was surprised they gave McKinnon because there was a little bit of an impact with Darnell Nurse in the sequence, like if it was direct and Nurse never touched them all day, it's a major panel eight and there needs to be a response. But because Nurse was involved in the sequence, the orders were short handed at the time as well. Um, I was a little bit surprised. So it really cut like you think it should be a major and the orders needed to respond to the major. Well, I just think that I just think that when your goalie gets Bob, they don't have the benefit of looking at the replay and being like, Oh, hang on a second. Nurses head nudged his hip and that's why he got a 60% bigger piece of him. I just say it was on that icy is a guy drive the net. Their goalie get absolutely destroyed and your instinct kicks in.

13:22So what instinct kicks in? What is on the ice in for the weeks last night? But instinct kicked into the orders who were on the ice right there. It's a different game. It's a different instinct than you needed 20 years ago, but I would suggest that the instinct should be there to be lying to the guy that did it, be in his face, you know, and sure, you know, maybe you're trying to win a game and you don't want to take a penalty. I think if you were to even it up, I think your coach would understand it and your teammates would understand. Sure. Sure. So show up on the scene without being a dummy about it and, you know, but, but you show up on the scene. The leaves didn't do quite enough. The orders didn't do anything. The situations were varying. All the leaves didn't do anything either and Ryan, here's the difference. The NHL rescinded the major penalty and misconduct to McKinnon. Yeah. I don't think the NHL like if I was a leaves fan, I would be bummed out about what happened with Matthews, first of all, that their player got need.

14:23That would really disturb me, and I'd be disturbed that there wasn't a response, but I do recognize they were playing the N. I'm Doc Stan, I'm just got a tough team. Let me throw this out you before we move on, Bob. Just one more. The league is not rescinding the major with goodness. He's getting some form of suspension, which to me indicates that in the eyes of the justice in the national hockey league, what goodness did was substantially worse than what McKinnon did. And that would prevent him from jitter. Sure. I can. When you can, Google Bortuzo running Vasilevsky, right? I want you to see Bortuzo coming in off the right wing. He gets hammered by Syracuse, which propels him directly into the crease and he steamrolls Vasilevsky. How many years ago was this? 22. So five years ago, four years, well, four years ago, Bob, four years ago, I think 22 and look at Tampa, look, one guy gloves off, two guy gloves off, three guy gloves off.

15:27The first guy comes in and grabs a guy. That was their instinct in that moment, Bob. I feel like the lighting were pretty good back then. What did you see? So watch the difference in the instinct. Sure. And I don't think that is your, that is a fair perspective for you to have. I'm seeing in the eyes of the league, they deemed the goodest one substantially worse than the McKinnon one. And I would tell you, again, if you played against a bunch of beer league dudes and a guy went flying through the crease and right, guys of a certain village would be willing to drop them on the spot. That's just, it's a little bit of a generational thing too. That's true. So all I'm seeing here, and I don't want you guys to like grab me saying that and make a promo out of it, like Rashad's super critical oilers for this or that. I'm in the context of comparing it to the Leafs and whether teams do these things different or handle things different now and certain teams do and certain teams don't. I'm just sort of comparing the two and going to those have to be that different. So Ryan, I'm going to read you some texts here. Jimbo says, Bob, I looked at the replay 50 times.

16:29Ryan's exactly right. That's from Jimbo. Brian says the orders bench. The orders bench should have been cleared with Ingram hit by McKinnon. So the orders, the orders other than put holes in our soft, even McDavid is having to look at it from self now, again, you can, okay, Ryan, once, okay, once again, Ryan, normally that would have been nurse to not discount the effect of him getting hit in the moment. Take a shot to the back of the head like nurse did. Nurse may have been collecting himself as well as Ingram. I don't think Darnell, Darnell nurses is going to sit there and watch his goalie get one. We know that. That's an interesting perspective. Bob said for years, the orders will not win until you gross him. You know what? Nobody on the team to look after the teammates from her, arm is old school, it's an old school goal tenor from back the day. And I would respond to that by saying, I think they, I think put holes in does that. I was actually surprised in the third period last night that they kept on evening up the calls. Worked to Edmonton's advantage, Ryan, it comes to Dallas stars because the orders were

17:32the clear aggressors in the third. Yeah, I mean, you know, I think they were the rest, I thought the rest did a fine job managing the situation. And I thought the orders did a fine job, you know, responding. They went after the guy that got into McDavid's face. Now, you know, ten years ago, I would have said there's no way that guy should get through the game without having someone gloves off and fist coming at him. Like if you engage with Conor McDavid to that degree, somebody's coming knocking, does not matter the situation score nothing. I don't necessarily think the game is the same. You know, that's a little bit caveman, an issue of me to say. And McDavid was kind of the aggressor in that situation. So I thought the orders were fine handling their business last night for the most part. Fred Rick made his point known how he only got a couple of minutes for like fifteen punches. I'm surprised you didn't get a $5,000 fine. You hit a guy three or four times with your glove off. Usually they give you a lot of the head. Yeah. Not a lot of punch guys in the back of the head in fighting. This text comes in saying, bring back Corey Perry.

18:33If this is a generational thing getting asked, well, the orders had Corey Perry to make a game. And in fact, against Vegas in game four, round two last year, you remind you be remember Ryan that the orders came out and they were banging and they crashed the net and Kane went through the net and wiped out Aiden Hill and the Golden Knights all including Hill went after Kane after the orders went up to nothing in that game. And Vegas got unglued as that came one on. And Hamilton ended up shutting them out in game four and then shut the Golden Knights own game five on capital. Very quickly, a couple of things have to happen for the orders here. I think they need to simplify their game offensively, their top two lines. They got a lot of zone possession time. I think they got to put more pucks to the net and obviously they got to get more stops, your thoughts. For sure. Yeah. I think, yeah, I mean, I'll just focus on the gold tender. Like I think we know last night the team needed to be better. They didn't start on time. They needed to be better defensively for sure.

19:35No question. Tristan Jari's results here recently have been atrocious, like just absolutely atrocious. I was trying to coming in and doing a nice job winning him got hurt if he did a nice job. We'll get him credit for that. But other than that, I mean, his goal is against the caliber of goals against the way he's getting beat. I mean, he didn't make it safe for his team until it was five month and last night. It's not good enough. It hasn't been good enough and yes, the orders need to be much better in front of them. They are to blame last night too, but the orders are a team that looks like they want to turn a corner. Last night, we'll see if that's the outlier. They look like they want to play better D. They're tightening up the house a little bit. There are those two games I saw lots of progress there. This team looks ready to take a step defensively. This gold tender needs to get on that program and give them a chance. You know, because if this team is going to turn a corner, he's going to have to get his level of play up or he's going to get in the way of them turning that corner.

20:36So you can say not fair, but that's the life of being a gold tender. He's got to be better and the team has to be better in front of him for sure, but big picture.
