President Trump has a ruled out requesting $200 billion more from Congress to pay for the ongoing war in Iran. That's a massive amount that faces steep odds in both the House and Senate. Republicans hold a narrow majority in the House, making passage tricky there. In the Senate, any big bill needs 60 votes to move forward, requiring help from Democrats. Democrats have opposed the war from the start and show no sign of backing such a huge spending ask. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer slammed the idea as outrageous, arguing the cash would be better spent on healthcare costs, education, groceries, and roads. Congress already greenlit $838 billion, $700 million for the Defense Department, back in January. Lawmakers also tucked in another $150 billion for key programs like missile defense and shipbuilding in a recent tax and spending bill. That extra money is set to roll out over the next few years.
