Trump's Attempt to Bribe Voters Backfires!

The Supreme Court has handed him another election loss, blocking his Jerry-Mandered Missouri map for a second time, and an anthropic just revealed that state-linked scientists try to use AI to help build biological weapons. While Trump's response to fears about AI turning on humanity was to joke about a quote, little gear that'll just shut it all off. Lots to cover today. I want to lead with the big one, because right now it is everything about where Trump's own party actually stands on his big midterm promise. As convention last night, Trump pledged every American adult a $5,000 dividend if Republicans kept the house in the Senate. Didn't even serve back 24 hours, by the way,

1:00because his own party is now even shredding it. Republican donor and volunteer co-founder Joe Laundesdale says he is strongly against bread and circus bribes, while still saying he supports the administration overall. By the way, I just found this. There is always a tweet for everything. This is from October 30th, 2012. Don't let Obama buy the election by handing out unlimited free money to states. Well, checking on that 15 years later, 14 years later, Donald Trump is trying to buy the election by handing out money to voters. And the question a lot of people have is why not just send the checks now? Right? Republicans control the House of Representatives. They control the United States Senate. They have the presidency. Theoretically, Trump can just give the money now. They can pass legislation today if they wanted to, and send $5,000 to every single adult American. And Trump was asked about that today. Take a listen to what he has to say. Let's give the money now. If you have the money, want to give it now? They can't. I'll tell you what, because the Democrats can't do it.

2:01Because with them, it's negative growth. With us, it's so positive. So we're taking in $21 trillion. Nobody, no country's ever taken in anywhere near that. It's four or five times higher than the next. All because of that beautiful word that you and I love more than most of us, tariffs. Apparently, we can't do it now. Why? Well, because, because Democrats can't do it. But Democrats actually can't do it, even if they wanted to on their own, because right now they don't have the votes to do it. And while I guarantee if you put that legislation up for a vote on the House floor on the side of floor, it wouldn't pass Republican muster. Because you even have former Freedom Caucus Chairman Bob Good coming out, calling it exactly the, quote, socialist scheme Republicans usually accuse Democrats of running. But let's do the math, because the numbers don't work. They're roughly $245 million a dollar to American citizens United States of America. Paying everyone $5,000 comes out to more than $1.2 trillion. That's landing just weeks after the national debt, cross 40 trillion for the first time in American history.

3:04JD Vance tried to defend the plan, saying it'd be funded through tariff revenue, except the government has only collected about $300 billion in tariffs since January of 2025. And more than $100 billion of that was already refunded after the United States Supreme Court struck down the tariff as illegal. There's no just pot of money sitting there to pay for it. And here's the part that should actually really worry. Trump didn't frame this as policy. He framed it as a reward for voting for him at the convention. He told the crowd, quote, if there were Republicans, when you win with us and you get $5,000, legal experts say that language comes very close to violating federal law that criminalizes paying people to vote a certain way. We'll ultimately have to see what happens next there. But tonight is Donald Trump's second attempt at trying to persuade voters. And they're going to try to persuade voters in front of a crowd full of Republican and Dallas, Texas. And ultimately, we'll have to see if it works. But right now, right now, even his own party saying no. You know who else is saying no? The courts. Trump was losing again in the courts today.

4:05Start with Missouri. In Missouri, the United States Supreme Court ruled, Justice Kavanaugh ruled that they cannot use the new gerrymandered congressional maps that would eliminate a second congressional district in Missouri, a Democratic held congressional district in Missouri. The Supreme Court again rejected a Trump-backed push to use new congressional maps drawn to hand Republicans an extra-how seat this fall. Republican legislature in Missouri re-drew those lines last September at Trump's request. But the goal of dismantling the Kansas City area seat long held by Democratic Congressman Immanuel Cleaver, a grassroots group called People Not Politicians gathered more than 300,000 signatures to force a statewide referendum on that map. And the Supreme Court of Missouri sided with them, ruling that the new lines can't take effect until 2027, and that the entire 2025 process just didn't comply with state laws. And Justice Kavanaugh agreed. Justice Kavanaugh, in a short one sentence ruling, said that any other court that says that you have to implement these new Republican laws, not going to work.

5:06Not going to work. It is state. But it's not just the Missouri Supreme Court and it's not just what happened at the United States Supreme Court today. Separately, a federal appellate court today handed Trump another election loss. A three-judge panel on the first circuit court of appeals unanimously rejected the White House's request to lift a block on the new postal service rules for mail and ballots. The judges wrote bluntly saying there is no evidence of past fraud or a likelihood of impending fraud, tied to the November election, directly contradicting Trump's running claims, and they agreed that Trump's rule likely violates the Constitution's election clause. I do want to briefly talk about AI because once again, AI is back in the news. Today, Anthropic, one of the largest AI companies in the world, said that it disrupted several potential plots this year, in which scientists used AI models to conduct research that could have helped develop biological weapons. The company said it couldn't even tell whether the work was legitimate or nefarious since research that leads to vaccines can also be used to engineer dangerous pathogens. In one case, in May, a scientist asked Clawed to help write a grant application

6:09for research on the Chikungaya virus, aiming to engineer mutations that would make it more harmful through repeated infection of live animals. Anthropic flagged it, why? Because the work tied to a military research institute. The same report also documents attempted use of AI to build software for firearms, missiles, drones, and bombs tracing cases to China, Russia, and Iran's Houthi militia in Yemen, plus having Russian state media using Clawed to manufacture fake news about an election in Moldova. When asked about concerns about AI, here's what the president of the United States has to say. People say the worst case scenario with AI is that the robots, the machinery learns to obviously it thinks for itself, that's what it does. And that could turn against humanity. I just don't have the dog rails. It's going to be fine. We'll always have something to stop. I'll have a little gear. I really don't like that. I really don't like that robot. We'll stop.
