The Comment for Conversation Show.

John Suntris here. The Star Trek Conversation continues with Jay from the Taki-On podcast. That's one of my favorite YouTube channels to go to for Star Trek updates. Jay always has insiders that he talks to and provides a lot of interesting information. And I will admit that should the same opinion when it comes to new track. But we also get into Stargate and a bit of Doctor Who because those are two other shows that Jay is a fan of. But it's great to talk to a guy like Jay who's from the UK and again we just kind of go through the laundry list of what's driving us nuts. We also preview a Thursday's episode of Strange New Worlds because it's the Sumpopra episode. And Trelein is back. The Squire of Gothos from the original series that was played by Rise Davies in the wedding episode where Spock wishes for a wedding between himself and Nurse Chapel. Ridiculous crap. Well, the Ridiculous crap is going to probably continue on Thursday

because if it's Trelein it's probably going to be silly. So that and more with Jay from the Taki-On podcast on today's word balloon. I should mention that at the beginning of the video, Jay had trouble hearing me so I've clipped that part off and we get right into Jay and I are talking about it. I think you'll enjoy this conversation with Jay from the Taki-On podcast. Coming soon, a new documentary from the people who brought you the legend of Kingdom Come. Bill Sinkiewicz, that Polish guy, examines the remarkable life, groundbreaking career, and dazzling artwork of one of comics' most influential creators featuring observations from luminaries like Jim Lee, Kevin Smith, Dennis Cowan, and many others. Coming soon, Bill Sinkiewicz, that Polish guy. If you like word balloon and want to support the conversation, join the League of Word Balloon Listens today, patreon.com slash word balloon. Thank you for your support, League of Word Balloon listeners. All right everybody, well Jay, Jay will join us shortly hopefully. All right, let's see how about now Jay. I got you. All right, fantastic. All right, sorry everybody. Bloody technical. Bloody technical issues. That's always the same. We were chatting away quite happily before the live start. It happens, but Jay welcome. It's great to see you from the Taki on Pulse podcast. One of my favorite trek and stargage observation podcast. Oh thank you sir. My pleasure. Absolutely. Oh yeah, no you do. You do great work dude. I enjoy it. I try. And I much like two investigators from different precincts that I want to compare notes because you've got

your inspiring and I've got my insiders and excellent. Yes, so very good. All right, excellent. And Don is hearing us. So that's great to see and I appreciate you watching Don. Um Jay, where to start my god. I share your pain. And I have a bad. We're both critics when it comes to a new trek. And unfortunately after after a bit of an oasis last week with. Oh no, I'm with you man. I've got my issues as well, but we're going to get this week. Apparently sir, it's going to have to be doing very carefully. And with Trilani and again, I'm like, oh for god's sake, haven't they messed with that canon enough that they're going to do it again? Yeah. Every instinct they have Jay is so wrong. And they think again, this is really going to be two guys yelling at clouds, I think. But that's okay. But really, I mean, the ways they think

they're satisfying the audience that has been with Trek. When did you start watching? Trek. Oh, a TNG was my trek. So I'd have been about 13 or 14 years old when it came out. I did watch the original series before that as a as a young type. I used to love sci-fi movies over here. There's a channel called BBC two. We know we have the BBC. Everyone knows the BBC. So BBC two used to have these old sci-fi movies and they had Star Trek and all these old black and white movies. I started watching Carrey Grant movies when I was a kid. So I watched all these. I used to watch all these movies. I watched The Day The It's To Still. And I can't remember what the movie was called. There was this one kid in here. It was, oh, T. Wismer. And that always stuck in my head. Somebody getting the comments telling what that film was. But I just loved all these old 60s movies. You know, like the monster movies as well,

like them and the big spider-tranquil one. I think it was called It or something. But I loved I used to love all those old movies. Yeah. So yeah, I watched it. But I only got I only became a trekkie when it's about 15 or 15. Okay, well, that's cool. And obviously not only next gen, but do you say it's nine Voyager and it's price. Yeah. I'm curious. Because the, you know, well, first of all, I, you know, the Kelvin movies obviously we caught three. Yeah, I mean, you're well versed in the world. I mean, we were all so excited when they made the announcement for Discovery. And then we got the product. It's in an odd. And I wonder if you feel this way. It almost feels like that first season of Discovery. There's some decent episodes upon reflection. Yeah. I mean, for me, I think I spoke about this a couple of weeks ago when I was sort of saying, I don't think I spoke to an insider that is a big star Trek fan. And he was saying, I don't think

Discovery's as bad as you remember. And I sort of had to mull over that. And I sort of, I came to the conclusion Discovery was probably not that bad. But for a few creative decisions that was so vile, they just ruined everything. And mainly the Klingons. That was, and not just that they looked weird and the ships were wrong and all that sort of thing, they were creepy. They had some like sex stuff in them stuff as well. I'm just like, what are you going on? But then the second season with the Lorca and all that. Oh, that's the first season, wasn't it? Sorry. Sorry. So I've never watched them again. So, you know, but Lorca was quite good. The whole thing with Michael Burnham was stupid. But then we went into the second season. It wasn't awful. We should have liked Discovery. They then jumped into the future. So these are some of the ships are really cool. Again,

I'm a trekkie. I love the space ships and stuff. I should have liked Discovery. But I didn't. I'm with you. To be honest, again, they don't know how right smart Star Trek. I'm going back to that. And I really like what I mean now, good Lord was strange in the world. The direction that it is now changed. And it was so obvious that it suddenly occurred to them. Now, my insider told me that the response in the first season to the fairy tale thing with Mabenga's daughter. And that whole thing that people, you know, the newer fans fell in love with that. And they started. So that's when they started thinking, all right, let's start to make him ex. Then of course, the musical, which you and I of course can't stand. Yeah. I loved it. I don't know what you mean. Well, yeah, man. And again, feel free to swear. All right. Yeah, I hated it.

I really hated it all the way through. And then we had K-pop klingons. And I went into a hatred of a thousand fires. I genuinely was like, I would rather put my fingers in my eyes than watch that fucking mess again. And it would be all right if the songs were good, but they weren't. So they were really generic boring, crappy songs. There was no Disney classics in this, you know. Well, in comparing it to their favorite touchstone, the Buffyverse, and now Clever, the songs were. And they again, they tried. And I will even say in a small way, I appreciate that they're trying. I appreciated the idea of a documentary episode. But they feel as well. Yeah, they failed in that execution. It was so again, you know, they don't know how to write. They really don't. And I

don't know what talent pool they're pulling from because we know there's intelligent sci-fi being done like the expanse and silo and some of these other shows. And certainly it doesn't have the baggage that comes with 60 years of Star Trek. And I could appreciate that. But it's a prequel. So as long as they sort of have a think about what happened in the original series who respected a little bit, they shouldn't really have a major problem. But they don't. And they all go, we've got Jean Roddenberry's Kid. We've got Roddenberry. As president of Roddenberry, ex you know, Jean, sorry, Roddenberry productions. And I'm like, I'm not sure he actually knows anything about Star Trek. Well, he did grow up around it. And I think it really is kind of an honorarium, really, then a influence on. I think it's different to be somebody that's on set to somebody that actually then watches it. He was in and around it. He's got the Roddenberry name, but did he actually

love it? Did he actually watch it? Did he actually? I'm not sure. Do you watch when Rod speaks and does interviews or? Yeah, I watched a few. It seems to me he's almost telegraphing and acknowledging that the audience has been divided. Most recently, he has made some comments, which to be fair, does make you look at it and think, you know, well, particularly when we weren't sure where the Kurtzmann were not technically still sure if Kurtzmann's getting a new deal or not. But I think it was about three or four months ago, he actually said about, he talked about the new regime at Paramount. He talked about, he did talk about the division. And he seemed to be implying at the time that Kurtzmann wasn't getting a new deal and why, so I think his words rang a big bell for me at the time. But yeah, but then I've seen him in interviews talking about Star Trek and he talks an awful lot about being upset with his dad. Some of the behind the scenes stuff he knows

about dad and things, but I don't see him very often actually then talking about the episodes, the history of it, the canon that that sort of thing. He's more of a, I was uncertain, I did this, and I did that, I met this person, I met that person, blah, blah, blah. This actor was lovely behind the scenes and this actor was a bit of a dick behind the scenes. That's what he talks, oh, that's what I've seen him talking about anyway. You know, no, it's what is Star Trek sort of thing. Here are a couple of questions. Don Lanzar wants to know, is it fair to hold these writers to the standards of the Great Writers' Tutorials? Of course not, because again, we were very fortunate to have great writers that knew how to write science fiction, theodore Sturgeon and Richard and Robert Block, the psycho writer, and I mean, one's not even mentioning that George Clayton Johnson had an opportunity to meet before he passed away to get a wrote the man. So yeah, I mean, that's the thing, that was the error hard enough, certainly. Do you know the difference between a HELOC and an

HEI? Spelling? Well, they are spelled differently, but no. While both are ways to access your home's equity, they're very different. You see, a HELOC comes with monthly payments. While a splotero HEI doesn't, it's essentially a smarter way to access your home's value. You get cash up front, and then you can repurchase your option when you cash settle, refinance or sell. Hooray! Are you gonna cheer through this whole explanation? Yes, excellent. Okay, a HELOC has strict income and credit requirements. Spoo! Hiss! While an HEI from Splotero is open to people with homes that are worth $200,000 and have a 500 minimum credit score, and there's no income requirement. Huzzah! Did you say Huzzah? I'm trying to bring it back. Well, good luck to you. Visit splintiro.com today and access your home's equity. No monthly payments, just cash and hand. Splotero. It's 2026. But again, the people they got for the bourbon era writers, they didn't have the pedigree of those 60s writers, and they still managed to do it. Don't you think it's interesting

that clearly the actors have much more latitude than they did back then? Now I think it was extreme during the 80s and 90s where hey, the script is the script, and if you want to change a word, we're going to have to make like four or five calls. And even then, you're probably not going to get your way. And now it really feels like, for instance, the Muppet episode, good lord, that was a suggestion from the cast. Yeah, apparently. Yeah, apparently. I think they're encouraged as well. I know in like the old, no, my favorite episode, The Cross Over with Lower Decks, those old scientists. They were encouraged to improvise and play around the script and things, and that would never have happened at TNG ever. But at the same time, the writers were on set quite a lot with TNG and stuff. So the actors weren't allowed to mess around, but I was told that anyway, the case with the writers is definitely going, yeah, that's not right, we're going

to do this. But also you're going to remember, the writers for TNG and the original series, you've got to tip your hats to them because a lot of the time these guys were writing, you know, they were, well, they'd write all year round, but there were episodes they were saying, the actors didn't get scripts like the day before. And because they were still bloody typing away, working on it, particularly towards the end of a run, because you know, they were writing, writing, writing, writing, writing, but then once production started, they would slowly catch up, something. So you've got to give top perspective for that. The writers nowadays have eight months or something to write 10 episodes. I under, under sack after rules, the writers rule, sorry, is it WGA? They have, there's certain rules about how long you get to write it and stuff, and I'm thinking, you give them too much time because it's like they're overthinking everything. They can't just do simple, and I would say there's a mantra for me, keep it simple, stupid. And I know Einstein said, the genius is in the simplicity. And when you try to over complicate things,

an engineer and stuff like this, you say, you want to do as simple as possible. They, it's almost like they've got too much time on their hands. And I don't think they know what Star Trek is. I honestly don't think they do. I don't think they've got a clue. They, well, what they know almost comes off as mocking Star Trek. I mean, that, that episode last last season. The mystery episode. Yes, the holineck episode, or whatever in the, you know, canon, or in that time period, qualifies as a holineck. But yeah, I mean, they, and I get it to a degree that on the surface, you know, William Shatton was throwing around paper mache rocks and things like that. But again, the pedigree of writing, they really seem to dismiss it, except for Ohorah's characters, passionate plea. And it's like, oh, this show is so important to people. And it's going to be so important to people. And it's like, well, that's not what you're showing us right now. You know, and, and also my god, I don't you wrote need, I, I literally swear at the screen

when we get obvious dialogue like last week. And then Elliott says, you know, starships, sometimes we'll provide miracles. Miracle will scum us a miracle worker. It's like, Jesus, man, it's like, so on. Yeah. The puppet episode when Pike is about to be ejected, any sort of makes the, the comment from Khan. And I, I, I, I, I genuinely, I had to comment in that in the video that I did review. And it's like, they are actually, it physically makes me angry. The murder mystery episode, I came away from that. And I'll get comments occasionally, go and sell new TV show, calm down. And I'm like, what's that murder mystery episode? And I genuinely come away from it, pissed off. I'm so you're taking how is Star Trek, taking the piss out of Star Trek? How is it making, I mean, I know, Jean Roddenbury, the history, Jean, he wasn't the nicest guy in the world. But to us, he's Star Trek, Jesus, he's, he's, you know, he's, he is the guy that created

the thing we love, showing a bit respect. And so they showed him as an alcoholic Pratt. Yes. Paul Wesley in it was down straight in Saltine. I'll do in the, all this crap and stuff. I'm just like, it was straight up in Saltine. And I'm just watching it going, this is, what am I watching? I'm with you, man. When you watch some didn't go galaxy quest did Star Trek, better than Star Trek. How is that right when it's a picking comedy movie that is mocking the, in a way, mocking Star Trek? And they do say that that's the greatest form of respect, isn't it, when you sort of impersonate something, but it was a comedy, right? And it's okay, occasionally, because of course, I'm friends with Keith DeCandido who you took to the past a week or so ago. Yeah. I don't blame, hey, man, I don't blame him. We could, we could be friends, but disagree. And also, I kind of feel like if you write even novels for Star Trek, it's like a

football team, you know, you're gonna, you're gonna support. Yeah, yeah. Winnerly, you're supporting your guys. I will say though, actually, you mentioned to me that you know him and that did make me stop and think, oh, actually, this is a real person. And I actually did follow big guilds, you about every year. Well, yeah, but I might have gone a bit far. But again, I, I, when he's like, oh, you mean the show that had a gangster episode or an earthware, right? It was Roman modern times. And it's like, yeah, but again, as we point out, it was one episode out of 30 or 25. And we only have 10. And when you have that little real estate to do as many parodies and mocking, it's like, you lose the plot as I saw someone make a comment about the soap opera that we're getting on Thursday. And some of his comparisons were downright stupid. If you're gonna go, yeah, but don't forget, this is the, this is the series that gave us Spock's brain. I'd be like, yeah, okay, I get that. That is not a good episode of Star Trek. And you can poke holes in some

episode of Star Trek, but some of the ones he's poke holes on, like, that's an iconic episode of Star Trek. And also, then he said, like, there was a Nazi planet. And I'm like, I'm not sure you watch the episode because that's not what that's about. Yeah, you miss, yeah, you miss the point completely that episode. And so, yeah, I disagreed with him wholeheartedly and several of his, several of his points, to be honest. The modern stuff lacks the clever. And I think that's, again, if you can find a way of doing some of these other genres, but still managing to be clever, then I'll cut you a little bit more slack. I mean, compare the Black and White Noah episode to the big, the big goodbye from TNG's first season, the first day of San El. And it's like, again, it was part of the story, but, you know, they, they did other things with it. And then again, they, and my god, the thing, you know, an American television, it was, it won a Peabody Award. And that's a very prestigious award.

I don't see a new track winning any prestigious awards. Other than, I talked to David Desmaltz in the actor, and he was in the Saturn Awards. And he said, oh, yeah, but it was cool that they honored Star Trek. And I'm like, yeah, it's kind of, but, you know, it's 60th anniversary. They're gonna really not do something. I mean, it was like, yeah, it wasn't 60th anniversary. I don't think they did anything. And we're not getting a 60th anniversary Star Trek episode at all. And it's not Kurtzman's fault. There's been massive delays and things. This series is basically a year later than it was supposed to be. So they weren't, and you remember how long ago it was filmed. It was filmed nearly two years ago, something, you know, it's a long time ago. So I don't think it's quite that long, was it? But it's not me. So they weren't, it was written two years ago, something. So it's a 60th anniversary Star Trek. We've got no new Star Trek in development. We've got a movie that's been written, but won't be out for probably two or three years. And obviously,

the Kurtzman stuff is coming to an end. And we're not actually even getting a special Star Trek episode. So what does that say about the state of Star Trek right now? I know this is not all Kurtzman's fault, but it's a mess. It's, it's, the 60th anniversary is going out with a whimper. They haven't done anything. And that's sad, really. I kind of suspect that the one episode that we, that we're going to get either the nine through 10th episode, where we look in the future. And again, seems like a lot more pilot for a Trek year one, because we're with the, with the classic hairdo, and you know, or Shadner Kirk is in the center chair and everything. So maybe that in a, in a slight way. Yeah, it will be packaged as that, but it was never supposed to be. It was never intended to be. But that will be packaged as it, but I agree with you, it was never supposed to be,

it's not, it was never supposed to be the 60th anniversary episode. It's supposed to be year one episode. And I think he won is the most stupid idea I've ever heard. And honestly, I want to, a key for Galsman, just, I say, it doesn't get what was wrong with Stranger New Worlds. If he thinks that's a good idea. And one of the biggest problem with Stranger New Worlds is we've all sort of collectively decided it's not prime universe. It's, it's not really going into Kirk Trek, because you've made too many mistakes. So, well, that's, I don't know if you talk to your insider about this, but I wonder two things. One, given the younger audience that does like this and also grew up and the first trek was the Kelvin movies, I think they're more okay with taking a piss at Star Trek, because even those three movies were, were kind of parody. But I also wonder, and I don't know if your insider knows this or not. 10 years, like what, first of all, good news.

I have a friend that was doing shows for Apple. And he's like, man, I know you're a big fan. This guy Chris Parnell that's coming in, he is a massive Star Trek fan. Yeah, you see. Right guy for this job. This is what I'm hearing. So, but I wonder two things. One, do we know, depending on how things shake out with Galsman, do they make a deal and they still can own it without having to pay Galsman, or do they choose to ignore it the way the Kelvin movies are? And further, this new audience, if we get back to traditional Star Trek, are they going to be like, well, this sucks, so it's not funny. And I like it when it's funny. You know what I mean? Yeah. Well, it is right. Chris Parnell is a massive Star Trek fan. And that's been publicly a few of the head of Paramount Plus TV was talking about just a couple of weeks ago. And he's a huge fan. He's the right guy for the job. And I agree. I am aware through different people that he's really passionate about it. The risk of speaking to the person

I've been speaking to most recently is that he says that basically his fear is the movie to welcome. And if it doesn't do very well, we won't get any Star Trek on our screens for 10 years at least. And it'll come back at some point, but he's worried that we might not get that. Do you know the difference between a HELOC and an HEI? Um, spelling? Well, they are spelled differently, but no. While both are ways to access your home's equity, they're very different. You see, a HELOC comes with monthly payments. While a splitter-o HEI doesn't, it's essentially a smarter way to access your home's value. You get cash upfront, and then you can repurchase your option when you cash settle, refinance, or sell. Are you going to cheer through this whole explanation? Yes. Excellent. Okay. A HELOC has strict income and credit requirements. Boo! Hiss! While an HEI from splitter-o is open to people with homes that are worth $200,000

and have a 500 minimum credit score. And there's no income requirement. Huzzah! Did you say Huzzah? Trying to bring it back. Well, good luck to you. Visit splintero.com today and access your home's equity. No monthly payments, just cash and hand. Splitter-o. It's 2026. We upgraded our phones, our cars, even our coffee. I think any streaming movie goes to the cinema, we'll probably not do very well at the cinema, compared to it's not going to be a billion dollar movie if it's just not, but it'll do really well on streaming. And that's all that Amazon actually cares about. It's all Paramount. Less to a lesser extent, really care about. And I think by the time H the own HBO, that'll be less of an impact for them. At the moment, Paramount is quite cinema-driven. Paramount plus doesn't really have the numbers, but once it's merged with HBO, that'll have less of an impact. I mean, like Amazon don't care really about the cinema release at all. If it doesn't bill in quid, brilliant,

but it'll go on prime, and like he, man, will get a sequel, even though it bombed at the cinema. Paramount don't really feel that way at the moment, but they will once with HBO's, really. With the point. But my understanding is they will never ignore it completely. They'll never wreck on it. They'll never pretend that Kyrgyzstan Trek didn't happen. They might reference things here and there, but generally speaking, it'll be ignored. It's probably the most likely. They've got a divorce settlement with Kyrgyzstan. They're not talking about exclusively. I'd got that one. I don't think anyone else knew at the time. But sometimes I say, I did this exclusively, and then I find that, no, no, no, because I don't watch other YouTube channels. I don't like no somebody else knew before you. I thought I knew first. Anyway. So the, I forgot what I say. Oh, so the divorce settlement is done. So royalties, all that sort of thing, any residuals and stuff, it's all agreed. So they can reference things if they want to,

but the general feeling is they probably won't too much. And that's why it's good that they're making the new movie and not doing another reboot. If they are going to a different ship, we were talking off the air. I'm sorry. And again, I understand how valuable time is, but I got to tell you IDW, the publisher that has a comic book license, they've been doing an excellent Star Trek. And two of my friends have been writing a series called Star Trek Red Shirts. And it's set in the TOS era, it's a completely different ship. It's a completely different crew. So people get killed off. And they're, you don't know what's going to happen. And that's another problem with new Trek. And specifically, even last week's episode, that I think in a general sense, I liked, but my friends and I were talking about it last night, don't quit Spock and Jeopardy. Don't put Mabenga in jeopardy. Oh, I didn't know. I didn't know Mabenga was in the original series. I haven't watched series until just 25 years. And I actually thought about affords. I did bloody know, but I

forgot. And it was not even though I was about third or fourth comment. I like, oh no, shit, I did know. But anyway, so I'm watching that going, kill him. Kill him. It's a much better episode if you kill him. And obviously, they didn't, and obviously it, again, they brought him back to life with magic. Yes. And that knows it. I was going to make the comment earlier about when you mentioned Buffy. And obviously, Buffy did the musical and they did the puppet episode. And Star Trek creators, I could give you gold and have mentioned that they spoke to the creator of Buffy, the show owner of Buffy and got some advice. And they said, you know, this way, Buffy, magic Star Trek, sci-fi. It's different. You can have a magical event that turns Angel into a puppet and it be bloody hilarious. You can have, oh, one of the best Buffy episodes for me when it was all completely silent all the way through because of magic. You could do whatever you want with magic. What you can't do is do a black and white episode and then come up with some

nonsensical reason why it's black and white. Because they said it's the sun. It's the sun that does it. Okay, that's fine. Why is it still black and white indoors? Because that doesn't make any sense. You have an artificial light. You should see color, but apparently you don't. Or aboard the enterprise with shields. It doesn't make any bloody sense. What makes sense is they wanted to do a black and white episode. That's it. Yeah. And then, yeah, no, you've finished your thought. Excuse me, Jay. I'm just saying, they just then come up with some, that's what I think the difference with the use of Techno Bubble is with Star Trek now. There was before, they used to use Techno Bubble to get to the story, but it was always, there was like a call of some sort of scientific principle or theory or something. A lot of you want back in TNG now. A lot of them, you're like, oh, that actually proved to be false. That's who, three, not true. Or the way they use Tachions,

the name of my pick and channel is actually not, not right, but at the time it was. And then, but then they would sometimes build a story around it, or they would actually have consultants and stuff that would tell them, yeah, this will work. It's not quite right, but it'll work. Now they do. I want to do a black and white episode. Is there some sort of thing that we can attach to it? The Sun? I'll get that'll do. And that's how they, when they did the zombies episode, they went flower. Oh, okay, that'll do. Genetic stuff. Fine. They don't really put enough effort in for me, which is also annoying when they have like six months to write the pig in episodes. The other thing that annoys me is, and it happened in last week's episode, and the black and white episode is when they bring back a character from the original series or whatever. And both core, the core character that they brought. I don't understand why core could not have facial hair.

And everyone's like, oh, Fumantiu, it's yellow face. And it's like, no, it's alien makeup. And you like, you know, that originally the clans were going to be red, but it's red in color, in 1960s color. So they made them brown. But again, it's not blackface. It's not in the Fumantiu thing. Obviously, they thought it was yellow face. And it's like, no, and it's this modern like perception and not really like thinking it through and a naturalizing on it. But really, just the characterization of core. And my god, Dr. Boyce, I'm a, I'm much like you. I love old horror and science fiction movies. John Huyth, the guy who played Dr. Boyce in the pilot and of course, Managerie, he has that wonderful McCoy-esque speech to Chris Pike about, hey man, you know, I know you're burnt out, but you know, what else are you going to do? This is what this is your, this is your best destiny as Spock says in Star Trek 2. And it's wonderful speech. And no, they've

got to make him an asshole that had to prop up the bank and also he wasn't the original enterprise surgeon. He was, he was an interim thing. It's like, why the fuck are you doing this? Like they just, they diminish legacy characters to build up their interpretations of modern Trek. And it's pointless. And again, I think it's insulting to us who know the canon. And I'm like, that was so unnecessary. Why don't you like Boyce? That's the thing isn't it? That's the thing there's in it. How much do they do is completely unnecessary. We had a good episode of Star Trek last week. It wasn't a bad episode, but they lumped that 24 stuff in. Yeah. For no reason. Like, none, it made no difference to the story at all, but they had to lob it in. The black and white episode. If you think of the general storyline, it's not a bad idea. Yeah. You know, I would do it

better. I think we were on, but a planet. There's an indigenous population. The Klingons who invaded and took over and they're policing it stuff. And I'm like, actually, we've never really seen that before. I'd quite like to know how that would, what would, what would the general population do when the Klingons turn up? That, you know, I mean, they're so that would be an interesting story. But they did a Casablanca remake instead. And I'm like, you had a good idea. Well, you had a nugget of a good idea. Why did you do this? Why? Because they want to play rather than give us a good Star Trek story. And that's the thing. Hey, man, you know, just like I do, the first Romulan story, is it an enemy within? I haven't watched the original series for a long time. T&G, I will tell you everything about the original series, not so much. Balance of terror is the killing episode. And you know, they read it with Pike and everything. But Mark Leonard, as that

Romulan captain, when he's talking to Kirk and he's like, you know, in another reality, I would have called you friend. And also he has that wonderful dialogue with his first officer. And it's like, well, we're at war. We've got to do this stuff. And the captain, you know, the Romulan captain is like, why must it always be war? And he just puts so much passion in his role. And we get this like guy who isn't a moding and all. And I'm not sure what I would have called you friend. It's like, yeah, what are you waiting for an insurance raid? What do you do? There's no stakes here. And it's again, it's so odd. The choices. And again, I don't know who's directing. But I wish these got these directors or producers would be more like, you know, something maybe pull back. Listen, I love Carol Cain as an actress. She really is brilliant. And I've seen her do strong drama, horror and comedy. But my god, Pele is the most annoying character.

Oh, yes. I loved her and scrooge. I hate her in Star Trek. She's so irritating. And I don't like they threw in this species from nowhere that live forever. And I'm like, we have one. Why do you just call them like the guy? And why don't we do that? Why have we got to do something else? And but they live. And she makes some really random comments about how she was, what was the one thing she was somewhere? She said, oh, I was there when he did it. I can't remember what it was now. But it was like this massive event in human history. So I was there when that happened. And I was like, why are you why are you doing that? It felt like you know how when they somebody did hypnotize you and you find out, oh, you regressed and you had past lives. You were Napoleon. I'm just like, why? And that that that that just made me go like that. That's time. Why would if you've been there? I don't get it. And they said they, I know they

did it in section, that section that you want. Bloody Academy with Aki, who was a character of the guru on me, even though she was at first the most annoying thing. It's like, I'm going to have serious conversation, but I'm going to do it like this in my chair. I'm like, oh, I'm going to speak to a really important ambassador. We're going to lie down on the set. Like this one. I'm talking to him like, what are you doing? But if you think of her as a hippie, not as a captain, it's a bit easier to get your head around and I just like the actress. I'm just like calling out. Oh, I love them. But yeah, I'm not I'm not crazy about everything. And also they make the guy from the war college. This like prick edges. Like I mean, and also I've seen the guy in interviews. And much like you were said about Keith. And I'm like, oh, you know, I was way too hard on this poor guy because he's just given you know, all these actors, they're given the lines. Yeah, they're told what to do. Yeah, it's not their fault. But my God, they made him such a jerk. And also I can't help but think that if the guys in charge of the war college and you really

wanted to see a contrast, make them a big burly John Wayne kind of guy. That's like, you know, we have to work out. Just thinking that and serve some weasley little turd. Yeah. And make him the opposite to. Yeah. The difference between a Helac and an HCI is more than spelling. A Helac means monthly payments. A splotero HCI doesn't. A Helac has strict requirements. A lot or or fruples from another species. But if you're going to tell me that kling odds that are so aggressive and you've got two men and one woman in a fruple or three person relationship, I think the two guys are going to kill each other because one of them is going to want to sleep with the woman. I don't think husband number two is sitting on the couch well husband number one's getting down with the life and everything. I don't know. This is going to sound like you know when let races say my best friend is black. I've got a I've got a mate that's gay and he's a huge star track fan and I was told from bad at great because I'm not sure this show is that respectful. Anyway, no, it's fucking not. They've basically got this weird little character who's ashamed to be gay and they keep doing these really creepy moments in it and stuff and like I go, no, it's not respectful. It just winds me up and it's just like it's not what we want for the representation of a gay

character in the future and he actually said what he would prefer is I because he works in a similar field to me. So we have this thing with particularly with people who learn in disabilities and stuff is we call it normalization and what we want is people that are different to be in the community and that way you see them and you being and it becomes normal and he says look being gay and being homosexual today has become quite normal. It's not something that gets a lot of stigma anymore. It says look you'll get the odd bell end sort of giving you a bit crap or whatever but generally speaking people don't really care and that was his sort of take on it and he's actually as well you didn't do this character and the whole thing about this character is I'm gay and I'm ashamed of it. I don't really know how to deal with it and he's like that was 20 years ago that might been relevant but today it's just insulting and I was like yeah I could kind

of see where you're coming from and it's really hard to watch because he's a really awkward character and he's creepy and you know I know what they're trying to do with him they're trying to be a teenager even though he's in his 20s it's trying to be an awkward nerdy teenager they just made him difficult to watch it's like oh do you know they they bit where he's gonna he's talking and you think they're gonna kiss the guy that threw a formatted glitter. Jeremy yeah they're staring at each other and that scene lasts about 30 seconds it should have lasted 10 and it might have had an impact but because it lasted so long I'm just there watching it going is this gonna end it's like yeah or don't just end the scene quicker but this is like I actually do this to my son I will hug him and then I just won't let go and then I'll just I just whisper to see you tell me when it's getting tell me when it's getting awkward. No my gay friends and my gay friends as well are like

no it really isn't flattering it is very stereotypic I said that about a deer I want to say from discovery the non-binary person when she tells or when they tell the engineer Anthony rap I want to be referred to as they big dramatic moment and this is 400 years from now so just be oh okay again show acceptance it's not a big dramatic thing and then and also you know Jay you know again I I got a couple decades on you I this whole thing of it seems there are members of the audience they need to be seen they need to be represented and rather than showing them aspirational characters that you know God I want to be more like Spocker I want to be more like Kirk or or whoever they want to see themselves and I keep hearing that well that's what I like about new trek because I can see me there and it's like I have no business being on a ship I don't want to see me on a ship blow up the goddamn thing if I'm serving I have no skill yeah I mean yeah if

you're aboard a starship you are well-trained you are a clever person I don't mind seeing fat people even though you would change the uniform because there's not going to be pretty I don't care that people look like people but they should be intelligent and in particular academy they weren't a girl swallowed her combat and then when there was a problem she freaked out um there was no there was she should be the best of the best getting to Starfleet Academy you mean her she was she was on more on yeah um yes my god and truly like you know what I was hoping and maybe we'll see it in the second season if they decide to go back to this character but that either one of two things that she gets more confidence and it's more competent on on a ship or literally you know something I'm not cut out for this there was a show in America called the paper chase and it was all about law school and one of this one of the students by the end of the first

season quit because he can't handle the pressure and it's like that would have been real but instead she's just as god when uh when when they were on the ship and read alert read alert it's like okay I don't think this person should be or or have okey say hey you know something we're gonna transfer to the science department and you're gonna stay on the campus we're not gonna be on ships anymore I think that's a better fit for you because again at school I understand it's like you know it's okay to make mistakes in school but my god yeah no I agree with him and that could something we could connect to I mean don't make her a dribbling more on but you could do a storyline with here's the end this isn't for me and this is too much and actually that would undeline the fact that what they're asking to do is hard you know um but we get accay having you know that oh I've forgotten all the names now um the main star of it um I want to say it's calum but it's not

Caleb thank you um that nearly killed everybody three times and she kept him around um if there was no logic to that series um but Caleb had been working out so he took his t-shirt off a few times um and I don't get me wrong they use sex and star trek they always have done um but that whole bit we're just watching it going in his sunbathe and I'm like what's going on and yeah I just I know it's academy was a mess from beginning to end if I'm honest um but I actually said to somebody um I reckon if I edited academy down to like four or five episodes that were like 40 minutes long it probably could have been quite good I think it could have been thank really good but at a Paul Tiamati would have been in every episode you know bringing up Paul Tiamati another thing they do poorly and they did it in the final episode and they also did it in the strange new world's episode where number one was on you know

in a hearing about you and start fleet or not they set up these straw man defenses for the non-popular side as far as the viewer and it's like I have a good friend that's a screenwriter and he's a former lawyer and he's like oh I really like the number one episode I'm like I hated it because what was missing was fine if you want to make it that uh you're treating augmented people like gay people and treating them poorly that that's bad but the con defense that the the world war two vets who wrote the original show are like uh genetic and manipulation if absolute power corrupts absolutely yeah you've seen it before in our history the way to compare compare that to the Bashir episode of Deep Space 9 when he is outed as being genetically enhanced and it's like no this is legit again by all means I don't want number one to get booted out but make a stronger argument or when Riker had to you know testify or uh uh

yeah for data yeah get against data in measure of a man and and the same thing with Tiamati and the academy thing also how did Tiamati's character go from being a space pirate stealing stuff to all of a sudden he's like in this political movement they've got their own television network I mean it was like where the hell did that come from like they should have seen it that from the start and I kept saying uh the kids could almost be watching this uh rebel network because that's where all the cool cool music is it's kind of like pirate radio was in uh in in the UK in the 60s and it's like you know make it like that and like I know it shouldn't be listening but this is where the music is and see the fact that there is this movement because he really went from being this space pirate with a ship to all of a sudden all these worlds are like yeah startfully let's uh let's really take a look at this wait a minute and again hitting bullshit bullshit not equal uh uh court case yeah and again they they yeah the storyline for why Paul Jimati hated the federation

it was so lazy I was green lasers done done done that red I'm going oh you I'm in series he's not the best you could do I mean really um all of his uh english idioms it's like it's like a uh origami chicken what is an origami it's like it's like that's the first time I've ever heard of an origami chicken and why does this half-tellerite have clinging on know what the fucking origami chicken is why he got a tiktok toe-shaped in the side of his head as well you know supposedly that was in the script and they cut it for some reason and I don't remember the reasoning I heard there was a reason for it okay but still she's probably a shitty reason yeah probably but he would have to keep doing that as well unless it's a scar thing I don't know I just yeah we never got seen having a haircut we got to you load of them nonsense with these people where's mr. from uh tng the bolian exactly yeah exactly and I forgot about that character the blue solid

gonna mind absolutely I hate the way they play spock and it and again it's like this it's like I've never been with humans before really well I think you went to the academy even if you're even as Dave's like now said there was like a Vulcan like group in the academy although uh one of my friends last night was making the point where I thought spock was supposed to be the first guy to be of the first Vulcan in starfleet because he had a problem with the new intern being there and I'm like yeah but there's enough time in spock salute and at this point so it might have been a couple years but I hate the way they play him like a freshman I don't um I do because my first thought was he supposed to be the first Vulcan then I corrected myself and I thought because I thought that from undiscovered country was where I got that from but he doesn't actually say the first Vulcan says you the first Vulcan to be top of your class do you know the difference between a Helac and an H.E.I. um spelling well they are spelled differently but no while both are ways to access

your home's equity they're very different you see a Helac comes with monthly payments boom while a splitter O H.E.I. doesn't it's essentially a smarter way to access your home's value you get cash up front and then you can repurchase your option when you cash settle refinance or sell are you gonna cheer through this whole explanation yes excellent okay a Helac has strict income and credit requirements boo hiss while an H.E.I. from splitter O is open to people with homes that are worth $200,000 and have a 500 minimum credit score and there's no income requirement haza did you say haza i'm trying to bring it back well good luck to you visit spl it ero.com today and access your home's equity no monthly payments just cash in hand splitter O it's 2026 we upgraded our phones our cars even our coffee so why are we still acting like pleasure is negotiable at pink cherry it's not they've got hundreds of toys that actually deliver and whether

you know exactly what you like or you're still figuring it out there is a wide range to explore if you'd rather skip the guesswork their mystery boxes make it easy they curate a mix for you so you can discover new favorites without overthinking it and they ship discreetly with free shipping on orders over $59 which we love so go to pink cherry dot com and use promo code Chelsea to save up to 80% off site wide because life is hard feeling good shouldn't be pink cherry dot com because everyone deserves pleasure it's fall in America make it count at the ram driving to fall sales event make it powerful with our strongest ram 1500 ever make it move with the ram heavy duty with an available commons diesel and make it go the distance with a 10 year or 100,000 mile powertrain limited warranty hurry and now for great deals during the ram driving to fall sales event excludes fully electric vehicles apply to 2026 model year vehicles non transferable visit moapart.com for complete details and a copy of the powertrain limited warranty come and visit registered trademark of commons ain't ram and heavy our registered trademarks of FCA US LLC

and that's why you're so proud of it so I don't think they ever said he was the first Falcon I don't think somebody can get in the commons probing correct me if they just said something in the original series because again I don't know the original series as well sorry but that was mind-sing from unscrupter country then I watch again oh no they don't actually say that but my issue with the way they've done spock and they use manadurie as an excuse for this because he's more human in that episode so they said well at some point then he must have started to rely he must have shifted away from it and gone more Vulcan and they've had a couple of opportunities to sort of to show that and they haven't he's still trying to get into it with this human side and but again he's not logical at times he makes some really superstition and she the pretty Vulcan is there for no reason and I did I did point out in the video the intern the

intern the intern the intern I did point out at one point in the last episode Scotty tells her to do a ship ride communication her near answer is that's not my job it's who who is job and I was just like think that through dickhead and so and how are we telling her that you fuck what is you know to me it's not saying you're supposed to be an intelligent logical being what the hell are you talking about but again that's the writing man you know that's that's somebody going oh no this is great and also I keep saying other than and someone pointed out that to bring is a little different and Spock certainly is but they pretty much play Vulcan's the same way and they get them wrong completely do you understand in the enterprise era that there might have been a bit more not racism but just you know dismissive attitude with humans and also got in discovery Sarah and I and I keep hearing rumors that we might get Sarah before the end of this season yeah

yeah I think yeah I think we are yeah but I hate that like uh Sarah you know obviously had problems with Spock joining Starfleet and everything is for that story but he's bemused by Michael Burnham he's obviously oh those humans aren't they silly and then you go back to my one of my favorite exchanges between Sarek and Spock is at the end of Star Trek 4 after you know and the old father thank you for coming most kind and he's like you know I have to admit maybe I was wrong about Starfleet these these associates of your good character and he goes through my friends and Sarah bristles in a country club vulcan like oh yeah that friend bullshit that you you know that you have okay whatever that's not the same guy that's not the discovery Sarah and I hate that I really really hate yeah and I think this comes from the 19 2009 Star Trek series is obviously Kurt some were so involved in because they changed the cling on they changed the Vulcans in that

they made them nasty like they're they're spiteful almost or I'm a question of the word is but I mean you've got to bit where they're bullying Spock at the start when they're in those random ditchy classrooms things and they pick on him and he reacts and they do that to show his emotional side but I'm like I'm not sure bullying is logical but let's we're okay we'll go with it they just seems to have got a little bit confused about what a vulcan actually is but there is no ever from the original series in the movies there is no thing about ever him exploring his human side or doing anything like that he in anything he struggles with it he becomes friends with Kirk and he doesn't really understand it um you've got the bit where um they've they've found him and they brought him back in the void show and I've started the void show and I've been he says

you're my friend and Spock doesn't really understand it um and that's that's what a vulcan supposed to be they suppress in their human emotions or bad things happen um you know and it's like that's the whole point of a vulcan is that they used to be violent um incredibly emotional people and they turned away from it to survive right you're right I don't seem to have remembered that for Spock at the moment well I'm sure that they have to they feel they need to fill in much like I said about Pelea saying that you know sometimes star starships can provide miracles and the same thing with the Kirk Spock relationship and they are so like cramming this together and it's like no completely unnecessary there's an original the naked time which is a really early first season episode of of the original series and he says there uh Jim you know you're my friend I'm ashamed to admit it things like that or really the great moment in city on the edge of forever when he's like

Jim Edith Keeler's gonna have to die and it really is it's like momentous like wow he's not calling him captain he's calling him Jim we cause him Jim all the fucking time I'm not drinking new worlds and it's like I like it yeah it takes away it takes away from that later episode and I think Strangely Wheels does that quite a lot they do things that take away from the impact or whatever happens later um and yeah the whole thing that now Kirk and Spock are friends because of the mind melt some like well that again it's worse than that it's stupid but also it takes away from the whole journey they then have in the original series in the movies yes yes it makes that irrelevant oh are the friends because of a mind melt okay so the whole journey through the series is irrelevant and more the movies to be honest the movies is just irrelevant then now okay bye are we gonna be able to go more than an hour Jay is that all right can we hit an hour and a half yes code of that and I appreciate you saying that what do you think they're going to

do with Laon do you think in a killer do you think the temporal comps are gonna come and go you know something you don't belong here gone or I've heard others postulate that number one Laon and or take us all go to this uh division 12 paranormal thing and that's the way to get the enterprise division 12 was one of the things that was pitched apparently when they um they were five or six shows that Kurt's been pitched when the new regime came in and that apparently this division 12 was one of them so um they were probably thinking something about that I don't know if that's what they'd have done I was told this series this season has a car episode right but I don't know what that means so something will happen that that will explain Laon and think in this season apparently um but like I said it literally says there's a car episode and I'm like you can give me

more context than that you prick I don't know what that means um but I keep using the pejorative of when if you go back to space seed and this is supposedly a prequel to space seed where it's like oh that's Hitler you know I used to date a girl named Susie Hitler um I wonder if you're related I mean it's just yeah it's not yeah it's not yeah it's like my and why did it have to be trawling make them a cue just make them a cue that's why yeah but they think they're doing like us favors and they are isn't that a great easter egg no you're shit mom can it yeah oh it just takes away from what the gothust character was and they ignore the fact as well that the squire gothust relied on technology because that's how they defeat him um but they just pushed pushed over that they he's using technology but also um it seems because once Kirk shatters the mirror he still seems to have whatever is causing his powers and then those higher beings that are

experiencing a they float over yeah I mean yeah it's just I think that is more going back to that they changed the cue and then people went old if tron was a cue and they've sort of gone you okay um but the thing was with that again that episode took away from one of the great episodes of Star Trek it made it kind of irrelevant yes because and Spock should I don't just actually all their memories get wiped I can't remember no he did he did encounter trillane yeah and I did the same thing I'm like well maybe maybe he wasn't part of the landing party so maybe Spock didn't see trillane oh no he was there so it's like the squire gothust he should go oh it's you yeah I know you um oh this is bad he has powers this is bad um sort of thing um I think that whole episode changed out the cues powers worked as well a little bit um well he was able to sort of control behavior and things could cue do that well um if you remember

uh Olivia Dobbo I think played the woman that came from cue parents in TNG and she she made riker fall in love with her I really see this and so you know so you know I'll talk about that yeah it's not so it doesn't do it very often though and cue do it's generally speaking they control matter yeah but also yeah but also trillane is supposed to be a child do you I don't know if you ever read do you ever read any of the novels or anything uh I used to years ago or sorry I I have heard some of them yeah because Peter David wrote that great um uh novel that had basically trillane as the illegitimate child of cue uh okay that that was kind of implied in the pen I thought that was kind of brilliant I did like that john's lancies voice was the parent I did like I thought that was quite clever um be think says my issue is fox hole character arc from TOS through the movies is going from trying to be purely vulcan to embracing the elements of

his humanity strange new worlds makes it look like he regressed uh prior to TOS well you know that they keep saying yeah but he smiled in the cage and it's like yeah but that's because they hadn't figured out the character yet and I mean Nemo himself said I was playing up against Jeffrey Hunter Jeffrey Hunter was playing him very straight and serious yeah so I wanted to do a contrast then mid mid sees a couple of episodes in they came up with what they wanted for Spock because there are like winning I know in uh I think it's Charlie actually something where uh Spock's playing the harp and uh and who is singing any smiling with the horror and stuff and having a good time you know that kind of thing and it's like again they hadn't completely figured out the character yet but they're like oh no we have to explain it they feel like they have to explain everything and it's such shit and their choices are such shit yeah no I agree with you and again they but I always feel like they do things like that like with his whole Spock thing and they use things like

the trap or the harp causing is an excuse why they're doing it and I'm saying yeah but okay the original series had issues with it and it was also from the 60s so it's it's very much from its time and you look back at it now with a modern audience and things and go oh got this this riddled with mistakes and it took it walked on its own canon at times but TNG, DS9, Voyager did a much better job there was much more consistent you know they didn't think so they're using quite a flawed TV show to excuse the flaws in their TV show and I'm sort of like respect the original series but it's one of those times and I'm like don't you don't I always say that with canon you respect it to a point and then but if you you can't get really anal about it because you just you can't tell stories it makes it harder so I say respect it to a point there

were certain seminal moments that your certain characters you don't fuck with but other than that you can you can look things around a little bit and it's all right do you know the difference between a Helac and an HCI um spelling well they are spelled differently but no while both are ways to access your home's equity they're very different you see a Helac comes with monthly payments while a splittero HCI doesn't it's essentially a smarter way to access your home's value you get cash up front and then you can repurchase your option when you cash settle refinance or sell hooray are you gonna cheer through this whole explanation yes excellent okay a Helac has strict income and credit requirements boo hiss while an HCI from splittero is open to people with homes that are worth $200,000 and have a 500 minimum credit score and there's no income requirement haza did you say haza I'm trying to bring it back well good luck to you visit spl itiro.com

grill register trademarts of fca uslc and there was a bit to the original series i would ignore and i would pretend didn't happen sure but the fundamental parts i would keep but sparks character really shouldn't change particularly from the character we then saw in the movies because i think that may be concreted or a vulcan is maybe a little bit better than the original series or what i remember from the original series and i think in the animated series isn't he he's pretty much block down as it what we now consider to be a vulcan and also i will say that in the in the animated series we got yesterday year and you did Steve Vulcan kids picking on spark for being half human there okay so again they can be dicks yeah one of the best writers attract who wrote that see they get nice out forgotten that i was on then they just dragged that through to the jj prince movies so but i mean the vulcan's being kind of dicks is something that we've seen all the way through because

being purely logical is there's no other story about our you never get characters really that are pure evil or pure good because pure good you would be dicks you would you'd be almost as bad and because it'd be spineless and stuff but well that's that's why i hated that all of a sudden in that horror episode kirk is all about david his son and it's like no that's a great flaw to give to jim kirk that yes he is our favorite starship captain but it turns out he's a dead beat dad that he fucked up when i came to his kid he fucked up and chose career over family but now oh bottom of toy oh this is great and it's like no that's not jim kirk jim kirk screwed up and i don't buy that david he had no idea he was his father oh that idiot boy scout that he used to date and everything he didn't know he was his father i mean it's again it's oh he did know his name didn't he

you know but he wouldn't know who kirk you would know who kirk was anyway and people to trust the rest of the rest of the game is absolutely and especially if you're working with stars starfleet famous ad world absolutely but no it's uh yeah again i their choices suck there was a simpsons episode that i keep pointing to where stan lee is in the comic book shop yeah he's trying to shove a hulk into a batmobile and the one of the nerds goes ah you're wrecking it and he's like wrecking it or improving it and that's right they think they're improving with all these Easter eggs and it's it's crap here's another comment from b things there's not a scientific attitude in kursman's era trek agreed um it feels like these writers get swimish in life great biology and decided science was bad ever since they're writing bad bad yeah absolutely no we made that point as well that it's more than science fiction yeah they think they want to be right and buffy they want to do magic they want to be able to do all this stuff and then to the day i i'm just seeing him

it was answered now and he talks about well i think star truck is the genre in its own right now when i'm like well i could take your point to a bit that's fine so why don't you do it do do star trek then it's it has got a formula to it's i don't know i don't know if you have any friends that have gone to vegas for the big the big yeah um my friend Wayne who does my show with me weekly when we talk about star trek he's like yeah but the cast loves these gimmick episodes i'm like no i get it from an acting standpoint if you're locked into a series and you have to play the same character week after week it does get boring i get that so sure this is fun for them but it has to be fun for us and again i understand why this young audience that they think they've been taken a piss at star trick ever since they saw the first memes of Kirk kiss in a green girl or you know be me up scottie live long and prosper all that shit and then like oh no that's what

star trek is and it's like no it had no i'm sorry it was actually smart television and again people to award winning television and this stuff i'm sorry i don't think it's memorable i really don't i i was written down i got a handful of episodes opposed the world in discovery but i i can count them on one hand both shows the ironically the animated shows because yeah yeah low dex is great yeah i think and and i think even prodigy was quite and as well it was some of the most trick thing they've done the finale of the first season of prodigy's great but as i keep saying on my channel the conception of prodigy was idiotic say we'll do a cartoon for five six year olds but all we'll talk about is voyager this series that they definitely haven't watched i'm learning why i can say no daddy why doesn't Jane way like chicote so much and that's gone oh well you have to watch this episode of voyager and what you thought you said idiotic conception for the series

is such a stupid idea and you know it's like you you can watch the episode of prodigy this week's son but you've got some homework to do first or you won't understand it it's just now it's a moronic idea you're so it's a voyager absolutely sit out and let's wrap it yeah you've got to watch this first but prodigy was great i love seeing the enterprise e as well in the season finale brilliant um no i really enjoyed it and i and again while they left the haibirman's alone and the other writers alone i really feel like yeah that's the cartoon we don't care about the cartoon do what you want yeah but yeah the lower dex is great it's not really Star Trek it's not it shouldn't be canon but it is great yeah it was well and again they said from the start this is a parody by the way yeah nothing against tawny nursing as a person but i was watching you i talked to uh Jordan patent from cbr and i couldn't help but i chimed in jay what i did to you yeah because um i'm like she's a marie sue and Jordi got really pissed and it was like no no no no let me tell you the

definition of a marie sue it's when you put yourself in the story here's the background of a marie sue i'm like yes she did that and he's like oh two she i'm like well dude that was my point and thankfully you put up my comments and and he saw and he's like oh okay and i'm like yeah i'm stressed i'll i remember that accident oh thank yeah um he um he's very passionate that's good and and i'm to a point where i can't get a bloody word in edge race and i'm very talkative you may have noticed um so i'm there go i got more than one i go josh josh josh shut up for one second dude josh josh josh josh josh josh josh josh um but his attitude is all treck is great treck and i'm like no i'm sorry now it's not um even track movie treck culture never admitted the third season wasn't great no and this season is no better um it's it's yeah um it's worse actually i would i would honestly say

this is the worst season so far either akeva or henry lambsomires or the guy that roost last week week's episode is like, oh, we learned our lessons from the third season. Yeah. What is me? Yeah. And I just recorded a couple of videos for a came on here. And one of the points I actually make is they lied to us. I think it was Myers that did an interview. I think I said a key for goals in the video, but actually thinking about after I think it was Myers. And he said this episode is going to be way more Star Trek. It's going to think. And one of the things we're going to do is start answering some of the questions that we posed in the first series when because you haven't done it yet. And yeah, we're through our three episodes left. So I mean, less the season finale is done. I think the thing is, where's the season finale going this year? Because they have had at least a little bit of sort of a continuity through the season. And then we got something teased early on that then in the in the ass.

Well, I was the corn and then they remake best of both worlds. Or was it those bloody little things that burn your eyes out in the second one in the third one? Sorry, there was always something. There's nothing in this one. Where are they going with it? Well, I kind of think the through line very quietly, even in the muppet episode. It's not. But also what you're right about aren't, but also spark choosing the Vulcan side versus the human side. And yeah. And also we're getting Trilane this week. We're still going to get dug. Everybody's favorite. Oh, get God's sake. And I like that. I love Pat and I'll show all about story. So stupid. And again, they suck at comedy. They suck at comedy. It is not funny. The only funny episode they've done is the crossover episode. Good low decks. That was funny. The right committee for still one of my favorite moments in Star Trek is

great. And I found Tony Newsom less annoying as real life Mariner rather than because Mariner suffered from the same problem that Burnham did. Where and I'm glad that finally in the second season, it's like, well, she was the solution, everything. And she was like to know it all. And finally, the other three are taking a piss at her and like it, like, I'm not the boss. Yeah, whatever boss. And they told me to make fun of her. And also they made Boimler as the series progressed more confident. And it's like, no, we want to be Rutherford and Tendi and Boimler. We want to be on the ship. Yeah. I mean, you know, there was a, there's an American television show Sergeant Bilko. Yeah, I know. Yeah. Okay. Very good. I didn't want to assume. But he was always like finding dodges of getting out of army life. And I thought Mariner was like that. And that's okay. But again, she knew everything and she was the solution, everything. And I'm like, this is annoying as discovery. But again, they kind of as the show evolved. I think they made it better. But they again, they leaned into the comedy of it, though, as well.

Didn't they about how she was? She was obviously at the perfect staffly cadet, but she didn't really want to be. And they leaned into that. And I remember when she's messing around and she gets like, look, when I got a bat with and she and so nearly lobbing Boimler's leg off. I just laughed my ass off of that. I thought it was so funny. It's a love letter to T and G. It's not it's not canon. But it's it's it's it but it's genius. And it is by far my favorite thing of Star Trek. I mean of new track. Picard season three. It was the only time under Star Trek live action that I've got up and like watch the episode straight where it's the first thing I did each morning, watch the episode. But actually again, I've said this a million times, you watch it again. It's not very good. It's just the. Yeah, it's the it's the nostalgia of it and the enterprise and the thing and I'm like so excited. And but you actually watch it's not very good.

And it's got some massive problems in it. Yeah, there are problems in it. I hear you watch it a second or third time and bit more critically. And he like this isn't very good. Um, they should have they should have stuck with the changelings and not brought the board again. And it's like, man, you guys got a point mission that is just ridiculous. Um, channel 1019. They're trying to catch kids attention on the one hand and the fan, the fans who remember Voyager with the other obviously talking about the prodigy. Be thinks this awareness my favorite from lower decks, but she is effectively the Vulcan equivalent of Mariner. I think Collin was a little bit more interesting that I love that episode where you saw all the other lower deck, like the Vulcan lower decks and the end. Yeah, I thought that was really funny. You know, yeah, I mean, like, well, again, um, and I'm blacking on the showrunners name from lower decks. The guy, my quick, my yes, he, uh, I knew a name.

It's fall in Jeep country and during the drive into fall sales event, get a great deal on four by fours that refuse to be contained like Jeep Wrangler, confidence built into every drive with the most awarded SUV ever, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and freedom that can't be denied with the open air freedom and Jeep gladiator. After 85 years, it's no surprise that Jeep became America's SUV brand. Get a great deal during the Jeep drive into fall sales event. Jeep is one more awards over its lifetime than any other SUV brand, even the Jeep Grille register trademarks of FCA US LLC. No, he's he clearly he gets it. And I know he had a long Twitter parody thing going and that's one of the Mike McVan, that's that's you know, they yeah, that's what they that's why I think he was chosen to run lower decks. Let me ask you are with our with our remaining minutes Stargate. I am a fan as well. I was so bombed when it didn't get green lit. Do you have any inside like are they are they still trying to find the formula they're looking for? Yeah, they're just going to be looking for new writers that would take a new pitches.

I think the next few months, they nothing's going to happen about quickly. And I say I dropped sort of video tonight or yes a couple of days ago. I can't remember what it was. And it this all thing with the intimate, you know, the multi dimension thing that they were going to do. I I'm starting to realize more and more than executives might have made the right decision. If I'm honest, was there like an alternate universe thing that they were going to be an alternate universe? Um, so I'm not a massive fan of that idea. But I do make the points in the video. Even ideas that sound on paper terrible. If they're doing right, can be still awesome. And I make the example of like gardens, the galaxy. I thought that was the stupidest idea. And it was grateful. I loved it. So I'm friends with a lot of Marvel people. And I'm like, we're going to do Guardians of the Galaxy. And I'm like, why? I'm like, Sarah, but you didn't get it at all. And yeah, to their credit, my God, rocket and grute our household names and kids have that all.

It shouldn't have fit what Marvel was doing at the time. But then actually we realized where it was going perfect. But at the time, I thought that's stupid. And I was saying this, this, this alternate universe thing, it's, I don't like the idea, but it might have been brilliant. So I can't, I'm not going to say that. But and we were going to get Michael Shanks back. We were going to get a load of other season regulars back. But I would argue. And this is only my opinion, but I think the executives might have looked at that and go, you're not delivering what we told you to do. Because we told you to do like a hybrid thing that was supposed to be, the fans could recognize, but new fans could step into. And I'm like, if you're doing an alternate universe, by definition, you only know it's alternate if you know the actual universe. So I'm thinking about these new executives come in. I think they came over from Netflix and they're looking at it. And I think they probably were fresh eyes when that's not what you were told. That's not what we asked for. And I'm something more and more that's what's going on.

But deadline is reported and speak people I speak to. They've sort of confirmed as well. They're looking for new writers. I've spoke to somebody. This is a preview because I spoke to them today. So you'll get an information before I get it. I even put it on the channel. Yeah, John, you just taught me into this. You tease. The guy I've spoke to today says he thinks a hard reboot is almost definite. There he's worked in the industry about 30 years. He does work for Amazon MGM. He's more on a business side of things. He says like he's seen these sort of things come and go over 30 years. And he's sort of saying, this smells like hard reboot to me. That he's almost certain they will. And he told me the business reasons why it makes more sense. Not just the creative reasons. And so I, I wouldn't bet against a hard reboot at this point. What about Dr. Who? Tell me about your Fox on Dr. Who? Because in a lot of ways, we're in the same boat right now. Yeah. The BBC can't afford to make it.

And I think it's as simple as that. So they need a productive partner. They need a production partner to do it. They need somebody internationally to do it. It looks like it's going to be Amazon. I've been talking about it for two years. That it seemed to be initially used through bad wolf because they're owned by Sony. Sony, I've got this good relationship. I don't know what happened with bad wolf. I don't know. But that those two seasons of Disney really. Yeah. Yeah. And again, I was rooting for shooting. Gawa, I liked him in the sex education. And I think he's a great actor. But again, I think we're still delivered. And isn't it weird? I again, I was around for the John Nathan Turner era of Star Trek. I was around for the era of Doctor Who. And I really appreciated the good stuff. I kind of went away during Colin Baker and McCoy. And I know he kind of. Well, and no, and I know I've since revisited McCoy. And I get it and I enjoy those now more. I think Mel really annoyed me. Although Mel was like one of the few good things in the shooting at what era.

They actually gave her some fun things to do. But I, I, I, yeah, I, um, I don't know how long things are. I'm friends with Paul Cornell. Okay. And he, you know, he's like, yeah, relax. Everything's going to be fine. But I saw Gatis do a recent interview on Gatis. And he's like, no, it really means to rest for a while. Let it. Yeah, I saw that. Yeah, I saw that. And I love his new show, Bookish. Oh, yeah, no, Bookish is a show. It's very good. Yeah, he's great. I'm fine. I love him as my craft. You know, he's excellent. Yeah, Doctor Who will come back. And it looks like Amazon. I got to be the one. So it'll become the international partner. And they just need another production partner. And I think, yeah, probably the BBC after they, they trusted Bart Warford Doctor Who and it went very, very badly. So they hired ways. Um, Russell T Davies basically made his own personal agenda driven project. And it was incredibly bad time, badly timed.

Um, it was just really bad decision. Um, is that, is that happening with the BBC in general that they really are trying to appeal to the left as far as that goes? I don't like using the word walk either, but it does. I am heard that there really was this kind of effort. And, and I think with the truly, the intentions of, Hey, it's a different world. Let's acknowledge that. And I think that's okay. But like you said, it really was that first and foremost. And even like when Isaac Newton shows up and he's played by a black gentleman. And again, I'm not a racist at all, but I'm sure. It's stupid. But it was. It was like, it's, it's fine if it's a fictional character. This is a real guy. And it's like, what are you doing? I don't know. The BBC have been guilty of that with a few television shows. They are more conservative. So they, yeah, they are more liberal. Um, and, and we didn't have a Me Too movement. Um, and I, I've always argued that Hollywood massively overreacted to the Me Too movement.

Instead of going, Oh, yeah, we need to write our ways. They went, we need to go as far as the other way possible. Um, and I think that's, and now we've seen a reaction to that with maggot and things. We've seen a reaction to that. Um, the, and two parts way the other way again. We've gone from here to here to over here. Um, but I don't like the, why can't things just be down the middle and, you know, even hunted. But the BBC is, I keep going and avoid it. You're that way. And I'm like, you're a strong women on Voyager, but not at the expense of the men. No, exactly. Are you watching lanterns at all? And I don't know. I haven't watched the third episode yet. I'm on the second episode. Yeah. I've watched the second episode. Yeah, but I've got a strong female character to do. Excellent. Okay. Yeah. I'm not saying it works. Oh, watch it. It's about, yeah, dropped yesterday. Didn't it? I think it's a drop in a Tuesday. Yeah. Sundays. And Sundays. Oh, I was away this weekend. So I haven't caught it. I'm watching until yet. Um, but, um, listen, a door court was, that's John. Thanks for getting Jamie on. Uh, you guys talking to each other is like, uh, the Big Man Convection.

T and G would riker and worth, uh, uh, most conversations when they, uh, mainly discuss the family. So start. Thank you. She would end on something positive. Uh, if we could think of something, yeah. Uh, I like Hanson Mount. He's got to go with me a couple of times. But again, they promised that the, like, we were so excited to get. Wow. We're going to get the Captain Pike adventures. Yeah. And I know we had a kid. So that's a couple of episodes. I'm also hearing and I don't know if you've heard this from your guy. I've also heard that he could be kind of difficult. And that's one of the reasons why we got a lot more Kirk was, to kind of remind him and go, uh, Hey, you better straighten up and, uh, do what we're saying or, uh, we could just go to Kirk and, and it's just called, it's not called the Star Trek Pike. It is called Strange New World. He is the main, he is the main character. The only reason we got so much Kirk is because Paul Wesley was available. And they generally thought he was the perfect Kirk. So well, we'll do it now.

And the guy I was speaking to that's a, he's quite high up. Exactly. He said, he's one of the biggest mistakes he ever made. They should never have done that. And I, I agree with him. It should have been the big thing in the fifth season. Boom. Kirk. I'm sort of think, um, but they fuck that up. Um, get up. Yeah. And also, I think there's only room for one alpha male on all these shows. Yeah. And it's like, well, pikes our alpha male. Yeah. So, but he's not one of the other. Just like, Spock, he's not the Kirk. We know yet. We, he's on a journey. Bullshit. Like you say, when he shows up, but it's like, hey, that might be easier. Yeah. It's any excuse, isn't it? The last one was like, well, I was at the same convention as you. What is this like? She talking about you. Where's the Farragut? Why do you want to show it together? Yeah, shows the fairy. Um, but, um, the thing with Anson and my is, I love the guy. He's really passionate. He's a very good actor. He's a very likeable actor. He did get into my DMs once they've got with me. Um, and yeah.

Um, but then it turned out he didn't, he said, that's true. It's not, it's not true. And I keep the gold. I'm never allowed to happen. And I said, well, it's a very unique situation. Anson, all due respect. And then it turned out he didn't actually know what I was saying was true. He didn't want it to be true. Um, which is, but I get that. Um, and I have no problem because he's passionate. He genuinely loves Star Trek. He genuinely loves what he's doing. It's like Ricardo defending Academy. And again, I get it. But, but yeah, again, they can't help themselves. They took that great speech, uh, from, uh, the drumhead that Picard says when he's on, when he's on the stand and they repeat it with Picardo in that episode. We're host. We're going to show you how to do everything. Yeah, let's, let's not show them how to be competent, starfully, uh, officers and work more on the ship. No, no, no, no, let's show them how to debate because that's really important. Uh, I mean, I guess diplomacy is important, but they scrub the floor.

I think because there was like a line in there that they felt wasn't left enough. And it, and it didn't make grammatical sense. And it almost looks like if you, I, I, I kind of, is a pruder film that like the Kennedy, where I went back and watch, it almost seems like they overdubbed the, him saying the lines again. I think he really did say the line. And I think in post they decided that the line was too controversial. And they do that quite a lot, particularly since the new paramount regime have come in there, there's a lot more scrutiny. Um, and I think before that, Kurtz was allowed to do whatever he wanted. And it was actually heavily contracted that he had a lot of creative freedom. But, um, I think, well, from what I was told is the new bosses came in. They sort of went, if you want a new contract, you need to tow the party line a bit more. And that started almost immediately with rewrites on Academy and editing the strange and world season three.

And there would have been press shots season four as well. Um, so that was almost immediate. So that might even be, that might even explain why that happened. Um, there were things in Academy that were rewritten. I don't know for a fact. I also think the fact that they've gone so gimmick and heavy might be another reason why the new bosses saw what they were going to do for season four and are like, you guys don't get it. Uh, and you've had 10 years to get it. Yeah. Time to go. Goodbye. Well, again, talking to the guy again, this is something else I've recorded this morning. Um, but, um, the guy that I was speaking to, he is in a position to know any sort of said, this would never have been allowed under this regime ever. These remakes and this much things said they were never of, they were never have committed it. Not in a million years. Um, I think the new, the new fans are, oh, no, yeah, our tricks are going to become marga. Oh, it's not. No, of course not. Well, I talk about that in the video as well.

Did he reassure me that's not going to happen? Because that was one of the things I asked him. I was asked basically after these conversation, we're wondering just about politics, what you just were politics. So I emailed him, can you please, would you mind? It's like really generally so like, um, but he was actually really honest and he had an opinion that it's not the biggest problem with Star Trek by a mile. It's the writing and the thing and that there's way bigger. Um, but he says, but there are issues with the politics of Star Trek. And I'll talk about it in the video because it's a bit complicated. Um, he, he basically said that the power amount do not want to do that. Dave Ellison might be a bit more left wing, um, right wing. Sorry. Um, but not he's not like serious about it. His friendship with Trump is more about sort of getting a bit of, um, yeah, a bit of freedom. Um, but he says, but he's nothing, but he is just wants to do good stories. And he says, look, if you think it's going to be a problem, look at the Skydance movies.

Um, so if you look at Skydance and that's what you want to, you know, that's what you should worry about. It's not going to become Magger. It's not going to become massively right or left wing either way. He may demand it's a bit more central. Um, yeah. And this, which is fine, but he says they are going to make shows for different people. And they'll make the show for Star Trek audience, not Democrats or Republicans. They'll make it for Star Trek fans. And I'm like, perfect. That's all we want to hear. That's what we want to hear. Absolutely. Jay, it's been great talking to you. I hope you'll come back. Yeah. I would love for Joshua to come on and then give us a counter argument.

And we don't have to hang up on them and maybe we can find another pro new trek person. Yeah. And you come on to Takian Pulse will do the same. Jay would be my pleasure. Truly. I love what you do. Cool. Everyone of the word balloon audience, you're not doing yourself any favors, not watching the Takian Pulse. Thank you very much.
