3:08down in Dallas. It's a mid-year convention that President Donald Trump called to bring members of the Republican Party together to get organized for the coming fall election for the GOP. How's Dallas this time of year? I it's hot here so we think it was hot in West Virginia but it's really it's really hot it's 100 degrees every day. Been around politics a number of years really of not familiar with the idea of a midterm political convention. I think it's probably one of the first and the major parties history. What's happening there? What are you all doing? Yeah, it is the first one for the Republican party and I think back in the 80s maybe the Democrats did it for a couple of times but it's all just trying to bring focus bringing energy to the midterm elections which coming up in about like it's 54 days and so we have people here from all around country every part of the country there's a lot of excitement last night but again it's all getting ready getting our message out so that when election day comes we'll be ready to win. Now you're the highest elected state official down there the governor chose to skip this event. Yeah

4:09that's correct that's correct. Yeah very very pleased blessed to be here. It's it's like say we have a fantastic first night. I will say you know Josh Holstein's here he's our chairman of the Republican party also delegate from Ben County in Tristan Levit this year as well who's delegate from Kennell County. In these conventions I've been to some of the general election conventions the preferred states get to set up front so where is West Virginia getting this at? Okay we're right up front but we're behind Kentucky but our coach chairman is from Kentucky so we're right behind them so we're just absolutely premium seedings so you almost felt like you were sitting on the stage last night it's that close the arena is in a basketball arena so it's not one of those big big mammoth you know football stadium arena so it's very very cozy very tight and a lot of a lot of excitement in the room. Now the president spoke last night what was his message? It's just of course it's amazing how he'll see a stand about how long he went and of course nobody can give us speech by President Trump but it's all about talking about the successes of the first two years you know mostly related to closing the border reducing

5:12reducing crime be just an amazing amount of economic activity that's happened in our country. I jobs movement in in in in an entire country so just a lot of the positives that that they're working on and they also you know so elections are always about the future as well just talking about things that they want to do and accomplish over the next couple of years. And one of the things that I think he talked about last night was a $5,000 dividend should the Republicans win reelection did he get through the details of that? Now he didn't there's an interesting concept so last night was the first time that that I'd heard about it and so we're not a lot of details flushed out about how that would work but I'm sure they'll put some more collar on today more more details today. And that's going to go along with your reduction the gas tax people are hurting during this period of affordability and in other leadership in West Virginia has agreed with you on it again I guess that's about putting more money into people's pockets and he wants it spent in America. Yeah that's correct I mean it's really just a reflection that the cost of living

6:14over these past five or six years have just absolutely crushed strictly working people are definitely working people in West Virginia so this is the way to give them it's the easiest way to get them released relief from all the different things that have really impacted families and impacted households so again I think I like the idea it is similar to spending the gas tax for a period of time but we'll get to see the details about how it worked but you know that's one thing about President Trump he's always thinking he's always always coming up with new ideas and new ways to approach things. Who are some of the other people you all heard from last night? So a lot of comments that we heard from the did a really good job I thought Tim Scott the Senator from South Carolina probably gave the the second best speech of the night I thought he was absolutely phenomenal but again a lot of different Senate candidates house candidates and then today we've got big lineup with the president again vice president secretary Bassett so in in the Secretary Kennedy I think we're all on today so it's gonna be an exciting exciting day. And then Democrat Senator Federman from Pennsylvania I saw somewhere where he came

Yeah yeah that just that just goes to the non-traditional way that President Trump thinks and puts things together but you know if a Senator Federman has developed a really close relationship working relationship with Senator McCormick and so he wanted to make it clear to all Pennsylvania's that he's for Senator McCormick and wants him to get reelected. That's probably one of the few that can come across party aisles. It's really yeah for this time you know that's happened before 15 years ago Senator mentioned did that for for Senator McCalsky. They press the whole game and I'm a very big defensive pass first point guard and I also know that Marina had a lot of assist and that really drove me interest into the team. So I said you were a Cincinnati area high school basketball player. What was your career there like? Again a pass first point guard. You know I started and played all four years freshman through my senior year was one of the leaders on the team and just really loved the game. So you get your work your way to Taylor University. What conference is that? That is the crossroads league. I guess what have you learned so far in your journey through college basketball? What stands out? It's very fast. You know you have the shot clock so it speeds up the game a lot being a point guard and being able to manage a team. I was also a captain as a sophomore there so being young and being a leader of the team. It's a lot of pressure but it's a lot of fun and it's definitely very physical. How important is communication in your job? Oh it's very important you have to be vocal you have to also lead by example but also being able to be personable with people on the

15:39team and earn their trust in their respect. As we're here with Emma Folle who's your favorite basketball player? Hmm that one's hard. I really like stuff curry. You know the three point point guard. Are you can you pull from distance? I can sometimes depends. What have you guys been able to get out there for some open runs yet have you seen the players? Yeah I came to an open gym on my visit which was really fun. This was back in April which is actually when I committed so I was able to play with the girls and see how fast they play. Man I was out of breath but you know we're getting back into shape right now with preseason conditioning so it's been good. This is an important mentor for you and basketball. Somebody that the major love again. No I've had a lot of coaches growing up. My high school coach pushed me really hard. Dan Wallace at LaCode East. He was definitely very hard to meet from freshman through senior year and pushed me to the play I am as we're here with Emma Folle. What's an individual goal for you? What's a team goal this season? Obviously team wise I want to win the conference. I want to get a sixth ring for

More than 10 assists in the game I've never been able to do before so something like that really fun. Processors have leverage and can control the pace of business, which means they're moving needed numbers without having to really bid up. Demand continues to be a focal point for the industry. And while there have been some bright spots when it comes to both global and domestic demand, there are still lingering concerns around long-term strength. A estimated hog slaughter was 493,000 head. 29:30Directors Association. An Ohio man is behind bars after a fight this morning in Morgan Town. Monning Gilea County deputies say Cameron Hall pulled the gun and hit the victim in the face at a short term rental on Chestnut Ridge Road. Deputies say the weapon went off during the fight and grazed the victim in the shoulder. Hall was charged with wanton endangerment and malicious assault. The victim is hospitalized. Marion County deputies say juvenile faces charges for leading them on a pursuit early this morning and investigation is ongoing from the Metro News Echo desk. I'm Jack Carlson. And last night, President Trump addressed the body, the goal is to try and get the base fired up for the coming general election. And one of the items that he promised the American public if he, if the Republicans can maintain control of the Senate and the House of delegates or the House of Representatives

33:43is a $5,000 dividend payment for people in the country to spend in the United States, not outside the United States. Wanted to check with Mike Pushkin, who is chair of the West Virginia Democratic Party to get his take on this promise from the president. And in the first half hour, we talked with state treasury Larry Pack to get the Republican view. Mike, what's the Democratic view on this dividend? Well, I think at first blush, I mean, it appears like to be a, you know, a bribe or a possible attempted vote buying. But, you know, if you really think about it, it's just another empty promise from this president. I mean, many Americans are still wondering what happened to their doge dividend, you know, or their, their tariff rebate. You know, other promises that this president has made and just never followed through. So when you look at what they're saying today, you question whether this $5,000 payment, even if the Republicans maintain control of both the House and the Senate will ever materialize to the general public? First of all, if you look at all of the

34:44special elections and the primary numbers and all the polling that we've seen over the past year, it's very unlikely they're going to hold on to the House of Representatives and we feel that we have a very good shot at the U.S. Senate as well. So it's just empty rhetoric. Like I said, he's made these promises before with the doge dividend, with the tariff rebate, most American and all Americans are still waiting on those checks that are just never going to come. I believe there's like an over a trillion dollar price tag on this false promise. I tell you what, if the president really wants to help working class Americans, he could actually do something to address inflation. He said he was going to do that on day one. Instead, he's more concerned about building ballrooms and then tearing down the Rose Guard. If you want to do something to help average Americans, he could actually come up with a real healthcare plan and not keep telling us to wait another two weeks for his brilliant healthcare plan. Or he could end our involvement in Iran or that nobody asked for. It was unnecessary to cause for gas prices to go up. Does it make sense, though, for a

35:45political party to come together like in Dallas to have these discussions in advance of the midterm election? Or do you think this is a last-ditch effort on part of the Republican Party to try and salvage some enthusiasm in the midterm? An all honesty, I think, from my understanding, the Trump administration has charged a lot of people to come to this event. To me, it's just another way for him to make money off of the office city holds. He has seemed to be more concerned about that than actually doing the job of president. So, no, it's not necessary to have a midterm convention. I don't know what they're accomplishing by it. I'd say most Americans were watching football last night. And one of the things that was kind of interesting is, yesterday was the opening night and the keynote speaker was President Trump. Yet West Virginia Governor Patrick Morsey did not attend the event. Does that surprise you? No, I'm not sure where Patrick, where Governor Morsey is. If he is a ten, if he's in Dallas, not, I know there is a delegation

36:48down there from West Virginia in Dallas. I think that the people of West Virginia would be better served if their elected representatives were at home in the district actually doing something to address the needs of average West Virginians instead of going to the Trump pollusa down in Dallas. So, the Republicans are using this to try and build enthusiasm. What are the Democrats doing to build enthusiasm in West Virginia? We're organizing. It is what we're doing. We have an excellent slate of candidates up and down the ballot. This year when folks go to the polls for early voting and election day, they're going to have real choices on that ballot. And they're going to have a slate of candidates on our side that are running because they're true public servants and they want to help improve the lives of their friends and neighbors here in West Virginia. So, we feel very, very good about our chances going into this fall. And we got the folks in place on the ballot to make some real gains this year. We've been talking with state

Back for Ryo Grand is sophomore and returning River State's new Commer of the Year Alli Allison. When did you get comfortable with college basketball? It definitely took me a while. I got to learn under one of the best point guards I know, Marina Garcia. I know Coach Bias mentioned her earlier. I mean she is as great as everybody says, you know, she could see everything. She had the floor IQ. She had the leadership. She did nothing but push me as hard as I could and I credit a lot of everything that I accomplished my freshman year to her. What was it like to play for Dave Smiley? I know you just got him for the one year but what was that experience? It was definitely an experience. He's very intense but

39:54he's definitely a teddy bear too. He's going to push you as hard as he can but he always wanted the best for us. It was definitely fun. I'm excited to see how it is with Coach Bias. Of course he coached me in AAU my junior year so it was a similar kind of fast pace but it's definitely a lot faster now. When did Coach Bias start bringing up Rio Grande? Well he offered me a scholarship midway through the summer and I was kind of like I'm not sure, you know, I've never heard of Rio Grande but you know I took the visit and I committed before I made it home that day. I just I knew I knew where my place was and everyone was so welcoming and so kind and I could just tell this is where I would fit in the best. So you won? Was it one or two state titles at Gilmer County High School? I won one my senior year. It was it was very awesome. That's one of the best moments of my life. I won it. I got to win it alongside one of our new freshmen, Eva Dobbins. She's been killing it too. It's been awesome to have her here. It was definitely the highlight of my high school career and then

41:00to come win a college conference championship. That was just amazing too. Yeah both amazing but when you take the trophy back to Glentville, what is it? Is it parade? Is it confetti? I mean is it fire trucks? I just and I know it's a big sports town. It was I think we were the last game of the night. Okay I got you and I had just found out that I had the flu. So I was kind of all over the place but we came back. We had a whole celebration at the Sumoore Sports Complex and we were out till one in the morning. Everyone in the community just having a great time. It was really fun. What's a personal goal for you this year and what's a team goal? Absolutely. I mean I would love to retain an all-conference spot. I did not expect to win newcomer the year last year. I just was very focused on us winning a five-peat and then same thing. I obviously want to win a six-peat. I want to make it to Iowa. I want to go as far as we can. Definitely farther when we made it last year but I mean I don't see why not.
