I am Dave Miller and thank you so much for joining us for the Final Cup this morning here on WMOV. I am very happy to be here today. Man. My commute into work both attempts at it today. The first go around zero stars would not recommend as the kids would say.

1:14But man, that water was very high today in Evans earlier this morning and a lot of flooding throughout the area and threats for floods still remain today. Let's go ahead and right out of the gate, get a look at our forecast and see what all is happening across the bend area this morning. Do have a flash flood warning that is in effect right now for a good portion of the area. Take a look at the specifics of what the National Weather Service has to say. Flash flood warning for Central Gallia County, Southern Megs County, West Central Jackson County and Northern Mason County in West Virginia. Details on the map pretty much the Southwestern corner of Megs most of Northern Gallia County, most of Northern Mason County and around the Mount Alto area of Jackson County under that flood warning that will be in effect until 11 a.m. this morning.

2:26Emergency management reported multiple water rescues in Jackson County due to a thunderstorm that produced heavy rains across the moor into area. Four to seven inches of rain have already fallen flooding will impact and continue to impact with light rainfall continuing to be possible today. Some points of this include point pleasant Galapalice, Rio Grande, New Haven Middleport, Anderson Leon, Chesher, Adamsville, Lacon, Galapalice, Ferry, Kiger, Lee Tart, Southside, Mount Alto, Gage and Center Point. So folks be careful out there turn around, don't drown. And of course, be careful of debris that may still be out on the roadway from all of the rain and the flooding earlier today. As we take a look at our forecast, do still have the possibility of some showers and some thunderstorms coming up later on today.

3:28High is going to top out around 79 degrees tonight showers thunderstorms possibility of some more heavy rain up to half inch of rain is possible. Our overnight load tonight dipping down to 66 tomorrow. We are cloudy through mid morning. We'll see some clearing later on in the day. Do have clouds returning for the evening and a chance of some overnight showers are high near 80 or low around 67 tomorrow or Saturday showers likely possible thunderstorm around noon. Some more showers and thunderstorms for the evening definitely going to see some heavy showers at times could be looking at half to three quarters inch of rainfall on Saturday. High near 82 the low around 68 Sunday. We are partly sunny to part the cloudy high of 84 low around 65 Monday, mostly sunny to mostly clear the low around 66 Tuesday sunny partly cloudy for the evening with some showers.

4:31High of 88 low around 68 and then Wednesday partly sunny with a 40% chance of showers the high near 84 degrees. So there's your forecast for the upcoming week here in the bend area. Give me just a moment folks. Sorry, I had to get a sip of water there and it turned out to be much longer. But again, today situation where we have seen some significant rainfall and a lot of flooding taking a look over at WV 511.org. Still see lots of reports of high water west Virginia Route 87 in the area of Evans. That's what I was talking about earlier this morning with Stephen reports of some power lines on trees on Ravenswood Pike just outside of Ripley.

5:36A little further down 87 in Mason County at Leon Baden Road. What's going on here? Reports of a mudslide there the southbound lane and northbound lane closed there on 87 in the area of Leon Baden Road. This was one was this reported 852 so within the last 20 minutes this has happened over in the lead tart area reports of high water on sand hill road coming into point pleasant on route 2 reports of high water 3700 block of Ripley road. That was earlier this morning just north of point pleasant high water high water on Jericho Road in the area of Allison Road that also from earlier this morning. A little further south on 77 in Jackson County or 21 some reports of high water between fair plain and Kenna tree in the roadway as well there closer to Kenna so be careful of that coming up if you are still traveling out on the road.

6:52Taking a look at Ohio nothing really to report in Meg's County do see quite a few spots of red though in Galiah County state route 160 state route 325 both shut down because of high water right now in Galiah County. We've got some flooding at 325 there again pretty much up towards the county line with Meg's County there we've got another road here Galiah County state route 160 that's pretty much close to the county line there as well for what is that Vinton County. Yes Vinton County there so again just be careful of those areas there make sure you know before you go WV51.org or OGO.com check those road conditions before you hit the road this morning and definitely if the water is high weighted out it's worth it to wait folks.

8:04All right still have a program to do here this morning we'll check on the weather a little bit later on but today on the program I want to revisit Joe Stevens conversation from yesterday's Valley today with Kelly adcock of Main Street Ripley about some upcoming events got some information about the Jackson County community foundations upcoming benefit dinner that's coming up next month and your chance to win some tickets that are starting to be on the road. Let's go ahead and take a listen to what Kelly had to say yesterday on the Valley today now on the final cup on WMOV. A lot of things happening in and around the Ripley area, joining us to talk about some of the things going on is Kelly Adcock with the Main Street Ripley folks.

12:37I tell you what, Kelly, every time I turn around there's something else happening and it's fun to talk about. First off, tell me about this hero's parade. Oh, so you know how patriotic and proud of our community we are here in Ripley and Duccan County. And so every year in the anniversary of 9-11 we have a hero's celebration. This year the hero's parade is on Saturday, September the 12th. The parade starts at 6 with a cookout in barbecue and celebration of our first responders to follow. The parade will start at the Dutch Miller car lot in Ripley and it will end at the Starcher Mansion which is where the cookout is. And we are going to be celebrating our first responders, our police, our EMS, our firefighters which in Jackson County are all well in here. So we want to make sure that those people know how much we appreciate their contribution to the community and all the good things they do and how much they take care of us.

13:40And so for the first day we are going to take care of them. You know, it's a thankless job that they do and they do appreciate when a city like Ripley steps up and just sends them a thank you card with this type of event. And they really do. Our local guys take really good care of us. They are active with our youth in the school and the youth sports. They take care of our elderly in the community. They do all kinds of things that we don't really realize. You know, people think police officer and they think you're writing a ticket or whatever but our guys are fixing your tire on the side of the road and making sure your kids get home from school safe. And our first responders in this county as everywhere are just they have big hearts and big skills and we really want to show them when you appreciate them. Hey, tell me about this. Yeah, when is it again? September the 12th at 6 o'clock. Tell me about the cruise in. That is September the 18th.

14:40And it is at there's a cruise in car show registration is free. First 25 cars registered will get a free district barbecue dinner. Cruising and cooked out on the courthouse lawn from 4 to 6 cars can start lining up at 3 30. And it is a fundraiser for the Alpine refund. And so bring out your any and your classic car baby, your mower cycle, your pool wheel, anything you want to show off, all anything is open. We're going to give away a fan favorite trophy and how you're going to win that as you can get all your buddies to come in and vote your baby to fan favorite with their dollars. So they're going to be able to buy tickets to vote for their favorite vehicle. And the vehicle owner that has the most votes is to take home the trophy and all the money is going to go help us fix the roof of the Alpine. And let's talk about the moth man. I mean up at point pleasant, I think people are already starting to stay in there and everything getting ready for the festival that's coming up.

15:47But Ripley is going to be part of it. And I guess the moth man movies now been moved outside. I think we're going to have men and black. We're going to because of the repairs and things on going at the Alpine, we may be looking at having that outside on the courthouse lawn or some plate similar. But we do have a movie in celebration. And we want to invite everybody to come out and kick off the moth man weekend early. We're going to support our neighbors and point pleasant, but also enjoy some quality Ripley time as well. So you can come watch the car show and then stick around for the movie. That movie came out and I think summer of like 97. And I mean, and it's it just keeps on keeping on kind of thing. And then black. Exactly. Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith, I will remember forever. We got about 30 seconds left. And I know we've got the another event coming up if you can kind of preview it a little bit to taste the Ripley.

16:48We do. We want to save the date for October the 18th. Taste of Ripley at leave this year is going to be from three to seven. And we are really looking forward to showing off all our amazing food vendors in Jackson County. Three is going to be at 14. I did that to this church on the 18th. So put that date on your calendar. So we're back to square one. Long says the county is talking with the federal government about the future. The building meanwhile students began classes this week at WVU's Jackson's Mill for the school year. A rainy morning in the mountains. Over the weekend, Ohio Democratic Governor candidate Amy Akten was attacked while at a county fair. Governor Mike DeWine of Ohio met with the media yesterday on the situation and here are excerpts from that talk.

33:50Can feel fair all the Amy Akten is. Reprehensible campaigns candidates running for office have the right to go out and talk to people. So one of the things we we cherish is one of the things it's very very important. So anything that interferes with that is is is bad and we had people who were knocked down in this incident. So it's not not a good situation. You know, as you know, we ordered assistance protection for candidates. That is that is in effect and it certainly does involve the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Beyond that, I'm going to stay with what I usually say about security. And that is we're not going to talk about security. Is there a concern in balancing because you're talking about obviously you have to keep some of those security details private. But then on the flip side, there are Republican influencers and people online. Then jumping to conspiracy theories because they can't see X, Y and Z what happened. They're claiming that the campaign over blue what happened.

34:54I mean, is there a concern in balancing? Well, there's a bunch of garbage. No one over blew it. The facts are facts. These are these are not good situations. And they're anti democratic. Anti in the sense of our democracy and our state and our whole political process. It depends on people's ability not just to be on TV. It depends on people's ability actually interact with people. Well if it has an official but West Virginia has it sheds. I think we can stick this one on the back burner for now.

37:04Ascend West Virginia expanding with 2.4 million rural health care grant aimed at attracting and retaining workers governor Morse announcing the latest grant from the state's rural health care transformative program on Wednesday. Story by Jack Carlson. The Ascend West Virginia program is expanding to attract health care professionals to the mountain state. And the governor announcing a 2.4 million dollar grant to the program to support three programs. Ascend WV health care first Ascend Health care and a new program that will serve beyond the 23 county Ascend West Virginia and first Ascend Footprint. The grants is from the state's rural health care transformation program set to distribute nearly $2 million in grants to West 200 million in grants in West Virginia to support health care in underserved communities.

38:04During a news conference Wednesday at Valley Park in Hurrican. Morsey touted the strong economic investments under his administration but noted that health care is an important need to address when new employers come calling. The governor quote, when you're bringing all these new job opportunities into the state, the key thing is we have to fill them with really good people. That means growing the hometown crowd up keeping people here in West Virginia but it also means increasing net migration to try to convince other people to move to the great state of West Virginia. Morsey was joined at the announcement in Putnam County by WVU president Michael Benson, Marshall first lady Elise Smith and her just by Elise Smith. She of course along with her husband Marshall University president Brad Smith financed Ascend West Virginia when it was developed several years ago.

39:11And there's much more on this including quotes from Benson and Smith as well about this and where the money is going to. Another big story this morning is Operation Cold Country nets 59 arrest of non-compliant sex offenders and violent felony offenders. This story by Jack Carlson as well over at WVMETRONUES.com. US Attorney for Southern West Virginia more capito joined federal state and local law authorities when stay at the Robert C. Bird US courthouse in Charleston to announce the results of Operation Cold Country a multi week collaborative effort among many different agencies.

40:23The US Marshall Service for Southern West Virginia State Police the federal Bureau of investigation Homeland Security Investigations and 10 local police departments and seven county sheriff's offices teamed up for the operation. The main focus was the state police troop five area that includes Boone Cabal Lincoln Logan Mingo and Wayne counties. And while the operation mainly focused on sex offenders 23 arrests were made for violent felony offenses 16 offenders were wanted for failing to properly update their registration and 10 were charged with new sex offenses. Also a missing child from a family abduction in Wood County was also found and arrest was made in that. Capito commended the work by numerous agencies involved and called deputy US Marshall for Southern West Virginia Mark Wagamon the quote quarterback of the operation sports analogy quote from Capito all of those people coming together and getting in the same model had to go run the same play that takes leadership that takes work and organization.

41:40Now the newly minted you newly minted US Marshall for Southern West Virginia Jack Chambers also credited the teamwork of operation call country as former state police superintendent chambers was confirmed as the US Marshall before the Senate's recess in August. Chambers replacing Michael Bayless who went on to become cabinet secretary for Homeland Security in Governor Morris's administration. And the president of the United States hoping to salvage midterms makes a dubious pledge to give every U.S. adult $5,000 if the Republicans retain control of both chambers of Congress.

45:14The AP news has it behind the wall. Let me see if I can find it somewhere here that will allow me to have it for free to share some more with you. I'm sorry about Jonathan J Cooper of the Associated Press. The dubious promise would likely cost more than $1 trillion and require congressional approval and would further exacerbate a country's nearly 1.8 trillion annual budget deficit and concerns about inflation. The president during the GOP's midterm convention in Dallas quote, if the Republicans win, you win with us and you get $5,000, it will be called the Trump dividend end quote. The president also likened the payments to corporations distributions of shareholders citing quote, our tremendous strength and success economically. Within an hour Vice President JD Vance appeared to try to block back Trump's proposal at least in part by suggesting the dividend payments would not go to the wealthy.

But $5,000 for every person if we keep the Congress come on man that's quid pro quo. That's not cool.

48:41It's just irresponsible. It reeks of party bosses and buying votes and hearkening back to the early to mid 1900s or even before and how elections were ran in this country. And oh, by the way, maybe more important to me than anything else. We don't have $5,000 to give to every American citizen adult estimates from the Wall Street Journal say it would cost us $1 trillion. $1 trillion. Money that we don't have when the debt is already $40 trillion. So what would that do? Increase our deficit yet again. Look, when the president does something good, I say so when he does something bad, I say so. It's bad. This is money we don't have. It looks like you're trying to buy an election. And frankly, it makes you look desperate. People see it for what it is. It's a stunt morning friends.
