Welcome to the Terrible Take, a daily segment telling Steelers Nation what's on our mind. I'm Alex Cazora, and welcome to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Maxi Hanachor. For the moment, let's put aside all the controversy and story of how Pittsburgh got here, losing out on McCuy Lemon as the Eagles traded up to take him. Let's talk about and focus on the actual selection. Hanachor, he breaks the, quote, unquote, rules. Not that those were codified into law, but the Steelers had gone the last 16 years in a row using their first round pick on a player either brought in for a pre-draft visit or someone to head coach or general manager saw at a pro day. My last Terrible Take before the draft was wondering if that rule would stay true. It is now fallen. Hanachor does not fall into either of those camps. He did not come in for a visit, and they were not at his pro day. He admitted his contact with Pittsburgh before the draft was light.

An 18-minute combine formal, a Zoom call earlier this week. Pittsburgh does seem to love those Zoom calls, pushing for them in pre-Asiancy and using it to cement their pick of Hanachor. That made him a difficult player to predict the kudos to those who did, and it makes predicting players in the future that much tougher. The field now feels wide open with the golden rule gone for good. Be sure to follow us at Steelers Depot dot com and check out episodes of the Terrible Take every day by PM Easter in time.
