Welcome to the terrible take in many podcasts telling Steelers Nation what's on our mind. I'm Josh Carney. The Pittsburgh Steelers have five draft picks inside the top 100 in April's draft, and 12 picks overall to work with. That's a war chest of draft capital for GM Omar Khan to do business with. And yet, according to Mark Kabali, the Steelers might not use all five top 100 picks. And instead could look to build draft capital for 2027 to help find a franchise quarterback. On the surface, that makes some sense, especially with the Steelers projected to receive no compensatory picks next year. But from a roster building perspective, Khan and assistant GM Andy Wydel should be using those picks to build up the roster around the quarterback position this year, creating a great atmosphere for the next franchise QB to step into when it's time. Yes, the 2027 QB draft class is hyped up right now. A lot of big names are in the mix. But that was the case this time last off season two,

regarding the 2026 class. And it turned out to largely be a dud. Pittsburgh has far too many holes in the roster to be trading away at top 100 pick for future drafts capital. Use the three draft picks in the third round to land potential starters at positions of need, like wide receiver, offensive line, inside linebacker, cornerback or safety. Take advantage of the roster turnover in recent years that led to additional draft capital and get younger and build the infrastructure around the quarterback position first. Then be in position to strike when the time is right.
