The Room Where the Shadow Waited | Real Ghost Stories CLASSIC

About this episode

Real Ghost Stories Online is made possible by:

After moving into a historic area of southern Canada, he noticed almost immediately that something about his bedroom felt wrong.

At first, nothing happened. Then came the sleep paralysis.

He began waking to the sight of a tall man standing in the corner of the room, watching him. Soon, doors were opening and closing on their own, objects were shaking violently, and tapping sounds came from a bedroom window overlooking nothing but forest.

The strangest part was how focused the activity seemed to be. Open the bedroom door, and the shaking stopped. Close it again, and it started.

He had never experienced anything paranormal before moving into that house. So what changed—and why did whatever was there seem so interested in his room?

This is a bit of a weird story. Yeah. I recently moved down to Southern Canada. Not going to say where, but it is a very historic area. We found this house. First of all, there's a house. Not a house. There's a cement foundation in my backyard that was the foundation of a house right here

that burned down. My family, we've been pretty light sleepers, but I'm a super deep sleeper. Sometimes I'm out. Every sense we moved in here, my bedroom just kind of felt off. I shared the first two months. Nothing really happened, but on the second month, just at the cusp of the end of it, I had my first instances like, whoa, what is weird? This is weird. I had a sleep paralysis, which was possibly the scariest thing that's happened to date, because I didn't recognize it at sleep paralysis. I just saw this man in the corner of my room standing there and observing me. I heard my fridge door opening and slamming shut repeatedly and stuff like that.

I snapped out of it. I was like, oh, that's weird. And I could not go to sleep for the rest of the night. And you know, I kept on going on, but recently, my doors have been opening and shutting by themselves. I just came downstairs because upstairs is where my room is. And all my stuff started shaking violently. It does this almost every day. And it only ever happens when my bedroom door was closed. So I did where I was holding my camera. I'd opened the door. The stuff would stop shaking. But as I'd close the door, the stuff would start shaking again. And stuff would be knocked over. And now it's been every night constantly where I get sleep paralysis and stuff like that. I've never had any paranormal instances before in my life. I'm not going to say guaranteed paranormal, but it's a little weird. And I see these people in my house.

I'd go downstairs. My fridge door would be open. Gives me chills. And there's this one instance that I'd really like to share where I was in my room. It was late at night. I'm a weird sleeper. I go to sleep at like six. I wake up at 4.30 in the morning. I just like doing that, but lately my sleep schedule has been off. I've been really in a sulk. I kept on being, I was like up until 11, which is weird. Because usually I can't stay up past eight. I kept on hearing this tapping noise coming from my window. I had this massive window in my room, right? And there's a Canadian flag over the window. I just always been weird about that window. I always feel like something's watching me through the window, especially because it leads to just butt-friced nowhere, like straight out into forest.

So it's just a little creepy. And I kept on hearing this tapping noise. And I had this overwhelming feeling of, oh man, if I look out right now, I'm going to see something there. There's going to be a person, probably that same guy that I keep on seeing every day. I didn't come out of my blankets. I had a pillow fort going in my bed. I just huddled up there. I was watching videos and stuff on my phone. And oh man, it was just creepy. It's kind of a more of a darker turn, but four or actually five years come this June ago, my father passed away in a tragic accident. And I was there. And because of that, I developed PTSD. And I've had night terrors that have been screaming in my sleep and walking around.

And yeah, it's just been wacky. I know that that person is not my dad because my dad was rather of short and stocky statues. He was built like a brick shedhouse, but you know, with short, he was five, nine-ish. And this shadow figure, my roof is about seven foot tall. And he almost has the crick is neck that stands straight up, such as weird. It's just got this weird presence to it. It's never done anything threatening to me, but it just feels threatening because it screams and stomps around at night. And it has this tapping noise that it won't stop doing. It shakes my stuff, it points my stuff. And it's like only ever in my room and downstairs because like I'd see him when I'm dosing off. I finally opened my eyes and I'll see him in the corner of my eye and choke back up.

It's creepy. So I'd like to hear your guys', I know the story was a bit all over the place because I'm not good at speaking and time constraints and stuff like that. I started all out, but whatever. And yeah, I'd like to hear your guys' take on the story and see what it possibly could be. It's just the shadow figure, man. I named him Carrots, by the way. So it's named Carrots. And I'd like to hear your guys' thoughts on what this could be. Love the podcast. Rogue raccoons is what I'm going to go with. Rogue raccoons is the answer of what I'm going to show. And the show. Yes. Rogue raccoons. I will say this. I don't think it has anything, not one thing to do with his dad. No. I don't. It may be, you know, I don't know. I think sometimes when you get consumed by grief or anger, you know, when emotions are going up and down and sometimes I wonder if you kind of can invite things in that way.

Yeah. I don't think it has anything to do with his dad. Yeah, I don't really necessarily either. I just think sometimes we look for, you know, we're always trying to make sense of everything. And then sometimes if someone has passed recently or that's on the mind that that will be the first thing that one kind of goes with. But I don't think it's always the answer that why they're. No. And I don't think any shadow people, they all say they're really, you know, tall, dark. Now you now you are profiling shadow people and you are that's so inappropriate. Yeah. Shadow is. They're all tall, dark and handsome. And like you just can't see their face. They wear top hats and Carol happens to love all of them. When is the weather hats? Why do so many more hats? I don't know. I don't know if it makes no sense to me, but people talk about that all the time and they were wearing a hat. I'm like, why? I do not know that part. Only the other thing I can think of is it's like, you know, it's a long time ago that these people maybe lived and maybe it's a reflection more of that time.

I don't know. You were looking at old pictures of everybody's wearing hats. Yeah. So like a hundred years from now, all the shadow people have backwards baseball hats on maybe. Backpacks. Backpacks. That's it. Like they all look like all these hunchbacked ghosts. No, it's just backpacks. It's a Jansport actually. It's from 98, but there you go. All right. That's going to wrap up this episode. If you want access to the bonus episodes and everything else, take us out Apple podcast or premium channel there or patreon.com slash real ghost stories. Until next time for all of us at real ghost stories online. I'm Tony Bruceke. Thanks for listening.
