Whatever Knocked Came Back | Real Ghost Stories CLASSIC
About this episode
When she first heard three sharp knocks on her brother’s bedroom window late one Saturday night, she tried to blame her cousin, who lived nearby. About a year later, however, the same precise knocking began outside her own bedroom, arriving at nearly the same time night after night. Her father finally circled their rural Arkansas home with a shotgun, but there was no one waiting in the darkness.
The knocking stopped—until years later, when Jamie was home studying around midnight while her mother and boyfriend slept. This time, three knocks came from the front door. Surrounded by windows and unable to see who—or what—might be watching from outside, Jamie was too frightened to move.
Was someone playing a cruel game with her family, or had whatever once waited outside her bedroom finally found its way to the door?

Let's jump over to our first phone call of the day and hear a ghost story. Hello. Hey guys, this is Jamie from Arkansas. So the house that our grew up in as a child, it was, you know, I don't know, maybe it wasn't super old, but there were definitely some people that it stood there before. I was in my family most in. So there's a lot of things that have happened there, but specifically when I was in middle school, I had my own bedroom and my parents in their room, my brother had his room. It's my brother's had experiences in his room, but in mine, all that I remember, it's very strange.
I was the first time I remember it happening. I was in my brother's room and I was playing guitar hero or something like that. It's that till she how long ago this was and it was a Saturday night. It was late. My dad was the only one there with me. He was asleep. And I remember hearing Marina on my brother's window and my cousin, he lived up the driveway and there was half friends over and stuff like that. So that's kind of what I chopped it up to at the time. Yeah, I never really thought anything about it. I was first there. It kind of froze me a little bit, but anyway, fast forward. I don't really remember how much longer. I probably, I don't know if it was a year or so, but it was around the same time every night. I would be laying in my bed.
And I think it was around like 11 or so. It was pretty close. It was like the exact same time every night. There would be three knots on my window, just bam, bam, bam. And I knew this wasn't my cousin that was coming up. That was me. He had school. And he, I knew that he was in bed, you know. So after a while, I started to tell my parents about it because I was very concerned. I didn't know where it was coming from. Somebody told me the next time it happened, wake me up and let me know. So I did. And I mean, this happened probably, I don't know for five times, maybe the fifth time he went outside at night in his underwear with the shotgun went around the house, looked around. Nobody. Nothing. So after that, I don't think it ever happened again. So whatever it was that must have scared off will be in my parents divorced later on.
So it was just me, my ex boyfriend, my mom was asleep. Everybody was just like me. I just started college. So I was up studying late at night. And it was around probably midnight. I had some of the last on. But like I said, it was just me. And I was up studying and I heard three knots at the door. Mind you, it's midnight. I live in a rural area, small town in Arkansas. You know, used to I could have kind of blamed it on my cousin, you know, kind of messed it with me, maybe his friends, but we lived around older people. And I know that he wouldn't have been doing that. And I was literally just like frozen in fear. That was the one time that I had been so scared I couldn't even move. Because my house was literally covered in windows. The door, the front door was the window like the top part of it. There were two windows beside it that were kind of fall over, but that's just how those mind these houses were.
The back door was a window with two windows beside it. And yeah, just all throughout the house, we had windows very open. So I didn't know what could possibly be looking at me through the windows. So I just couldn't move. I had a candle going at everything. I went to my bedroom, trying to wake my ex boyfriend up. He wouldn't wake up. He was always that kind of so groggy. He didn't wake him up out of his sleep. So yeah, I was just literally frozen in fear. My dad, like I said, my parents put up a heat. Tommy had to use the shotgun. He told me that if I went outside and caught the shotgun that whoever it was would probably run off just from that. So to do that is, you know, it's fine with shooting the guts. So anyway, there are several other things that have happened in this house, but I don't know if I can have enough time to talk. I feel like a lot of people on the podcast have all this time to talk, but I've had to rush to try to finish and then it cuts me off. So I'm not sure about that, but thank you guys so much for the podcast. I really enjoy it.
That would be your phone dropping out, not our end if you're getting cut off because you have like 15 minutes, I think, is the recording time. So yeah, what are your thoughts on that? You know, I think it's interesting because number one, if I was to hear three knocks on a window at night, that would scare the shit out of me. But the fact that they've had other activity in the house and that's happened more than once, you know, because you could just miss it as a kid, you know, or maybe somebody like in my case, jump my fence somehow, ran up knocked on my window, thought it'd be funny. I mean, that can happen. Sure. When it happens repeatedly, then that's weird. So, you know, there's one theory that three knocks on the door is, you know, means death, like someone's going to die. But I've had it happen when we lived in the haunted house, nobody ever died. So I don't really believe that, but then there's also a spiritual side of it. Yeah, totally. We even outdoor cat that came in knocked on the window when we had some people over the other night, three times.
And immediately I thought, well, we got to exercise the cat, like literally put it on a treadmill. Some exercises, some lifts, some pull ups, some pushes, you know, we did never knock on the window again, three more times. But it did knock on the windows, like I think it hit it with this tail. It was kind of funny. Oh my God, that was scared of the crap out. It was a little weird. Then it's like, now, like all happy. Like, I am here. Remember me. Yes, you're free. Remember you. All right.
