The Kids Who Knocked… Then Vanished | Real Ghost Stories
About this episode
Brian was thirteen and home alone when someone knocked on the door. Looking out the dining room window, he saw two kids standing on the porch, waiting patiently for someone to answer.
He nearly opened the door—until an overwhelming feeling stopped him. Moments later, after another knock, he checked the window again. The porch was empty.
The strange part? With a long driveway and a clear view of the yard, there was nowhere they could have gone without him seeing them leave.
Years later, after hearing stories about something called “Black Eyed Kids,” the memory suddenly felt a lot less ordinary.

This could be a Black-eyed kid story. I love Black-eyed kid stories and I know it's so creepy, but I absolutely am fascinated by them. I am fascinated by them and is it just like folklore or does it really happen? Because it does definitely seem to people, you know, there are stories where people swear that it happened to them. It's been quite a while since we've had one. Yeah, and I don't know if this truly is a Black-eyed kid story, but it could be. That's the thing. You know, it's interesting because it's just that feeling you get, it's like it's not right. And what is it? Yeah.
So this here's the story. It says, I've been listening to the show for a while now, mostly while I'm driving to and from work. It reminded me of something that happened to me when I was a kid, and at the time, I didn't really think of it as paranormal. It was just one of those strange things that stuck in the back of my mind over the years, but recently I heard someone talking about Black-eyed kids, and it brought the memory back so clearly that I figured I'd write it in and share it. So when this happened, I was about 13. My parents had gone out for the evening, nothing unusual, dinner with friends across town. I was home alone for a few hours. This was the early 2000s before everyone had cell phones glued to them, so it was pretty normal for me to stay home by myself for the night, as long as I locked the doors and didn't answer them. Our house wasn't a quiet neighborhood, not rural, but it wasn't busy. We had a long driveway that came up to the front of the house, and the front door sat just off the dining room.
There was a window in the dining room that looked straight toward the porch, so if someone came to the door, you could see them from there without opening anything. I remember it was already dark out. I was in the living room watching TV and probably half paying attention, flipping through channels, when I heard a knock at the front door. It wasn't frantic or anything like that, it was just a normal knock. My first thought was that it was probably someone from the neighborhood, maybe a neighbor needing something or someone asking if my parents were home. Since I was home alone, my parents had always drilled it into me, that I should never open the door for anyone. If someone knocked, I was supposed to ignore it. Still, curiosity got the better of me. Instead of going straight to the door, I walked into the dining room and peaked out through the window so I could see who it was, and standing on the porch were two kids. They looked around my age, maybe a little younger, I didn't recognize either of them, but that didn't seem strange. Kids from nearby neighborhoods
would sometimes cut through the area, walking home from the park or the middle school. They weren't doing anything odd. They were just standing there near the door, like they were waiting for someone to answer. For a second, I just watched them through the window. One of them looked toward the window and noticed me, and when he did, he kind of gestured toward the door like he expected me to come open it. So I stepped away from the window, walked over to the front door, I'm getting anxiety just reading this. I unlocked it and put my hand on the door knob, and that's when something strange happened. Right as I was about to open the door, this really strong feeling came over me, and it's hard to explain exactly what it was. It wasn't panic or fear exactly, but it was an overwhelming sense that I should not open the door. Almost like something in the back of my mind was saying, don't open the door. At the exact same time, I remembered my parents' rule about not letting people inside when I was home alone. That rule suddenly felt a lot more
important than it had a minute earlier. So instead of opening the door, I stepped back. I figured if they really needed something, they would just knock again and go to another house. I stood there quietly for a few seconds listening, then I heard another knock. The same kind of knock as before, not aggressive, just a steady knock at the door. For some reason, that made the whole situation feel stranger. If they had already seen me at the window, they probably knew someone was home, but I still didn't open the door. Instead, I just waited there for maybe a minute or so, trying to decide what to do. I went back to the dining room, carefully peaked out the window again. This time I made sure to stay far enough back so they wouldn't see me looking. And the porch was empty. The two kids were completely gone. At first that might not sound strange, but the thing that stuck with me is how quickly it happened, and it had only been about a minute since the second knock. Our driveway was pretty long,
and from the dining room window, I would have been able to see anyone walking down it. If they had gone toward the street, I would have seen them. If they had gone across the yard, I would have seen that too. But there was no one. No kids walking away. No one in the driveway, nothing. I remember standing there for a minute or two looking out the window, expecting to see them pop back into view somewhere, but they never did. That would freak me out too. Eventually, I just went back to the living room. I tried to forget about it. My parents came home later that night. I didn't even mention it. At the time, it seemed like a weird little moment that didn't make much sense. Over the years, I thought about it from time to time, mostly wondering where those kids could have gone so quickly. Then not too long ago, I was listening to the podcast when you mentioned Black Eyed Kids. I had never heard of that before. They were describing stories about kids knocking on doors, asking to be let inside, and people often said they felt an overwhelming sense that they
shouldn't open the door. As soon as I heard that part, that night popped right back into my head. I want to be clear. I never saw anyone's eyes. I never opened the door. I never talked to them. So I'm not saying that's definitely what it was. But hearing those stories was the first time I had ever come across something that even remotely reminded me of that experience. All I know is that for some reason, I had a very strong feeling that opening that door would have been a bad idea. Even now, years later, whenever someone knocks on my door unexpectedly at night, I still find myself looking out the window first before going anywhere near the handle. Maybe it was nothing, but that one minute where those two kids somehow disappeared without me seeing them walk away has always stuck with me. Thanks for all the great shows and forgiving people of place to share stories like this. I've got a few others from growing up I might write in about some time. Take care, Brian. I don't know. I think it could be a Black Eyed Kid story.
Well, I had up until the point that Brian looked out and saw kids. I had almost the identical story happened to me where I was watching TV or whatever, knock at the door. Mine only did it three knocks and I just set their frozen and I too heard a voice say don't open the door. And my heart just was pounding and I knew something was terribly wrong. It was dark. I couldn't have seen anything anyway had I looked out, but I don't know what was there on the other side of the door, but up until when he actually saw kids, I was like, this is my identical story. Well, and that's so funny because and I was about 12 because that happened to you and in that because that's a haunted house we live in. Yeah. But me, I heard who I thought Brenda jumping up on
the side of the porch and walking across the porch and knocking on the door, it's night. I went up and I got up and went and answered the door and nobody was there. Nobody at all. And that was a weird thing. I remember we peaked out on the porch and somebody from the living room goes, who's there? I'm like, nobody. Like because I wasn't the only one. I wasn't home alone. Then it was like it was Brenda or Nikki, one of them had jumped up on this. Yeah, they had jumped up on this because that's where they always jumped up was on that and they usually went to the kitchen door. But when they went to the front door, they would jump up there because you didn't have to walk around. It was a shortcut. And I went and I went and opened the door. So lucky for me, there was no black-eyed kids. I just thought it was my best friend. The only thing that does a kind of fit into the traditional classic black-eyed kid's story is they weren't begging. Let us in. Let us in. Maybe they would have had he opened the door.
Yeah, I hate to think what would have happened if he'd opened the door. I'm just so glad he didn't. But usually, even if you're not opening the door, they say, my mom was, you know, I need to call my mom. Can I use your phone? Can I, you know, these weird excuses like what they want? And you know, it's weird because they're not like smart enough to trigger the things that would get us to open the door. Like there's a man out here and he's chasing us. Oh my god. You know, or something like that. Yeah, but they do this weird kind of like I need to use the phone weirdness. And you're like, I don't know about that. And then they look out. But they don't just go away either. They kind of are trying it again. And they did try again. Right. In Brian's instance, it didn't happen again in mind. But I think I don't know. Could it be? I don't know.
Enough of the elements line up that it could be a black eyed kid story. It could be. And I think you just need to listen to your gut. And something was wrong. Something was off here. That it just wasn't right. And whether it was paranormal, alien, or just two kids up to no good, something was off. He had a bad feeling. Yeah. But I'm just glad he didn't know. That was good parenting. They convinced her kid like don't ever open the door for anybody. Well, he heard that. But then he heard a voice, you know, immediately say don't open the door. And I heard that voice too. Once. So thank God he didn't. I do think something was really wrong there. I'm not sure what it was. Could it have been black eyed kids? Could have been. I don't know. They wouldn't all happen.
We usually get this weird pleading with black eyed kids. Let us say, let us. And you know, just this kind of odd kind of thing that way. But would it have to. I don't know that that has to be that way. You know, maybe there's just some variations of the black eyed kids. Yeah. You know, just like Jehovah witnesses, they all have their own approach when they know what I'm saying. That is true. That is true. They'll find their angle. And it's like, this is what work last time. Just stand here. Yeah. We're going to talk to you about war. I don't see it. No, you're not. Like, yeah, I'm going to open the door to talk about war with you. That happened me recently. That's what maybe that worked with my neighbor, but I'm not interested in discussing war with you today. Like religion was bad enough. It's like, you might as well say, let's talk about politics. I'm going to knock on your door. I'm expecting to walk into your house, sit down
and have a conversation about war. Yeah. What? I think my, when she said that, I literally think my mouth dropped open. And you know, it's one of those times where you want to look at her and go, does this really work on the neighbors? Like, like, really? Did they let you in? Does anybody let you in? Like this, this might have been the first shot at this one, because it is, I'm just going to tell you right now, this one doesn't work. You're going to have to get a new one. And then there was one day, the way my studio is, it's a second bedroom. So it's used as a bedroom studio, because I live by myself, but I can see who's knocking at the front door. I can kind of peek over and see him. So if somebody knocks, it's a Saturday morning, I peek over and it's two men, and I know it's Jehovah Witnesses, because they're kind of dressed or Mormon. Maybe they were older. It's an older guy and younger guy. So I don't think it was Mormons, because usually the Mormons are like, they look like they're two 16 year olds. Right. But I'm like, why would I open my door
for two men? Yeah, as a single woman, I'm going to invite these two guys in my house, because I'm just saying, if I was a murderer, that might be a good way to get entry into somebody's house. Like I'm here to talk about Jesus. Yeah. Yeah. Oh my god. No, you don't answer the door. I think maybe a better approach would be like some sort of trade off. So like you walk up the door and say, hi, my name's Barb, I would like to teach you how to crochet. And you'd be like, I would love, I've been dying to know how to crochet. So you come in, she teaches you how to crochet. Then she starts, while you're doing it, she's talking about the Bible or whatever. See, I think, and even, oh, I still wouldn't let you talk about, even if you talked about the Bible, at least you learned how to crochet. Right. Now, maybe she was, I am teaching crochet at the rec center down the street. I got a class this afternoon at two o'clock if you're interested.
But I'm wondering if there's a way to do this, you know, where, okay, I'll put up with listening to you about this, but I did learn how to crochet. I think I just think they all need a new approach, including the black eyed kids, because letting people into your house these days is not a good idea. So I think they all need, I think they all need to rethink this. No, I would think the Mormons would be like, you know, I think we got a quitson in these kids out and couples around the world. It's really not safe. It's not safe for them. It's, you know, nobody really wants to let them into their house. No. You know, let's, like, let's do some more social media stuff. That's what I think. I agree. I agree. I think it's not safe. So anyway, let's go to this phone call. Hi, my name is Chance Gabriel. I come from the Philippines by 300 reside in Tacoma, Washington. My story is basically how the whole console pair normal got to me. So when I was about 10 years old, I was just even a normal elementary school kid, I think.
I was doing a rapport on something totally not to the subject, but I had a lot of these magazines, National Geographic magazines. I basically was like carrying it to my room. By the way, the house that I reside in is a two bedroom house economical. It was actually a pretty normal night. Nothing really added an ordinary, nothing that you would, that was, I use you honestly. But when I was carrying it in, I saw this glowing orb. It was praying as they, it wasn't my see through at all. It was so white and radiant. When I looked at it, I thought, I'm like, oh my god, what the hell do I do? I stood there for a second. Then my body just, I guess, nudged itself, punched itself in the side or something. And then like, oh crap, is that a ghost? Is that a supernatural entity? And at that point, I just, it's like sort of when you're
um, when you're acting, it's like, oh my gosh, that's scary. Like, I literally went like, what, ah, mom, there's something in the room. Help me, help me. My mom went in the room when we pulled back into the room. Nothing was there. At the time, nobody in my family died. I had nobody, no relation with anyone that passed away or anything like that. So that to me, that was a very freaky experience. Or also, it's because my mom is technically clairvoyant and has supernatural powers that you can see with the future and other supernatural things throughout my mother's side who are also super naturally connected, I guess. But yeah. And I would like to call back again next time. Oh, stories about Luigi Borgher and experiences that like, literally happens again at possessions like that. All right. Bye guys. I tell you, I love that kid.
Well, I get to, but I don't know about the possession story. That one might really get to me. It's the way he said it. Like, okay, so let me tell you about the time I was, I might call back and I've got Luigi Borgher and possession stories. Yes. There was that time laugh. But this is what made me laugh. Like, I listened to this call earlier today and I got to laughing so hard at this. Oh crap. Is that a ghost? Is that a supernatural entity? I want to put that on a, I want to put that on a button and then in any story, it could just like we're talking about something I could go. Kathy, wait a minute. Oh crap. Is that a ghost? Is that a supernatural entity? And then we have that discussion and then this one. Ah, mom, there's something in the room. Help me. Help me. Like we're telling a story like the Black Eyed Kid story. And then it's like, I don't know what happened. Ah, mom, there's something in the room. Help me. Help me. Help me.
Oh, well, I thought this might have something to do with National Geographic magazines, but I don't think it does. No, it went from National Ge, it was something that's mundane is getting ready for this. And he had his National Geographic magazines and then he does a randomly season and orb and then was all like, Oh crap. Is that a ghost? Is that a supernatural entity? I don't know, but I'm going to have to say probably. I'm going to go with yes. Usually you have to have a camera to catch that. But sometimes people see. Sometimes people see them. That's right. Yeah. And I think maybe you have a little bit of your mom's abilities. Ah, mom, there's something in the room. Help me. Help me. But I don't know that mom. He said mom came in. Nothing was there. So she didn't even like indicate or he doesn't indicate that she felt anything was
a mess in the room. Yeah, I don't think that he fully fleshes out the story. We get the basics of the story. But I think, you know, he's just walking in his room, carrying his National Geographic magazines and boom, orb. You just never know when that's going to happen. That's true. You never know when you're going to be confronted by an orb ghost or entity. Yeah. So I don't know, but I love that kid so much. Yeah. Well, yeah, I'm anxious to hear the Weechy board story. And the possession story. I'm a little scared about the possession one, but because he said that at the end, he's really happy. Next time, I'm sorry, he's about Weechy board and experiences that like, literally happens again, a possession like that. And stuff like that. And stuff like that. Like, what's the other stuff? Like, and possessions and stuff like that? What is something like that? A possession is a possession. Right. Oh, I don't think there's
anything like a possession other than a possession. I'm not sure. I wonder if it all goes back to his mother's side of the family. I'm going to say, yes, I just feel like the mom might be that, you know, he may have some abilities that have come down from the mold. Absolutely. Because definitely mom's got it going on. Yeah. I don't know, but I absolutely love him. So if you have a real ghost story, share it with us. You can call it in at 855-855-34802.
