2:10Welcome into another episode of DeCecho Dauy. Andrew DeCecho here, eaglesbeatreporterfriendsidethebirds.com. And happy opening day to those of you who observe, the Philadelphia Phillies, kick off their season opener today, which is Thursday if you're listening today when it comes out. But there's still a lot to get into with the Philadelphia eagles as there always is. And today I want to spend some time talking about which positions and which players make the most sense at 23 assuming the eagles stand pad. And I want to kind of go through that. And there's also some jersey number changes. And I want to keep everybody abreast as to what those changes may be because I know there's some jersey enthusiasts out there. But I look at the first round at Pick 23. And for me, it's got to be offensive tackled. Well, it doesn't have to be. But I would think given the eagles philosophical approach of really building through the trenches, it would make a lot of sense. Now, at 23, I would assume that Caden Proctor

3:12would still be in play, the offensive tackle from Alabama. And Blake Miller is a player who I've talked about in my mock draft 2.0 on this podcast and also on InsideTheBirds.com. And at Clemson, he struck me as a player that would really fit what the eagles are now planning to do offensively in terms of being able to have that fluidity and moving laterally. And getting out in space and being able to acquit himself well there, based off of the expected blocking schemes and the changes that were expected to see the front for the eagles. And he's more of a right tackle, but I like his athleticism. And I think he has the prototypical skill set of what I imagine Sean Manion, Chris Cooper, and Ryan Mahaffer going to prioritize. They're going to value in the draft. And I think he's a name that could be a little bit of a riser. And I'm not suggesting that he's going to be a mid-round,

4:13middle of the first round kind of prospect. But I think what you're seeing on some mock drafts and things like that is that he's the late one early two. I kind of view him right around 23. But then you have Caden Proctor, who is another player that you should be keeping an eye on and absolutely highlighting. But at 6'7", 366 pounds, it's easy to see the fit under Jeff Stoutland where you had no questions as to whether or not he was going to be able to make it work. Jeff Stoutland can make everything work. But he is a little bit of a projection in the sense that you don't necessarily know how he would fit within the scheme in terms of getting out in space and just being able to be nimble and all those things that you would assume the Eagles are going to really value here. And you've got to take the best player. If you view Caden Proctor as the best player, you take them and you figure it out. And Chris Cooper, here you go.

5:14This is your opportunity to make sure that he reaches his potential. And I really like Caden Proctor. And I think he would be a fit for any scheme, any system for that matter. But if you have your choice between those two tackles, let's say, and there's others, but those are the two I really want to focus on, it would seem like a Blake Miller or somebody of that ilk would make a lot more sense there. But man, Caden Proctor, just heavy hands, physical, powerful. And I still think that he's only scratching the surface. But again, you have the size. Is that what you're looking for? I'm curious to see how the Eagles go about evaluating offensive lineman. Because in the past, you would take the best player and you just were under the assumption. And rightfully so, the Jeff Stoutlin was going to figure it out. And mold that player into someone who is going to be either a high-end starter or in the case of a Fred Johnson, a high-end backup that can be reliable, very rarely was a player not able to reach

6:18their ceiling under a Jeff Stoutlin. Chris Cooper is a little bit of an unknown. And I'm fascinated to see which direction they would go or which style of offensive lineman they target in the draft. Because I do believe they're going to address the offensive line. And for me, I would wait no longer than pick 23 or in the first round to get that player. There's also a wide receiver who could be in play. And I look at Omar Cooper as someone at that spot who would, it wouldn't be a reach. And Omar Cooper is exceptional after the catch. He's a three-level threat. He's a physical player who will tack the football in the air. And I think you can also use him as a manufacturer touch player, which as I've said many times, the Eagles don't have that guy. And I'm also really intrigued to see what kind of players Sean Manion targets on the offensive side. And then that'll maybe give me a clearer picture of how they envision this offense. But Omar Cooper, I think you can rest assured

7:20that he can play inside. He can play outside. He can get vertical. He's exceptional after the catch. And the Eagles really struggled last season being able to manufacture yards after the catch. That was a byproduct of a lot of things. And we're not going to rehash that. We've talked enough about that. But there were a number of reasons why players weren't necessarily put in the position where they can catch the football and then be able to get that yak that you see all these preeminent offenses be able to manufacture. And so if they go wide receiver, I will look at Omar Cooper. KC Conception from Texas A&M is a player who I really like. I mentioned on here that the Eagles have, they met with them. It was a formal interview at the NFL Scad in Combine and talk about speed. He's a polished route runner. Not necessarily the biggest receiver in the world. If you're comparing him to, let's say, an AJ Brown or a DK Metcalf or whomever. But again, another movable player,

8:20he can also help you in the return game. And I think those are the two wide receivers that I'm particularly looking at there. And then you have the edge rusher situation. A lot can obviously happen between now and then. And I don't think it's a finished product. They have J-Lux Hunt. They have Nolan Smith. They have Arnold Ebukati. And they have Jose Vermeera. Jose Vermeera is more or less a camp body. At least that's how I'm viewing it initially until he gets on the field. But I think his track record would suggest that you can't necessarily hang your hat on him landing a final edge rusher spot. You never want to count on anybody out. But I think we can all say that that's not going to be a suitable answer. They obviously need a headliner here. And losing J-Lux Hunt was huge. I still don't fault the Eagles one bit for not being able to meet the Panthers or meet that level of 30 million a year. That was a grossly overpaid for J-Lux Hunt. I like the player quite a bit.

9:22But there's other avenues that the Eagles can fortify that position. Whether it's a trade, maybe a Jonathan Grenard. Or maybe you look at the NFL draft at Pick 23. And you try to get either a Malchai Lawrence from UCF who's rising a little bit. He was always viewed that way around the NFL. But you're starting to see in mock drafts and draft circles, his name's coming up a little bit. But I also really like Kendrick Falk from Auburn. Lengthy guy at six foot six. And he's young. I don't think he's 21 years old yet. But he has a skill set that I think is almost like a clean slate. It's almost like a blank canvas, if you will. I'm not saying he's wrong, but he's so young. And he has the tools and he has the length. And I do believe that he could even drop into coverage and play in space if you need him to, which we've seen edge rushers have to do in a Vic Fangio defense. And I think 23 late first round is kind

10:23of where I have him pegged right now. So if you're looking at some of those positions, those are some of the players that I really like. And I even considered when I was putting together my mock draft 2.0, because they're positions of need, of course. But they are also players that it wouldn't be a reach by any means for them to come off the board around that time or thereabouts. Safety, I don't view that as a position that the Eagles would target in the first round. Never say never of course, but it's not a position that they traditionally value. And so for those reasons, I don't think you would see an Emanuel, McNeil Warren, or somebody to that effect come off the board of 23. I think that'd be a little rich for a safety. I believe I had in the fourth round in the key Wheatley, the safety from Penn State. And again, that's another position that they might be able to acquire via trade as well. So just because they don't have an abundance of players or maybe someone that you feel comfortable with,

11:25heading that group, those respective rooms doesn't necessarily mean that it's a finished product, that they're going to go into the draft with their hopes engine going to identifying those players. There's still a lot of time between now and then. But I mean, those are two positions that are really light. And I'm interested to see how the Eagles fulfill those roles. Elijah Moore is another player that I wanted to talk about for a moment because I like the signing to be clear. I like the signing in the sense that you're taking a low-risk flyer on a 26-year-old wide receiver who was drafted in the second round wasn't put in the most optimal or dynamic offenses with the Jets and the Browns, but he is on his 15. And that's important to note. He shouldn't be assured anything. He's certainly a far cry from being a roster lock. And let's just go through this exercise for a moment. You have AJ Brown, you have Devonte Smith, Hollywood Brown, I like as the three.

12:29And then let's say Elijah Moore is your four, which I think there's a lot out there who are assuming or maybe penciling him in. That might be a little premature. Those are your four, let's say hypothetically. Who's playing special teams of the backup receivers? You also have Johnny Wilson, who does a nice job as a blocker. Now he's always played in one season. We'll have to see how he returns from the injury. But he provides a different facet and a different element that I think was so sorely needed last season. And we'll see how he returns. Because I do think that there's growth potential with him as well. Then you have Darius Cooper. Darius Cooper does play special teams. Darius Cooper is a homegrown player who was now going to be in his second season with the Eagles first year in a new system. But he does give you third phase value. And by the way, who would be your punt returner? Elijah Moore doesn't return puns. Hollywood Brown isn't going to be that guy in all likelihood. So what direction would you go as a punt returner?

13:30If those are your top four receivers, that leaves you teams carry five or six. Well, if Johnny Wilson, Darius Cooper, they don't return puns. Well, who would be your punt returner? And I'm not saying that to make it out to be this big ordeal. But these are things to keep in mind because this is how evaluators view things when they're piecing together a 53 man roster. So we have to see how Elijah Moore performs in camp. He gives you a little bit of a different skill set than Hollywood Brown. I like his short area quickness, his ability to affect the short to intermediate levels. Whereas I like Hollywood Brown, at least in theory, he hasn't done a lot of it in his career. But threaten teams vertically. They finally have, he finally lands with the team that I think can exploit his speed down field because Jaylen Hertz throws a really good deep ball. So that's my, just a little thing I wanted to add in there with Elijah Moore and just kind of get the wheels turned and maybe get some, gets the thought process

14:32going maybe in a different direction. That's kind of how I'm approaching that going into the off season. A low risk, potentially solid reward and taking a flyer on that. Those are the players that you want to take those one year swings on because they've shown ability at some point in their career and then it now becomes, what are they gonna do with this opportunity? Those are your highly anticipated jersey numbers for the new additions, in the case of Tank Bigs Beach, he simply just changed, he upgraded really from 37 to eight.
