My name is Shannon Maldonado, I'm the founder of Yaoie, a gift shop from the lens of artists and handmade objects. I chose Shopify because when I was testing other platforms it was definitely one of the most user friendly. It was important to me to think about where we would be in the future. All of the tools for reading your sales like planning inventory, so just right there on your dashboard. For anyone starting a small business, the biggest thing I can tell you is it doesn't have to be perfect. Shopify can help you build upon it. Start your free trail on Shopify.com. A list-n-a-production. We're turning into diary of a CEO here. That's kind of all out, bro. Oh, don't cut it. Don't cut it. It's Matt and Alex. Yes, here we are back in it up after a big old sexy episode yesterday. If you missed Matt and Alex adults only or up late, intro by the classic and iconic, big voice of big brother Mike Goldman, give us a little intro yesterday. That is there waiting for you, but if you did listen and you were satisfied, welcome to the after-party cuddling. That is a Friday show.
Yeah, we're going to be giving you some more clues. Final clues as to who will be running at the Adelaide lineup for the raves. A little bit later on. Matt and Alex raves. That's Adelaide. We're also talking intruders after I discussed a possible intruder in my house that turned out to be a bat. We have a true intruder tale from a listener. Not big brother intruders? No, no. This is a real deal. I'm very interested to hear what a listener Trent has to say about that good friend of the show. And I figured we should get started with a little bit of what the youngsters are doing these days. Well, I thought they'd be coming along to the Adelaide rave on Sunday, November 1st at Jive Bar. Quite the opposite, my G. Let's start. Matt and Alex, happy Friday. Everyone ready? We are. So excited. Yeah, Naro, while we're going to be absolutely losing it to our five raves and five days events around the country kicking off Brisbane 29th of October. So tickets are flying
out the door for that one. Please, please jump on board if you're wanting to get to one of those. Then we're going Sydney Adelaide, a Sydney Perth, then Adelaide, then Melbourne for a big finale. So apparently the youngsters are not partying like we used to. Okay, so we're doing a 10th anniversary tour. We have accommodated people who might want to get to better a bit earlier with this particular rave, unlike 10 years ago. Start time for Adelaide at 4pm. All right, come in. Watch us do the pod. Get to the artists. Sydney, that's a Friday night. If you missed the line up, we've got Safia, Virablu, Ava science, meeting tree, Abbey and Tyrone. Stacked. Final clue later for Adelaide, but what's wrong with that? Why aren't kids wanting this? Well, they're not doing parties anymore. They're doing, they're doing darts. I thought kids were leaning away from darts. I thought the rates were going down. I'm not not. Or is it these illegal cigarettes that are flooding the market on the cheap,
encouraging the youngsters to start chuffing once again? I'm not talking about darts. I'm talking about wellness darts. Oh, of course. How silly of me I should have known. You're talking about wellness darts. I saw it. Something that Bron posted, and I said, oh, they've misspelled diary because what the hell would a wellness darty be? But Bron, this is a new trend that youngsters are taking very seriously. Yeah, a darty is a day party. It starts for a day party. Yes, but this is a wellness day party. Is the Adelaide Rover darty? Is 4pm? Is that a day party? Yeah, there's no, that's not a wellness darty. That's going to be filthy sick darty. Wellness darts, young college students are getting a bit of flak online for this trend. Yeah, I think you get flak for a wellness party. Well, because this is the way that they sort of party now.
Why? Is Gen Z killing the party industry? Bro, we talked about how they don't have house parties anymore. Now they don't even have college parties. It seems like all they're doing is getting together and doing yoga, and then going on big group runs. It honestly makes me sick. I hate young people. Honestly, so far. How dare you? Their idea of a party rather than, you know, laid on a Saturday night with red cups, you know, jumping the pool with your clothes on. Is they were in their Lycra and they're going for a jog together? Yeah. You can see the videos. There's hundreds of them all lying down on their mats. I remember being in Warnamble and one of the blocs from my year level. It was laid on a someone's 16th birthday party. Everyone was starting to get rowdy and one of the blocs puts his arm around another guy and lights his hair on fire with a cigarette light. You know,
these are the kind of parties that are generation. I tell you, Seligvie, that young people aren't doing this kind of party anymore. When I was a youngster in my party days, the only downward dog I was doing was to bloody get all the chunder up from the bottom of the gas. You were up all the doors doing the cat cow, but it was like a cat throw it up a hair ball and it was all the bloody goon coming up. I look, look, good, good on them. I'm glad that people are smarter and healthier and not is it a party for an occasion? Like, is it because these things, it's someone's 16th birthday, it's, you know, graduation. Is this a party for the sake of a party or is it like, oh, come on, come around guys, I have my 18th, I'm getting a yoga instructor and we're all going to do yoga to celebrate my 18th birthday. Look, I don't know. I did see a lucky influence on Instagram being like, yo, this is my box party and it all started at the gym and I was like, bro, I've got to tell you,
man, if I get invited to a box party and we go to the gym and then go for a jog, we ain't friends anymore. It's so good. It's bad enough. It's instead of bringing out a cake, it's a fruit platter or something. Just a ball of all brand with no milk. Yeah, Brian Hatten, no, look, all jokes aside, I respect anyone who is willing to prioritize their health over any kind of social peer pressures or anything like that. That is true. I didn't see recently, sorry, I interrupted through to Bron here, but I did see that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption. Like, you know, in the past, it used to be like, you know, one or two drinks in moderation and even red wines, antioxidants and that. It's now it's just like, ah, no, it's alcohol is bad for you at whatever levels you drink. There's no safe amount of bleach she can drink, you know, it's kind of like that. Bron, how do you feel about this wellness darty business? I mean, it doesn't sound
like my cup of tea. They would be, they would be drinking cups of tea, I'm sure of it. But they would be sitting around a pot of roibus like you wouldn't believe. They, it's the same sort of crew that does those like breakfast breakfast raves at the coffee shop, isn't it? Yeah, I mean, anything that's like, oh, let's all get together and do like group fitness. I'm like, I'd rather go around and do like a group, you know, it's not too late. It's not too late. It's still there will be starting and probably close to finishing in daylight hours. I'm happy to turn it into a Zoom recession if required. I've got a lot of choreography in the bank that we could bust out if required as part of this five raves in five days tour. What do you reckon? Mate, if I see a yoga mat at the Adelaide rave, it's going to end up in the bloody Golanel beach. Okay. Now look, no, no, look, we don't, we don't condone any of that sort of, you know,
silly business. You do you, we're proud of you for doing you. I'm glad you're healthy. I'm just not. So if anything, I'm just jealous. I'm just jealous. I can see why they're doing it. Like the South Park episode where they want to stop the kids from from using Pokemon and they just keep trying and trying nothing's working until they start going, oh, I got this new, I got this new Pikachu. Like it's so good. And then all the kids are like, you know what, I don't feel like doing this anymore. I think if we work here on stopping, and I don't think we are, kids from doing it, we just need to start acting real healthy. Hey, youngsters, who wants to go to a wellness party? That will just crack the gin right there and there and guzzle it. Anything to get away from this old loser. Hey, speaking of eating healthy, I've got a very interesting dilemma up next. And I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. Well, Alex Tyson, I was scrolling the inter words the other day and was presented with a video of a podcast clip from the United States.
This is a little clip from the Messy Parts podcast. Tell you what, these radio people, face for radio, no little grr thing anymore, is it? No, you've got to be wearing your finest every single time you turn up to the mic. I always forget to put on my good clothes when I come come to record these things. Oh, I know. I'm just wearing a slop. So was watching this video and the lady in the guest of this Messy Parts podcast episode was a lady called Bell Bird and she wrote a book called Strangers, a memoir of marriage. What had happened in Bell's journey with her relationship was that she had discovered that her husband of many, many years and the life in which she believed was true turned out to be cheating on her and it was quite a shock for her, obviously. Yeah, Dan. She really thought that everything was going well. But I don't understand it.
But something happened in the unfolding of this sort of discovery, et cetera. And it's caused quite a stir on the internet. And I want you to have a listen to what it is and I want to hear your thoughts on it. I get a call and it's a man saying your husband is having an affair with my wife. By the next morning, my husband had packed a bag and he told the children in our living room and then turned to me and said, I'm starving. Can you make me a sandwich? So husband is one of the most audacious sentences that I think I've ever heard. Anyone? Otto. Can you believe the audacity it would take as you've just broken probably three people's hearts?
Maybe a fourth if it's the other husband if you canning that and then to turn. Just make yourself one for once in your life. Ron, did you have you seen this clip? I've read this book. You read it. Yeah. Memoir of marriage. That was one of the key moments in the world. Well, it has sparked a lot of debate online because there's a debate. Well, the question is, Alex Dyson, would you make the sandwich? Yeah, damn. That's funny. You've asked because I always, and I have been thinking about this about myself recently, like I always err on the side of like, sure, I'll just, I'll be the bigger person here, right? Even when I'm annoyed and I could privately, I can go, I'm going to tell this, give this person a piece of my mind. I'm going to do this and that sort of thing. And in the end, when the moment arrives, I'm like, you know, it's not really worth it to be
angry and to do this sort of stuff like, I'd probably laugh. And just like, I'd feel the biggest amount of pity for this person that they are so deluded. And they are losing, they have just absolutely taken a stick of dynamite to their entire life in the the most selfish pursuit that you could ever do that a sandwich is the least of their worries. And just be like, it's a funny story to say. Yeah. So whilst I originally had that, I'm like, oh my God. But I, I'd probably at that moment say no, but I wouldn't begrudge someone just like laughing as sure. If that's what you're going to get out, this is the last thing you get to get because you're moving out. You've packed your bags, you're gone. You're not going to see your children. You're going to do this eventually. You'll, you know, die alone. And that's, that's it. And I hope the taste of that sandwich lingers on your pallets for many years to go. And in this moment, probably when they're expecting, they're probably just expecting a reaction more than they
were hungry, you know, and wanting to like have this person react in such a way where it's like, well, how dare you ask me for a sandwich? And just like, which you'd be well within your right to have a go. But it's interesting. It's like, yeah, sure. Whatever. Like you're out of here, man. Like that would be an ice cold kind of reaction, making the sandwich, I think as ice cold as having a line like go and go and make yourself one because you're going to be needing to figure out how to look after yourself from now on. Well, I'll give you, I mean, the what happened was author Bellburden did make the sandwich. There you go. And Brian, maybe you can elaborate a little bit more on what the, what her reasoning was behind it. But I believe she did so because she didn't want to see, let her daughters see the kind of the negative side to all this. She wanted to show a kindness side still, a compassionate side. She didn't want to sort of front of the children.
Yes. Oh boy. And is that sort of what was going on, Bron? From memory, she was like, I'm going to make the best damn sandwich she's ever had. And I remember being so pissed off at this part of the book. So I was like, just don't do it. It's interesting because that's such a when someone is using it, obviously using you for their, for their own purposes. And like as much as it teaches the kids kindness, you don't want to teach subservience to. Well, that's it. And so many people are so. So many people online are like, guess what? You've just taught them that people can walk all over you. That's actually what you've taught them. But then I don't necessarily agree with that either because a lot of people when they're confronted by a situation that they've never, you know, been in before. Yeah. You think you know what you're going to do. Yeah. And but you don't. Yeah. I mean, I have, I've been in this similar situation, you know, finding out a partner has been cheating and stuff like that. And then we ended up just getting lunch because we were hungry.
You know, she didn't ask me to make the burger, but we went and got them. Did she shout your burger? I can't even remember, actually. It's a good point. You think you think that'd be a bit of nah, I'll. I've got this one. Do you want, do you want extra fries on the side? I know you like the extra fries. No, I don't know. I think that goes anything like that. Yeah. So we split in or well, in two ways. Yes. I never actually never got to eat my sandwich. Someone else ate it. So. So you just never know, right? But you know that you think you know, I mean, obviously you wouldn't have made the sandwich either. I can imagine that you wouldn't have. No way. I would not even speak. Yeah. It is a get out situation. I fully believe that if this happened and I asked and I turned to Blinda and said, can you make me sandwich, I fully believe her head would explode. Like actually, the rage would just be unable to be contained. Yeah,
rightfully so. It is, it is the worst thing. And like not just not just a doofus who's hungry, but that to me in front of the children is like the most manipulative thing. I think you could do to another parent who is a nice person and you've done that. And now you're like doing that. So I think I don't think I don't think that it is that he was doing it because it's that manipulative. I think what he had done is gone because what you didn't hear in the clip is that they were trying to figure out who would tell how they would tell the children, et cetera. And she felt like she couldn't do it. And then so he sat down and did it. And I think in his head, he was like, oh, well, I was able to do that. You know, I've solved that problem. And then it's almost like a you only one sort of thing. You owe me a sandwich because I stepped up and told about the affair that I had. So if you make me a sandwich, then we're even unbelievable entitlements. That's my believer. Who knows? It's not really better, is it?
Anyway, it just seems like a very interesting dilemma. It's had a lot of the internet talking over the last few months. And you know, we'd love to hear your thoughts on at mat.n.alikes up next in Trudeau Woes. My name is Shannon Maldonado. I'm the founder of Yahweh, a gift shop from the lens of artists and handmade objects. I chose Shopify because when I was testing other platforms, it was definitely one of the most user-friendly. Well, Alex Dyson, I mentioned a couple of last week that I had woken up in the middle of the night due to some bumps that had been happening. Things do go bump
in the night and it turns out it was a bat. That went going bumping in the night that it made me think there was an intruder. And we asked you, you know, what are your intruder tales? Or when have you thought you'd had an intruder and Trent, a long time listener of the show, good friend of ours, he got in touch with us because Trent, you had a little bit of an intruder tale to tell. I did. Yeah. Well, that scared me actually. Oh, what are you hearing? This reminded you of something happening in your own life. Can you sit the scene for us? Where were you? Well, what was happening? Well, this is a long time ago, actually. It's probably, I can't go on back for 20 years again. Okay. In Brisbane with the end of my, my, my, not then wife, but it's now and woke up in the night. You know, as you do, you sort of lightly scan the room and you think there's no one standing there in the dark. Yeah, I do that sometimes if I've got a jacket hanging up on a hook nearby sometimes. Sometimes in the dark that does give me a little pause and a little earth. And then I got, I got to that and I go, hi, sweetly orange light.
So, go back to sleep. Hang on a minute. We're doing orange light. What's that? And that day, he's the bed with sort of right up against the wall. So, it's just right up against the window and I was up against that side. So, I just sort of stood up and we look out the window. And there's someone in a large, like a trench coat holding something on fire at the base of my window holding something on fire. Yeah, yeah, yeah, like something in his hand. I didn't know what it was. Like a like a torch that Brendan Fraser would use to light the mum to mooms or something like that. Petrol on the end of some fabric on a stick. Well, something that had some sort of accelerant in it. So, yeah, yeah. So, I've not known what it was at that time. I just thought this guy was doing, he's dangling, he's jacket holding his thing. So, I've jumped up on the window to him, and he's, and at the same time, I jumped on the window sill, he's throwing whatever it is. I'd say it's him
into the window and he's landed on the bed. It's come through the window. Yeah, yeah, yeah, and he's landed straight onto the bed and the bed's caught on fire. And naturally, I didn't, I'm like, well, I'm standing on the window sill. I want to put out the bed. So, I'm trying to wake the window up at the same time by picking up whatever this was on fire. And I threw it out onto the road and he put the bed out at the same time as trying to wake the window up because he's still asleep through the hole. Sorry, she slept through the whole thing. Yeah, yeah, all she used to sleeping in next to hot things, man. Okay, okay, Trent. I'm married to 20 years, man. These fire bombs here and they're able to say a couple of pretty good one-writers of us. They're not bad. They're pretty good. What, what, what, what, what it was that the person that thrown in? Well, it looked, well, it was all melted by then. So, whatever was made out of plastic. Yeah. And so, what we call the covers, and they come with sniffer dogs in a whole deal.
Jesus. And they found, yeah, they were there pretty quickly and they found something on fire out the back, the same sort of thing and some things on fire on the roof. So, they've been throwing whatever it was. Multiple things on the roof. Yeah. When were you, when were you hug? Were you sleeping in the front of a vape shop at this point or something? Well, actually, I think this stuff, I think, Matt, you have your wine shop in Tarring Indian. Is that right? Tarring Indian, yes. Yeah, this is in Holland Park, which is right next door. Wow, you know, in the whole park 20 years ago, I mean, streets of Holland Park. Very different via these days. Wow, Trent, that's crazy. What a nice stuff it still is. But later on, we found out that the place was used to be lived in blad, people that were very savoury, you know what I mean. So, yeah, very unsavory. Yeah, okay, Trent, she's so, they had, they hadn't spotted the moving trucks moving you in to this new place.
Did it look up the most recent rental history of the premises? Oh, god, Trent, that's pretty scary. Yeah, you know what I'm saying, mate. I'm surprising to sleep at all anymore. That's crazy. Well, look, thank you very much for sharing that Trent. It's a wonder that we, you know, that you're around to tell it to thank God. Well, that's quick thinking and light sleeping and some good, some good defense from you. That Trent, well done, man. Well, we're at, but I'm still here. So, there you go. Yeah, love it. Oh, thanks, Trent, you're a legend. And thanks for listening to the pod and we'll, yeah, we'll keep him touch, eh? All right, thanks, fellas. Wow, well, how about that, Dyso? Yeah, that'll put the hairs on your chest. That'll put the hair on the back of your neck stand up. Absolutely. Good to see, good to hear from Trent. And I'm glad to hear everything is okay there. I guess it says on, you know, put a, you can put your names on the front of the house or something like the, the O'Kine residents just to make sure
everyone knows who's living there. Yeah, depending on who you ask, I mean, if I put the O'Kine residents in the front of mine, people who have heard the original mother and sons might start whipping up their favourite, a Molotov, okay? No, we're going to get out of this and leave you with your chance to win two tickets to whatever, Matt Nalik's rave you want to come to as we have been announcing the Adelaide lineup all throughout the week. Two clues have been dropped. If you haven't heard them, you better get back to a couple of episodes and download them quickly. But if you have and you're waiting on the final clue, here it is for you right now. We recently murdered a robot with our cold bare hands. They murdered a robot with their cold bare hands. Jeez. These, these, these, these people sound ruthless. Okay, what else do we got, Bron? We met at our very first Dave University in 2014. Okay, so the first Dave Uni was in 2014. That put some at about 10 years younger than me.
Okay, so they might have started Uni a couple of years in when we did our first Adelaide rave at Fat and Troll lot. Okay, what about the next one, Bron? We used to wear matching tracksuits for a very brief moment in time. The Maxine tracksuits. Okay, interesting. Okay, it's going to be an interesting one. Get your guesses in. We're going one more. We're going to go one more. Okay, one more. Just in case. We recently tried breadsticks for the first time. Okay, I thought that might help us. I'd really thought that might be helpful addition. If you're a baker in Adelaide and had some people go, oh, geez, these are the good. Never tried them before. There may be your money. While wearing matching tracksuits. All right, well, get your guesses in at mat.and.alix. We need three correct guesses as to all of the three artists that we've announced this week for the Adelaide rave. That is the most cryptic clues we've had though. So you're in with a good chance if you're able to figure out these artists.
Yep, first in best dress. We'll win two tickets to the rave of your choice. So please hit us up at mat.and.alix. And in the meantime, if you are not an Adelaide but want to come rave with us no matter where you are, please head to matandalix.com.au for your tickets. We cannot wait to party with you all and we will see you there. And more lineups announced over the next couple of weeks as well. And please keep in touch with us for any stories that you might have rave related or otherwise across the weekend or criminal gang mix-ups. Anything at all that you know, there's happens. Always happy to have a chat to you here on the mat.and.alix podcast. We'll see you next week. Bye bye.
