Welcome to the Burman Daily, the podcast about everything Burman delivers to you every day of the week. Today, on the show, we discuss how the jim-missile of a lawsuit right now is still around. We are talking about Makersmart today. Please join me in welcoming Mike.
Give me a clean welcome to our special guest, Kate Joyce and Samaritan. Hey, hang with us up. Hey, Kate. I was a good meal didn't I? I was on the wrong thing. Okay, it happens. It happens. We've all been there. Yeah, we're going to be talking about Makersmart, a new high watermark, 17.1 million barrels resting. We'll talk about that after the break, what all that means. And, uh, full for Makersmart in the industry, we'll talk about that soon. Um, McNeil, you said there's something you want to talk about. What is that? Okay. So here's the thing. So I have a house full of stuff. Like I move things with me. I take things with me. Um, how do you feel when some of your items become labeled as vintage? Like if you're going to put it on Facebook marketplace, um, like, I don't know, I'd see whatever, um, eBay and you're like, I have to label this as vintage.
How do you feel about that? Good. I feel like vintage has a, a, a little power, uh, you know, that adds a little value to it. So I think that's a good thing. There's a premium that gets put on there. Uh, otherwise it's just junk, right? It's just someone's wanting to clean up their trash. So I, I think vintage is a good thing. So, um, well, I wear vintage T-shirts to the gym. I was like, do some of these shirts that wear on lift and drink? Like, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I made me feel bad. So I had a bag. So like, I have a VS pink bag where I'm like, this was, I, I bought it in 2009 for like $75, not a big deal. Now it's worth 100 bucks. And I'm like, um, it's, it's a vintage bag at this point. Okay. I'm in me full city. I'm like, I'm so. I made you feel shitty. I'm so, I'm so. Like, college years are vintage.
Yeah. College years are vintage. Yeah. Yeah. I'm pretty when he graduated in 1999. We're all into shit afterwards. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Graduates, may have 99. This is great. Everything's fine. Y2K shitter. 2008 shitter. Try to get out of that. Okay. The outfit is high school. It goes in April. Imagine, imagine coming to the world in 2008. We, we had about time. No, you were. The ones with a bad time were coming into the world as COVID babies. They're the ones who really got screwed. My little nephew was born on New Year's Eve of 2019. The kid spent nine months in quarantine was out for a month that a half and it'll back into quarantine poor little shit. No, no. I'm going to give 2007, 2000, frauds with some, some grace. We didn't get a good time either coming into the world. So what did you do when you found out your stuff was vintage?
You know, I posted it and hope somebody would buy it. That's all I could do. Did you win? Go. She's still posted. Yeah, she's still posted. I'm not surprised you didn't take it down. You're like, I'm not vintage. You can go f off. And I'm just accepted it. I'm like, oh God, I'm old as fuck. I'm 40 in two years. Jesus Christ. Yeah, no, let me sell my shit for my 20s. You know, it's bad when you turn 49 and you can't wait to turn 50 so you can make ketchup contributions to your 401k. I have like a fully aroused to talk about this. Okay. I cannot wait to watch a ketchup contributions. That is quite the word. Dude, this is a retirement planning. Bright. He's aroused. Holy. Holy. We went from 6 to 12 is what we did. Yeah. Just can't wait.
You know what you're going to talk about priorities now. Priorities are big time aroused. A round of shouts. All right. Okay. Well, on that note, guess what, gang? It's time to drink. What is everyone drinking? Let's start this time with McNeil. McNeil, what do you got there? I'm going to give you some. I'll buy a shaker. I cry. Okay. Nothing there. Nothing there. Maybe you're next. I got maker's mark. This is a taste select repeat option. Date the nose. Mary the palette. Okay. So McNeil, I believe a boat guy would be a nose. So the date of the date is not a palette person from what I've heard. Okay. Whoa. Did you break? You missed. She's a swunger. Maybe broken nail. She broke a nail. Okay. Take two. That's the first on the show. Oh, and the pork pop was great. And she sticks the landing. We have to nail indentation in my hand when I missed. Okay. She pulled a carry strog. Busted the ankle on the first.
Yeah. Hit and nails it on the second one. Yeah. I have three nail marks in my hand from that. I think it was worth it. The result. But if carry struck is vintage, that haircut is vintage. A herstery. Also the door. Yeah. Oh, yeah. The best was the Bella Corolla carrying around. So yeah, after that, after that happened. Yeah. All right. On that note, Tim, I think you're going to have to go through the first. After that, after that happened. Yeah. All right. On that note, Tim, it's your turn. Katie has the lead. What do you got? I also have a maker's mark private select. This is the Fleischmann family reserve from a friend of mine who did a barrel pick for their family. Swipe it on the set. Oh, that was actually pretty good. Pretty good. I think Katie's was better though. Katie's was better. She's got the lead. I've got the mostly done from Noble Tens. The boxing barrel pick called mostly done. See what we got here. Also, pretty nice, but nowhere near good enough.
So Katie wins this. So, so far. Cheers to Katie. Ding. All right. We'll take a quick break. And then when we come back, we're going to be talking about maker's mark. A new high water mark. We'll do that in just a few. Okay, let's talk about the people that make these shows happen. First up is the Staventhief Society. Via their in-person class at Moonshine University in Louisville, Kentucky, the Staventhief Society is the place where you, a barbedon enthusiast, can expand your knowledge and emerge in an executive bourbon steward. In 2017, I completed my executive bourbon steward certification. It's the most comprehensive bourbon certification available and connects you with an expansive network of bourbon enthusiasts and professionals. Check out the full listing of in-person and online certifications and join the society today by enrolling at staventhief.com.
Speaking of executive bourbon steward certification, the ABV Barrel Shop at St. Louis, Missouri, has developed a unique partnership with the Staventhief Society to offer a preparatory class to assist you in getting your executive bourbon steward certification. This prep class costs only $25 and is available to take live or online via Zoom. Individuals of our class receive a coupon code good for 15% off your executive bourbon steward certification held in Louisville, Kentucky. This saves you almost $90. Additionally, you can collaborate with fellow attendees to split travel costs when you go to Louisville. If you are interested in signing up for the class, simply head over to ABVBARLSHOP.com and check out the classes and events page. Last but not least, we are sponsored by Neely Family Distillery. Royce Neely is the 11th generation distiller in one of America's oldest distilling families. A visit to Neely Family Distillery takes you through family history where you can see all the artifacts and newspaper clippings through the years from this family that started distilling in America after James Neely arrived from Northern Ireland in 1740. Today Royce Neely and his team are crafting some of the best spirits in America.
Their bourbon and absent offerings keep winning top honors in the spirits competitions. Recently, their absent made history as the first platinum winner in the absent category at the San Francisco Spirits Competition. Neely Family Distillery is definitely a bucket list destination if you are a bourbon fan. Learn more about their spirit offerings, visiting their facility and the awards they have collected over at NeelyFamilyDustillery.com. And now back to the show. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Okay. Okay. Any listening to the bourbon daily? Welcome back to the bourbon daily. Today we're talking about the Baker Smart. Yes, we are. So they have the most barrels in the history of the company laying down and resting.
17.1 million. And again, this is sign of the time. This is what's going on in the bourbon industry. We see that they are struggling with extra inventory and that kind of seems to be mostly across the board that the industry is struggling. And we're seeing them do more releases and things like that. I saw they just came out with something this week, one of their products. And more of it released than never. And I think that's just going to be the kind of stuff that we see. More unique releases, more more bottles of it available. And we as bourbon fans can think of things are terrible or we can put on the other set of glasses and be like, oh, things are great. We can actually get a release from them. We have an opportunity to buy one and they're coming out with more creative things. So it could be a happy time or a sad time depending on how you look at it. What do you guys think? I mean, I think both can be true. Like you can go get it and then be like, oh, yeah, things are good.
If you're in accounting at these firms or in sales at these firms, you're jumping out the window. But I will remind you you were overpaid during the boom and mean reversion is vicious. But I do think you're going to find more higher proof releases because they just need to get rid of the distillate. I think at some point in time they got a sell and you may get some higher age statements. I think they may not do. I think you see more cast strength. Makers mark on the shelf than you would normally see standard makers mark, which would not necessarily be a bad thing. Right. Right. That's a really smart deduction. I agree. That's, that's good to him. Oh, yeah, like a Tim. Every once in a while he comes up with a good one. That's what he can do. I have been called one of the smartest personalities on the bourbon daily by a fan before. One fan. I don't think what your wife does. You might face. She really counts. Right. Right. Yeah. Yeah. His wife. His biggest fan. So, yes. My daughter. My daughter. Okay. Mixed. Oh, I know it was not.
It was actually summoning the barrel shop came up to me in an event and said, I think you're the, you have the most astute, most complete thoughts and really thoughtful things thinking outside the box of all the personalities. And I said, wow, that's humbly. I don't know what to say about that. But thank you. I need to threaten them. Who was that? Right. Somebody was been paid the full of my ego and see what he do. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's interesting. It was Steincamp. So, just see it up. Oh, never mind, I don't care. Steincamp. Yeah. They knew put on our p-face, not our poofy. So, that's a good sign. Oh, my God. Yeah. We can't be sure. I'm just wondering. I do kind of like the amount of barrels they've got. It's a little bit of the big dick energy coming in. They're like, we are the market. We don't care the market. We are the market. Right. We've got father-esque. Well, there's something to say about the companies who keep producing, they will rebound. If there's a rebound or there's a change, they have product. Right.
When this does change, there are going to be only ones that may have products and people gravitate to it again. It'll research the brand. Especially that all being on shore here, too. And they are of the caliber that they have the money that they can put into it and do that and take that bet. And even if we're not right, we'll still figure it out and we're not going to go wonder. We'll still be fine. We're not going to get the profit. We're hoping to get, but if they're right, they will seriously capitalize on that. Yeah. Well, think about it. The majority of this production that's out there was built for the international markets. That's where the growth was going, faster growth. And now that that being disrupted, and who knows if you have demand destruction, if there's demand destruction, which I would argue that probably is on American product right now in some of these markets, then that's an issue. So it's going to go someplace and the better place to do it is to put in existing dollars and sell it here. Yeah. Yeah. So I think there's definitely a lot of that going on at the moment.
And like I said, from a bourbon fan perspective, I think it's a great time. It's a great time to be around. Yeah. I think people are being a lot more selective and a lot more smart. And you know, makers being part of a large company that may or may not have the brand following because they're just a big company and people don't feel they don't care. There's always been that family mindset about makers mark up all the larger companies, the portfolios. They still reach out. Now, maybe we'll see Ambassador gifts getting a little bit better. What was the ambassador gift last year? Whether you're before or the year before that. Exactly. I think it's like a QR code at one time for like a movie streaming. Right. It was nothing. But remember back in the day? The last piece of one that I liked was the puzzle. Yeah. They used to have some great ones back in the day. But it just grew to such enormous proportions. I mean, I can't imagine what that program cost. Oh, God. Blue out. Absolutely blue out. Yeah. For sure. I still put up the sweaters on the bottles and the scarves and the mistletoe on the bottle next and stuff. Like I put them up every year. And those are the days when it was something.
But we will come back to those days because we'll see. But those were those were the start of the emerging growth time. And now we're in a mature market. We'll see what happens. Yeah. But I think it's for for a bourbon consumer. You can't find a better time right now. Yeah. On that note, we're going to wrap this one up. As we always do, Mcnew mayor McTath be back. She was in shape where she could have just gone to bed too. So we'll see. Katie will start with you working people find you. You can find me over on Instagram at Katie proof. Tim.
