All right, y'all, let's get to it. So the Denver Nuggets, they got a very, very impressive win, a very, very impressive win versus the Portland Trailblazers. That was a great win. Now, here's why. It's not because they were playing the Trailblazers. It's not because the Blazers are world beaters.

3:02But what it is is that the Nuggets show that when they have all their guys, there are multiple ways they can beat you. There are multiple ways that you have to defend them. And it needs to be talked about, y'all. This year, 237 minutes now, including last night's game, the Denver Nuggets starting five has a plus 15.9 net rating. Christian Brown, Cam Johnson, Jamal Murray, Aaron Gordon, and Nikola Yokich. This year, when they play Cam Johnson, when Peyton Watson, with Spencer Jones, with Jamal Murray, with Yokich, a plus 20.7 net rating. Now, what I love to see is that this team, this year, when they been able to put Aaron Gordon and Nikola Yokich and Jamal Murray on the floor, those are the three most important players. They have a plus 23 net rating with a 134 offensive rating and a 110.9 defensive rating. That is absolutely good enough.

4:03And it is not an accident. It is not an accident that when you put those three together, there's so much versatility. There's so many things that they do well in so many ways, they complement one another. And in this game, y'all, this was a terrific game of a lot of different things happening at once. Yokich yesterday in just three quarters, recorded his 85th career triple double in three quarters. Through three quarters in a game, 85, that's the most sense to tracking Aaron started. Nikola Yokich yesterday had 22 points, 14 rebounds, 14 assists, three stocks. He was not shooting super well from three, but he got him up. They were good looks. That's something he has to continue to refine as we get closer and closer to the playoffs. But Yokich was spectacular yesterday. He had a great game yesterday. He was extremely active, extremely engaged, a playmaking was great. And again, had the game called for this absolutely felt like a 30-2010 game for Nikola Yokich. He's been phenomenal.

5:04He's had a phenomenal year this year. I know people have been obviously really hard on them as I have, but look, man, he's still having like, I think at least the first or second best season in the NBA this year. He's been great. Obviously, a lot of up and down to turnovers, the mishots, like, you know, coming back for the injury, he's definitely been a journey for him. But what I do like is that the more and more further away he gets away from that, and I think you see the normalcy of what Yokich is doing. And like I said yesterday, if you watched that game, man, he had 22, 13 and 13 in three quarters and was like a plus 17 into the game on a plus 19, just a spectacular game from Joker. Cam Johnson, man, I just continue to tell people like, I know that the narrative around Cam Johnson is just, I think it's rooted in a lot of stuff that was happening with Michael Porter Jr. early in the year and the points and stuff that he was scoring and all that kind of stuff. But if you look at what Cam has been doing lately, by he's been hooping for this team.

6:09And I put this out on Twitter yesterday, because I think it's important to note when people are doing things that are very special and they're fulfilling their roles on the roster. Y'all, last seven games, Cam Johnson's averaging 16.1 points per game, 3.1 rebounds, 2.4 rebounds in 1.1 steals. He's shooting 57% from three, 62% from two, 80% from the freezer lot, a 75.7 true shooting. And in seven games, the nuggets have won the Cam Johnson minutes by 88 points, seven games, 88 points. And what I love to see is that Cam is just playing more and more and more aggressive with this roster. And if you watch him play yesterday, he hit two massively deep, pull up three pointers yesterday, massively deep, pull up three pointers. And when he's engaged and he's playing confident and he's moving, it's just the level of basketball

7:09that he's able to play just from a intelligence standpoint. It makes a huge difference for this team. Like Cam Johnson was just having his way, man. Like in the first quarter, he was going crazy. Y'all could've found him in the corner with, it was 23-21 with 6-38 left. Y'all could've found a nice skip pass through the corner when he was back and down to mighty Camara, passed through to defense and Cam was able to just to absolutely nail to three. And what I love about what Cam does and why I think he's so important for this roster, especially as they move in the playoff time and get ready to use him in a lot of like very unique ways. He's good enough to wear the nuggets defensively. We Cam on the floor, they have an actual identity. They have an identity and he's really good as a switch defender. He gets engaged like when it comes to chasing on pick and rolls and D.H.O.'s and all that kind of stuff. He just did a really, really, really consistently good floor player defensively.

8:10And so much of this with Denver is like, can they just find players that can do things like that where we just need you to be able to do a job. And then when you do that job, can you make sure you're hitting shots offensively, can you move off the ball, can you dribble? But on the other side of that defensively, hey, can we put you on somebody and then trust that you're at least going to be able to hold up defensively to a degree? And he's been doing a really good job as of late, especially as a score, just the confidence that he's playing with. Again, he's really changed just how good this team ceiling is. And even in the Laker game that they lost, like, Cam Johnson was a clear plus. They give us like a plus 15 in the game that they lost. He just does a lot of smart things. And yesterday, his active hands, and he just did a lot of great things yesterday. Also yesterday, man, Aaron Gordon continues to look good. He had 12 points, four assists, three rebounds. He didn't have to do a whole lot. Again, only 28 minutes. They're definitely low managing. It's minutes making sure that they're being smart with him.

9:13And he is easily the third most important third best nugget moving forward into the playoffs. But one of the things that he's going to be great with this year is that if teams are going to load up on Jamal Murray, especially if they're going to load up on the pick and roll with Yokech and Murray, then hey, let's go ahead and put HG off the ball or on the ball rather as the screener. Let's put Yokech in the corner. Let's put him somewhere else. Let's put Yokech in the dunker spot. Because what we're going to do is now we're going to basically take away your opportunity to send three at the pick and roll. And we're going to get Yokech out of the action altogether. And then that way we can actually use our floor spacing and it even better way. And AGF today in the second quarter with about 720 left, you know, he got a wide open three pointer off of Jamal Murray play where Jamal denied the screen, was able to dive to the basket, Robert Williams was late getting out and gave like a really far out contest. And it wasn't good enough. And so he was able to finish that job. And obviously to start the third quarter, he got his mismatch down low on Sasoko and

10:14was able to finish the play with the dunk. He had another play where they ran a very aggressive, they ran a double on Yokech and Aaron Gordon was in transition and was able to hit the pull up three in transition. Again, like this skill set that he has, it's just changes what this team is able to do and how good they're able to be and the floor they're able to get to. And I love how they're spacing this out and defensively. There's some stuff I want to talk about yesterday too that I think really is something to look forward to for the playoff run because I think when they're loading up on some of these guards they're covering like there's some things that they showed yesterday where it's like, hmm, I can see that working out in the long term and it actually gives them some more viability in the future. You know, like I said, AG was great yesterday Christian Brown yesterday at 15.6 rebounds and two assists. He's easy when they're transition players in the NBA. He had a lot of really good moments on the other side. We're going to talk about more of this game, some of the adjustments they made defensively as the game went, how they held the Portland Trail leaders to just 43 points in the second

So the Denver Nuggets yesterday, they got a very impressive win.

14:21Like I said, Christian Brown, 15.6 rebounds and two assists. He continues to get better and better and better in transition. One of the things I love about Christian, is that Christian, the healthier, single injury, that explosion is getting back and he looks really good in attacking the room and dunking the ball and laying in the ball up. That Christian is a phenomenal all ball threat when it comes to diving towards the basket. And I love yesterday that even though he didn't hit a lot, he had won that when he does get to the three point line ads of yesterday, he's just trying to finish the shot and put the ball into the hole because what Christian is going to have to do when they get closer to playoff time when they're playing versus the early teams. The only way to slow Denver down for a lot of these teams is saying, hey, who's the worst shooter on the floor? Let's make sure that guy has the ball in Christian. Right now, he's the only person that teams are like, all right, we'll give up a Christian

15:21Brown three. It's a yoke tree for right now as he's kind of coming back from this groove and shooting 31% from three since he's been back from the injury. But Christian is the one and the, I think the more confident he gets, the better he's going to get. Jamal and Mary had 22.7 assists and two rebounds yesterday. That's awesome. Blager fans online on Twitter yesterday. Now we're just noting that Jamal and Mary has been kicking our tail for 10 years. And in that third quarter, Jamal and Mary had 13 points and he was getting to it versus whoever was on the floor. He continues to have an all in B.A. year. Jim Hardaway Jr. became, so Michael Porter Jr. had 203s that he made a couple years ago. This is the first time in nugget history where two players have both made over 200 threes in a year. Jamal Burgers recently did it and adds up yesterday, Tim Hardaway Jr. joined the 200 May three club for a veteran minimum. He's been incredible for this team all year. They, he's legitimately won the basketball games and Tim Hardaway Jr. is going to help them

16:24win playoff series this year. That's how good he is. He is an excellent, excellent, excellent release valve for this roster. Peyton Watson made his day debut since February 4th, his first game since the nick game. And he has 16, 14 points, six rebounds, three assists. Now Peyton definitely looked a little rusty on a few plays that he had, but there was a stretch all in the four quarter where Peyton just kept making play after play after play in the short role. He had a couple of goals in the game. On Yokech on a great, great cut to the basket where Yokech was giving the ball up on a D.H.O. Peyton got both Robert Williams and I think it was Chris Murray chasing him to the rim. Peyton didn't force the shot through it over his head to Nikola Yokech for the dunk. It was a great play. He had another really great assist on a short role where he where he cut rather and he found Bruce Brown in the corner right in front of the Portland bench for like a spinning pass that led to a three. Now he missed Spencer Jones on one. That was a blatant one that Spencer could have absolutely nailed a three from the right

17:28corner. But what you love about Peyton is that he's so intelligent. He's so smart that he's learning more and more how to use his body to his advantage. He made some really great defensive plays yesterday and so much so that I noted them in my game notes from yesterday. There was a play in particular where there were the three play stretch in the four quarter where Spencer Jones got a strip on Drew Holiday that led that Bruce Brown got a steel lawn that led through a Jamal Murray make made basket the very next possession Peyton Watson got a great weak side block that led out to a Bruce right out in a layup. And then the next possession right after that which led to a kill and a kill in NBA terms is when you get three straight stops defensively is kill, kill, kill, kill. The last play Peyton Watson was guarding Denny Advia and Denny was hunting Jamal Murray and Denny got Jamal and tried to get inside of him. What Peyton did he didn't give up on the play. He kept going with Denny Denny then tried the drive Peyton put his hands up.

18:29Denny to ride a contact into his chest but didn't foul him gave up ground. Denny threw up some nonsense and then it led to a Spencer Jones alley you pass from Jamal Murray and you just see like Peyton offensively that middle of the floor area. He's actually really good. He had a bailout layup in the first quarter right before the quarter ended where you know he was in a situation where he was dribbling, lost control to ball off a DHO, was able to drive past two Portland Trailbladers for a layup. That kind of stuff matters because you need players and Bruce Brown is actually done this lately as well. You need players that when the options are limited and when the play breaks down, outside of Yokech and outside of Jamal, do you have players on the roster that can get to it and get to a spot and get a bucket. And Peyton Watson did that yesterday. He had 13 shots yesterday. He was second on the team and shot attempts. He's a really good player and I can't wait for him to be a part of the Denver Nuggets future going for. He's an incredible player. Bruce Brown, another really good game. He had 13 points, five of eight from the field, one of two from three, two of two from

19:29the fruit and line. Also had three rebounds like Bruce has been playing his best stretcher basketball y'all. He really has. And Bruce Brown in the last 10 games y'all, it's averaging eight points, three rebounds and a two assist, but he's shooting 49% from the field and 50% from three and 79% from the fruit and line. Now, why is that important? Well, let me tell you why because Bruce with this team in particular, he plays point guard, he plays small board and he plays power board. But the thing is teams are going to make him, as they did in 2023, Bruce, we're going to load up and we're going to slam our defense. You're going to have to beat us in some of these spots, very similar to Josh Hart with the New York Knicks. And Bruce in the last 15 games y'all, he's making teams pay, he's shooting 44% from three in the last 15 games. Bruce Brown in the last 20 games now, he's shooting 44% from three in the last 20 games. Let me see if this goes even further in the last 30 games for Bruce Brown.

20:33He's shooting 44.6% from three. Yeah, Lee. Matter of fact, let me check real quick. Since January 1st, the turn of the year is Bruce Brown doing the thing again. Bruce Brown's in January 1st, eight rebounds, eight points, three rebounds and two assists in 39 games, he's shooting 41% from three since January 1st, while like I said, being a very, very, very key defender for this roster. That is excellent. That is excellent. And especially as they're playing smaller because they want to switch more and we'll talk about that in the other side. No vow. That is a really significant development. That means a lot for him and his playoff liability. On the other side, how about you? It's not being in line up. What I thought about that, the nine man rotation, it seems to be the nine man playoff rotation and who's going to be a part of that going forward. And also some things that I think David Adam did yesterday that hopefully you're assigned in the future that the Nuggets defense can compete.

We're back for the final segment here locked on nugget shout out to you all. So much for being here with us every single day. We're talking about the different nuggets. We're talking about Jonas balance units no longer being in the line of ads of late and at least as of yesterday now. This is what I'll say. I have been saying for the past few games that Jonas balance units hasn't been a necessary player and one of the reasons is if you look at who they played in particular. The OKC game was the disaster. The LA Clippers game was whatever the feeling game. It was good. But if you look at the game script and look at who they've been running into the nuggets

24:43have just been playing opponents that are not built for Jonas balance units. And he's legitimately not by fault of his own. It's just by nature of the foot speed issues by nature to fact that he's playing in line up that need his more assistance where he needs to help defensively, but he can't. They need to help him. But Toronto, you know, that just wasn't like they wanted to decide if they wanted to go with Spencer Jones, they played versus LA, they played versus San Antonio, they played versus Oklahoma City like San Antonio, that like, you know, we'll see what happened with Luke Cornett. That might be a series. He would need to be playing in Houston, but Oklahoma City, not the New York Knicks. Yeah, possibly, especially with Mitchell Robinson. But I think the thing with him is going to be, it's going to have to be something that's based on deployment of nest necessity. They have to have somebody that needs to rebound, somebody needs to be an outlet scored in the post. That's when he's going to play. I think yesterday, David Adam was trying something new, even versus Robert Williams,

25:45which is like an ideal matchup for Jonas to play in. The nuggets, they said that we're going to come out with Jamal Murray, Bruce Brown, Peyton Watson, Tim Hardaway Jr. in Spencer Jones. And what we're going to do, we're going to switch everything, we're going to have athletes on the floor, we're going to have a link on the floor, and we're going to say, go get it. And we're going to build our offense in those second units with Jamal Murray, Peyton Watson and Tim Hardaway Jr. We got two people, three people that can beat you off the dribble technically, two people that can beat you off the dribble with a jumper, another person that can beat you off the dribble with a drive, kick out, finish or hit you in mid-range or floaters sometimes and Peyton Watson. And then with Spencer Jones, hey, we're playing five out. If you help too much on the inside on a driver, we're going to put Bruce Brown, Spencer Jones, we're going to put you in the corners and dare you to hit these shots and they have. And Bruce, again, to his credit, in the last few games, when Bruce has had to bail out the offense with the drive and finish, he's done it. He had a great finish over Robert Williams yesterday, that was just like, Bruce just playing

26:49out of his mind right now. So I do love that the nuggets are finding ways and David Adamin has adjusted his philosophy by saying, hey, we're not going to force the issue. We're going to put three ball handlers, let's say four, Bruce, Murray, Watson and THA, all ranging in different abilities. We're going to put four ball handlers out there. Everybody can shoot, everybody can dribble except for Spencer. And we're going to just trust that Spencer. You're going to go be six, seven, 225 pounds, be physical in the pain, paid Watson, go help him, be long, be athletic and go get to it. Now the nine man rotation that they played yesterday, I think is the nine man rotation they're going to run with, come play all time, Jamal Mary, Christian Brown, Cam Johnson, Aaron Gordon, Nicolay Ocas, that's the starting five. Next up, Jamal, it's going to be with when we would Jamal. The Bruce Brown, Tim Hardaway Jr., with Peyton Watson, with Spencer Jones, that's their nine.

27:49I think the players that are added in there based on matchups and based on what they need are going to be Julian Strathur, Jonas Valentinus. They don't trust Dignagee. I think if they played OKC in the second round or conference finals, depending on what the seating is, I would be more willing to play Dignagee in those matchups because you're going to need size and rebounding and defense in those matchups, especially if they're going to start shade the second quarter. I think what Dindward Nuggets are, and I know they noticed that they track more data than even I do. The minutes they lose at the top of the second quarter are game changing to what happens in the fourth because when they are up to three, four, five, six, and then Yokehitz leaves the game, and then they are losing when Yokehitz goes back, that changes the complexion of the game because if they could just get the top of the second quarter fixed where

28:50their defense falls apart and their offense is like not existed, I think that's going to be the difference between them getting to the NBA finals and losing. Those minutes at the top of the second quarter and the top of the fourth. If you even ask me, come play off time, hey, Bruce Brown, Jamal Murray, Cam Johnson, Peyton Watson, Spencer Jones, you might have to throw three starters at it, maybe even Aaron Gorton, it might need to be Aaron Gordon, Spencer Jones, Peyton Watson with Jamal Murray and Bruce Brown. It might need to be something like that. You have to have players that can offset the fact that Luca and LeBron and Austin Reeves or SGA, Dub, Chat Heart or Wimbee plus whoever, it's going to be at the top of that second quarter and you have to be able to offset what you're seeing on the other side of the basketball

29:53and that just might mean throwing hundreds of billions of dollars at the second quarter at the top and the fourth quarter at the top. Also I want to note this, one thing that Denver did yesterday that I really liked is that when they were guarding Denny Advia who played a good game yesterday but he was a teamwork minus 24 because they were losing, he wasn't doing a lot defensively and they were getting shredded obviously, but one thing they did yesterday that I actually want to give them credit for is that at some point, Denny like a lot of bodies and so what was happening is is that when they started trying to ISO Jamal Murray, they were traditional help but then they would at least keep bodies attached that way Denny would just consistently try to see bodies and rotation and so if something else they did because Donovan Klingin made four threes in the first quarter, it didn't make a three rest of the game. Those four threes in the first quarter were the most amount of threes that Donovan Klingin

30:57has made in any game this year, he has not made four threes in any game this year. So whatever, that's fine, that was the defensive cause and it worked statistically because that's not something that he's done all year, he's shooting 33% from three but what happened is they started sending help and showing with Christian Brown. Now Yokec could execute this a little better because Denny ends again in a wide open three on one of these that he ends up missing but what they did was they started showing and they didn't just say, Hey, Denny, Sasoko, you're going to have to beat us weak side. But one of the things they did is that they started switching, if you're running a pick and roll on Jamal with Denny, then what we're going to do is we're going to send an additional defender to the other side of the basketball. So unless just Cam Johnson acting in the trail position, then we're going to send an extra defender and then we're going to rotate underneath that to try to see if we can help our defense as much as possible. And I really liked it because what the nuggets are going to have to do is they're shrinking

31:57the floor versus the great wings and great guards. They're going to have to be able to say, Hey, we're going to load up, but we're going to load up and we're not going to overhelp off a three point shooter because in the first quarter, they did that a lot. They gave up 40 points in the first quarter and 43 points in the entire second half. And part because when they overhelp on drives, it just doesn't make sense. Just give the two up, giving a two up and especially giving a two up on a pull up as opposed to giving up a open three pointer. It's not even a question. For me, David Adam needs to go into these series versus whoever and say, Hey, if you're going to try to beat us one on one in isolation, beat us one on one in isolation, the whole game, the whole game, instead of over helping. And then now you're like letting role players get streaky and get hotter than the other. And now again, that's very simplistic. I realized there's so many other factors to that. But if you're just going to ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, at the top of the key, then cool. Go ahead and beat us that way.

32:57But all in all, Peyton Watson showed his value because defense and offense, he does so many things for this team, give some so much versatility. The nine man rotation that I have is elite. There's an elite nine men rotation plus Julian Strathur, plus Jonas Valentinus in my wild is dream, maybe Zignaji for defense, but they have their guys, man, when the nuggets are healthy, they are absolutely in the lead basketball team. I think one of the top two teams in the NBA, maybe three. They just have to be able to get their guys healthy, stay healthy and develop a rhythm with each other.
