Texas vs. Ohio State Prediction: Top 5 Showdown In Austin

1:01The game was kind of a dud. I've seen it ago, so I feel like both of these teams have come a long way since then. So two of the best quarterbacks in the country just studs all over the field wide receiver defense you name it. I think this is going to be an awesome game, awesome environment, all that stuff. The game of the week for week two. I'm talking about two of the top five quarterbacks in college football. Two of the top two wide receivers in college football. And two teams that have the exact same goal in college football. And here, here is my hope. I have forever been an anti-expanding the playoffs guy. I didn't really like it going to four. I damn sure didn't like it going to 12. I am to going to 24. If we get this game on Labor Day weekend or a game of this ilk every single year

2:01because this past weekend with the exception of one final tackle in over. And Michigan getting bailed out by a craft ass call. And the beauty of the second half of Louisville Ole Miss. Yes, football was back. But football was boring. And this is the one college weekend that you have the opportunity that you don't have in FL dominating the rankings, the ratings. So lean into this. Lean into week one. Hell, engineer a big 10 SEC challenge where the pro- you just know the office every other year. You flip home and whatever and you flip home and you flip home and whatever and you figure it out. I mean, there are smart people doing analytics that Chris Lee could figure this out with like 14 minutes and two slide rules. But one plays one

3:03from the previous year and 16 plays 16. And then you just slide them all down. And then you won't talk about who's better. Give me the results of that. Yeah, you mentioned the first time in the game. I know you're not going to have teams are nervous about playing these match up. And boy, I know people have made a lot of the extra margin for error with the playoff. But you look at both these team schedules and we saw it bear out with Texas last year. This year the long horns have four road games against ranked teams in the SEC. That's Tennessee LSU, Missouri, and A&M. And I think that's a very stupid point. Uh, two tall bill of Jones. I think the. And I think honestly. Not unlike what we saw last night that you guys talked about so brilliantly in the second half.

4:03There's because I think Louisville is a hell lot better than we thought. Louisville is a lot better than the two tall bill of Jones. I think the. And I think that's a lot better than we thought. Louisville may be that rare team that was preseason 24 lost its opener. And now that in the first week of the AP poll they're 19. They got the schedule for. But this could be this could be the. Reincarnation of Notre Dame Miami. That not with those two schedules even as talented and high profiles as well as the team's. And, and who gets in the winner of Saturday, right? I'm not going to go as far as to say that this is an elimination game. Uh, but. I mean, it's gotta be as close as possible to it this earlier this season, just with the schedule that Billy just outlined. So, um, I wish more teams will do

5:03this like these these big time home and home games. You mentioned the SEC Big 10 challenge. I do think we're about to come upon a world where that's. The norm in football. If they can get Hollywood some others and really brown going in this one. This offense. Really tough to stop in any game, particularly in this one. Is that fair? I think that's completely fair, Billy. And I think that's. I think Texas is going to need to embrace. Being comfortable. In 45 35 games. Because. Look, we all know Colin Simmons is going to be. Texas, this Texas team could be what last year's Ohio state team was. In terms of having Ohio state had what a record setting for of the first 12 picks a year ago. Uh, last time. Texas has that with the tackle with orange with cam and with Colin Simmons. But you're 100% right.

8:03That that smothers in brown. Both those guys need north of 50. Because that Ohio state front seven. Is so dynamic. That. I don't I don't I don't think either side. Can truly. Ask their quarterback Graham. All right, go throw for 350 and we win. I mean, this is going to have to be. Some offensively complimentary. Type of approach, even with the dudes on the perimeter. I would agree with that. Just looking at the numbers like smothers and brown brown actually had more carries than smothers. In week one for Texas and then. Um, I think that's. I think that's. I think that's. I think that's. I think that's. I think that's. I think that's. That's. Uh, I'm a high school but okay, four protects, and then. Want to j's favorite players of all time? 9:04But. Ten like, uh, your point, jab. If two quarterbacks we're going to throw for 350 like these are two, they can certainly do it, but I agree with, I agree with you. Like I think. a play callers, you're going to do their best to try to make it as balanced as possible. Is this billy? Is this is easy? Can spent especially in college football where sacks go against rushing yards, which puzzles me to the end of the earth. But is this is easy as the old football coachism that the team that runs for the most yards wins? I think if there's a huge disparity, absolutely, because I think what that's going to open up, especially with with the guys that are calling plays who were both really good at this. Like, man, if you can get the opposing team with the weapons you have at receiver to have to respect the running game, that's when you can get those one-on-one matchups

10:06down the field. And I think Texas is is a lot bigger. This was something they loaded up on in the portal. And when you have edge players like they do, you got to make sure though that you're getting your stops on first and second down to give those guys a chance to tee off. And Ohio states offensive line this year. I mean, they're always good, but this year they are good. Like that to me, can Texas win on first and second down? Because that's when you give your home run hitters a chance to swing away on third down. Graham, I want to ask you this. This is a show me moment for Sarc. And he's like one in nine in show me moments. What's the one? What's the one that we did? Alabama. With him up. Okay. With Quinn years. That's big. That's big 12 days, right? This does feel big for Sarc, which is why I think the fact that this game is in Austin

11:09is big for Texas. I mean, I'll ask you like, is there anything Sarc can do in this game one way or the other that can change your opinion of him? Yes. I mean, at least in some regards, it can change my opinion if he wins because this is, this is, I mean, we all know what is coming in 13 days. And that's Lane returning to Oxford. But in terms of magnitude of teams, programs, profile and projectivity, this is the biggest regular season game of the season. This is team two of the SEC by almost all accounts against probably team one in the big 10 by most accounts in terms of talent. And that that tug of war, that narrative not only spins out of beyond what these two teams play, but how the conferences beat chests, how the conferences

12:14politic come December. I mean, this, this is, look, it's not a natty. It's not even a conference title game. This may be as big a game as Sarc is coached and at least certainly at Texas. And up until now, he's crapped his pants and just about all of them. And it doesn't matter how it look. If you look, we all agree that last year's 14-7 really disappointed. But if he wins it 14-10 and it's just his boringer game, at least the son of a gun won it. Yeah. Who do you trust more? You trust Sarc, Ryan Day, Arch, Julian, Sayon? Like, who do you guys trust more in this game? Man, that's a great question. Billy, go ahead. Can I just trust Bill and say bonos? I'm going to say, I think on a neutral field, it's Ryan Day.

13:15I do kind of think though, just this game being at home. I don't know. I think I do trust, trust Sarc to get the job done for this one. We can get into picks here in a minute. If you were to just ask me blanket, I'd say Ryan Day, on this particular occasion though, with the game in Austin, I don't know that I necessarily feel that way. I'm going to, and not to tip my cards here on the pick. I trust. They've struggled in these regular season road games of Ohio State. Yes, they have. I trust. I don't trust either head coach. I don't know. I think I could rattle off four or five guys. Look, man, you can be an elite college football coach in terms of success and pay and all those other things without being an elite head coach, without being an elite football coach because it's talent acquisition. It's raising money. It is managing a program. You're CEO of a nine 10 figure operation.

14:18But I don't know how much I trust either of those guys in moments like this. In case in point, did you all see the social media thing that went viral on Sarc Asian telling that dude to get his bleeping hands off of him and don't ever bleep and touch me again as they were waiting to run out on the field against Texas State? I mean, did he do it again? I know he did it like three years ago. Did he do it again? Well, I may have been duped in. I may have been duped. I mean, like he definitely did it, but I'm pretty sure that was like three years ago. I trust because it's such a great question. I want to answer. I trust Arch. I trust Arch's growth and I trust Arch's motivation because I think that six week spiral really was springboarded by a really bad performance until the last drive in Columbus a year ago. So I know Texas has a bunch of big games. This one feels a little personal to me if I had to guess for Arch.

15:26Yeah, I guess I got one other wrinkle before we get into the pigs. Arthur Smith brought in as the offensive coordinator for Ohio State who, you know, I think particularly during the Derek Henry A.J. Brown days for the Titans was, I mean, unbelievable. Now he had he had the horses, but but kind of struggled as a head coach. We've seen NFL play callers come down to college. Sometimes it's unbridled success. Other times it feels like they don't really know how to adjust. Where do you kind of think about that higher and how do you think about this in terms of this being his first big time game calling plays at the college level? Can you ask me when we're live? What calls like that's such a great question. We definitely need to do this game together alive. Yeah. I don't know. Like it worked with Chip Kelly, right? I mean, he poor laid this to an NFL gig and then later got fired by the Raiders mid season. So like to me, this is so fascinating.

16:33Just being close to the Memphis market, like the Smith family, like everybody's like very, very aware of them and like his connections to the state of Tennessee and with the Titans and everything. But to me, like this is the first time that Arthur Smith has had this many toys to work with and like the majority of the time Ohio State takes the fill, like they're going to have the most talent. So I'm curious to see how he uses, you know, some of these targets that he has, like Jeremiah Smith, like Bo Jackson. Great question. I don't know if I have the answer for it. And I know that's like bad pod and all this stuff. But like we're getting, we're going to find out more on this on Saturday night for sure. One, I think it's a brilliant hire to bring Arthur Smith. And that's less about his pedigree because when your offensive coordinator's dad's a billionaire and you come up a little short

17:34in your NIL money, I mean can't you just call a staff meeting and say hey Arthur, get Fred on the flipping phone because we need about 20 million to complete the roster. Okay, no problem. But I don't know how difficult this really has to be because Jeremiah Smith is maybe the single most dynamic college wide receiver that I have seen since Calvin Johnson at Georgia Tech. I mean, dude's going to think about all of the dudes who have been at Ohio State running patterns, going all the way back in your memory back to the Joey Gallows of the world. Chris Carter. Chris Carter, the litany of first and second round picks of the last half decade. And Jeremiah Smith about to reset record books in three years there. I mean, this is not, you've got an accurate quarterback in Julian Sain. And you've got

18:41the best non-quarterback draft prospect since probably endowment can sue. And just figure out a way to, if you're the OC, play one. Bo Jackson will go 21 power, 21 power. Bo Jackson at Rygar. Play two. Jeremiah Smith, whatever the hell he wants. Play three. We'll go 28 tall sweep, 28 tall sweep. Play four. Jeremiah Smith, whatever the hell he wants. And you make certain Texas has to double that, dude. And then you get to play 10 on nine. Yeah, we'll see how this bears out. I'm certainly excited. Stay tuned all week. A Fandall sportsbook. Any numbers jump at you as a play. And then how do you see this one? How do you see this one looking on Saturday? Yeah, I'm happy to. I think Texas wins a football game. So I would lay the number. I am more comfortable as long as it's under two because I don't know the talents and the respect we built. We've all given both sides of this of these rosters. Over time would not surprise me. So if it's under two, that's a big deal. If you get into overtime where you get in beyond the first and couple periods where then you're now talking about conversions. I just think I think

20:56arch is going to have a Heisman. Everybody expected arch to lead the coronation a year ago. His demeanor, his persona, he now feels like a manning as opposed to a year ago. He was just the next in their lineage. So if I'm going to bet this game and I'm probably not because there are a lot of bets on this board that I like. I know you all previewed some of them. I love Missouri to beat the J out of the Hawks. If I'm going to bet this game, I would probably go over 48 and a half. Really? I would because I think there's just too much explosiveness from perimeter dudes. When you talk Smith and Coleman and Brown and Smothers and Jackson and I think everything regresses

22:00to the middle and I think this numbers a little deflated because of what we saw last year. I don't think Texas's defense is as complete as it was a year ago. I don't know where Ohio State is in the secondary which kind of translates into. Cam Coleman, are you ready for your close-up, brother? I definitely think we get way more points in this one than that meeting a season ago. Mainly just because these quarterbacks think of how much these quarterbacks have grown from when they got their starts in this match-up a season ago. So I think we'll see way more points. I think this is going to be an awesome game. Like fourth quarter, down to the wire, potentially whoever has the football last. I'm picking Texas to win a nail-biter.
