All right. More importantly than that, listen, there's a lot going out with the bears and the stadium and they're moving closer. So we wanted to get somebody who's in the middle of it and state representative of state representative, Can Buckner is in the thick of it. He was very much involved in the Cubs deal. One wriggly field got renovated. Brex talks about that with him coming up here and progress is being made and momentum

5:09is real. But he also lays out the significant challenges that are still there. So this conversation I think is fantastic. At least I enjoyed it a lot. I feel more updated. I hopefully you will as well and we'll react to it afterwards with you in the chat and see where you guys are at. But let's get him in here. State representative, Can Buckner a little bit earlier today. And as promised, as we continue to move left, right down, which way with the stadium, we are bringing in state representative, Can Buckner to have the conversation here. Can, but first of all, I really appreciate you making time and the battle that you are in my friend. Can you maybe just jump off right there like, where in your mind do things stand right now? Try to get Bears fans up to speed as to where things are on opening day baseball 2026. So where we started in this Bears stadium conversation is we started in a mess, right? And I say it was a mess because there was a lot of flip flopping, a lot of misinformation,

6:11a lot of friction between all parties involved. I think we went from mess to movement as we began to sit down and have conversations with some specificity into hammer out details. We've gone from movement to momentum, which is where I think we are now moving in the right direction on a constant and consistent basis. And now we're somewhere between what I've called momentum and maturity, maturity is when this thing is done. And we have a stable deal on the table. We have had extremely fruitful conversations, and I think we're really close to getting something done that will not be today, but I don't want folks to think that the lack of a vote in Springfield today means that we're not moving in the right direction. We're talking to the Bears every single day, and I think they will be able to land somewhere here very, very shortly. So your sense, listening to that is that the Bears do indeed want to stay in Illinois if they had their druthers? I think it's very clear, I think, you know, they obviously flirted with Indiana because it made sense from them, from a leverage standpoint, from a negotiation standpoint.

7:13In fact, if I'm being completely transparent, I'm surprised it took them this long to make that threat. You know, if you look at some of the other Chicago playbooks from the past, that was something that usually happens pretty early in the conversation, right? But they did, and I think it's very clear that they're not only, as their fan base here, but their value is tied to the state. Their family history is tied to the state with the Bears starting down here in East Central Illinois, where I'm at right now in Springfield, but in Decay, Illinois, just a few miles of the road, leaving for Indiana would be a huge blow, and I just don't see it happening, but I do think it's becoming more and more clear that this is where they want to and need to be. So it's funny that you say that at the start, they're like, hi, I'm surprised you didn't do this earlier because I was sitting there in this chair, dude, you want to make progress? You got to take the gloves off, bring, the Metro goes to Kenosha, you know, Gary was a thing back in the day, that's how you're going to, you want to move this along, this is how you got to do it. And you, I guess, on some level, you got to be willing to go if you, if Illinois is not

8:17going to play ball in whatever, whatever, you know, what satisfactory towards you. But you know, I'm also, later here on next action, before I get to that, why do you think you guys have been able to make progress? And like, what can you tell us about whatever progress has been made to this point? I think the biggest thing is that we're in the same room having conversations with each other. For far too long in this negotiation, it was being played out by press release, by letters to the fans, by iPads and tweets and things that don't really make way for a strong trust to be built in negotiation. It's very, very much easier to get to what I call peace and the valley when you're sitting across from somebody and you lay everything out on the table. And so I think, you know, the months preceding this were part of the process that had to happen. There were growing pains. There was some friction they had to get, you know, loosened up there. But now I think everybody is very clear on what the goal is. And then we have to figure out how to agree to get there.

9:18So along those lines, like, you know, what are the, I guess, the real sticking points right now, you know, between the bears and you guys, as you guys are trying to, you know, get to the goal line here, is it, I mean, we're talking money, we're talking infrastructure, control, like, what, what, what, what are we looking at? So all of those things are part of the conversation, right? And we're working our way through those things. What I remind folks is that stadium deals take a while because they're complex, right? So they're capital intensive, they're politically sensitive, they're logistically difficult. You're dealing with land use and transportation and neighborhood concerns and public private negotiation and community partnerships and permitting and zoning and construction timelines and all of those things that are a part of this, right? And so as I remind folks, especially people who now have fatigue, they're like, this is taking so long, we've been doing this dance for three years.

10:19I want to remind folks that the bears closed on the Arlington Park site in February of 2023, which means that it's been three years and one month since they purchased that land. So to put that into context, when the Ricketts family bought the Chicago Cubs, they immediately announced a renovation of the ballpark. That was in October of 2009. It wasn't until 2014 where we actually got a shovel in the ground. I said, we, because I worked on that project, I was working in the Cubs for an office during that project. When you look at a legion stadium in Las Vegas, which was a situation where everybody was on the same page, the state, the city, the league, it took them four and a half years plus a special legislative session to move that. So we're at the three year mark, right? This is part of the process, and we're working through it. So people have questions about, you know, property value and, you know, environmental pieces and traffic studies, and all that stuff is going to come to the fore. But I think that we're doing the right thing by being deliberate and having those conversations

11:20all out. And so in Kevin's been very aggressive, Kevin Warren has been very aggressive, saying like, you know, they wanted shovels in the ground last year. They want shovels in the ground this year. Do you think that's realistic at this point? What are we in March here that at some point in 2026, you could see shovels in the ground somewhere? Well, listen, I think the, the, the answer about when this happens as far as from a operation standpoint, the just the same point, the bears have to make that decision. I won't say when they'll have shovels in the ground. What I will say is that our job here in Springfield is to be able to create the atmosphere on where businesses can do business here in the state, right? And but also to do it in a way that we're not policing the taxpayers. And so we could pass something here in the bears made to say they don't want to put shovels in the ground. That is, that can be a decision that's made here. We've got to create the atmosphere and the climate.

12:20And then they have, you know, to do their job on their end. So that's where, you know, it gets to me and anybody watching this who lives in Illinois, the taxpayer. And, you know, if you're a property owner in Illinois and I've, you know, been forced into owning the city and I've been forced into owning the suburbs. And in both places, you know, you see your property tax is going up and it's, you know, it's becoming harder and harder for a lot of people to sustain it. So then you, you got to wonder, you know, when you're doing a deal like this, most times the taxpayer feels like they're going for lack of a better way of putting it. You're going to get screwed because, you know, big corporates going to win out and you guys are going to, you're going to get nickel and dime. So how do you, you know, with the amount of pressure that's on here and a viable thing, like how do you try to get a deal that's, that's fair for everybody? It can't be easy. I would imagine. It's not easy, but we've got to have bright lines on what, what we refuse to do and what can't happen, right? And so I've been very clear, the Speaker of the House has been very clear, the governor's

13:22been very clear, the Senate president's been very clear, that we're not paying for a stadium, right? I think that in and of itself is a derivation or is going a different way from what we used to do back in the day, right? This can't be a back in the day deal. This is not 1989 when my good friend Jerry Reisdorf wanted a ballpark. And so former governor Thompson came over here to the Capitol where I'm sitting right now and stopped the clock in order to make it happen, right? Those days are over. It also can be 2001, which was the bear's last soldier fear renovation deal that were still on the hook for $532 million. And by the way, there was no clause in there that told the bear that they had to remain in Chicago, which was a mistake because Cleveland figured out how to put that into a clause in their legislation up there, which is why when the Browns decided they were leaving, they owed the city $110 million, which they paid out just recently. Now, there is a lot of lessons to be learned from the past, but the thing I can tell you

14:23is that I walk around Illinois, I walk around in streets of Chicago and people stop me and they say, keep fighting for us, but make sure that we're not left holding the back, right? We want the bears, but we don't want to hold the back. And I think that there's some power and some strength in that knowing that we can do things differently. We can walk and chew bubble gum that we can find ways to create some atmosphere where the bears make it easy for the bears to stay here, but also without hanging that albatross around the neck of the people. We got to be very smart about that. Yeah. And so when I hear that number 530 million, if I'm being honest, it's like, it's I get angry because I know that we've been paying down the interest and not the principal and that's why the bill is where it's at. It's just like, and I don't like a lot of people, you know, they want to blame Brandon Johnson. They want to bring Laurie life. And I'm like, this was done well before anybody was here. So to try to, you know, put a bandaid on what's going on and try to get things in the right direction, you got to look back at, you got to go back to Mayor daily and politics

15:25that were going on that you mentioned before you want to blame the people of today. And now you're in the position of trying to do the best thing possible. And for me, what I put out and I talked to Brandon about this when he was here, look, you got this huge hole. If you sell the land to the bears and let them bring the stadium, you know, build their stadium, you will that $530 million thing is gone. You'll have a profit. And then you can tax them and ultimately that's where they really wanted to be. And I know there's like, you know, public land going private. It's not ideal. In this scenario for what's happened to me, that's always been the best solution. Is that the craziest thing you've ever heard? It's not. I think it makes sense. In principle, and true for the marriage, you make a couple of good points that I want to highlight. One, you know, if it's very clear and, you know, very precise what the bears wanted to do and where they want to be. And I do believe that the lakefront is where they wanted to be additionally. Then there should have been ways to make that happen with some conversation.

16:28And we missed that. I also think that when we look at this entire side of what we can see is a lack of leadership and vision. And once again, I'm not to your point. I'm not talking about Brandon Johnson. I'm not talking about Lori Life. But I'm talking about when the bears first decided to leave Wrigley Field in the 1970s. And we should have had a conversation then about what the future was, not just plopping them into a part of district side and figuring out a way to make it work. Now, we did make it work for 30 years, but then the question became what happens next. And then in 2001, when they got the renovation of the current social field, it was almost immediately when the ribbon was cut that that stadium deal, that stadium kind of infrastructure was obsolete. There was no way they could ever make money off of that. And we should have figured out then what we're going to do next. And now here we are, all these years later, having this conversation. And I will also say that one piece that we have not spoken enough about is the fact that the bears also had a lack of, I think, strategic leadership in this space, because

17:29they went and bought a piece of land for probably $100 million more than it was worth, freezing themselves out and leveraging against themselves, negotiating against themselves, because for some reason they want to prove a point that they were willing to leave Chicago. And they did that before having a conversation about permits and infrastructure in Texas, right? I've compared it to seeing someone who you think is attractive and then buying a wedding dress and a ring and then asking them to go on a date with you, right? It's backwards. They did this thing backwards and now we're trying to clean it up. I think we can get there, but those things have to be recognized in order for us to move forward. So that's super interesting. So let's just say that they go to Arlington Heights, which I think if everybody was betting on right now, that'd be the heavy favorite. What does Illinois actually have to give up, in essence, to make that happen? What does that look like from your seat?

18:29So we've been very clear, once again, we're not paying for a stadium. We've been very clear. We help with infrastructure for any development of this size, no matter what the industry is. No matter where it is, if it's within the state of Illinois, and we maintain that, the conversation we're having now is about giving thebearance the ability or anyone else with a large size development like this, the ability to negotiate property tax payments for a certain defined amount of time with that municipality in which they're going to go. That is it. That is where we have drawn the line. Now our friends to the east and the Hoosier State have said that they'll give the bears because everything they want, and they've had these agrarian proclamations. But honestly, if you go through that deal with a fine tooth comb, it doesn't stand up to scrutiny, right? And so I think as we continue through this process, folks will see that this makes more sense. But this is not just the state of Illinois negotiating with the bears. This, to me, is a salvo for all states and all municipalities who find themselves stuck

19:34in these bidding wars with billion dollar sports franchises. I think Kansas did the wrong thing. I think Virginia did the wrong thing, and as always, Illinois is now in a position to be a national leader. And I think we're going to show folks how to do this the right way. There's a way to square the circle to thread the needle and to make it all make sense. So along those lines, then you can get to like how politically important in your mind is it for the bears to stay in Illinois for JB, who's got aspirations supposedly and all these things. You know, and he can't make it about that. That would be wrong, but there's also that that's got to be a factor at some point too. Well, I've heard folks say that, you know, the governor can't lose the bears because he wants to be present a couple of things. One, the governor and I talk on a regular basis, he wants the bears to be here in the state. He wanted them to be in the city of Chicago. He's a, he's a bear's fan. He wants this to work and we're working together to make it happen.

20:36But I don't think it's because of quote unquote political aspirations, but for folks who are connected to that idea, because we've got to have these, you know, these berries about everything. I'll just remind folks that I've got a friend in California named Gavin Newsom, who also thought about a battle about a football team and his football team went to Las Vegas. And so that's not what people are are banting about when they're figuring out what they want their next president to be. So all right, this might be another hard question for you answering. I can't really appreciate the extended time or we'll get you a pop, pop you in three minutes. Oh, who do you think has more leverage right now, the bears, the governor, the taxpayers, like how would you kind of do that pie chart if you, like where, where does, like where are we sitting here? Like are you guys like pleat, you know, I don't, if you had to like sort of 50,000 feet, just look at that right now. What would you say? The taxpayers have all the leverage, which is a great place for us to be. We're not letting the bears run the show, not letting municipalities run the show. And frankly, those of us in state government are taking cues from the people who we represent.

21:40The great thing that the taxpayers have to sit on right now is that once again, they are the folks who, who, who control the narrative and the conversation about what happens in this building and the state capital. They also happen to be the bear's fans, and they've been very clear about, you know, how they would feel about a move to Indiana, and they also have been very clear with us about what they expect from us and how they expect for us to behave in this conversation and this negotiation. And so I would say the taxpayers are winning right now. If they were not, this deal would have been done a long time ago, if there would have been a blank check, you know, and a couple of billion dollars that would have been, that would have gone to building an actual stadium. We've not done that, not because we don't love this team, not because we don't want this to work, but because we know that this moment demands us to operate in a different way. And once again, we're going to do that, but we're also going to find a way for all of this to work and to win. And I can, you know, I can say that I really do believe that the people of Illinois are going to be happy when this is over. So we're the team. So we'll all into heights.

22:41So we'll Chicago. My job is trying to find a way to make all of this work, and I think we can do it. You got a tough job. And I'm still holding out my, would you call it one percent chance that they end up in Chicago? What do we do? We have a three percent chance. What number is that at right now? Well, I know we're talking football, but it is baseball opening day. And I'm reminded of a quote by Nelson Algrim, right? The great Chicago writer who says Chicago is a ninth inning kind of town. The game thought over to the last man is out. And so I don't necessarily know that Chicago is out the conversation. I know I'm not going to put a percentage on it. But this thing is not over until it's over. We're going to keep doing our job here to make sure that they can make the right decision. All right. Well, listen, if you, I don't need any credit on my cell. The land of the Bears proposal. You can have all of it. Whoever gets it done, you, JB, anybody else out there, they can, you can have all of it. I'll just, and I will celebrate you to the moon if that happens. Because you know, I love this city. And I think the Bears belong in it. But you know, if they, if they end up in the sad ass burbs, then I'll go to the sad ass,

23:45where I live. By the way, I'll, I'll go out there and park my car and tell everybody, see, I told you we're going to be in this parking lot for four hours and spilling out into 53. And you will over it. Yeah. That any rate. Okay. I'm off. I'm off. There is something special about the fact that at this moment, all of Chicago's sports teams play their home games in the city of Chicago. That's a big deal. They can't say that in LA. They can't say that in New York. They can't say that in Dallas. They can't say that in Miami. It is a big deal. And it's part of our fabric. It's part of our infrastructure is part of our ethos of who we are as a city. And so hopefully, as some of the rhetoric dies down, we get to the actual brands tax. We figure out how to make this all work. But I'm with you, man. I'm a Chicago guy. And Chicago is a special place to watch sports. All right. Hey, hey, I can't appreciate it. I can't let you out here by the way. You have something Gregor? You want? Yeah. No, you're good. The Reverend Brian Salder, who's a big fan of yours over at Faith in place.

24:48Do you want to know if you're confident about a line I football next year? I am. Yes. I think Coach Bielamann has put together an amazing squad. We've got size. We've got speed. We've got guys who have confidence that they understand the game. Our defense of backfuck is going to be better to share than I've seen it since my playing days at the University of Illinois. I'm super excited about a line I football. And obviously, a line I've asked about tonight as well. I actually lied. I got once just one, this is actually a serious question. If they went to Arlington Heights, how do you pay down the stadium? How does that, what does it even look like? Can you explain that a little bit? It has to be part of a conversation. That's part of what we're going to go check right now, because I think it's bad form to leave, to leave social field there with all of that debt. And while I've been very clear that the bears don't have any obligation of contract on social field, they do have an obligation of context. There would be no debt there. There would be no stadium renovation. Had they not kicked and screamed for 20 years ago. And so we 25 years ago at this point, so we got to figure out how to deal with that.

25:50That is not a small piece of the puzzle, but it's something that we're going to work through. Feels like a big piece. Hey, Cam, let's do this again. Yeah, I was just going to say, Cam, I again, appreciate your time, Mr. Buckner. And my only question is, because you were so integral in the 1060 project and the renovations at regular field, I'm a Cubs fan and I think you guys did a fantastic job with that. But I also understand the politics, you know, the rickets certainly have split politics within their family and the neighborhood itself, I know, is very traditionalist. So for you in this realm with the bears, how much are you really trying to take what you learned through that process with the Cubs to try to get this done and across the finish line for Chicago for, you know, Cook County and the Bears? Yeah, so it's interesting, I learned a lot in those years. I will say this is an entirely different approach and part of my consternation and my pushback

26:51on the bears has been based on what I learned in my time at the Cubs, because frankly, there are things that Tom Ricketts refused to do that the bears have done and I think have made this conversation a lot tougher, right? Tom refused to threaten the leaf. He refused to even at one point the MLB commissioner gave us the option to play our home games in Riggly, I'm sorry, in Komisky or in Milwaukee to make the project go quicker so we would not have to, you know, to span out the construction. And Tom said, no, Tom said one very clear eating very early on, you said Chicago Cubs fans deserve to see Cubs baseball and really feel no matter what, right? Part of me now, you know, 10, 15 years later looking at that, it's so grateful for an owner of taking that stance. He also said that when, when Ram and Pat Quinn and everyone said, no money for your stadium, he said, okay, well, we'll figure out how to make it work and they did and it was one

27:53of the most seamless, I think, and most successful renovations that we've seen in the history of this league, of that league and really of pro sports. So the thing I gleaned from that is that there's a way to get things done if you have folks for willing to have conversations and come to the table, you know, the bears don't have this bad thing they do once again, Cubs pay for everything themselves and you know, folks like me who have to go to City Hall a few times a week to not just try to get approval on permits and whatnot, we have to get approval and path legislation for a jumbo tribe just to put a television in our own stadium. We have to go to the legislature to try to get approval for more night games and more concerts. Every single night game, we have to go back to the to the ultimate acts for that. That's a pretty bad deal from the sports business standpoint and the Cubs figure out a way to make it work. Great ownership. The bears could learn something from the way that the Ricketts approached their conversation. Well, I would just say this, you know, I know politically, you know, there's always going

28:57to be a big divide in this country. And when it comes to the Chicago Bears in Illinois, like we root for the bears. And so in that regard for you guys to get this done, we are rooting for the state of Illinois to get this done. We want what's best for the Chicago Bears, which means we want what's best for Chicago and the state of Illinois. So like in terms of who has, who's back from the fan standpoint, we want both sides to get this done because right now we are celebrating an exciting team and exciting coach and exciting quarterback. And the last thing we want to celebrate now is shovels in the ground. So we are rooting for both you guys on both sides to get this done. I love that sentiment. I agree. I believe we're going to find a way to do it. And came on the way out here for real. The wriggly thing was amazing. And it should have happened for the record for me as old school old hat here. It should have happened with old school. Kamiski, that place. I wish I was there right now. They should have.

29:58Well, and they, thank you. And they should have renovated. They should have renovated Chicago Stadium, which was the greatest place ever to. But you got it done with wriggly. So thank you. I think my biggest takeaway listening to it back and even in the moment and based off of some of the things we've discussed over the last couple months is certainly in the last month is when you hear, you know, you know, he starts it off by saying like, there's there was a lot of misinformation and a lot of flip flopping and, you know, at the end where I kind of teed him up and talked about, you know, the difference between this and the Cubs deal and he kind of went into, you know, well, the Cubs never threatened to leave. You know, I do think ultimately outside of the votes and money, which are, you know, the top two things that those are the things on the field that need to get figured out and hashed out. I do think there's just so much ego on both sides of the aisle. I think George, you know, as Mayor Doug McDermott said from Hammond, you know, when he we

35:10were sitting in City Hall and Hammond and he was like, you know, the pride and joy of Illinois and they're not treating them like that. That honestly felt like it came from the bears, like something that had been said behind the scenes. And so I think George feels that way or the bears and I'm projecting, but I feel like the bears are sitting here like, you're not treating us like the pride and joy of Illinois. The government, the politicians are sitting here going, well, you're not treating us well either with all these threats and this flopping and misinformation. And so I just think it's taken them so much time to get through all of that that this is where we're at right now and why nothing is currently really felt like it's gotten done. Well, look, I thought the chat was right about one thing specifically and that's to me is the bears don't owe any of that $532 million. That's on the state. That's how the way you've paid down the debt, you know, to try to wrangle them into, you know, paying it down.

36:11If the bears are going to do them a solid, that's a tremendous gesture by the bears in my mind. The other side of it that was interesting, he seemed wide open to selling a land of them. He didn't push back on that for a second. And to me, that still remains the best idea, even though it's not going to happen. I get it. But like he didn't push back even an inch and it's like, how do you, how do you make this work for everyone? Well, I still think my idea is the best damn ass idea that I've heard. So I know that I'm biased towards me, but I'll admit what I'm an idiot, Gregory. You know, I will at least once in a while and I did like that. He was like, you know, when you brought that up, he's like, you made two good points there. Yeah. Like you, you, you just created a little momentum there, I, you know, it is what it is. And, and I get, I'm from Indiana. So I think there's probably going to be some people going like, slow down brags about what we're rooting for in the state Illinois versus the taxes that we have to take in as Illinois residents or Cook County residents versus being bears fans and want what's best

37:16for the team, you know, and, but just from the conversations I have, it just feels like even if you live in Illinois and it may affect your taxes one way or another, I think the majority of the people want the bears to stay here, I just, that's what it feels like one way or another. So, you know, at the end of the day, you know, where I've stood for four years on this, I'm, it is very tiring to talk about. And I just hope that they can get it done. The Arlington, as much as I agree with you staying on the lakefront would be the most ideal for fans if they could come up with, you know, a good infrastructure of parking and roads and, and things of that nature that currently aren't, aren't the best amenities for bears fans. Arlington Heights is set up on a silver platter for them. They own the land there. It's a great piece of land. It's right off the highway. There's a train station that comes right into it. You can put all the restaurants and sportsbooks and, you know, and tailgate lots and everything

38:19and a giant stadium, everything you need right there. It's ready to go. And it's just like, come on guys, get this done. Well, that was another interesting point too, that he said they overpaid for that land by a hundred million. Well, I, I don't know if he's right or if he's not right, but that was an interesting thing to put out there. And if they did, that's on Ted Phillips, like Kevin Warren's probably sitting there, like, you know, he's never going to speak on that, but y'all overpaid for this. I don't even want it. I want to be in the city. And now you're asking me to fix this or get the, you know, the political movement that we need, which by the way, we can't do because Chicago doesn't want to go over the bear. So now I got to bring in Indiana. You really handed me a headache here, like at some part of me wonders how long Kevin's going to want to continue to do the job, not that he's doing a great job at it here. And you still look back on that throw and you're just like, how the hell did he do that? Like, it's just absolutely unbelievable. One of the most unbelievable throws you'll ever see, especially when you think about the context of the moment, I mean, it's still kind of, you know, it kind of gets lost a little bit because they ended up losing that game. But what an unbelievable, unbelievable play really is to, to this day, like looking back on it, just, just incredible. And I recommend everyone go see Project Hail Mary. Well, I guess, you know, you mentioning your plans last night. I think we might have buried the lead here, Gregory. Did you get to the gym today? You did. I did. Today was like day.

44:23So got to the gym third day in a row, got up in the morning, before we even got to the studio. Just knock it out, get your day started right. So I'm three days in feeling good. How long did you do leg day or did you just stand there on your legs and look around? I was an hour and a half in. Thank you very much. I can give you my rundown here. Here we go. I'll tell you right now. Today was legs and abs, hamstring and glute focus, had seated hamstring curls, three of 12 leg press machine, three of 10 leg extension, three of 12. Are you getting? 49:35I know. And so we were really rooting for you to be laid back in your chair like you were for that whole thing. You were almost in this exact position right here again. And we're also excited for you tonight. Let's have this. Let's have this George Gervin, Caleb, I have some thoughts on it for sure. Okay. So, you know, Caleb is trying to trademark all things ice man and he wants to put it on everything and possibly put it on shirts, hoodies, water bottles, whatever. And word got back to George Gervin who was the ice man, Greg, like he did have a poster and there was like dry ice in the air and he was doing his thing, his famous fingertip roll for the old hats. We all remember it for the new hats. George Gervin was one of the greatest scores in NBA history. People called him ice. That was his nickname. And George does not like this and I know you're upset about I saw your tweet. You want to pay it forward here. So go ahead, let's pull up the quote here.

51:38We got a couple of things to kind of bring to the table here. But this was George Gervin, Patrick Finley had an article that came out Jonathan Jones also from CBS did some reporting on this as well. And he said, George Gervin goes on to say, I've got nothing but respect for Caleb. George Gervin told us sometimes he's already proved greatness and his potential upside is great, like a nice man, but that name is taken. All I'm saying is young fella, we've already got one ice man. And then I mean, like so for me, my biggest issue with him, we talked about this last week briefly, but and I said last week when when Caleb put in, you know, the trademark office to have a few different trademarks, I think we can pull up the different logos and, you know, Steven, if you will, these are the filings to the US patent and trademark office that William submitted for four different trademarks.

52:39There's a couple of you who are watching here on YouTube. There's a couple different iterations of the way he'll have ice man in in letters, but then he also has a couple silhouettes of himself throwing a football one with the 18 Williams on the back and one that's just a gray silhouette, somewhat of a call out to the jump man. We joked last week that that could be a point of contention for Jordan, you know, because he's certainly one that doesn't play when it comes to those things. So my and I said last week, my, my whole stance was I didn't think Caleb could get the ice man word trademark because there already have been ice man in the path, the past and maybe he'll get the silhouette. I see that as a more reasonable thing, but what pisses me off about it now that we're all coming to the folder is George saying there's only one ice man. No, George, you're not the only ice man.

53:40So that's where I have an issue with it. If you want to say Caleb shouldn't trade market, I didn't trade market, you know, Val Kilmer was ice man on top gun. You know, there was an ice man and X man. I think I saw Kyle Brandt say that red grains who played for the barrage was once called ice man back in the 20s or whenever the hell he played. The point is George Gervin isn't the only ice man. Now, you could certainly make the argument that he's obviously known for it. And then the other issue I have with it and you pull up the final graphic here, Steven of George Gervin now putting it, putting in a trademark says this article goes on to say Gervin, meanwhile, filed a trademark application for ice man and ice man 44 four days after Williams submitted his own, Gervin noted in his paperwork that he first used the ice man moniker for goods and services in 1979, 22 years before Williams was born. The president CEO of Gervin, global management, Gerald Burrazzano told us sometimes he wrongly

54:47believed Gervin already had the trademark nickname and the confusion stem from the death of a business associate. This is the other point where I get irritated. You had 40 years to trademark this 46 years, 47 years. And now four days after Caleb goes to trademark it, now you're like, oh, wait, no, actually we're going to trademark it. And the only reason we did it is because one of our business partners died, please, like that let's not let's not do the laymass excuse now. If you want to come out and say, we're not good business people over here. We didn't have this trademark, but now we want to out of accepted that. But if you're going to come out here and say, oh, it was because of a business partner dying that we didn't get this done in the last 47 years, no, you're just trying to step on Caleb Williams toes now. Do I think Caleb should get it? No, there's, as I mentioned before, there's plenty of other ice men. But what George is doing here now is kind of irritating. And now I'm kind of at first, I didn't think Caleb could get it.

55:48Now I'm hoping he does. All right, well, a couple of things here. One, if I'm Caleb, I'm calling up George, or I'm having my business people do it. George, what do you want? What's it going to take for you to go away here? What do we got to pay you, Georgie? Is it, you go with 10 grand? Because I'm willing to do that. And there's got to be a number here that George will go away. I think that's ultimately what George is looking for here. And, you know, there is a problem. Sure, there's a part of George. It's like, that's me. That was, that's what they called me. So it all, you know, when you get old and you get a little bit forgotten, even though George has stayed at least somewhat relevant, you know, there's probably a little bit of a pain attached to, you know, the aging process here. And George is 73 years old. So, you know, we're a long way away from him being the ice man. For the record, you know, again, old hat here. The Spurs traded George to the Bulls in 1985. 85, 86. It was Jordan's second year. He broke his foot. So the Bulls actually relied on Gervin. And I was, you know, fortunate to be going to games back then, you know,

56:50my, one of my dad's friends, his wife got sick and we got out. We got tickets that year. 18 bucks a seat for second row behind the visitor's bench at old Chicago stadium. It was unbelievable. And Gervin was out there. And I remember it. And George always seemed like a nice fellow. And he was a phenomenal player for the Spurs. But my overall thing is like, dude, I know you didn't make the money back then, but you did make a lot of money and hopefully you took care of your money. And if you didn't take care of your money, then that's kind of on you. And you trying to do this after the fact, it's just too late. So, you know, right. Like he, he's going to trademark it for what? Like nobody's buying anything. George Gervin, ice man related anymore. He's just doing it to be petty four days after Caleb files it, their business partners are not jumping in. And like, it's just that part to me rubs me the wrong way.

57:51And then again, don't blame it on your business partner who recently died. Like this is you've had the nickname since 1979. You even mentioned 22 years before Caleb will he's born. Okay, dummies, then why didn't you trademark it? You know, it's not Caleb's fault that he's a better businessman. Right. Well, it's a different time, though, too. When people didn't necessarily, well, I mean, listen, a lot of things were trademarked back in 1979. I'm sure watch that, watch that movie air on Amazon Prime about Jordan, understanding his and image, image and likeness and the deal was, but I'm just saying like, I agree with you. It was a different time, but there were forward thinkers back then. And one of them, George was a teammate with, yeah, right. Well, yeah, he blew it flat out. He did. Uh, now, is he entitled to some royalty on the way out to get out of the way? Which is, that's what I'm assuming this is about and, uh, and, and is he going there to, you know, I don't know, in these, in these moments, if I'm Caleb Williams that I'm

58:56planning on, you know, being a $70 million a year guy, all right, George, I'll, I'll, I'll pay it for by taking care of the old school here. What, what is, what, what would make you happy? What's the number? That's what I would, if I was in my, I'd tell my, uh, you know, the people that are taking care of my finances, find out what he wants and, and we'll go for that. Because I do think this like, as I mentioned last week, when we talked about this briefly, but Caleb once upon a time in college tried to trademark part of the Superman logo in, in, in, intertwining it in Superman was like, no, that's not happening. Who are you? This is, we're Superman, like, you know, and so this is finally something that was felt original to him that came, uh, organically here this year. And so now this fight over it just is so frustrating and so silly. And the thing, again, that I take frustration with it is I didn't think that he deserved it. Thank you, Chuck LaDelle, another iceman, uh, MMA fighter, you know, that's the thing

59:58I take issue with. I didn't think Caleb was going to win the trademark, you know, approval for it because of other people being named it. But now that George is coming out going, no, there's only one iceman. No, somebody else, if you're going to tell Caleb, he's, he's not iceman, then somebody needs to tell George the same thing. He's not the only iceman. What about this? This is a stupid conversation. What about the ice man coming, the four act play by Eugene O'Neill was written in 1939, Greg said to put on my glass sound for this one. It explores the lives of a group of alcoholic dead enders in a New York City saloon who claim to the pipe dream, uh, delusions for hope. The arrival is sober, charismatic salesman named Hickey disrupts the routine as he tries to force them to confront their reality. Now I've never seen the ice man come with, but I've, but I have said that phrase a million times. The ice man come. Yeah, it's iconic. It's iconic. It is. Every time you walk into the studio, it's about 10 30 in the morning and I see you. And that's what Arnold Schwarzenegger in Batman forever or Batman and Robin, one of

1:01:00the two. He comes bustin through the door and he yells that he goes, the ice man, cometh and then he just starts shooting everyone with his sub zero gun or whatever it was. Yeah. And, you know, iconic. Everyone knows that scene. Right. Of course. And I spent all my apps, Steven iceman in top gun for me might be the biggest, that's right. And that's my point when that came out, did George did say anything to Val Kilmer? No. And I get the point is some people make, well, he didn't try to trademark it. Caleb is. Okay. That's not Caleb's fault. That's your fault. He's trying to trademark it. We sell a damn sweater that says ice man on it. So do many other outlets here in Chicago. So I understand why Caleb's trying to put his name next to it or, or, you know, attach his branding to it. I have no problem with that. That's the right thing to do when you talk about it being a different time.

1:02:00He has to do that to protect himself. And it's a name that has stuck with him. They were running NFL network segments about it for God's sake with this guy. Get out of here. Certainly, George, a little despondent, but it's a pavance that he's looking for. You just got to give him his pavance, right, Gregory, give him his pavance.
