The trust we made it one show.
And Lance Briggs will be joining us here in a little bit. Professor Briggs. Professor Briggs. Tartiness for Professor Briggs. Not good. Not good. I mean, the grades haven't come. Maybe had for Professor Briggs this season. And we're excited for those on Mondays. You can expect that on the C. H. Yo Bears podcast every Monday after game days, but Professor Briggs, you know, he's going to he's off to a tough start with the Tartiness. It's not a good start for him. It's not a good start. It all serious. This Briggs had some family affairs to get to. He will be joining us here very shortly. But he had some things of urgency he had to attend to. So we were joking with love. But we got a lot of fun things to talk about here today. Mojo Brooks. You guys have had him seen him here on this program here before last year, joining us in studio. He's going to join us here. A comedian obviously needs no introduction world renowned. And obviously everybody in Chicago loves him and his love for the Bears bleeds through. So he's going to be joining us here in just a little bit. So excited to
have some fun with Mojo talks and bears and have some fun. He's got a couple shows here this weekend here in Chicago that he'll fill you in on. And of course, we're going to get to the blueprint and everything else a lot to get to here today, Jerry. But I want to start with Caleb Williams, you know, it's a we're just a few days away from the NFL season. We've spent so much time the last few weeks talking about Kyler Gordon or I'm trying to convince you that Jordan Van and Bergs going to the Hall of Fame and Saviour. I'm Thomas. There's never having has her but it's like, all right, let's let's rewind because I think we're forgetting about we're burying the lead in the lead is Caleb, we need to talk about the lead for sure. I mean, Caleb Williams, he's going into another season and there's a lot of expectation and high hopes for him. But I'm really excited for this offense. I think it's going to be the strength of this football team. I like the receiving cord that we have. So I'm ready to get this season started. Yeah. And it definitely appeared that way for Caleb Williams too, because you know, over these first few years, I mean,
just like any young guy, right? As they get older, they start to mature and you forget that. I think so many people lose side of that when it comes to professional athletes. And you, I think probably understand this from the different lens, but from a fan point of view, there's just so many people that look at you guys like you're supposed to be like adults, like I could only imagine at 19, 2021, to have the kind of money get to the perfect and to be expected. I'm still taking I'm 40 years old and I still haven't grown up. So like high expectations. So if watching Caleb Williams maturation has been fun to watch just as a fan and just as somebody that has gone through my own maturation and life, but it really stood out at the start of camp, how much weight he's lost. And we haven't had an opportunity to talk about this. So let's, this is at the beginning of training camp. And I believe Mark Carmen was the one that asked Caleb Williams about some of the weight loss. And I think this is kind of where it starts for me of the transformation and just the different level of dialed in that we're seeing
from Caleb Williams. So here's Caleb talking about, you know, his workout regimen and how he kind of cuts some weight this off season. Did you do anything different? A lot of those lines this off season training, what you feel sort of more like a better than the off season just up. What you got to do to get ready? Yeah, just just figuring out my schedule a little bit better. When I'm going to train, when I'm going to relax, how I'm going to train, you know, what we're expressed for me and my body. How to eat. And things like that, I'll loss some weight. So it's good. I'm excited about that, be able to move a little bit better, be, you know, be smoother. You know, all these all these different things, just being able to also bring that into the facility with a strength stack and things like that things up done, things that work well with me and being able to adjust and be better for the season. I'm going to lose Tim, 10, 10 to 15, something like that. Yeah, eating at certain times, going to bed and not eating
after seven and, you know, just eating consistently, eating well. So Jerry, I mean, for you, what was that like to not just like learn how to make it in the NFL, but then to elevate and stay in the NFL like what he's talking about kind of learning that routine and that and that eating regimen that I think maybe gets underestimated by younger players at times. Well, it's super important. You know, you have to stay healthy, but you have to take care of your body as well that I think that's kind of like rule number one. And that's where you want to start. So the fact that he's taking the extra steps to get his body right, let's me know that he's headed in the right direction. He wants to make sure that physically he's able to do all the things that he knows that he's capable of doing and elevate everything as well. So getting the right amount of sleep, the right nutrients in his body, the right workout schedule, you know, sometimes it takes a little bit of time to figure all those things out at the professional level, but he's he's hit. I feel like he's getting into a routine is he's hitting his stride. And
I'm really excited for it. It takes a different level of seriousness, right? Like it's one thing to play a game and be very good at it and even train to pinpoint throws, but it's another thing to like really dial into those nuances, you know, and and that I think is going to elevate, you know, when you talk about the margins and all you guys that are in the NFL, you're all elite, right? And so how do you separate yourself from the elite? So it's those little margins, right? And so, yeah, and also, I mean, you have to prepare yourself for the season. And the season is extremely long. Yeah, you know, it seems like it's getting longer and longer, you know, but you want to make sure that you're peaking at the right time. And you also have to be ready for and also know that you're going to be going all the way through like December, you know, all the way to like January. So you want to make sure that your body is prepared for those rigors throughout the year. Yeah, for sure. And so I think
that like that attention to detail speaks to the seriousness that Caleb Williams has kind of approached his job here this off season. He was named one of the captains. I think that was part of something. Maybe I left out here to start this segment, but he was named one of the five captains on the bears. And and so that leads me to Ben Johnson, you know, talking about Caleb's approach this year. And this was one that I thought was interesting and also kind of funny, just the way he worded it. But Ben kind of referring to Caleb and saying like, he's been less goofy than he was last year. And you know, whenever Briggs he gets around, maybe we'll bring this back to him because I knew I know he'll have some fun with this too. But I also thought it was interesting to hear Ben's perspective on this. Yeah, yeah, I've seen a very composed person every time he steps into the building. This guy, you know, might have had a little bit of goofy to him a year ago. And I use that that
term with love. And in now you just see a more serious player and intent every time I'm around him. And I think his teammates feel that as well. You know, he's getting to the practice skill early. He's making sure his part is taken care of. He's warmed up. He's ready to go. He's staying after with the guys after practice. I think you guys see that on a regular basis. And so he's taking a lot of pride in his approach right now. And it trickles down to everybody around him. I think it's a great thing. And so I think he's a grow up and he's going to be a huge leader force this year. Yeah, no, I mean, I say that lovingly. And it's like, no, it's just that when we step on the grass, you can kind of just see it like he's locked in. He's got his blinders on and he's only concerned about doing his job at a high level. And there were some times where maybe a year ago, you get sidetracked or distracted a little bit. And yet this year that has not
been the case. This guy is he's serious about about his approach, his job and making sure he's taking his game to the next level. I mean, that's the goofiest side. It never lose the goofy. And I don't think Caleb ever will. But I just think from a visual perspective and just what Ben when you're hearing is just it's just such another level of dialed in that was serious. It's serious business. He is the quarterback of the Chicago Bears and he's a leader. And he knows that this is another season where he has to show improved. So he has to take everything extremely serious. I mean, this is going to be an incredible season where we're going to be there's going to be a lot of eyeballs on the Chicago Bears based off of what they did last year. So the expectations are through the roof. So he has to take the season extremely serious. Yeah, absolutely. And so to that point, that's a good segue to Caleb himself talking about his improvements. You know, there's so much conversation. And I
know Ben wanted to reset and and put last year to bed. But so much of the conversation is what are the bears? How much different are the bears a year ago from now? And here's Caleb Williams talking about how much different he is from a year ago to now? Yeah, I would say I'm not I'm not necessarily second guessing, you know, coach or anything like that. Now, obviously getting a new coach here, one and how you're going to jail on game day, how things are going to work out. You know, he was obviously, you know, one you know, probably wondering the same thing going into week one. And so, you know, I would say that's the biggest thing and confidence in myself in the playbook and the things that I know and and recognizing defenses and checking the ball down, getting the ball, my guys hands delivering a good ball. I think that's I think that's where I've grown and where we've grown. Yeah, I mean, that's what it's about it's about trust, right? Yeah, a lot of trust and confidence, you know, he talked about the playbook. And that's the most
important part right there is that playbook and understanding how everything works and how everything fits and how you're going to bring your team together, you know, and elevate your play. So he's saying all the right things now is time to go out there and play. Yeah. And I think they're going to be ready. I was just, you know, on the phone with my good friend, Joey, who I used to when I'm driving, you ever have a friend like when you're driving somewhere and you need that gap filler, you're in traffic. Well, my guy's not peanut. Tillman, my is a guy named Joey sandwich from Twitter. But yes, you used peanut tillman. I used to go into like, there's traffic, you know, over here coming past Kamiski and I was like, oh, who am I going to call to like just get me to get me the studio. So Joey knew what I was doing. But I just told him like, man, he was like hesitant. He's like, I don't know how this game's going to go. I was like, I think this offense is going to go off. I know it's kind of bizarre to say that it's a bears fan and, you know, it would be so bears for them to slip a little
and stumble a little out the gate and have some three and outs. And we're talking about like, oh, this wasn't how it was supposed to be. What up? But I genuinely think just from everything I've seen, there's been so much talk about the injuries and, you know, the the past rush and Kyler. I just I really do think we haven't as much as there is a there's hype around this offense. I'm not saying there isn't. I really think people are underestimating when you say this team is going to be a top five offense like they were last year. I think they will be a top five offense again. But I think they're going to be a much different top top five offense this year than they were as a top. Does that make sense? Do you feel like this scene will be balanced with the running attack and the passing attack? That's what I mean. It's like last year, they were statistically a top five offense. But would you say it felt that way? Like it came in spurts. Yeah, it was a consistency. We talked so much about how they need to start. I think it is going to be much more consistent. I think it is going to be much more deliberate. I don't think
it's going to always take miracles and these crazy circumstances for them to rack up the stats. I think they're going to do it in a way that looks very meaningful. I hope so. That's what I've seen. And I just see mismatches, right? Right. Talked about this before when Kotler and Martellis and Alshon and Brandon Marshall and Forte and when you have those kind of players, it's really hard to stop them. They're all good. And I think it's shelling. And I think that's what this offense has. And so I'm excited. I don't think that there's a worry on the offensive side of the football. I think that they will be productive on the ground and through the air. My big concern in question mark is the defense. You know, we've talked about this before on previous shows. You know, they have to basically show up, starting with the D line and then working their way all the way back. That's going to be the question mark and they're going to be facing a lot of really good offenses as well. So my question mark is the defense. I've not worried about the offense. It sounds kind of weird to even say
that like usually we're talking about the defense and how stacked they are. Yeah. But now it seems like they're the big question mark and we're excited to see what they're going to put together and how they're going to defend. Yeah, it's it's going to be interesting here on Sunday. We're going to get to some blueprint. The blueprint to beating the Panthers. I mean, I'm sure Ben has his own plans. But today is when we offer up to Ben Johnson, our advice on how to beat the Panthers. So that coming up here later in the program and so I'm looking forward to giving Ben that advice to helping. That's what we're all in this together. That's right. That's the key. I feel like they listen to us also. Yeah, for sure. So we've got a few more things here in the hopper. This is me just being prepared and you know, I know Mojo Brooks is going to be joining us here in a little bit. Lance should be joining us here shortly as he's getting set up, getting back to his house. I also feel like you've grown as a person too. Thanks. Like especially on the show. Like yeah, you're you just put everything together. You're prepared. You're ready. Like you're really elevating
your game. Well, that means you're proud of you. Thank you. That means a lot. That means a lot. It really does. I mean, I'm talking to a Hall of Famer right here. So like when he talked to somebody that understands like a lifetime commitment to preparation and execution. Like for you to say that to me means a lot because you're talking to somebody that for a long time in his life was a very like undisciplined person. I had to like teach but you have really elevated yourself. Thank you. And I'm proud of you. Well, thank you extremely proud of you. Well, that is a very awesome. That's a very awesome moment. Here I'm proud of you too. And that is the brick head coming of the day from Jerry Azuna. A few more things here just you know, kind of bust through this as we you know, you know, you know, praise, you know, all the greatness that is Caleb Williams got the iceman shirt here on today. You know, I'm just fanning out. You know, I was you know, I know Briggs would make fun of me. Creeping with Braggzie might have to might have to be introduced here today.
Maybe I'll I'll show you guys that graphic here later been working on some things here behind the scenes. But to that point about, you know, growing into roles and doing what we do here, you know, trying to find your voice and being a vocal leader. I thought this was interesting from Ben Johnson talking about Caleb Williams and his vocal growth as a leader, because I think this appeals behind the curtain of attention to detail, but holding your teammates accountable, I think is so important. But how you hold them accountable and how you talk to them is is is key, right? Like you would talk about what we do here. I want to make sure I do it in a respectful manner, but we got to make sure we're tight, right? So like this is Caleb Williams in Ben Johnson's eyes and how he's asserting himself as a vocal leader. Yeah, I think so. You know, he's I think he's getting to the point now when things aren't right. Like he gets pissed off,
which which I think that's what the best ones do. He's really hard on himself first and foremost. And so he gets upset with himself. But now it's to the point where if we if we're that close and somebody didn't get his depth or ran the wrong number or steps or whatever that is, he's not afraid to let him know. And I think he's earned that right with with how he's played over the last year and a half. And I think I think we saw that a few times at training camp here this year. Was there anything for you that you can recall like where a player was younger, but talented, had the pedigree, they brought him in for a reason, but he hadn't learned his ways yet, but then turned into the leader of the pack. And then is that something that you ever experienced? I've never experienced anything like that. But with Caleb, I mean, so it's got to be a hard spot to be like the young guy first and then rotate into the leader over veterans who have been there much longer than you. Right. But I mean, as a quarterback, like you're going to be thrust into that situation. That's just
how it is with Caleb. But I'm glad that he's embracing that, you know, and people are looking at him as that leader that he knows that he can be. So being vocal is a good thing. I was never that type of person. I was never a vocal guy. I was always the type, but a guy to go out there and just kind of lead by example. But we always respected people that were vocal as well. Yeah. Well, and along with being vocal and being tough, is you also have to have some fun. That's right. You got to have fun. That's what we do here. And so let's hear from from Caleb Williams on how he encourages his team to have fun as maybe a special someone might be jumping into this conversation. Yeah. One, it's, I mean, it's really freaking hard to score in the NFL. You get into games and things like that. It's, it's really freaking hard. And so let's, I mean, let's go celebrate when we do it. Two, it shows a sense of love and care for your teammates because you didn't get an end zone. You know,
you weren't the one getting an end zone. So you got to go down there celebrating, have fun and dancing, do all these things and, you know, come back to the sideline, focus up and, you know, get ready to go do it again. So it's, it's something like the spurs with Tony Parker a couple of years ago. It's like, you know, if it was the stat of like they go around and they, they slap hands more than anybody. And it's, it's those small things, those small connections, those small moments that that build up. And, you know, when it, when it comes down to in those big moments, something from those moments and slapping hands and going down and, and celebrating with your teammates, they, they show up, leading games, leading the year and things like that. And so it's important. It's, and it's, it's really important to me enough. He's covering all aspects. Whether it's, it's cutting weight, whether it's being vocal, whether it's the playbook, or you're all the right, this celebration. He's doing all the right. He is checking all the boxes and that was something that I just was very apparent throughout training camp was just watching how dialed in he was. So when we come back, we'll bring another guy into the discussion,
a professor of sorts, professor, a Tarty professor, a Tarty professor of sorts might have his own thoughts on Caleb Williams in all his glory and greatness when we come back. Football is back. That being said, I know Matrix basements has been really supportive in the, you know, the education community and one professor in particular is somebody that they really have a backing for and he's going to be joining us now. Yes, the professor is back.
But no, he plays us no way. That is the lowest grade I've given this year. That's right. You can expect you can expect Professor Briggs, Tarty, Monday at 1 p.m. Central after game days on the C H. She O bears podcast. And I'm sure he will always be on time for those things today. Of course, Professor Briggs with a little bit of tardiness, a little bit of tardiness. Not good. Yeah. Well, we're here, oh, guys, you know, we all, we all have kids, okay? Oh, unfortunately, you know, my son's far broke down and I had to, you know, had to swoop in and help get him to school today, you know. Um, just remember no matter what we do, all right? Family comes first, okay? Family comes first. Yeah, they handled that. You're father. I've used that line before too. My dog, he, my homeowner has to use here to start a program.
No, we believe you. We believe you, man. I'll be in like that. We believe you. We believe you. Well, booking into Professor two different people saw, you know, that's true. That's true. And you know, to back you up, you were texting first thing in the morning, the rise and shine. You were up and ready and I was like, I know, here we go. So like, I got your back here. It wasn't like you were absent to you were present this morning. So I got your back here. Yeah. Yeah. So listen, listen, the troll masters are out. That's that's part of what he's gonna troll me. I get it. I get it. But you jumping on that bandwagon, it really hurts me. I'm sorry. You know, I'm just trying to have fun here. And you know, it's just you're turning the bucket today. And I apologize for that. We're going to continue to have fun. Mojo Brooks should be joining us here in just a little bit. I know he's got a busy schedule. I've been working with him and his agent to jump on. And he's obviously welcome to jump on whenever he's ready to jump on.
And obviously we'll facilitate that and have some fun with Mojo. But before we get into that, Lance, you know, we were having a longer discussion there about Caleb Williams and how he's looked. You know, we've spent so much time the last few weeks talking about Kyler Gordon. Or, you know, I'm trying to convince you of all of future Hall of Famers on the Bears. But we really have not talked too much about Caleb Williams. And you guys, you know, having gotten to see too much of him outside of the five past attempts he had in the preseason. But I'm just, you know, I'm just curious from your perspective. And I know, you know, we're entering here year three. But what is your expectation for Caleb Williams? Because I know you've always been somebody that has set a pretty high standard. I know the standard is the standard with Professor Briggs. So what is the standard for Caleb Williams this season in year three? Well, it's a lot higher than Jordan Vandenberg. All right. I don't, you know, if we're doing comparisons, we're definitely can compare Caleb to a Hall of Famer.
You know, and I think that would, that's going to sit a lot better with everybody looking at the standard for Caleb this year is, is, I think it's all pro year. I think he's the guy he's, he's, he's definitely the piece or the cog that gets everything going. And, and if we are to, to have a run at the championship, he has to be number one has to be healthy. And number two, we have to be able to run the ball to help him out the best we can. And number three, he's got a plethora of weapons to go to, you know, choose your, choose your poison, pick your poison and let him go, let him go to work. Yeah, you know, earlier we won't play the video again. So, you know, if you didn't get a chance to see it, that's fine. But Ben basically said that Caleb's been less goofy here this year that he's not goofy anymore. And so I was just sure he met that with love, your thoughts. And he said he meant that with love when he was asked, he was asked what he would love.
And he's like, I don't mean that with love. I'm not sure how to take that. I think, I think if, if goofy is who you are, you know, I don't know. I don't know. I think it's, I think it's an, a term of endearment as always because it's within the locker room. And it's a coach that knows his player and the player knows his coach. Yeah. I, I honestly, I don't read into that at all. You know, there are guys that I'm sure would call, would have called me goofy, you know, that, that, that, you know, that wouldn't matter. There's guys that we'll call Anthony Adams, Anthony Adams, goofy. They would have been guys that called peanut annoying, you know, it, you know, I think that's all a part of their game, all a part of their game, you know. And so I, I, I, I, I look at it as a positive. Yeah, absolutely, absolutely. Obviously having fun with it. But, you know, you know, final thing. And then I think we'll transition over to the blueprint here. You know, as we await the arrival of Mojo Brooks, if he's able to join, of course, no pressure.
We love you, Mojo. But here is Caleb Williams talking about, you know, accepting the, you know, the players voting on him becoming a captain. Yeah, it's, it's an honor. I'm very grateful. It's the way we do it is, is our teammates select me? It's like I said, it's an honor. It's something that I don't take lightly and, you know, it's, it's, it's something that it's, it's, um, it's really cool to be honest. You know, it's been my third year in the league and I've been, I've been a captain for the, you know, the three years. And so, you know, that doesn't happen every year, doesn't happen often. And so just being able to be in this position, you know, bless. Yeah. Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. This is awesome. This is why I am, I am mad that you weren't here for a block because I knew I had all these clips and I knew each one you'd make fun of me after every one of them.
Because I'm trying to convince you how great Caleb's going to be this year and I have all the evidence in these videos. This is, this is my proof that Caleb's going to just be fantastic this year and I'm excited for you to experience that with me, you know. You know how stressed out I get throughout the season, but this is just going to be a lot of fun this year with the 50 points every, every week. Well, I love how he's searching for the answer, you know, how, how do I answer this, you know, and I think I pretty much answered it in that first opening line. And how do I elaborate? No, I don't elaborate. It's good. It's just a great time. I love it. Well, we're going to elaborate. And get to the day Caleb just play football, man. At the end of the day, we just want you to play football that win and city's going to be behind you. Well, he's certainly pretty dialed in here this summer. So excited to see what this offense looks like here in year two of the Ben Johnson,
air about year three with Caleb Williams, the number one pick, the highest man trophy winner, the Madden cover, the Iceman, the Iceman. So without further ado, that'll bring us into our blueprint to beating the Panthers. First blueprint of the season, we do these installments every single week to how to beat the Panthers. And before we get into each of our keys, let's have Ben Johnson here, Steven, set us up and kind of talk about his, you know, early viewpoint on what he sees. Obviously, I'm sure he's done a lot more than just one week, a scouting of the Carolina Panthers, but here's Ben Johnson kind of setting us up for what he expects to see out of the Panthers. And then we'll give Ben Johnson our keys to helping beat this team in terms of Carolina. You know, really looking forward to getting this thing going. It's a really good team.
Obviously made the playoffs last year. Coach Canallus has done a heck of a job there. Dan Morgan, their GM has really built up that roster from where they were a few years ago. Quality opponent defensively, just looking at their numbers. The way they ended the back half of last season, they were one of the top 10 defenses in football and they did nothing but got better through free agency in the draft. So we'll have our hands full there. They've got really star power all across the field. It seems like on that side of the ball, starting with Derek Brown, the corners are really good players. Safety's are really good players. I mean, I can go on and on and on, but you know, it'll be a significant challenge right out of the gate. And then looking at them as their offense, they've got skill players. They're really sound up front with their offense aligned. I know they took some hits with the tackle position. And yet the two guys that they have projected starting form right now are two really good players. I think it's about as good of a guard duo that you'll see in football.
They do a great job in the run game and in the past game there. And then the quarterbacks in ascending players, as far as I'm concerned. So really good test on the road, away game. We talked about it, but with our crew, we're just focused on trying to be sound and playing fast. There'll be a lot of unscouted looks here early in the season. That happens every year in September football and just want these guys to be able to cut loose and play. Yeah, we were talking about it, Briggs. He has been was going through that, but the Panthers are a scrappy team. They're a team that beat the Rams at the end of last year. That's right. And then almost beat him again in the playoffs. It might have, it was this close to being Bears Panthers at Soldier Field last year for the right to go to the NFC championship. Just fell short of that. So one thing that did set off and I want both you guys to touch on this and Lance, I'll start with you. When he said, there's just going to be a lot of unscouted looks. For the viewers that are watching that may not understand what he means by that.
Can you explain that to those? You don't have a lot of tape to go off of. You're going off of last year's tape, you know, and so for the 2026 year, you have a 2026 team. You know, there are things that you have to you have to reach for as far as let's say canalists. What's his history? What's his what's his tree? You know, these are the things this is the tree he comes from. This is what they believe have always believed in. And that's what he comes from. And that's what we're building off of this first game. Now, once you get to game two and game three, now you have tape on what the 2026 team is this year. So now you have something to go off of. Okay, this is what they are. They are staying true to who they were in 2025 or they've come up with some different wrinkles in 2026. But there's still things that stay true to 2025. So this being un, un, what do you call undocumented looks, meaning 2026 team is not the 2025 team. Let's find out how close they are to it.
The last you've talked so much about how you were a student of tendencies. And that's how you prepped throughout the week and how you were able to, you know, jump so many routes and and be back in the line of scrimmage and jump that be gaff. So I'm curious then from that standpoint, when you're looking at tendencies, how hard was that for you in those first few weeks to try to find those little margins? It's not hard, you know, especially when you have, you know, I was with Greg Blotts at the time, you know, and and and most good defensive coordinators. First thing you do is you talk personnel. You said you talk personnel. So I'd already seen the team that we're playing. Let's say that that first, my first start was the Raiders. So when he started to break down the offensive linemen who were dealing with the tight ends, the running backs. All it was was peace together with my brain was already seeing on field. Okay. And before we even get to, you know, hey, this is how they're going to attack us.
When he breaks down the personnel, it explains why, you know, Steve Smith for the Carolina Panthers is getting the ball 10 times more than the next player. And since he's getting the ball 10 times more than the next player, these are the routes that you have to be aware of, especially on these downs and distances. So it's, it's one of those deals, man, where yeah, okay, if, if it's a run, I know exactly where I'm going to fit. I'm going to play it fast. But if it's a pass, I'm going to plant my foot. I'm headed right to the area where I know that Steve Smith runs the most highest percentage. That's the area where he's going to be. So I need to be there if I want to make a play. Yeah. I mean, the first game is always difficult, obviously, because you don't really know, but you have a sense. You have an idea of what how they're going to attack you, but it all comes down to like Lance was talking about like Tennessee's and teams have probably about five or 10 Tennessee's that they like to run in certain situations. It's up to you to kind of dissect that and figure it out and anticipate what's going to happen to you. So Lance is exactly right. I mean, if you're dialed in and you're logged in, you start to, you start to fill the game because you're in the game.
And things will start to happen if you're if you're in tune to to see certain things. Okay. All right. Well, then that brings us to the blueprint to beating the panthers. Ben, you know, obviously has his plans. But without us, I don't think the bears make the playoffs last year. So we're here to continue to provide the help that we can to give here. And so breaks you're up first as you always are to your two keys to your two keys to beat the panthers. Well, well, you know, start fast on offense, you know, start the season the right way. You know, everybody's looking toward this offense. Caleb Williams, all these weapons, start fast. You know, let's get them behind the ball playing from behind, you know, and it starts with that opening drive, whether we return the kick or we drive right down and put points on the board. I think that's important for us. And on that topic, I actually, you know, we were you were a little bit of symmetry with Caleb Williams, the captain, who's dialed in and ready for this big year.
And here's Caleb Williams talking about starting fast. I think for all games, but you know, since this is our first one, it's the most important. And so just being able to try and get out there, set the tone, start fast, get a couple of completions, you know, run the ball well early on, have great communication on the field, but you know, on the sideline and things like that. I'm a stand level head. I think it's going to be a big piece of it, you know, as a team and as a collective. And so, you know, bad things going to happen, you know, and you know, the severity of the bad, you know, we can, we can, you know, sort of control, but those moments that you can, it's like I said, being level head and, you know, controlling yourself and you had a team energy. Super important. Starting fast is definitely important. I mean, this team last year, they didn't start fast, you know, and they kind of waited to the fourth quarter to like start winning games. I don't want to see that right now, but I want to see is I want to see them executing their offensive game plan immediately. I want to see them firing off the ball and get it into an established rhythm. That's exactly what I want to see right away.
Lance, would you consider, you know, shaving your mustache to make it look like Caleb's mustache like if Caleb throws for 5,000 yards, can we get the Caleb mustache? You know, I just think this could be a trend. It's just thought that came across. I'm not. I'm not one of those kind of guys. You know, but it sounds like a lot of fun. It sounds like something you should definitely. Right. You don't have to agree to it. We'll just agree to it with if Caleb throws for 5,000 yards. That's a big number. Lance, you never agreed. You never agree to these bets. If he gets 5,000 yards, both of us are doing the Caleb Williams mustache. All three of us. You can't do that. You can't. You can't do that. The production meeting like this. If he does 5,000, we're all doing it while I'm getting split in an eyebrow.
All right. You're second key to beating the Panthers. All right. Let's get to defense. I my first thought was was to stop the run, but hey, hell tell us it. Score on defense, man. Score on dog on defense and remind them of who the monsters of the midway really are. They were really good at that last year. You know, and they want some games because of that. So you're exactly right. You know, taking the ball away is one thing, but putting the ball in the end zone is another. And they need to put the ball in the end zone on defense. I think the defensive questions and who they're going to be and what they look like. I think it's over there. Very fascinating. I can. I think the coaching staff is trying to sell that they're better than we think. And so I'm all for that. I'm all for that. I'm certainly nervous about certain things. But let's see if they're flying around. You know, I mean, if they're flying around, good things will happen. So well, they're on a reenerkeys. They should be okay.
They're on a reenergated zone. They have a Tommy Harris out there. Oh, I'm going to be. We're going to be all right. Tommy Harrison, a rotation. That's what I'm saying. It's so exciting. Here this Sunday. The next Tommy Harris. The reality. The reality spray is over there by the TV. And that's why I've just been running amuck today because it hasn't been. I haven't been threatened with it. So all right, Jerry. Let's get into your your keys. What's your first key? You got the very first key on offense is to run the ball. You know, um, established a run right away and moved that line of scrimmage. You know, you want to get guys a hat on a hat. You want to get guys moving forward and take some of that pressure off a Caleb. Like he doesn't need all that pressure. So hand that ball off to Swift. Hand it off to my non guy or whoever's back there and establish that run early. You know, get downhill and make this this game physical. I want to see this game be physical at the point of attack and the bears definitely have the office of lines to do that and move some guys.
It was a strength that they had last year. So they need to build on that strength and establish it right away. Absolutely. Absolutely. All right. Let's get into your second key here and keep kicking this thing around. The second key is the DB. So, you know, the secondary is a little bit shaky because of injuries and uncertainty and things like that. But they can they have an opportunity where they can get aggressive. Look, they're going to be in man to man coverage. So I want to see these these corners walk up and bump these Y receivers. Don't turn this thing into a track me because they have some pretty good Y receivers over there that can get the job done. Get up get up in their face, bump them, get your hands on them, get them on the line of scrimmage and take away routes right away. That's what I want to see. I want to see them be extremely aggressive with these Y receivers. I think those are both two very good keys. I think the weather conditions are going to and just being that it's the beginning of the year. I think you definitely want to run the ball and figure the rest out later. You know what you have in your run game and fear the bears and then from the secondary standpoint, if you watch the Panthers last year.
I just think simplisticly put that you get them in a lot of third and long. They seem to find themselves in a lot of third and longs. And so then that to your point, I think is where the corners I think need to take advantage and be aggressive. Right. And slow those routes down and that might give them. And we know that what they're going to call they're going to call a lot of man to man. So they have the opportunities to walk up there and start bumping in pressing. And I really want this game to be physical for the Chicago Bears. I mean, they have the person now to do it. Now they just got to go out there and execute it. Absolutely. Absolutely. Alright. So let me hear quickly here. Got a couple minutes here before we take our final time out. So my my keys here. This is a simple one. I know this is crazy. It's not crazy. This is very important. This is how we're going to start the year. Steven. And if we win the toss, they better choose to defer. I don't know how you two feel about this lands. Jerry, but when you win the toss, you kick the ball. You rely on your defense to set the tone.
And then you get the ball on offense to start the second half. That's what you do. You let the defense. Demarco Jackson hits somebody in the mouth. That's how you start your season. Yes, your question. What is your strength of this football team? The offense or the defense? It's the offense. So you want them to start second. Yes. Okay. Got it. We're going to set the tone on deep. Well, and I have to think strategically it's smarter because your offense. It always takes everybody's offense a minute to get going. Right? Like the idea that you okay. Would ideally is it going to be great that your offense comes out hits the ground seven. Nothing start the game. Sure. But it's even better if you get that three and out. And now you're scoring points. Now you put them on the eight ball and you get the ball. It's a multiplier. It sounds good. A whole bunch of ifs. If it was a fifth, we'd all be drunk and I happened to be partaking in a lot of fine spirits. The last night shout out to break through Brewerge for a fun night. You know, a fun night. You told me in tailgate. Yes, typically you want to defer and let your see.
Deep, deep, deep, and go out and set the tone. This. You know, get week one. I think you're agree with you, Brex. I agree with you. Now week two, week two, depending on how both of those units play. I think we might have to come out and say, Hey, we might want the ball to start it off. So reason being my final point on this and my final key is because the middle eight is so important. You defer to get that middle eight booster in the middle of the game. Ben Johnson has talked so much about how important that is for this team this year to get the end of the first half really settled in where they're executing scoring points and then turning that over in the second half. You get the ball to start the second half. That's how you get those middle eight multipliers. We're going to round third here on the brick by brick podcast and we'll bring you our world renounce segment. What in the world coming up next? The only reason I even bring up his name is because he started a sentence by saying I agree with Briggs and that's how you make the program the bears should give up no points and then have the offense score touchdown don't just do it on the first drives do it on all the drives I didn't realize you was a smart ass I put his it was a bait and switch he just did the Trojan horse where he did the I agree with Briggs and I pull it up and then he was making fun of me at the end

yep play the chiefs it was incredible I saw my my parents and they were like I can't believe this this is crazy it was awesome what was your what was your first snap my first snap was in the fourth quarter I think Walter Harris got her and then I had to get up there and I didn't really know what I was doing I was still a runner back at the time but I had to cover Andre Ryzen wow there you go it's interesting yeah I don't really know how that go it went well we won the game okay yeah there you go yeah they didn't throw his way because I had to get these hands on them strap season how about you how about you Lance your favorite week one memory 26 zero gives green bay open up um and I mean we did we me and Alex Brown we had the uh the water bucket and we were gonna douse um lovey with it and we went to go pour the bucket over him and there was like
a little bit a bit of water still in there and we pretty much banged him on the head with it and I was like oh gone it you know even though the moment like this supposed to be great we had to kind of take him away from us a little bit that's the good that's the goofy the goofy the goof my favorite week one memory was when the bears played the cults week one Andrew Luxe first ever start at soldier field the big bad Andrew Luxe comes the town I don't go for him we're tailgating over at the McCormick uh lots that were like we're the semi-s park on the other side it's a good lot it's a long walk but you go under these tunnels like 31 yeah we used to call it the tunnel of love and it was it was like a hyped crazy lot why was it the tunnel of love uh because when you're in there you would chant green bay sucks or whatever and so it's it's it's a you know and it's not much love
going on you know it's it's a lot of hatred towards the rivals in green bay but my memory of that game was halfway through or like an hour and a half before kickoff there's like 15 of us tailgating and we've been going all morning like hard hard we got we're grillin the droggle baws we got the setup we plan this for months we're drunk we're gonna have a do you have one I'm wearing my I got my brags 25 on my wife for my 25th birthday got me a customized bear jersey with my name on the back because I ain't going nowhere and then everybody kept asking me why I have a Garrett wolf jersey on like a lot of care wolf jersey we got to have him on the show too uh and so then all of a sudden an hour and a half before the game my friend Kevin goes I left the tickets at home Kevin and I'm like that's funny bro there I can't what serious I'm like I'm gonna rip your head off
and anarchy broke out from this point on like who's gonna go get the tickets how do we we don't have enough time to go back to northwest Indiana get our tickets get back and make it in time for the game now half are going to the stadium begging the ticket master people to like print us new tickets to let us go in hmm how it was just chaos we all ended up figuring out long story short we got into the game and there you go then the bears in Lance Briggs and company dominated the Indian apolis Colts beat the brakes yeah off Andrew Luck I also think I scored a touchdown did you score to shot the game I think you're right no no no that was in India that was in India in India yeah in India right after that was when I think Forte had one but Alshon had to bomb yeah down the middle of the seam from Cutler and that was a year right Alshon maybe maybe it's a
bit like that but that was a great game and it ended on a good note but Kevin made things interesting and hour and a half before the game so that's my week one memory so that that about wraps things up I think here today Mojo was not unfortunately I know I teased this and I got everybody excited and I'm sorry but he absolutely will join us here during the season so don't worry and I told him it was no pressure at all we are we we we we have to go check out one of his shows we absolutely have to check out one of his shows and you know what just for sake thank you for dialing up because he does have two shows here this weekend so let me make sure I get this right for Mojo so we can properly give this shot out here I still haven't been to a Mojo show yet yeah he is going to be in Chicago here Saturday and Sunday so make sure you're looking that up and getting tickets to both those shows but I'm sure that's at the Winx trust arena you're going to be lucky you're going
to be hard pressed to get in that building he doesn't need much promotion for us this guy is as big as it gets so he's killing it and he is he's a great dude and a huge bears fan so entertaining the entertaining all of Chicago while we're enjoying a bears game here on Sunday hey and don't forget October 21st I'm doing a book science challenge here thank you Lance we've got all this up thank you thank you I apologize for this Lance so why don't you walk us through this because well I know I don't get mad at me I said I was sorry okay I said I'm sorry thank you for reminding me and not just ending the show that would have been rude so why don't we've got the graphics Stevens got it ready why don't you walk us through the police this announcement because I actually had somebody in our discord asking about what you're doing still in the comic book industry yeah so you know obviously my comic book it's it's being released to the stores
officially now through image comics but let's go to kind of to kind of give you a breakdown of it you know listen the trap it's it's it's an original science fiction sports thriller written by myself New York Times seller Kyle Higgins art by Danilo Beirut and Tamara Bond Bellin it tells the story of a prominent young athlete who gets pulled into a dangerous world of crime as he rises higher and higher in the sport it's an expansive sci-fi universe that puts Chicago in the center of a galaxy full of spaceships aliens interstellar sports and all the things I'll be doing a book signing October 21st it challenges in Chicago and I can't wait to do it it's really exciting and it's gonna build from there onto the next volume. Bro congratulations man that's fantastic congratulations man that's big time. We're not just football players we're not just football players we do other things all right we have a challenge you're not just a football player Lance you're my friend
you're professing you're my you are my friend Lance Briggs and I go around telling everyone that anyone that I meet they don't even have to they don't even ask and I'm just like hi I'm Greg Briggs and Lance Briggs is my friend yeah we lay bricks to death I would actually I have thought about this and whatever we got to do if there's a brick layer that watches this show like I would love to bring these guys out on a job site like we can probably just walk up on any random brickies and they probably let us do some stuff but I think it'd be fun to get you guys on a job site and show you what the bricks are all about you know first it really sound like fun to me you know what you'd be surprised I'll be at the bar watching you guys brick it is well you know what can we can we bring our lunch can we get like the igloo lunchpills and stuff like that just like this you know yeah absolutely absolutely we bring lunch and we're gonna work hard and we're gonna
learn how to lay brick and and well let me know what you guys are done with that yeah you know what you'll come around you'll come around you'll come around no you don't have a super chat you know from around Brotalicious here from Brotalicious five dog super chat says I like this new live format with Briggs and Azuma Briggs keep it up and bear down obviously we'll continue to be live throughout the season on the brick by brick post game shows those will be following every post game show for CHO bears throughout the season so you get two post game shows here on the CHO sports channel first CHO bears immediately following the game these guys jump in for a segment during that show which is a player's only segment with Corey Wooten as well so that's a lot of fun and then we run it back with the brick by brick post game show so you've got endless amount of content and reactions following the game and we are always live for those post games but
yes now we are live on Thursday mornings as well so glad you like it Brotalicious and everyone else that's to NIN Kevin Dicca here in the chat um Steven thank you for pulling up that schedule we've got a lot of great programming here coming up the rest of the week obviously C.H.O bears coming up at five o'clock here tonight or this evening before Thursday night football kicks off and then tomorrow Hogan Johns on your Fridays as always and then C.H.O bears after dark on Friday night featuring Joey Kirstopolis and Patrick Norton excited for those guys to kick off their version of C.H.O bears after dark preview edition of each game each week and then obviously all the game day content from pregame to post game to the brick by brick post game show so there it is that's what we got for you the rest of the week Kevin Dicca I see you here in the chat nice meeting you as well
