00Here we go. Gold falling, but there's a war on. What about the safety trade workout in? For God to tell you, got a crossover skip. Progress on that book being made is my subscription to the office over and podcaster, John C Divorak is in the hospital. Folks, Tuesday, March 5, 2026, I'm Steven Syresky Canadian to expat typically currently not expat. I'm very much patted, not expatted at the moment. I'm in padded as I am currently in the midst of a Canadian winter arranging for the next Chinese dream to begin. I guess this would be Chinese dream 3.0 Chinese dream 2.0 started 2017. China 1.0 was back in 2014 when I first got over there, but the big surprise today was so I listened to a podcast
03that I've talked about before. It's actually one of the places I get a lot of my news information from a lot of the different sources and things like that from around the world or different news clips. It's the no agenda show put on by Adam Curry and John C Divorak and they do it twice a week and I think it's a phenomenal podcast to listen to. They do not do video podcasting. They do only audio and they run it live Sundays and Thursdays and then they publish the finished MP3. Now, I have recently been listening to them live because I enjoy the way they start the show. It's an experience and I say that because what they end up doing is that they start broadcasting 1 p.m. Central time. You don't have to figure out what time it is for you, but 1 p.m. Central time, Central North American time and what they typically do, they do a little bit of mic testing and everything and they have their own no agenda
04stream as what they call it and it's just 24-7 different programs that people are putting on to the stream. They usually have a pre show as well filled with music and little stuff like that and usually this music has some sort of satirical bent to it so it'll sound like a pop music number, but it'll be written in a very different style and what they end up doing is that to intro the show, I think is it the right of the velcaries that they play? I mean, I should check that. I've meant to check it before. What is the song that no agenda plays be for the show? I think it's rather velcaries. It's a very famous song. Does it? No, I can't. It's not a simple Google search away. Basically, it's either right of the velcaries or something along the lines. No one if you heard it and as it ends, Adam Curry does this sort of pre-game
08where pre show, Mike Tess and stuff like that and then there's a little bit of a lull and then John C. DeVore comes in and says, hit it and that's when they start the intro music. I mean, I actually, I'll tell you, I tune in live just to hear that first 10 to 15 minutes of them. I can listen to the rest after. They don't publish everything that happens before the show begins. So that's the stuff that you can only get live. That's kind of neat. Well, so anyway, I tune in live today. I'm at the gym and it's 1 o'clock or just after 1. So he's doing the right of the velcaries and everything. He's doing his vocal warm-ups and you still don't hear anything from the other half. So there's two guys again, Adam Curry, who lives in Austin, Texas and John C. DeVore, who lives in the northern Silicon Valley in California and the right of the velcaries ends and Curry's like, can somebody cue me? Can someone say, hit it, troll
12room, whatever? No one ever does. So he just starts the episode and then as the episode begins after the intro music, John C. DeVore's wife comes on the show. This has never happened before. So that's when they get into the discussion like, where's John? And apparently he was getting some blood work done and the doctor's like, we need to operate. And he's like, what? So I guess I was at yesterday or sometime in the last couple of days. He has gone into the hospital and is undergoing a double bypass heart surgery. So that's what's kind of surprising. And again, since the broadcast live, I'm guessing Adam Curry did get a notification before he said he was called by another podcast or prior to recording. So he knew about it. But it certainly was kind of like a little bit shocking because this guy at John C. DeVore, although he's a bit older, like he's in his 70s, I guess,
13he always he sounds very young. He doesn't sound like he's got any problems or anything like that. And so what they ended up doing for today's show was doing two hours of exit strategies. And these are kind of funny because at the beginning, Adam Curry and John C. DeVore's wife, Mimi, are talking about whether it's a good idea or not, regardless, they're going to play the show anyway. But whether it's a good idea or not to play the episodes about exit strategies or talk about exit strategies because it affects their donations. And this caught me thinking about my podcast here. I go, you know, I talk about money quite a bit. I talk about stocks and gold and all these different business ideas. I wonder if it hurts my donations. I wonder if people listen to this and go, he's talking about the stock market. He doesn't need my money. Folks, all I can say to that is that if you want to be part of history and you want to help with the research that goes
20into this podcast into the scripting, some of the software, the post-production or the production of this here podcast. And you, you know, if you want to produce your credit, I'll give that to you. There's a PayPal link in the show notes for all episodes that I publish. You can send through a little bit of a donation, whatever you think it's worth. I mean, 420, 490, wherever you want to put the decimal from the far left to the far right. Both all are accepted. So PayPal link in the show notes for this episode. Now, so it doesn't sound like a John C. Divorak is going to be back anytime soon. Like, well, sorry, he'll be back within like next week or so, but he's going to have to have time to recover. So this week's episode of the Noah Jenner show, the Thursday episode is just an exit strategy show. And I guess on Sunday, they're going to have a different best of. This is actually a little bit disappointing because, as I mentioned before, this is a podcast that I listened to to get a lot of my news sources from.
26When you hear me talking about like the sort of conspiracy theory ideas of the CIA being active in Alberta, Canada, this is where I'm getting a lot of this sort of these ideas from because this is what they talk about. And this is what I would say that they excel in is the deconstruction of Western media, especially not just how to piece things together, but how to deconstruct, to point out where the mainstream media, what they call the M5M basically have received, talking points from their handlers, usually the government or the CIA or something like that, someone else, like basically the government or whatever party is sort of looking to get an angle in the media, they just talk these points over. And this is how we sort of, this is admirable because they point this out. This is plain as ever. You could tune into any mainstream media outlet
26and they will all say the same thing. Hello, Trump bashing. That's, I mean, it's most noticeable when you bring up Trump. It's just hate, bad, no good, bad, bad, bad, bad. There's talking points. I mean, and you can see how they've kind of fed the media, they've saturated the media with that sort of narrative. And it's very hard to counter that because at the water cooler where you're going here, but like, what's he done wrong? I mean, it's not like he's commanding the army. Oh, but he, and so there's that blame, that personal blame when he does it, but if another party does it, oh, well, you know, it's the government, it's the machine, it's the system, blah, blah, blah. So this also very much makes me think of China because when people say you can't trust media in China, I go, can you trust it anywhere? It's, it's very, now the difference between like China and North America is that here in North America, you can make a podcast, you can publish a blog,
33you can write a book, you can have a YouTube channel all for free. You can do this all for free. Of course, you are the product. You are going to have ads run against it and everything, but a lot's of freedom to say whatever you want, do whatever you want, and publish just about whatever you want and hard to sort of argue with that type of freedom. So best wishes to John C. DeVorick. Hope he gets well. Yeah, recuperates sooner than later and hopefully he's back on air within the next couple of shows. Gold falling, but there's a war on WTF. Gold is supposed to be a safe haven trade. Why isn't it safe now? Why is it when bombs go to Iran that gold stops being a safe haven? Shouldn't it continue being a safe haven? Even more now that two leaders,
36two world leaders, the United States has taken out two world leaders in the last two months. This should have other people a bit concerned. I was not mad at Trump, maybe me out of Trump, but I mean, kind of one of those things you're kind of going, ha, has this ever happened before in the history. So, but regardless, gold falling, ignico, eagle, a major North American gold miner down 10% already from 350 down to 300. It's actually more than 10% dropping 350 to 320 or 300. I can't remember. It's going to fall further. This is not advice to buy yourself. Talk with your financial advisor qualified person about your money. It's your money. Your problem don't blame me, but it's falling. Same with silver. Gone. Why Chinese are selling? Why are they selling? Safe haven trade. WTF. Now, I have talked about earlier in the week how I noticed that Chinese stocks are energy stocks, electricity stocks,
39DNZ, so electric batteries, not so much as the battery companies, but the electric companies are doing really well. And the electric ETF was doing well. Same with coal. I guess also, I think Uranium was doing well, but that's mostly in Canada. But in China, it seems that the energy stocks are doing really well. Canadian energy stocks, I've talked about this before how gold and energy kind of trade inversely to each other and that not only that with the price of gold being so high, the price of the US dollar was so low and there was going to be a reversion to the mean. There was going to be a flip at some point. Now, we're seeing it in March instead of like January or February, just kind of a it's odd to see it at this time, but I'm also kind of looking at a one-year chart and I've pointed this out before that it seems that whenever there's a big drawdown
43in one month, one year later, it will happen sooner or later. By that, I mean, last year, 2025, the big drop happened kind of throughout March and then plunged in April. Well, now we're seeing something similar happen. Are we going to see a plunge in April or is it going to be March, or is it going to be stymied and put off until May? Don't know. I don't know. Do the market makers know? Possibly. Where are they holding their bets? How do you find out? Usually you can check bid lots or ask lots and you know, the different volumes or put call ratios is another thing. Options ratios, options trading or futures trading. That can that usually tell you giving you an indication of where the price can move but is not 100% sort of viable to predict any sort of future. Why is gold falling and not a safe haven? I have no idea. This is always puzzled
48me when people will say that gold is falling or gold is going up because of safe haven trading going, okay, but there's nothing really going on. Okay, there's the Greenland thing. Was that the issue? Russian invading Ukraine, okay. But then all of a sudden Iran gets bombed and gold falls. So no one cares about what that tells me is that the world thinks that Iran getting bombed is normal. That things are back to normal because they're selling gold. That's horrible. You people are horrible. That is terrible. My heart goes out to the Iranians, which by the way, I found out that one of the girls at the office is actually from Iran. So did not talk to her about the current situation. I figured it'd be kind of awkward to bring that question up. So again, I don't know gold falling. We've been talking about this for the last little while. I've been talking about it for the last year and a half. That gold's going to fall. It's over, but it should fall. And it has had some pullbacks, but not until what January of this year, did we see that 10% plunge in January?
55Then February, we saw another big pullback. And now we're finally seeing not just gold turnover, but the gold stocks are turning over. And this is something that Adam Hamilton over on zealllc.com talks about that there's going to be a bludgeoning. It has to happen. This happens very regularly, especially when you see sectors go to you four levels as they did. It also means that according to history, which he talks about in quite a few of his essays recently, gold is not going to consolidate higher for a fifth time. It pins itself at four times. It hits some sort of ratio that was really high since 19, whatever it was, 1980 something, and is now rolling over. So how long is this going to take to play out? No idea. Next big gold seasonal good time is typically April, April into May and then again into the summer months and then towards the end
59of the year as well. So there's a few more times that gold can increase from here, but keep in mind, it's already down from its January peak. So if you bought leading into that January peak and are now sitting at 10%, typically I've talked about stop losses before in stock trading. If you want to have a tight stop, it's a 5% loss, sorry, 5% drop from whatever point that you put it in or a 10%. So you could have it as a 5% loss overall, which is that means you actually are losing money or, for example, if you bought it at, let's just pick a number, if you bought it at 100 and it went to 120, but you put a 5% stop loss on there, that means it would get kicked out, that means you would sell at around what, 115 or so, maybe 114 somewhere around there. If it drops 5% from whatever the most recent top price was, then automatically gets an execute de-order automatically
05goes through. If you don't have that in place, if you don't have any stop losses in place, a trailing stop is what it's called. So it just, it follows the price, the close, the price of the close. If you don't have that in place, then yeah, you're probably looking at your stocks going, but it'll go back up, right? Yes, eventually they can, relatively speaking, all the stocks have returned to their previous highs, because they're all higher than they were even 10 years ago. That might not make you feel good, but that's how it is. So it depends on your risk tolerance, your appetite for these type of drawdowns. And honestly, smart money management, making sure that you are aware of just what can happen in a situation like this when sell-offs do occur. So again, this is not professional trading advice. Do your own research. Talk to the professionals before making any decisions. It's your money, your problem. And if you've made some money on the gold trade so far, keep in mind there's a PayPal link in the show notes for this episode.
07Did get a workout in today? And I forgot to tell you, I had some progress there as well. I got a crossover skip done. Yay me. Thank you. What am I talking about? Well, a couple of weeks ago, I saw this guy doing crossover rope work. And I was kind of like, I have never done that before. I can do double lunges. And double lunges took me a good year to get. I noticed a lot of boxers do the crossover jump rope as well. This YouTube lady skipping lady that I talked about was yesterday, a couple days ago, Lauren jumps. She does them all the time and she only started skipping in 2020. So six years ago, hopefully it doesn't take me six years to do this. But in doing that, I asked this boxer dude, boxer guy, hey, how do you actually do these crossover resist? Just keep this in mind. Keep it the same pace and blah, blah, blah. There's no special trick to it.
09I guess he's right. The thing about doing a crossover like this or even a double under, but more so the crossover because the crossover you're not trying to go too fast, you're trying to keep the same pace and just move your arms across. There's a tendency to rush it. So you end up pushing a little bit and that can throw your gate off or your jump off, which means it then screws up and hopefully hits your shoe and doesn't snap your back. Because when it snaps against your back, it hurts as I have found out several times, double-unders. I used to get whipped all the time. My hands were my hands and my arms were whipped constantly from trying to get the double-unders going. It doesn't happen as much now, but enough for me to know that if I'm getting tired, it's better just to stop and to reload or to refresh, reset rather than try to push forward and whip myself any harder than it can happen.
10But I did get one complete crossover and by that, I mean while it at pace, I was skipping, crossed my arms over and then crossed them back and continued skipping. I'm like, they're done. Got it. Took me two weeks to get the first one done, but proof of concept and hopefully the beginning of a new skill that'll be able to implement in my skipping routine, my rope work routine for what? Just for challenges, I guess. So it was a back day today, got shoulder press in Rose, Barbell Rose as well. Did some heavy lifts and then some accessory work as well. But hour, hour and a half in the gym, why not? And then off to the office. Is this my last day? This actually, I didn't realize this month, the last month has gone by really quick. I've been just saying, hell, fastest entire year has gone so far. It's very, I mean,
12fast. But was it children experience that time faster than adults or how is it? I can't remember the experience. It's slower. But these days, I mean, I swear we experience, it's not that we experience it any faster. It's just that we have so many more things that we have to keep on going. And we are responsible for all of them that there's no, there's no one other than your boss or maybe your significant other, your wife or maybe your kids that they are sort of, they have expectations upon you. But even with that, I mean, the expectations on yourself, like you are the propellant in your life, you have to get out of bed. Like no one's, maybe no one's coming to get you out of bed. If you became just, if you're like no kids, you're on your own, do it. I don't care. Same with like no wifey, no way. No, you go make breakfast. Like you could do that. You are your own impetus to do stuff, to get up and get out of bed each
17in every morning. No one is going to tell you to do it. Now, there might be repercussions for not getting out of bed, but that's a different argument altogether. Now, all that being said, office, my office subscription has, I think, come to an end. I got on that and feel about not getting out of bed because this past month, I've been on what's called a 21 day cool working challenge at the co-working space. It started February 6th, which overlapped by one week my original subscription. So I hope and I assume that they're going to honor one more week, but I cannot be guaranteed of that, which then means that if it started February 6th, it either ends today or tomorrow. Now, that was a good deal. It was 40 bucks for the month. Apparently, I was the only one who signed up. I'm fine with that. I don't care. But that pretty much means
17my office space is over. Of course, I could renew. I could get another one. I mean, it's not the end of the world, but it does sort of signal like, you know, one month was sort of the goal. You got two months. Are you ready yet, Stephen? Are you ready yet to return to the China? To which I would say I haven't booked a ticket yet, but you know what? To be honest, it's one of these things I got kind of going, booking a ticket is something that I usually do like two or three days before I leave just because I feel that there's no real need to do it. There's also like, I don't debating on what I'm going to actually take with me. Matter of fact, this year, this whole year is probably going to be centered around on cleaning stuff up. Like here in Winnipeg, I get rid of a bunch of stuff in Beijing. I have to get rid of a bunch of stuff just to purge to lighten the load, lighten the burden, to get rid of
23some things that have been accumulating and making sure that I have the space, not just to live, but also to think as well and getting by getting rid of some of these things. It'd be easier to operate more freely, globally rather than settled or situated stuck into a place just like Beijing or just like Winnipeg. So I'm not saying I'm going to forego all of my possessions and go live off the land. No, no. I have not been working towards that sort of future at all. And I don't even know if I'd enjoy that if it were to happen. But certainly by being able to lighten, lighten up on a few of the material things, getting rid of a few things, really taking stock of what I have, what I need, and what I want to have around me. So that has to happen in two places this year, not just one fantastic. Speaking of progress,
31I have been working on this book that I guess was a couple of days ago I mentioned that I bought this book right, A Must Read by AJ Harper. This is a, basically, she's a ghost writer who has written lots of books that you've probably seen and probably read. It sounds like she's wrote a written mostly for like personal development people, which maybe you see it that way. I kind of go, those books aren't really, I mean, yeah, they're okay. But how many personal development books can you actually, do you actually look at and go, yeah, that's a good one to read? I mean, most of them are pretty garbage to tell you the truth. Which she talks about, not personal development, but how books that are kind of written and published. But this idea that it's a new type of calling card, a new type of business card, like you have to have a book published. It's just you need it done in days, not months or years. She kind of
36addresses all of that within like the first five, 10 pages or something. You can't rush this process if you want a book that is a must read, hence the title of the book. Now, for me, I'm kind of looking at this book that I cobbled together or the idea, the rough draft of this book that I started putting together in December of 2024 or October, November of 2024, with the idea that I would publish the transcripts from my YouTube channel. Now, I haven't done this yet. It's something that I've compiled, I've even had people help me put things together and organize stuff. Today, I finally sat down to do two things. Number one, read this right arrest, right, a must read book, gone through the first 40 or 50 pages in which
37you start talking about your, it's an ideal, ideal reader or the avatar, something along with who are you writing for? Basically, and so I wrote that out. I know exactly who I'm writing for, or thereabouts. It's not for everybody. It's not for people who probably never learned a language maybe for them, but possibly for people who have learned another language and are motivated, but they're busy, they're ambitious, but they kind of think that they don't have the time, or that they don't have the commitment, they don't have the energy to do it. I'm like, you could figure it out. If I can do it, I can show you exactly what to do when to do it and how to do it. I will give you a list of exercises, pick one, do them for 15 minutes, basically. That's the idea that I have for the book and the ideal avatar. The ideal reader is someone who is busy, who wants to learn another language, but thinks that they just don't have the time or the energy to do it. Yes, you do. Let me show you. So we did that, and there was also another part,
40there was another part, we did the idea reader. Oh, core message. What is your core message? What's your book actually about? In one sentence, maybe two, possibly three, but keep it to two, sort of thing. One sentence, what is your transformational message in your book, and I'm kind of like, you have the time. You have the same time as everybody, you have the time, the learn language, it's not that difficult, but showing up consistently is very difficult. So we started talking about that, and working through that. Then I'm like, wait a minute, I'm writing this all out by hand, on pen and paper, sort of thing. I could use Chatchee PT, taking a picture of this stuff, and then asking Chatchee PT to write it, nah, that's cheating. That's, no, no, no, however, I'm looking at this manuscript, this draft, 80 pages or something. I have two spreadsheets full of YouTube video transfer. I shouldn't say YouTube video. I have two spreadsheets of video transcripts,
43500 entries or something like that. From the last four or five years already, since 2022, when I started the language vlog on YouTube. I put all this into Chatchee PT and say, what do you make of this? It's spits out. It's like, you got actually three books here, but we can work on the first one, which is all about learning the mechanics of learning another language and by mechanics. I mean, how do you actually sit down as an adult, as a human, and a portion of your time so you can learn another language in a reasonable amount of time? And it pulls out 50 different script titles that I have written before or published. I'm going, okay, and it says, well, you've placed these all as question marks, which is great for YouTube, but doesn't work in a book format. You need to make it more declarative rather than interrogative. Okay, good enough. It means making more of a sentence statement, a statement
45like sentence rather than a question. Okay, gotcha. But you're also going to have to rewrite a lot of this because it's sort of very too casually conversational. So you have to rewrite it for book format, and this will probably take you two or three months in one. So that's not the end of the month. Paycheck that I was looking for, but I see what you mean. And I can't go back to this right or must read book. I'm going, okay, so and she's saying it'll take years to develop a book. And I'm sitting here going, you know, technically, I guess the YouTube videos were kind of the first draft compiling it at the end of 2024 was the second draft. Looking at it again and making some adjustments again was 2025. That's third draft. Now I've put even more videos together into going, I'm now on the fourth draft of this book that I'm looking at going, I'm getting sick of this. I'd like to just get this thing done already. So at some point, I have to take all the titles that
46ChatGPT has nicely organized. And I'll be fully honest. I'm going to copy and paste my transcript into ChatGPT, use the cleanup pass filter that I have, probably run it through a couple more of the the different writing prompts that I have. And by and large, in theory, I should be able to have the fourth draft, if not fifth draft done by tomorrow or the end of the weekend. I don't know, but it seems like it shouldn't take that long. But in saying that, I know what is going to take me a long time. Because as I was asking ChatGPT, how do I match up against these other so bigs in the space? And it goes, yeah, maybe this book fluent forever by Gabriel Wynn, I think it is weren't that one seems to be very commonly referred to when people want to learn another language. The problem with that book is that it's overly academic. Not only that, I can break it down for you, flashcards, space repetition, just vocabulary, flashcards,
53go through them at the sort of times, varying times, and review them on a regular basis. That's it. It's a little bit more complicated than that. I mean, it goes into a lot more depth and it has a lot more article citations. And I would give in this sort of situation. And certainly far more than I would be giving in my book, my book is literally, I'm looking at it going, you're going to read a page. And if it doesn't inspire you to literally do your language studies right then and there, then I would think that I've failed. So it's going to be practical. It's going to be actionable. And it's going to be something you're going, that's it. That's so easy. Like, I could have written this book. I want you to think that. That is what I'm aiming for. I want you to read this book and go, I could have done that because it's true. You could have, you could have also started YouTube channel four years ago. You could start it this year. Why aren't you? Any number of reasons? You tell me what's holding you back from starting your own YouTube channel, your own podcast,
54or your own book. What is it? I've got, I've counted four drafts. I mean, I'm being generous with what a draft is, but it's taking years. It has taken years. So hopefully, hopefully we get it done this year. End of month might be a little bit of a stretch, but certainly somewhere around this year ish, it should be up and out alongside that new website. Actually, it's not going to be alongside the website. I'll have a separate website for this, but that's all part of the marketing that I get to start doing. Once it becomes a little bit more tangible, and with that folks, I'm going to leave it there. Thank you very much for listening. I appreciate it. The show notes and tracks will be available up on my website steamsersky.com. There's a notion database there that tracks all the podcast episodes that are published. Newsletter is over on substack currently steamsersky.substack.com. Language log is over on YouTube. All the YouTube shorts that I just talked about, the transcripts, all of them are there at steams language log. And finally, folks, if you want to contribute
58or possibly pre-purchase a copy of that book, I have no idea what the price is. Again, it can be 25.99. I'll leave it to you where you put the decimal. Be nicer if the decimal was sort of further to the right than to the left, but whatever it is, pay bell link in the show notes for this episode. Thanks again, folks. We'll do this again. Have a good one. Bye-bye.
