Two skiers got caught in an avalanche near Falls Creek Trail, outside Anchorage on Friday afternoon, leaving both men injured but able to dig. Them cells out initially, firefighters rolled out around 2.17pm to set up a landing zone and stay ready, while state troopers got the call minutes later at 2.24pm. The three guys were hitting a steep snow shoot when the slide hit two of them. Alaska Mountain Rescue Group jumped in quick, teaming up with a troopers helicopter called Hilo 3, to airlift the first guy to a spot near Mile 1. 0-6 on the seward highway, then ground ambulance took over to an Anchorage hospital. Firefighters gave big props to those mountain rescue volunteers, calling them well-trained pros who are straight up vital to the community up here in. Alaska Later, around 5.51pm, the chopper brought the second injured man directly to a hospital in Anchorage, wrapping up the field ops smooth. Two teams nailed this one, but it is a reminder to gear up smart on those backcountry runs.
