Sideline View Review On Morning Focus - Monday 9th March

0:00There was plenty of rapture scenes around the county at the weekend as well because we had some incredible sporting action and joining us to look back on that now is our sports editor Derrick Lynch. Derrick, we've just heard from one Dubliner there, it looks like we're going to be encountering plenty more Dubliners soon because Claire defeated Wexford International Hurling League over the weekend. That looks like Wexford or Out of the Finals bot and it looks like we've landed OBS instead. Yeah, I think score difference now is gone already. Go against Wexford, particularly after Becca Dublin's big win over down the previous evening. I think they're way out in front now and that's what all Dublin need to do is avoid defeat to Carlo to see their spot in the one B final against Claire and good promotion. Claire don't play now on the final weekend. We have our buy week so it's the division won't be final next for Claire on the Easter weekend. I just need to get that confirmed as of whether it's Saturday or Sunday. I would imagine Saturday would be, you know, optimal for management in terms of getting the another day's recovery ahead of the start of the monster championship in. So maybe that's what they look at. But from a clear point of view, yeah, good win over Wexford.

1:00No Tony Kelly, no Shen O'Donnell, no David McInerney, no Dermott Ryan, no Mark Rogers. Five, you know, pretty much nail down starters there that Connor Cleary didn't start the game either. He came on for Adam Hogan who got injured. It's slightly injured. It's not too bad that we find so I think that's what Brian would be pleased with is that, you know, Wexford had the likes of the fouries and Leachin and these guys out a strong team. They came up and they needed to obviously, but when the game was in the Melton Park with maybe 10 minutes to go, it was the younger players on the field that merged with the David Readies and Ryan Taylor's that saw the game out. So I think that's probably probably most pleasing from their perspective. Yeah, and even the smart things, Mark Cheedy getting his debut on goal made some brilliant saves, but even Adam Hogan getting deployed at fullback, like that is something that could well happen during the year when bodies are down and you just have to mark new man. So it's really good to get that experience in a highly charged game this early. Yeah, it was interesting to Brian Lohan after the game because, you know, we saw Ron and Kilroy play around the middle toward for the clear miners when they won that Ireland. He's now seems to be anyway, I cover in the full back line.

2:05Nile O'Farell has been shooting the lights out for Broadford in the club championship in recent years. He's being deployed at wing back, you know, so but Brian's attitude is, will you have to be able to play and be comfortable in whatever part of the field you find yourself? Because the day of 1 to 15 and drive it into the full forward is gone. So, you know, you know, yourself a wing farmer can fly yourself back and he's on 45. Likewise, a car in the back may have to make an overlapping run up the wing and you have to be comfortable in either of those slots. And I think that's for clear building like there's real cover now in all those positions. I thought Sean Rinn was exceptional yesterday, you know, and not an easy weekend for Sean because his granddad is lying and repose this evening and would be very tomorrow. So I mean, he, you know, it's tough for him to go out and play yesterday, but it's a scientific character of the young fella. He did that and played really, really well. He's now a live option at midfield alongside Rhyme Taylor. Carmelon, wing back. That experiment has worked really well. Connor lean is coming back in to farm. As you mentioned, Max, he did absolutely nothing wrong. He could do nothing with the gold. It was just an absolute rocker. And then I don't know sometimes is he in golf and nearly his own worst enemy.

3:09Like he comes off the bench, picks off two really, really good scores. And all of a sudden you're saying what an impact he had, but will he ever get to start? Do you know that's the thing? And, but you have to, you need that now. Do you need those last 20 minutes that are going to come on and finish out again? Like Shane Meaghan did well while he was on. Galvin is an obvious replacement for him. Peter Dogon was hitting the freeze, missed one or two. It was a tricky breeze on the park yesterday. I can't emphasize that enough. Not overly strong, but just tricky. Like it was swirling down towards the corner. So that does back up now and on the early every line of the pitch. I mean, Pika 26 is going to be impossible. That's a talk of a 15. I know, yeah. I actually missed that game and parsed myself because we were out with Clark Astler earlier that morning. But I remember coming home and just seeing it on the tele and seeing David first year old coming on for Sean Rennand. Like when you see that death that late in the game, that's that that's something to any kind of measure be proud and nearly scared of come, come championship. Yeah. And as I mentioned, like you had David back in early enough, Tug, German Reign, there was a training session or some bit of a running session held or was starting up just as the game finished. 4:13heading over to that. Sean O'Donnell was heading over to that. Tony Kelly, well, you know, so there's three ulcers like that you're saying are working in volume yesterday. So yeah, it's it's savage, they have 3D. And it's just the way that the young guys have a doubt. Like Jack O'Neal, I thought was brilliant just again. He just brings up a bit of confidence and flair that a left-handed holder often brings the team. You know, he's just an added dynamic really strong in the air, good under a pocket. And I think they have it really is just absolutely priceless to this clear team. He's one of the tiniest haulers I think I've ever seen playing the game. Just if people get a chance to watch a back, he's point he got in the first half into the cloister end. He literally shortened his grip to the boss of the Holy and flick the ball over from about 40 yards out. He just has that innate ability. And I think he just he links the play so well. So if you think about it, Mark Rogers is going to start. Tony Kelly is going to start, Shane O'Donnell is going to start. I think David really has to start picked the other two forwards in that front six for Claire. Like it's going to be really, really tough. Ryan Taylor starts at midfield all day long counter. Clearly he starts at fullback. So all of a sudden you're saying

5:16maybe three max positions, three, four max that you're saying are off for grabs here. So it's going to be some intensity in training. I would imagine for the next couple of weeks. And we welcome it. Absolutely. Now speaking of Claire's strength and depth, Stan Flannins were unlucky at the weekend to lose out in the All-Earn and Post primary schools, Crockup semi-final against presentation, Athan Rye. That was on in Quebec and T. But a breeding game. Yeah, really, really good game. If you hadn't any major invested interest in it, that was distracting you one way or the other. What I was saying is was a neutral cracking game. Absolutely. For Stan Flannins though, look at it's it's another game against presentation. Athan Rye, but there'll be a lot of regrets. They scored 114. That's a total of 17 points. They hit 18 wides. So if you're outwiding your score, Tally, you know, and a lot of them, you know, were kind of, I suppose decision-making rather than execution at times

6:17as well in fairness to Harry D'Arty got a really crucial goal at a really crucial time to bring them back into it. But I think, you know, last the last time we, St Flannins played Athan Rye, we were all raving about Jason Rabbert and young Nailand and look what they've gone on and done at senior level for Galway. I think they found another rabbit type player in their full-forward cure on lean from Crockup. Well, he was absolutely brilliant. So, you know, they're they're building away nice and quietly or neighbors over the barter up there. But yeah, as I say, from a Flannins point of view, it did play against the breeze in the first half and went in on a couple of pines down. You were saying, okay, and at the worst in the world, the was quite a strong breeze blowing down the field. But it was the third quarter that Athan Rye put in that really, I talked kind of sealed it. They came up and got the first couple of scores and they just looked really, really, really sharp. And then Flannins started resarded to boom in the ball from the lung distance down to the square, but Athan Rye cleaned them on second ball. They were just that bit sharper to the brakes. They were winning freez, you know, that, you know, that kind of a typical forward street that they give away where a back is coming out and a hangos in over the

7:18shoulder. And it's a total momentum killer. And it, you know, those 25, 30 seconds gone before the ball is struck and then your scrambles. So look, yeah, negative in terms of the result is not out. And I think they'll see it as a massive opportunity last because, but midway through the second half of the game, the result came in from the other semi-final. And Nina had been beaten by St. Curens and everybody was hyping up this potential Flannins Nina rematch above and Crockup our competitors there. Now it's Athan Rye and Curens and it's a total 50, 50 shot. I think your Flannins, I got over this one. There was a major, major opportunity there for Crockup. So, yeah, a lot of regrets I think coming down the road. Unfortunately, a lot of regrets, but it is going back to that old expression. You winner, you learn. And look, those serious characters on that flannin side and they're not out hold on to that harsh use it as if you were going forward and look, you just hope that that'll benefit us in the years to come. I definitely would of course. Yeah. And like the under 20s, I think we'll benefit most from at this year. I think carried out. He's going to continue having another brilliant couple of years

8:22for Claire Holen. I really, really like to look at Sean Macdomar at full back for St. Lannins. I think he's absolutely brilliant back there. James Cullen at center back. I thought was exceptional the last day as well. The two balls, Graeme and Dara played really good. Conor Hill is turning into a very good man-marking defender. Mori, he there for my Nikhil Le Mourne. He's another guy with a lot of a lot ahead of him. And Thomas O'Connor, to me, is like Dara Conor in reincarnators. He has that same gate about him, big strong guy under a drop and ball, really good hands. And when he gets inside, he doesn't normally miss like so. Yeah, a lot of positives to build on from a clear perspective, but just on the flannin side of things, as I say, you know, I suppose there's a little thing called the leave and start coming down the road the next couple of weeks that they'll be thinking about, no doubt, but from a holding sense, yeah, it's just an opportunity kind of big enough of it. I've known that Brendan Buggler and Conor are already focused on next year. And you've got to say the leave and start to say if he's focused on it, don't and go on one further. But if we switch codes for a moment, we had the first rounds of the

9:25will we go QZ Cup and Gary Cups as well. And Middletown got one over on last year's county and league champions. Yeah, not often, that's done. In fairness, Middletown under Sean O'Brien, you got to feel and that they were going to build with something really, really good. Not only was he going to be able to coax back maybe one or two of the lads that had drifted away from the panel just because they've been there a long, long time. But also the young lads in Middletown, he would have had a lot of them in Spanish point under his tutelage there as well. And I know they have massive, massive respect for him. Five, four, discord. Not often you get more goals than points in a game, but you know, the value of it is threefold obviously. So Sean is a fan of, and you'd often see him on social media and stuff like that. He's a fan of the beautiful game type football. It's attacking football, it's positive football. And to score five, four against an Iraq team, they still had Dean Ryan at fullback. Kiran Russell was there and Fitz was there. So there was plenty experience in it and a fairly potent forward line as well with the likes of Luke Pine and these lads. So yeah, big,

10:25big win from Middletown on that one. Yeah, can Murray break and then any time in a zone? Yeah, I suppose I'll take the club half a hash off no for a minute. But God, good result from Kim Murray perspective, I suppose I mean, right down to the wire. Those are disputed a goal, which pretty much the last play at the game, the square ball decision that was ruled out for an assignment. And then there was, and I've seen clips with, there was a completely obvious two pointer for Klamori that was way out wide. So, you know, one is a three pointer, one is a two pointer. Klamori win by one, hard by two. It's a, it's, you know, fine, fine margins from that point of view. But yeah, good run out. Both teams relatively inexperienced, I guess, although Klamori were able to bring Keel and sex them back, which that's a major, major positive. And I see Shane Hikki featured as well. Kim on early for, I think Tom Flaherty got injured early on in that game. So, yeah, eventality and in the Kotlin as a management team, they're open running with that one bus in assignment would be completely unrecognizable from the team on Friday night for the hit championship. They've done brilliant, brilliant work out in Park in Winchira out there in, in Lisi Casey. So a huge congratulations, everybody involved in that as well.
