The Petri family, the family that took time to bring you good wine, invite you to listen to Dr. Watson tell us another exciting adventure he shared with his old friend, that master detective, Sherlock Holmes. And as for me, well, I'd like to talk about those few minutes you have
while you're waiting for dinner every evening. That's the perfect time for a glass of Petri California's Sherry. Petri Sherry is the best beginning a good meal ever had. You really feel like you're enjoying the good things of life when you take time for a glass of Petri Sherry. Hold that glass of Sherry to the light. Look at it. It's a beautiful dark amber. Yes, and Petri Sherry is clear and fragrant. The way a good wine should be. Now taste it. You've got something. That Petri Sherry has a real heart of a great flavor. Oh, and look, if you like Sherry dry, you know, not sweet, Petri makes a fine dry Sherry. It's called Petri Pale Dry. And if you don't know yet which you prefer, the regular Sherry or the dry, why not try both? Don't buy one, buy two. But just to be sure you always buy Petri.
And now let's look in on our old friend Dr. Watson. I'm sure he's expecting this. Good evening, Dr.. Good evening, Mr. Batel. Show up your usual chair. I'll get on with tonight's usual, uh, home adventure. Well, how did the story begin, Dr? It was one day in the autumn of 887, I remember. Home's and I were seated on either side of the fire in our Baker Street lodging. The great man, his eyes half-thosed, his long thin fingers pressed together, lay back his chair, fling the room with large blue clouds with the back of his mouth. Disgrossing on one of his favorite subjects, Professor Mariati. I can almost hear him now, Mr. Batel. As he steps, he's absolutely not trying much. If he organized it up half of his evil, and nearly all that is undetected in this great metropolis. Surely that's an exaggeration room. A little bit more, Mr. Balum. Here's a brain of a first order in his agents and numerous and splendidly organized. He himself sits looseness like a spider in the center of his web.
At that web, there's a thousand radiations and he has no specific quiver of each monobomb. That is fortunate for me that there's only one Mariati. If every criminal were equally astute, I'd be in bankruptcy within the year. I don't think you need to worry about bankruptcy homes as I came in just now. I've picked these letters up from the whole table and slipped them into that pocket. Here you are. Oh, thank you, sir. They shouldn't look like bills to me. I observed the crystal with you, could collire on the top envelope. 500 dinners. It's grace of extremely generous. Is it a valuation of my services? I don't agree, after all. You did save him from a shocking scandal. Oh, isn't it this Watson? I've seen you yesterday when you come to that cricket match. You wasn't watching the cricket. If you value your life, keep your filthy long nose to yourself. And it's time to show the butcher. No, to the butcher. A man of criminal that I was instrumental in sending to prison for a short term. That is himself, though.
I was watching the cricket. No idea, the Joe is back in practice with you. I don't just keep an eye on him. No. Later on, Carlton Hotel Station, right? No, this is interesting. Very interesting. Oh, say how? The literature home has been informed that you are an unavailability in discretion. My life is engraved in here and I need your help. Upon receipt of this letter, I come to my hotel at once. I should be expecting you. And it's signed. Boss, what do you like? Is that a print present? No, please, just come to my hotel at once. Who is this? Do you like it anywhere? What's not a lot? We've been talking about the Marriottages. Now, I have a feeling that this letter may lead us to it. What makes you say that? Boss, what do you like? The writer of this letter is recognised in France as the one indisputable authority on the beatings of Norm Dupty's gruse. Well, I still don't see the connection with the Marriottes. If there is one thing Marriottes loves. More than the desling of speculations of mathematics and even more desling achievements of crime, it is the paintings of gruse. This is just a combination of intent and danger and the gruse expert spells Marriottage and me
and get your hat and coat off the lawn. Well, after the cut, no tip to see Mr. Lacat once. This is from two travel rights. There's no answer. I'm not again. I go in the summer, do I knock the door? No, no, no. That one's a good tension to our perspective fans. I tell Lacatons, they're very hard to pick. Yeah. I'm just killing keys to the trick very late. I'm not going to get the answer. I'm not going to get the answer. I'm not going to get the answer. I'm not going to get the answer. I'm not going to get the answer. I'm not going to get the answer. No, the man at the desk downstairs said that Mr. Lacatons was in his room. You know what? He said he thought he was in his room. Uh-huh. He's the other nine, so he's a bit. Come on, let's go in. It doesn't look as if anyone's occupying this room. No signs of any personal blow-in. No, it's no sign of the wardrope, no page. Yep, he is too registered here. Hello. What's this thing on the carpet?
That bed here. Great scutty. It's a blood stain watching. Blood stain. The stain is still damp. I'm afraid we're too late. Come on. We can do no more good here. You're not giving up home? No, of course not. Let's see what we can find out from the children's literature. And it feels to believe that in the 19th century a distinguished foreigner can vanish in the thin air. Yes, Mr. Delac did have a visit early on today. Mr. Holmes, remember his name? I think there's Perkins or Parsons, but I'm not sure. Can you describe his appearance? I think so, Mr. Holmes. He was a very tall gentleman, tall and thin with deep-sunk eyes. Dean Chayvon? Oh, yes, sir. He had a high forehead and a pretty way of moving his head from side to side. Oh, yeah. I feel hungry. That's almost an exact description of my art. Exactly what's it? Have you seen Mr. Delac since this Mr. Perkins or Parsons called on him?
No, I haven't, sir. But his visitor came back only an hour ago. He had some men with him. They carried some large packages out of the hotel packages. But not like a J. No, packages, Mr. Holmes. I've missed you, Delac, received any other visitors since you arrived here. None that has been here to see him, sir. But I understand that Sir Henry Davenant has been most anxious to get in touch with him. Sir Henry Davenant? Thank you. I'm extremely obliged to you. Come on, Watson. Always proud to be of service to Mr. Sherlock Holmes. A blunt against him, Watson. What makes you say that, huh? The Henry Davenant is a millionaire who's heart-colleged as world famous. Here we go, the papers were full of his latest acquisition. The gem of his collection. Zorn, that piece of grass painting. Young girl with a gazelle. And now it would appear that some reasonable reality wishes to prevent a meeting between Sir Harry Davenant and Mr. Dulac, a grouse expert. How do you see why the pup begins to clear? Are they glad, but what are you going to do? Davenant has said to, uh, there's something for permit. We don't have anything to do with officials, interviewers, and people like that.
But we know that he wishes to consult and expert on the paintings or not, but he's furs. An ex-loo should be obvious, old chap. This is the human that you'll impersonate one. Certainly. If a grouse expert is what he wants, then a grouse expert is what he's going to get. I must say, your disguise is amazing, the fact you... I miss you. You made me great on her. If I appear convincing to the Epstein doctor, I'll see. How can I feel to convince Sir Harry Davenant? Oh, I know for the time being. Pauling the gun. Yes, Sir Harry Arthur. Sir Henry's house. Yes, Sir Henry's house. Sir Henry's house. Sir Henry's house. Sir Henry's house. Sir Henry's house. Sir Henry's house. Sir Henry's house. Don't tell me the best Oklahoma. Well. Sir Henry's house. Sir Henry's house. Sir Henry's house. dir... Sir Henry's house. Sir Henry's house. Sir Henry's house. Sir Henry's house.
Sir Henry's house. I can tell you are here, but he very rarely gives interviews. That is a great disappointment to me. Perhaps you would just go and tell him, if you can, and it is type of a great once-where du la. Oh, would I cancel? Coming once a gentleman. If you're waiting for another, I'll take the message. What was the name of that? The name, aren't they, and this gentleman is Mr. Watson. Hey, Mr. Watson. Well, we got into the house now. Let's hope that you can impress the master of it. Not as easy a charisque affair, or... I've got the match opinions on the paintings of Blurs with an expert. The knowledge of the subject is somewhat sketchy on a bird. She is a mind is absolutely mill. Blurs was a naturalistic painter who punished the book loads of the 18th century. And his paintings command a fabulous fee in this day and age. He himself died in great poverty. Hello. Someone's coming. Mr. Birney, will you and Mr. Watson come with me, please?
The Henry's most anxious and needless. Next, see him, I'll tell you. My name is Valette Chesson. I look after Mr. Henry's art class. Indeed, a very visible job, I'm sure, my dear. From what I hear, he has a magnificent gallery. He has one of the finest of the worlds. The latest art position is the famous young girl with a gazelle, like bird. Over, I'm sure you know all about that, Mr. Birney. I think you're sitting on message. You were a student of the great too last. I have that, the innest of me, but probably not so. Oh, this is the one I'm studying. Oh, well, thank you, Valette. You may go. Yes, sir. You're the Birney. I'm sure. And this is Mr. Watson. That's right. The Birney is staying with me. I see. Well, sit down, won't you? Look, Birney. You're the friend of two lakhs, aren't you? I think I explained that on earth. Mr. Birney, why am I so fond of getting in touch with him? He's staying at the Carlton Hotel, isn't he? He was, or has been staying there, Mr. Birney. I've left Harvard as a message, boy. I'm asking him to come and see me.
And he hasn't answered one of my comments. I'm the most important that I see. Mr. Birney is in some trouble, perhaps? Perhaps. Now, if he follows up familiar with the painting by Gras, the young lady with a gazelle, I'm sure. Oh, yes, sir. Yes, indeed. Oh, you are. What did you tell it? Well, one of the great customers in my humble opinion, Mr. Kofkoss, I have only seen a paper doctrine, but it seemed to me to have a question, something of the flesh, didn't say. Great. 30-centrients of life, you are indeed fortunate to own it, Mr. Kofkoss. No, don't have fortunate. Cost me 40,000 pounds. I'll still say you are the most fortunate, Mr. Kofkoss. But would you come near the other of the, to examine the origin? No, I don't know, but I ought to. I've had to guard it very carefully ever since this, but perhaps in your case, I can make an exception. You would see. That's regarding the paintings there? Yes, I have, Mr. Watson. They've worried me so much that I've even thought of engaging the services of a private detective. Oh, thank you, sir. A very interesting.
Sir, the Duke of Carlisle strongly recommended a fellow by the name of Sherlock Holmes. I was serious, he was thinking of going to him. Instead of which? He has come to you, Sir Henry, and in fact, it was all a lot of time, I'm sure. Well, what kind of host there is this, sir? Who's the devil? My name is Sherlock Holmes. Then why do you come here, mastery, as a French author? Because I, I'd heard of your a version to giving interviews, and I wanted to see you urgently. I felt that in the character of a supposed, gruer's expert, I was most likely the game, immediate admission. Well, then your friend, Dr. Watson, my colleague. Well, it's all turned out for the best, Sir Henry. You wanted to consult Mr. Holmes, and he was most anxious to see you. Yes, yes, well, I'm glad you followed us here. You see, I'm devilish worried about that gruer's of my own wife, Sir Henry. Well, I thought it's an auction. But there was another man bidding against me all the time, and when he was finally knocked down in my name, he became most insulting. He'd been able to bear not owning the picture himself. He told me bluntly that I wouldn't enjoy it long.
Well, I didn't think much about it at the time, but, Mickey, I'd been receiving postcards repeating the threat. I don't like it, that's a fact. Well, you kept the postcards, I hope to have them. No, through them in the power, but they belong. Oh, it's a good example. Can you recall the name of this bidder at the auction, who threatened you? No, didn't know his name. Can you describe his appearance? Well, let me see. He was tall, being shabin, who's not curious how he could move his head from side to side. Money after again. Now so, Chef, my supposition was correct. Now, tell me, Henry, is the painting safely guarded? Well, I'd say that it was impegnable homes. It's not in my regular galleries. I had a special strong room built for it when I started receiving threats. It has a lot, which only I know the combination, and a special chocolate device that so controls the room, that even I can only enter it during the certain daytime hour. And yet, Sir Henry, was such a thought-out because you were peer to peer frightened. Why? Well, I have it there, trust my own shadow home. But as you possibly know, one of Gras' pupils are certain not-em-led do.

Imitated his paintings most successfully. Several of the experts were pulled. I confess that I've been frightened lately, since I've received the threats, that a Keralman might try and substitute a fake painting for the company. Indeed, he hasn't already done so. That's why I'm so anxious to get in touch with Delac. He'd know up for it at once. The substitution would be impossible if you're the only one that knows it. The combination to the luck of the strong room? Well, that's what my logic tells me. You drop down. It's still daylight. So, anybody who could possibly present in the painting now, or certainly? By the way, that's happened to us for Delac. Is he the meat the carpenter tell?
He did circumstances in the departure. May this be distinctly. I mean, he's here. In what way? This room is empty. I don't know the signs of luggage and yet... Come in. Is this valid? What is it? It's not that it's left for you, Sir Henry. I've asked for this advance. Cool, Sir Henry. You can give his name, Sir Henry. But he was a tall, thin man with deep, sun-highs. What did I say? It's the same fellow again. Listen to this. I told you you wouldn't enjoy the painting for long. You didn't. Did you? Well, it's got its money off. Come, I don't see anything funny about this. What makes you laugh? It's obvious that my painting has been stolen. I find nothing funny about it either, Sir Henry. But I must admit, a certain pleasure. Once again, I'm crossing swords with an adversary who is more than worthy of my steal. You'll hear the rest of Dr Watson's story in just a second, so I'm just going to remember...
...and do the Petri Sherry could really be called the All-around All-American One. That's right. Petri Kakaofaniya Sherry. Now, the reason I say that is... ...because Petri Sherry is not only a swell before dinner wine... ...but it's a perfect wine for almost any occasion. When company drops in, serve Petri Sherry. After dinner when you're just sitting around chatting, Petri Sherry again is just right. Believe me, you couldn't ask for a better All-around Wine in Sherry. You couldn't ask for a better tasting Sherry than Petri. Petri Sherry. Dr Watson, you kept me on the edge of my chair so far with your story. What happened next, Sir Henry? Dove and take you to see his famous painting. He did, Mr. Barclay. Together with Mr. Barley Jackson, we descended countless fights to serve. Doves opened where no one expected the door to exist. Fatso after walking down a narrow stone's head guess returned and twisted. We came up against a blank wall. It seemed that we could go no further.
But the time took, the combination of numbers, and a hidden door slid back. In southern interior of a four room. A room with no windows hardly and in life. Now you'll paint the interior down and evil before us. With your comfortable girls painting, the young girl with the gazelle. He stood looking at it for a brief moment and then... The Henry government. Henry, the painting is still safe. I say Henry, if it still is the same painting. If it looks the same as the home, then it has to be. That remains that only if once you lack the tellers, if it is the same or a brilliant copy. You must have been... Silence. So it would seem. Of course we've asked the experts of the British Museum to pass judgment. How could it be to be the children? It'd be impossible to smite the lid out of here and replace it with a copy. Is there anyone where being absolutely certain? With your permission, say Henry, I should like to make a test. You're going to take a sample of the paint Mr. Holmes?
Yes, that should get a certain proof. Well, very well done. You'd better do it by a little bit. Be careful. Remember the painting cost me 40,000 pounds. My new fragment of paint will be sufficient for the test. It was nice and ineligible. Our special for tiny samples. Yes, very good. That's fine, but the work was a bit... Stay warm to home. Is that enough? It's a splendid projection, spending. Thank you. Please put a jaunless envelope on the video. That's it. And as the Henry, I shall return to Big Street and analyze this thing. Within an hour, I should be able to tell you whether the painting is worth 40,000 pounds or a pleasant folly. Well, Holmes, did you make the test? I did say Henry. And? I'm afraid there's no doubt the job of painting. It's a poor, awful lot. A couple of paint-diged emin, which was manufactured not more than 25 years ago. And Grus died in 1805. Well, I still stay as an extra fine painting who ever did it. Well, I'm not a good painter.
I'm not a good painter. I'm not a good painter. I'm not a good painter. I'm not a good painter. I'm not a good painter. I'm not a good painter. It's a fine painting who ever did it. Oh, man, how it was all. I agreed up to Watson. In fact, I was glad to buy it. It's a brilliant copy. And more than likely, it was done by Madame Lagou. You're a marketly client, Henry. That's 50,000 pounds. 40,000 pounds! No, no, no, no, sir, put that knife down. Holmes, help me grab him. I told you what, you just want to know. I'm not going to get mixed up in the spare if that's what you're thinking. Now, why are you grasping that knife, sir? Because I have work to do in my strong room. I'm going to use this knife to scratch that wine cap in the 40,000 pieces. Well, I suppose you're right, Violet. It's childish to mutilate this door.
It's a really good thing to Henry. I'd like to have it held by it from you gladly. Violet from me? You can have it. For and make arrangements that are rich in things taken away at once. I don't want any frauds in my collection. Yes, to Henry. I'm thankful. Now, Mr. Sherlock Holmes, I'll pay you any, if you may, if you can tell me how the original painting was stolen. Well, Henry, the hoe must here proceed the goo, and how I must confess things impossible. I agree. This is the sealed metal room, the only entrance to the door. That has a combination that only you know, sir Henry. It's impossible for anyone to enter this room without my being present. Or I wouldn't swung it was, if you'd have any of these walls, but... Not yet, it could be now. Uh-huh. Ventilator. No method of entrance here. Well, you'll find no flaws, I'm sure. This room is built like a giant sea.
And the time lock on the door is equally solid. Time lock waiting now, yes. It started five minutes ago when we opened the door. But don't worry, it's seven o'clock with the door open. When the door's closed, it couldn't be reopened again, I'd take it there. Not until the morning, Dr. No. I had the lock specially designed in the engineers. This presents us pretty a problem, as if I've tackled the Henry. A large painting, still and and a fake one substituted, and a steel room to which only you have access. Must confess for how seems utterly impossible. Remember what you always say, Hurtin? Try the impossible, and whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the possible. Yeah, let's consider the who for a moment. Here's your butler, absolutely reliable. Absolutely. How about the projection? Completely trustworthy. You brought letters of recommendation from most of the leading half galleries in London. In charge of two. And serious minding. He's made a deep study of mathematics, as well as her knowledge of painting.
Mathematics. How do you know that, Sam? Well, she had a book with her the other day. I was surprised that the title could have been a novel, but no. It was called the Dynamics of an Asteroid, that was inscribed to her by the author. Thank heavens to your memories, Henry. That book was written by Professor Moriati. Ah, it's Jackson. Must be an accomplice, is it? Fuck. Oh, it's the door. Come on, Sam, the chat. Yes, and it's not very hard to guess who that's one is. Oh, but I can't believe that. Ah, it's a book. There's a note being pushed under the door. It's like a mat for the author. I'd like to say, Holmes. Forgive my unhappiness. Forgive my unhappiness. Oh, please say, Holmes. Forgive my unhappiness. Out of anger, unhappiness. Not a particular reward. danger of smothering in the strong run, but imprisonment should delay my pursuit
to mourning. Oh, the Jackson. Jesus, take the foams. That's what he was. The Jackson's failure to kill the painting from Ariati, but landed in a far worse dilemma than anything weak it's addicted to. Ariati has never tolerated failure on the part of his minions, a brilliant plotter, a brilliant plot. Ariati is at the scene of his powers. Now fortunate that we were able to spoil him. What do you mean, for him? I think he's been stolen. Oh, paintings, haven't they? Oh, no, no, no. It's here in this room. What an earth you're talking about, home. You reminded me of my own victim, Watson. I discarded the impossible. If it was impossible, the picture had been stolen, therefore it had not been stolen. Who means that this painting is the original? Yes, of course, sir. Surely the whole plot is crystal clear now. Just about as clear as orange to me. Well, then let me explain. The whole episode of François du Lac, the note to be the empty hotel room and the significant blood stains and the apparent disappearance of du Lac were all part of Ariati's plot. The real du Lac never left France. Ariati created it in England to lure me into the cave.
Why in thunder should he want to do that, home? Yes. I should think you're the last person he'd want on the scene. On the contrary, sir. He knew that I'd grab at his date. The apparent murder occurs experts who would make it seem likely that you're thinking of a substitute to him, then. He wanted me to test the painting, which I did, dying, selling to his trapped, very knee-player. The paint homes, you said that it was no more than 20 years old. Yes, my dear, I feel all the answers should be obvious. I see it. Violet was his accomplice. Had prepared a painting beforehand. And, carefully, he'd talk a piece of nothing paint. Exactly, isn't it? And Ariati had assumed quite correctly as it turned out. But as soon as such a painting was up broad, you'd want to get rid of it. And that girl was going to take it out of this house with your full approval. And, of course, tell it over to my Ariati. What a fantastic scene. I'd definitely say it's ever one old chap. If it hadn't been the other chance to mark about the book on that, Nallix, Henry, I'm very much afraid the young lady would have gazelle. Might even now be on her way out of your house. Holmes, I can't tell you how grateful I am.
Am I going to express that gratitude in a very material manner, I assure you. Thank you, Sir Henry, but I wouldn't dream of accepting a fee for this day. So I've been shockingly accused. I might easily have left them walk away with your pleasure. My turn round those ears. We locked in here for the night, and very much afraid so, Dr. Watson. So I shouldn't be surprised if the button notices our disappearance and comes looking for us. But he must be able to, in the door, it'll need a professional locksmith to get us out of here. Oh really? It looks like we spend a very tearfully... Ah, don't be gloomy, my dear fellow. Oh, gloomy, so do I. You locked him with one of the loveliest girls in history, and she's genuine at that. So I can have an adjoe, Jeff, don't be? Let's, uh, let's look at her once again. Well, Dr. that was not only the swell story, but I really learned something. Oh good, good, good, Mr. Buckle, and just what did you learn?
Well, this fellow girls the painter? I know this must sound stupid to you, but until you mentioned his name, I'd never heard of him before. Well, his mention is named to me. I've never heard him before, either. But then, you never learned about the good things in this world, unless somebody tells us? Exactly, that's the way I feel about Patrick Wine. Wait a minute. Here's the way I look at it. There are thousands of people who know about Patrick Wine and love it, right? Yes, but even though it's a wonderful wine, there must be some people who don't know about it. So I tell them about it. And I tell them about the Petri family and how they've been making wine for generations, and how they've been handing on down from father to son, from father to son, the fine art of turning luscious grapes into delicious wine. Yes, and when I tell them at the name Petri on a bottle of wine is the personal assurance of the Petri family that every drop of wine in that bottle is good wine, oh that's all you have to know. So it adds up to this.
If you want a fine wine for any occasion, you want a Petri wine, because Petri took time to bring you good wine.
