Shara Holmes considered himself as the only unofficial consulting detective and rightly so. In point of fact, Holmes worked outside the law. If he'd be a policeman, working for Scotland's Ark, he would certainly not have had the freedom that allowed him to use his unorthodox methods. This both pleased the police and frustrated them. Pleased them because he almost invariably left such men as Inspector Leicester and Inspector Gredson take the public recognition for a case that he had sung. Frustrated them because he could literally work on the case using his own specialised abilities while they had to stay within prescribed limits. Yet Holmes did respect the law for he was in fact an amateur and felt at best to have
healthy relationship with the professional police. This encouraged such men as Leicester and Gredson to bring various unsolved crimes to him for his solution. His freedom outside restraints the law allowed him to assume many roads in disguise and to work with Watson as his accomplice. The excellent examples of this kind of work can be found in such original stories as a scandal in Boehmir, the man with the twisted lip and the illustrious client, the name but a few. He often broke open safes to get information, set fires to force some action out of an individual, such as Irene Adlin, or broke into Holmes in order to gain access to information that would lead to the solving of the crime. Many abditions by the police were so dropped in Holmes produced a criminal or a sub-degribe. Most of this work was done by Holmes and Watson in London or very southern parts of England.
In the walks of death, Holmes and Watson find themselves in Vienna on a case. Now here, on foreign territory and completely outside the orthodox methods of the English police, Holmes had even more free reign. He still knew it is brilliant sense of deductive logic, but now he did not have to worry about Grypromising's God and God, and besides, there was new excitement for Holmes when he could deal with murder from other than the English criminal. Join me now as we present Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in the walks of death. That tree wine brings you... ...to... ...to... ...to... ...to... ...to... ...to... ...to... ...to... ...to... ...to... ...to... ...to... ...to... ...to... The Petrie family, the family that took time to bring you good wine, invites you to listen to Dr. Watson as he tells you another exciting adventure he shared with his old friend, that master detective, Sherlock Holmes.
And as for me, well, I'm going to tell you about a swell idea. The idea of serving Petrie, California's Sherry before dinner. Tomorrow night, just before dinner, instead of that last minute rush, take it easy for yourself a glass of Petrie Sherry. Now, if you'll do that just once, I wouldn't have to say another word about Petrie Sherry, would be a customer full-light, because Petrie Sherry is good wine with a capitol good. Judge at Petrie Sherry any way you like. By its beautiful amber color, it's part of the grape aroma, or by the best test of all, it's flavor. Petrie Sherry is delicious, and you have a choice of two kinds. Petrie regular, and Petrie petri-dry Sherry. Do not show up which you like better. Try them both. Don't buy one, buy two. But remember, always buy Petrie. And now I'm sure I've good friend Dr. Watson's expecting this. Let's go in and join.
Good evening, Dr. Watson. Good evening, Mr. Bartel. Or a set for tonight's story. Here's my guy, I'm all set. What is it? It's again in the year 1889. You'll be in a bright light. Lovely lady is looking music. What will you and the great cheer like Lombs doing there, Dr. Watson? Dr. Bartel. What will we doing there? Yes, we are taking a trip. In those early days of our association, we didn't have either time or the money. No, we were in Vienna, with the express command and the Emperor of France using it. This is not too bright, remember, to be arrived in the city. For several days we were forced to cool our heels awaiting the imperial pleasure. On one of those idle evenings of the good services of our friend, the cheaper police, Uncle Frano, the pureness and invitation to a splendid ball of being filled with the palace princess definitely won cram. It was an incredibly colorful spectacle, Mr. Bartel. The spring orchestra high in the gallery of the palace volume,
played a haunting star swalls, but on the floor below the team of Viennese at a stocre say, swayed and glided gale to the loping music. I can remember the pictures so well, Mr. Bartel. The phones and eyes to their talk to the cheaper police, count for product. The colour of the scene is in the gentleman. The future is just going to follow. It must be real holiday for you and Mr. Holmes. That makes us so that, Watson. Well, it's hard to think of the criminal world when one looks at such a gathering. And yet, Count Frano knows as well as I do that the criminal is not confined to class or in the bar. Indeed, no, Mr. Holmes. I can assure you that every guest here tonight has been scrutinised as he entered. Yes, I imagine that many paint-coars, many present in this room now, are they, Count Frano? Oh, yes. We take no chances. I suppose you can't afford to. There's enough jury of being wonny at the night for King's ransom, I suppose. The road has finished. Now I can present you to our hostess, Princess Funcarn.
Stephanie, my pigeon. My pigeon. So, Princess, put it on. Yes, I'm going to see that Indiana, the professional criminal detection, carries no social stigma. Allow me to present you, Mr. Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson. The Princess Stephanie Funcarn. I'm really honoured to meet you. I must say, most happy to meet you gentlemen. I'm going to meet you and refuse my protégé, you know, sort of that. The Hungarian composer. Mr. Sherlock Holmes, this probably night, Mr. Holmes, will mark our ear occasion. The signal honors to be conferred on her for a while, and myself, before the night is two. Next, loads as a new composition of his tonight will be its debut. Indeed, have a very interesting. It's a great honor that Princess has come to hell on me. A new composition could not possibly be presented on the more official circumstances. How do you further use spoken an honor in connecting with yourself? Me, I tell the master you could Stephanie. No, I will tell myself on a thoroughly. After your role has been played, Janusz, and Anitol and I shall be the first to have the pleasure of dancing to it. My father is to make a public announcement. He is to announce my engagement to count Anitol, the former.
Oh, indeed, my congratulations. You love her like you've fallen. I might not let the lot of Mr. Merman. Is she not exquisite? I, the gay man of Vienna, the cavalier who swore that no one woman would ever capture him. I confess it, gentlemen, I'm in love. Oh, but I pity you. Even the great vultures of Vienna could hardly be worthy of this moment. Anitol, you are a born, flat-rooted. Oh, come, the vultures are about to begin. I shall see you, gentlemen. Later. Of you to say? Big is it. Well, big, big, big. The orchestra is tuning up her, Robert. I imagine this is a great moment for you. A very frightening one, I assure you, my friend. In a few minutes, I shall know what it may be worth to crown me. Success or failure? What the problem is leading the princess to the centre of the floor. The conductors raising his belt. This is your moment, Herr Hobbott. Good luck. Great for an incident, gentlemen. Great for me. There they go, the princess and Catherine Fraud. Oh, they're starting the rows.
Ah, they make a striking bed, aren't they? They'll come the other couples down on the floor. They're charming. Right, charming. It reminds me of... Ah! Ah! Great. Doctor, I've done the wrong self. It's the princess. It's the princess. Come on, Watson. Out of the way, please. Out of the way. Come for final. What have they? They'll meet up to watch and see what you can do for them. Come for Fraud, oh, there's nothing I can do, I'm afraid. She was shot through the brain. She died instantly. It's stiff for me. Dead? Stop that devilish music. La Colte goes. Here's a murderer to be found. Come for final. Have you found any clues? One of my men found a revolver. It'd been tossed into the earth, a repotted palm. May I see it, please? Of course. Yeah. Rammed into the soft earth. Come, found it. Come for final. Your fiancé was an extremely beautiful woman.
You must have riddles, yes, sir, but none of them are present tonight. A ruling headed her estate. A six-month-old nephew. Who's his guardian? The emperor finds your safe himself. No, no, Mr. Dockholtz, I know. No obvious motive for someone wishing poor Stephanie. No, perhaps it was a political crime. She was a wealthy artist. She kept no apartment one case. It's very possible. Many nigh-hills, disasters, have been active in my conversation. It means why we have a ballroom full of suspects waiting for us. So, just going to suggest we went back to our camp, very much by staying here in the library. Delicate matter. Almost everyone present tonight is known to me personally. Now may I suggest that you go back to the ballroom and have the male guests file past you? The team for questioning anyone who's evening clothes do not fit perfectly. Oh, don't forget what the kind of a man's clothes got to do with it. Anyone invited to such a ball as this would naturally have his own tail out. I think, Comforfano, if you found a man who had to hire his costume, he might be an imposter and may well prove to be of a setting. The
gentlemen, Mr. Holmes, your plan has not been effective so far. You find one Englishman who is unusually badly dressed and what could be discovered is an Englishman Lord whose luggage was lost on the plane. Yes, and the second suspect who, the perfectly respectful the unease doctor, who's an oscilloscope child, who taken a last minute snippet, he's tailed out to the person. And the third was poor Hobart, the composer. You cannot get afforded good dress today. Well, Comforfano, why not have the next suspect shown in? Sure about. Bring him to the next man. Yada, Tom. Tom, the head, I'm better. I'm better. A little frightful, a bit fuller. Getting fixed. My name is Groning. What do you wish with me? Groning. Your name was nothing the list of invitations. A long-term is please. Let me see our right hand, Hagroning. You have no idea touch me. Where do you get these earth stains? Your right hand is pitted in the net, it's full of dirt. What does that poor policeman? At a short while ago, you tried to hide your revolver by ramming it into an earth filled cloud. You know that revolver, Pizcon, Comforfano?
It will be easy to compare the samples of earth. But not be necessary. Well, you admit that you murdered the princess tonight, then? Certainly, I admit it. Why did you kill her? She was Navista Clutch. She was the press of the poor. I'm clever, Kizzer. One day, I at party will kill all of you, Philly. I'll stop that tunnel. Put on that revolver. Shoot him like the dark piece. No, no, no, no, no, Cabrofano. Even you can't take the law and get your own hands. Why do you not shoot me? I must have paid to tie. I can take the base over. Ninti Hondi's got to see me. Thank you for stopping my hand just now, Doctor. But please, focus, Stephanie. That'd be a quick kiss and justice. He killed her. Very understandable, Impal Serbatant. Wonder what it ruined your life. My life. Now that she is dead, my life is empty. What the right to love and who do you have to exist in a world that no longer holds Stephanie? She was all light in life. Happiness.
And now, I am hardly displaying my B&E's blood, am I? The murder is cut thanks to you, Mr. Hondi. My life, such as it is, must go on. Come on. Yes, that is the story of the death. Mr. Bouton began. It sounds like the end of the story to me, Doctor. Oh, from it. The next day at home and I had I interpill with his imperial magiste, and learned the nature of the services expected of us. Services required our leading the city. And that's why my boy, we were gone from the unharpeless time. We didn't know that during our absence, the whole that was, it could have such a tragic debut, was beginning to make a fuss. More business. Get out of here. Before that boss, we have had many requests for it. Gladly, we will play it, get out of here. Isn't before that boss, the upplaying? Yes, my dear, and she was walking onto the plot of dance to it.
Lea Mullins, high in the actress. A beautiful creature. How are you trying to make me jealous, Mum? How imperilately clear, boss, my dear son! A new ballet, and to the music of the Gorghub ball. Magnificent. Never has cross-navaled dance better. Have you ever seen such an ex-figgy deal away? Six deaths in four weeks, Shobba.
All beautiful women are killed to the music of the whole world. There's a homestead of mad men at the Hotsin Vienna. There's only one thing to be done. We must forfeit absolutely the playing of that world, by until you're the king. No, all of this is a hotel until we return to Vienna. And then I suppose, Sherlock Holmes was gone into the case again. Yes, my boy, Holmes, I did a close study of a newspaper of boss on the prejudice. It was great to be given a toy away from his investigation. The tender reception of which he impure, which the bankers for our services, on the mission that we just completed. As we arrived at the imperial palace, almost the first person we ran into was the Hungarian composer. Janus. Fuck you, welcome. The ass-cut of the tragedy is connected with my walls. Yes, we haven't been to the real-life. I was making a close study of the newspaper of boss on them. Just before I came here. You must do something, Mr. Holmes. People with heart-leafed in the modern music, they want my walls. But that is forbidden. I'm losing a reputation and a fortune, while that walls remain unplayed. Or perhaps here, for that,
you are laying an excellent foundation for our later reputation and fortune. What do you mean? All this publicity, however, distasteful to you at the moment, you must in the long run, prove invaluable. Ah, how you are, my dear, come for fun. Mr. Holmes, Dr. Watson, I am glad to see you back in Vienna. You've heard of the murders? Yes, come to me, Mr. Scherzinger. I need your help again, good friend. For over a month now, the murder has been at large, and I cannot seem to get on display. I'm cloning the first killer. What a kind of him. At least, him. Why? At least, him? That's not why. At the hearing, it was obvious the man was an ecomaniac. He posted of the murder of Stephanie of Panty Artisanal Vanity. A little newspaper actress made quite an issue with the case. Got the pressure to bear, and he had to let him go. Come, come, it. I wish I hadn't left Vienna. You have to fill out the lodge again, country-front. It's pretty obvious that he's the murderer of the other women, too. The Concert, Dr. He was in prison until yesterday. The last of the murders was made at three days ago.
It becomes a simple Johannes Panty Artisanal Vanity. What do you mean, gentleman? Johannes? Very. Johannes, very, very, very stupid. The most stupid, stupid, selfish company. Right. Not only is the masterful son of Holmes, and is called the young Dr. Ports, are English friends of your honoree, but I say that they have the deepest represent from our Hungarian empire. They are not far back. If work is successful, I'm told is a breed of composers for whom Vienna is famous. Your Highness is most kind. There's a pipe organ in here. It's an excellent traditional I am told. We do not play as part of your composition, to tell of that. I shall be most honest, your Highness. It sounds an interesting song, isn't it? Thank you. What shall I play, your imperial highness? Very soon you wish, your man. And soon you wish. Thank you, your highness. Video permission, might choose to play. Great heavens, he's playing the death walls. And your guard, Watson,
even in the imperial palace itself, this twirling tune may invoke murder. You'll hear the rest of Dr. Watson's story in just a second, which just gives me time to remind you that if any one wine could be called the perfect wine for almost any occasion, that one wine would be Petri, California's shell. Petri's shell is not only a fine before dinner wine, but it's wonderful after dinner too. And of course, when you're entertaining or and guests drop in, whether in the afternoon or evening, there's nothing better than a class of Petri's shell. And it's comforting to know that you can serve Petri's shell probably, because the name Petri is the proudest name in the history of American wines. If Dr. Watson you certainly left me hanging on a cliff that time, he broke off your story just as the Hungarian composer started to play his ill-fated walls to the emperor of St. Joseph. What happened?
It's time my boy fortune didn't nothing happen. He had over competed his composition without a patent incident. And shortly afterwards we attended a banquet that was given an art honor. A banquet that concluded with a rather curious ceremony, which the Empress of the cello homes the medal to commemorate the services her and her living was. Oh, I'm sorry, but finally, it was shortly after 10 o'clock, I remember. Homes and I together were covered by fire. They were left the royal chains, and stopped at the centre, sparrows, staircase, beatings in the main hall. You were greatly under night Mr. Holmes. I only know this in particular, kindness to make three such presentations before and they were all to my own country. You must have made another one, it's a better place. Please watch me please. The Emperor's most kind, I can't help feeding with the over-evaluated myself. You're being unusually modest, Holmes. Perhaps because I feel that my visit here is incomplete until I've solved the death-close murders, I hope you'll be able to stay in Vienna long enough to do that. And this I am at my best friend. I've been giving the matter a great deal of thought,
Comfort Manau. I have a pen for trapping the killer. It's in rather an embryonic stage at the moment, but over five to the other, tonight I expect to develop it thoroughly. I shall call the general office of the morning and explain it to you. I shall be awaiting a visit easily. But one more of these murders and a newspaper outclimbing becomes so loud that I should have to resign my post as chief of police. I'm hoping that Daryngestion played the death-walls tonight. Who won't think? It's not infallible. The death of a beautiful woman doesn't always follow the playing of the melody. Very two-blocked it, but what? Here's some. It's like a match with you. Huh? There's a figure here, stomped on the landing. It's got it. Party of a girl. In the day beautiful girl too. Drop through the forehead. You're wrong, Watson. The death-walls is infallible, but I swear to you, the factiller has struck for the last time.
I know your idea, my dear, can you finalize? Yes, I have. All of the instructions you gave me this morning, Mr. Holmes. Chinbombs is a moment that's not in Vienna. I've observed the best table for you, and I've invited the guests that you named. This tingly assorted couple I must say. I know it's all that composed of that grilling for the one that's lit in shooting your... your fiance, Kavir Phanna. This is much as I could do to keep my hands off him in your life, dear doctor. But Mr. Holmes insisted that I ask you to leave. Mr. Holmes insisted that I ask you just to say maybe she would tell me his pen and completely in the dark. If you do the dark, I can sympathize with you, Kavir Phanna. Holmes never tells me a thing. Listen, I guess, sir. In a very few minutes, I'm sure that my pen will be perfectly apparent. Good evening, Herr Holbert. Oh, good evening, Mr. Holbert. What do you do, Herr Holbert? And how I've not had grunting, and having to come here against my will, my party does not approve of these aristocratic epiphygstides. But Council of Fraunow and Front made it that I did not come here tonight.
I could expect to find myself in prison. How could I resist of she persuasively for taking me to the third guest, brother? I met her at the hotel a few hours ago. Mr. Banks, I'm so glad that you were able to come. Hello, Mr. Holmes. I didn't know this was going to be a party, but I couldn't be happy. I'm going to present you, Count Fraffano, Dr. Watson, how are you? How grunting. Mr. Barbara Banks from the United States. Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no. Holmes, I wish I knew what you were to go to. And how can a young American girl afford to come to the anime I asked? Of course you can ask. My father made a lot of money, and he wanted me to have the advantage he never had. Your father made money because he grouted the faces of the poor. My father never ground a poor face in his life. He was a capitalist. I spit at him. Oh, that's rather unfriendly. And also, geographically speaking, something of a problem, you see, he's living in my own name. You make fun of me. Only because you make fun of me. Mr. Holmes, I did his rastening. I very grateful, Miss Banks. The office deleted in water play. He's unscared. But I waited a lot of money in front of him,
and I constipated fine as well. I'll spend it. Great scotter. He's all nice. So do I. He persuaded Miss Banks to buy the office to leave the place. My books. Michael Biddenwald? Yes, hair, ho, that. I felt that if the request came from a young American, it might seem quite reasonable. Particularly if they're a customer, accompanied by American Tarras, ground out of the faces of the poor. You are being unpleasant in the aren't you? Thank you, your war servant. The death was. Mr. Holmes, this is against the law. The whole bad war is forbidden by imperial decree. Nonetheless, my dear kind, I employ you not to arrest the office to leave until after the war is completed. In which case since I requested it, and it's still playing, I like a partner. When you dance with me, Captain Farno. I'm sorry, Miss Banks. To this melody, I shall never dance again. Oh, how about you, Dr. Watt? I wish we'd have a damn failed. I know there's less on my... my free desire used to be. In any case, I was never much of a hand of the world. She... focus more on my learn.
Me and me, I'm getting an inferiority, can't I? Please, not Miss Banks. You'll observe that the general public seems singularly unwilling to dance to. Not one couple has venture onto the floor. Can you blame them? The world before that they mean death. How can you blame them? I'm not afraid. After all, her whole body is your own music. I'll dance with you. Your most kind Miss Banks. But to be a partner, the only woman on the floor would mean ruin. An admission of failure. My third refusal, I'm a wall-plan. No, my dear Miss Banks, the aristocrats, they're afraid. But I, plain, simply groaning. I will dance with you, Mrs. Williams. So slish you here, groaning. And I assure you, my father does not grind the faces of the poor. He does grind the faces of the poor, this I know. Stop her, he's so assigned. I think not there, Holland. I think so. And I'll not stay here to watch him. You're not very doctor, I should spend my money. Yes, and we'll keep an eye on both of them. Come on, watch him. So much is leaving the room. Best counter-finalist is that it is clear and the slip behind one of those pillows.
Good lord, he's drawing her ball there. That's a good button. He's our man. Put that paper ball to counter-final. Please, I know. He's telling you to himself. Counter-finalist! I still can't believe it, Holmes. Not the fact that counter-finalist blurs brands out the perfectity of murder. Yes, I was slow to believe it too old, Chef, and I blame myself for consequence. Two things should have been instantia-parent about the madman who killed beautiful women when he heard the whole back bloss. Firstly, he must have had some motivation which grew up in such an act. Second day, Mr. Ketter involved with him at all times since he was invariably armed in the occasion presented itself. He thought the police took the sword. Then, of course, I saw the frano's motivation. He loved the princess, Stephanie D'Ele. Her death in his arms was a psychological shock that was more than his mentality could stand. When he heard that music, he reminded him of the death princess. And forced him to kill her.
That's right, Opala. We would have called it when he said to his office, he'll say, is death? What right to love and beauty have to exist in the world that no longer holds Stephanie? He heard the music he couldn't bear to think that other lobleness existed and so he destroyed it. But who killed the princess, Stephanie? An animal was supposed to resticoid, had grainy. He admitted it after the persuasion when the police arrived, taking back to prison in the carriage that just took comfort from his body. It's shocking to think that seven innocent women have been murdered before this case and so. Yes, a fact that will be a constant riprope today, I assure you. Oh, I didn't mean that, but if we went even in Vienna, when five of the killings took place. Hello, here comes Miss Banks. Miss, what happened to that funny little man who danced with me? That grinning? He went to prison in Miss Banks, he was a murderer. Well, I must say this is a strange kind of a part of you asked me to miss the home. One of the guest blows his brains out and the other, the only man who dances with me, turns out to be a murderer. Well, I see now I father sent me to Europe, leaving like this could never happen in Wyoming.
Look, look, look, the hell is walking out in front of the orchestra. There is that gentleman. There is that gentleman. I say almost all that wish to ask you upon the word of the great English detective, Jonathan, that never gains a menu of the, and accompaniments on the earth. Hence thought, which melody will be for life and love and love. I am worthy of the power of the finest hope to his thanks to each of your tables. Radio's glasses and plates me as I know conduct my woes. Free as last from the kiss of dance.
Say, Dr. R, I really like that story. That was a baffle. Yes, wasn't it? A highly placed police official in the last person in the world you'd think killed him murder. I must say, I wasn't so much to help to home, solving that case. Oh, don't let that worry you doctor. After all, Holmes almost miss solving it himself. Oh, thank you, my lord. I know it's all really, really. But it certainly was one of the most interesting cases that I was never connected with. I know what you mean. You know, I came across quite an interesting case myself the other day. Oh, you say, well, right in my own house. Oh, it's interesting. What kind of case? Sherry. Oh, the case. That's right. A case of Petri, California, Sherry. You see, I buy it by the case doctor because that Petri wine is really extraordinary. But all Petri wine is unusual wine. And usually good, because the Petri family has been making wine for generations. Because it's a soul, and because the Petri business has been owned and operated by the Petri family ever since its beginning,
and is today the largest independent family-owned wine company in America, naturally the name Petri on a bottle of wine is more than a trademark. It's the personal assurance of the Petri family every drop of wine in that bottle is good wine. Naturally good wine because Petri took time to bring you to good wine. Tonight Sherlock Holmes adventure was written by Dennis Green and Anthony Boucher, and was suggested by an incident in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's story, the adventure of illustrious clients. Music is by Dean Posler. Mr. Rathbone appears through the courtesy of Metro Goldwynnear and Mr. Bruce through the courtesy of Universal Pictures, where they are now starring in the Sherlock Holmes series. The Petri wine company of San Francisco, California, invites you to tune in again next week, same time, same station.
Sherlock Holmes comes to you from our Hollywood studio. This is Harry Barthel saying good night for the Petri family. This is the world's largest network, the mutual broadcasting system. At first when a grunting contested the killing of the Princess von Grann, I didn't believe it. When the other women were killed, I was sure that hair-growning was innocent. I at least suspected Count Reffrano of having committed the other murders. But then I said, exactly what Dennis Green and Anthony Boucher wanted. Don't you think?
