We'll talk to him about the Seahawks, the health of Sam Donald, but after just one football game and argument is broken out, I have no idea what Mikey A. and Taylor are arguing about. I have an idea that it's not about football because we've already had those arguments. What are you guys discussing? What is going on with the two of you? So it's tangentially about football because I was saying I'm watching TV last night and I see a preview for a TV show.

3:03And the second the preview comes on, I go, okay, right away I can tell this show's not for me. It's Hulu's new TV series Chad Power starring Glenn Powell, the disgraced college quarterback who adopts a fake identity to play football again. And it's basically just the skit of Eli Manning, where Eli Manning dressed up as Chad Powers, and now Glenn Powell is bringing it to TV. And you have issues with this? Yeah. I don't really have issues per se, but I could just see the previews and see Glenn Powell as an actor. Glenn Powell pretty overrated as an actor in my opinion at least. Huh, okay. See, this is where we got into first off, Taylor introduced the whole thing with Mikey A. I've seen a preview for a show that I can 100% tell you is not for me. And then he said it was Chad Powers. And now I haven't seen the show either. But if the synopsis, the first thing you're going to say in the synopsis of the show is college football. You can't dismiss it that quickly, Taylor. You are college football. Right. You can't dismiss a show that parodies a little bit of college football.

4:07And what's with all the Glenn Powell? Hey, I put it on the ball. He's fine. No, put it on the ball. Glenn Powell overrated. Yep, that's it. Just like that overrated. Yes or no? So Mikey's whole argument with Glenn Powell being a good actor was he was good in top gun Maverick. But in top gun Maverick. Perfect. No, no, he's yeah, but he's not the star in top gun Maverick. He's not even. Doesn't have. He's Tom Cruise, then the airplanes. That's it. And Miles Teller. Miles Teller is clearly a Glenn Powell too. Glenn Powell. He's a fine actor. Right. But Glenn Powell is not your starring role actor. If you have seen the movie, anyone but you starring Glenn Powell and Sydney Sweeney, one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Mikey, he's right. They could have cast it just about anybody as Goose's son in top gun Maverick and it wouldn't worked. I mean, he's in a plane. Well, he's in a fighter. He's a fighter pilot for crying out loud. Spoilers here. He doesn't play Goose's son. Miles Teller plays. That's right. My bad. I'm sorry. And I would and I would argue the the nuance layer to it is that is that

5:11Glenn Powell plays a younger version of his ice. Tom Cruise was in the original 80s movie. Yes. So it's him trying to deal with himself as a younger. That's just reading really into it. And as far as the you know, you're right though. He was like Val Kilmer in the original top gun. He was the asshole who didn't believe in Tom Cruise. Right. Yes. Yep. Exactly. Well, and the Glenn Powell Sydney Sweeney movie. That's a movie you watch on mute. You don't need to you don't need to listen to that. They're just two very good looking people. And that's all you need to do is just watch those two on mute. Okay. That's your fault for watching it. What is your exact argument though? The tailor needs to give this a chance because the show is about college football. And he is college football. I I don't like him dismissing a show based on college football either tangentially. Right. As a show that is 100% not for me. Okay. It's such a dumb premise though. Like, oh, this college quarterback, all the sudden, he goes to the makeup room and he puts on a prosthetic nose. Like if archmaning try to come back next year to play college football for a different team.

6:15And he just showed up with a prosthetic nose and everybody was like, oh my god, who is that? Yep. We know it's archmaning because of the way his arm is slinging the football around. It's a stupid premise for us. I wouldn't be surprised if kids start doing that. I didn't go to LSU. I was going to say apparently they don't have to anymore. They just have to go to LSU. We're fine to judge. It's just here comes Diego Pavia wearing a wig. Yes. No one notices. Watch the same show with the ankle pop. Tell him maybe, maybe now. Did we talk into it? Perhaps. No, it's just, it's just my problem is just going to ultimately come down to Glen Powell. Glen Powell overrated. I don't need to see anything. Glen Powell is in. He's out. Listen, I'll meet you halfway. He's a good other guy. He can't be your star. If you tell me it's this guy and this guy and Glen Powell, I'm in. The next time I see Glen Powell in a movie as the leading role play a good performance, we'll be the first time. How about that?

7:15Fair. He's not a leading man. He's not. Running man was okay. But he's drew lock is what he's saying. Essentially, right. He's the backup quarterback that comes in a couple of times in season. You're like, man, Glen Powell, if you ever got a chance to be the star, would really take over. And then he gets his chance to be the star. And you're like, oh, yes. We saw why he's the backup quarterback. So he's Matt Flynn. He also picked terrible. He picked terrible, terrible roles. We will not ask Brock you what about this next. That's a harsh word. I am more outspoken. Growing up a lot of the times because she was so quiet, I would speak for like the both of us.

8:16Now I'm working on like thinking a mom. It's really not a joke. I'm thinking before I speak. And Joey King. You know if your like mom is yelling at your sibling. And even if you're annoyed with your sibling, you just like won't let that slide. It's like, you only can yell at your sibling. I'm like, you can't do that here. That is not what I want. Talk about her like that. I just look about her. Plus we've been taking your calls, listening to your voice mails and giving advice. Or at least trying to. This man is a monster in Seattle. Brock is sulk. They have the biggest radio show going. They just had a conversation with Seahawks head coach Mike McDonald, the big show in town. Man, gets the head coach the day after the game. How was that conversation with coach McDonald, Brock? You know, it's still, it has come a long ways. So we had had coach Carroll for like a dozen years and you know coach Carroll. Yeah. Easy to you, but he loves to go and maybe overshare us like the president of communications. Dave Pearson is always in that room with us.

13:22And there'd be many times you look at Pete and like, uh, stop. And go there. And coach McDonald, kind of the inverse, everything stays in there. We've had upwards of 17 second pauses on live radio. So very thoughtful. Thanks through everything processes. You see it on their sideline demeanor as well. Yeah. Between Pete and Mike couldn't be any more different. But over the years, we've gained, I think a little bit equity and trust with Mike in that, and now, and you felt him on the hard knocks, right? You all got to see him behind the scenes and just the most genuine, vulnerable, like just authentic guy there is and super comfortable in his skin now communicating and he was pretty pumped for finding a way, right? I mean, last night was finding a way when it looked a little bleak at times when it was hard when there's backups playing and backups in the secondary and backup a quarterback. And they got proof of concept. They believe in their ready squad mentality.

14:23And I think it came to life last night. Brock, what did coach have to say about, uh, about Sam Darnold about that injury and about how long he's expecting Sam to be out? Yeah. So I think on the scale of like, uh, most horrific news, Bo Jackson, broken hip career threatening, that's a 0% chance on the chance of it's just a hip pointer, a little tweak muscle. He's back next week. That's probably also like a 0% chance. But there's nothing structural. There's nothing fractured. Adam reported that last night, Shifter. And then he's at the MRI this morning and coach just kind of shared with us that it is more muscular, kind of ligament muscular and you don't really know. But as far as like worst case, uh, they dodge that. And that's good news for Sam and the team. Yeah. Now it's like, okay, how quickly does the swelling, the pain, the function, that functionality, you know, how quickly does all of that resolve itself? You just don't, you know, with that joint in particular, you just don't know.

15:25I probably doubtful for 11 days for now with Arizona, but I don't think it's going to be something. Hopefully that stretches into the month long period. Brock, I didn't think we were going to see a repeat from the Super Bowl with Drake May. Just because of the, the moving pieces that Seattle had on defense. What is it about Mike McDonald's defense? Where every time Drake May drops back, it seems like he's second guessing what he's seeing out there. Because everything is hard. Like everything is hard unless you're Matthew Stafford. For every other quarterback, like everything is like pre snap post snap. What am I looking at? What am I seeing? You know, we're kind of a fun exercise this off season through some relationship with Philip Rivers and Kirk Cousins to get them to come onto our show and try to like bring to life how difficult it is to play Mike's scheme. And Philip was amazing. I mean, he was so funny. His little southern deal like, man, they just don't give you anything. Like you just don't, you know, there's no tell.

16:26There's no, you know, usually somebody gives you something on defense. Maybe it's the safety. But they don't, you know, they're disguised and it's so hard on a quarterback, even ones with decades of experience. And then you get someone like Dre that is still in this system, right? One year under is belt. And they had answers in the first half, right? I thought Collins worked an awesome job of like here. They're going to throw into the pressure. McDonald talked to us this morning about it. Like, yeah, they made adjustments, you know, they handled their protections differently. They made some adjustments. They had answers in that first half and it forced Mike and staff to then change. And when they adjusted, Drake and staff could not adjust because they're just, we're not answers. And you started to see the same look in his face, the same demeanor in his body that you saw in that super bowl of holy crap. I don't know what I'm looking at. And I'm making like juvenile mistakes. I'm throwing late and a double coverage.

17:26I'm throwing late down the scene. And then the final interception was just, I mean, inexcusable for any level of football and quarterback play. You mentioned any level of football. I'm going to play some sound for you. I just want you to break it down after you hear it. This is post game after the Patriot Seahawks game. Talking about high school football and Drake Mays play. Listen to this. This is how you do it locally. Okay. After your team has made it to a super bowl. Drake May has taken you to a super bowl. But you start the season 11 and lose a game you probably should have won. This is how you do it. Play it. They tried to hide him all night long with high school plays with the Zavarian playbook. High school swing pass, little runs, roll out to nowhere. High school football. The second he had to make NFL plays or throws, he was screwed. He couldn't do it. He made one NFL throw all night. That was the Holland's on one of the third downs. That was a little bit deep on an incite nice timing. He made high school plays all night long.

18:27That's what happened. And he could not step up. And that throw to end the game was to scut. That was incomprehensible and disgusting. He even put the ball with that much air under it in that situation. It was funnily. That was just a joke. You cannot do that. He blew this game and he was bad all night. I thought the only thing he produced all night was high school level plays. High school, science class, chemistry. It was awful. I see you laughing, Brocky. Yeah, well a few things. Number one, the Hasselbeck brothers, who went to Zavarian brothers, like they're pissed about that. We didn't do that at Zavarian. So don't throw us under the bus there, Paul. That's number one. Number two, that kind of channels, Paul Allen from the Minnesota radio and farve through that interception, the NFC title game. Right. Remember, he lost his ever loving mind. He couldn't believe that throw a bread farve in that moment.

19:28So those two things come to mind. And I would say this, like Drake May's legs were a big reason why they controlled the first three quarters. Yes. He ran seven times for 47 yards. He scrambled on a fourth down. He beat a third down edge. Like he made Seattle a little bit uncomfortable with his legs. And he deserves some credit for that because that slowed the guys down. But then as I said, when the Seattle adjusted, when they kept him in the pocket, when those check downs turned into collisions, when there's people now covering the little screens, which they didn't do in the first half. Well, once that happened, then the wires got busted. Then the game again sped up on him in a way where, hey, man, if you play the position and I have, there's games and moments where it just blurs. Where I have amazing clarity. It slowed down and now it's like holy crap. Everything is a blur. It sped up on me. I don't know what I'm seeing. And yeah, you lead to some decisions in that fourth quarter that were incomprehensible. How much do you love tucked away there in the northwest,

20:29making the city a boss than that angry? Well, you did it twice in seven months, right? You know, a little payback, a freaking Malcolm Butler, because he made us a little miserable for both, I don't know, 10 years. So it took the Super Bowl 60 and seven months later. This one to kind of wash that taste out of our mouth. Brock, with how competitive you would imagine the NFC West is going to be with with the Seahawks, the 49ers and the Rams. Where's your level of confidence if Sam Darnold is to miss an extended period of time that Drew Locke can keep this team afloat and in playoff contention? Yeah, you know, it's funny guys, because I actually thought also of my older brother, Damon. Damon, you know, played 12 years in the league. He backed up Marino. Marino goes down and I think they went five and one with Jimmy Johnson in that great defense. Yeah. And then Damon later on was in Kansas City when Trent Green almost died on the field. If you remember that hit, like the worst, most gruesome, he was unconscious on the field.

21:31Like it was catastrophic. And I think missed the rest of the year. And Damon came in and played unbelievable ball. Like he was the second rated QB in the league that year. And he would say to you, you know, it made it nice. Tony Gonzalez and Pres Holmes and Will Shields and Dick Vermeo. And like, he got to play in some freedom that he never like experienced. Like, this is really cool. And I think, you know, for a Drew Locke, this is the first time now in his seven years where I got JSN, like I can throw him a hitch route. And he takes it 50. I got a defense that can give me the ball over and over again in field position. And I just thought you felt Drew's confidence in that second half is just, you know, now the play calling, the operation, trying to spit it out, trying to read his wrist band that looked like the cheesecake factory menu. Like he wasn't doing too good on some of that. But I think there's a confidence level both, both personally for Drew and then collectively for the team. Like, man, this is kind of cool.

22:31Like I don't have to do a million things. Yeah. If I make five or six great plays a game and I don't turn it over, we have a chance to win. And so yeah, short term, I don't think a big deal. If it was a fractured hip and it was a long term conversation, then sure, you're talking about, you know, Matthew Stafford and Brock Purti and Shane Amigwe and we'll all get to watch him in Australia tonight. Does it bother Seattle fans? The callers to your show, the fact that all we're doing this off season is talking about the Rams and not talking about the team to beat the Rams to get to the Super Bowl. Yes. I think hard knocks out. Right. But I think hard knocks out. Yes. Right? Like, yes. Yes. I think through March and April and all miles, Garrett, all wearing Donald, all right. Like great. But then and I knew this what happens to, I knew this. And I was all about it. I'm like, you know what's going to happen. Once the world gets to see and gets a taste and gets a reminder of Leonard Williams, JSN, Sam Darnold, Mike McDonald, John Schneider, inside the walls, you know what's going to happen

23:37and sure enough, it did. All of a sudden Pat McAfee's like, oh, yeah, see how Super Bowl team like, yeah, Pat. I know. Like they want to last year, they're really, really good. Yes. You know, Nick, Nick, right. Oh, you know, but it takes that exposure. It does. It takes seeing it, feeling it, watching it like, oh, yeah, those are some bad dudes up in Seattle. And man, are they connected with one another too? Brock, I was just curious, you know, with all that good Seattle energy, what would you say to somebody who maybe picked the Seahawks not only to not repeat a Super Bowl champion, but to completely miss the playoff? That was me, Brock. I was doing a sports radio thing. I was hot takes before the season, you know, you got to take a tee. You know, you know, not all the teams that made the playoffs last year are going to make it this year. Teams that missed it are going to make it this year. You know that it's like six per season. And I just went out of the limit. I said the Seahawks not making it. It actually looks good now with a darn old injury. I mean, sure. Yeah, I'm sure five plays in. You took a shot. We're like, yeah, I'm smart.

24:38Yeah, I got this one, right? Nick, make sure you got that audio of me. I was right on that. I knew it. Are you saying I was celebrating darn old injury? I mean, yeah, let's say that. But it looked a little flake in that moment. I would say here's the thing. And this is something that like, it's not for great for sports radio. It's not possible for national television. Yeah, I understand it. Like it's impossible to know the teams nationally as well as we all do locally, live and breathing all of it. Like we know the 70th man in the roster. Like who knows that? Well, we do because the Seahawks preach that. Like that's where, you know, when Pete Carroll went to USC, you guys remember this way back when the early 2000s? He changed the college football landscape because he said, you know what we're going to do? We're going to play freshmen. And I don't care. You know, in my era, the 90s, we win with 23 year olds with hair on their chest,

25:39not 18 year olds at a high school. So we registered everybody. We developed and those were the programs and win national titles. And Pete was like, heck with that. If this 18 year olds better and he's ready to play, we're playing them. And we may take a few lumps, but we're going to win and develop. And it changed it. And it really did. And everybody went, man, that's pretty good, Pete. That's pretty good genius. And I would say that John is in Drunchnider in the Seahawks and Mike. Or like, we're going to shift this practice squad, this taxi squad, these backups. We don't have that. We like at the ready squad. If you're one of 70, you're ready. And you look last year at those 17 wins they had, it was chock full of players, 53 through 70, who made significant plays week two, week 10, playoff games, George Hullani, third serving running back. You're going to be ready. Last night, Drew, Drew, you're going to be ready. Last night, Nea, my approach at Rodney Thomas, starters, trusted in there. You guys are going to be ready. Like, and they believe that it's not just top, like they really substantially believe it.

26:42And in an era where it's all about attrition with who's left standing, who's not hurt at the end of the year. When you have 70 instead of 53, it gives you a little bit more margin than the rest. Brock, I know one thing that Seattle fans weren't happy with last night was the off sides call on the push push because when you look back at the replay, it didn't look like anybody was offside. Do you think this is just foreshadowing the NFL trying to legislate the push out of the game? Because if so, I'm kind of a fan of that and getting it out of the Eagles. Taylor, that's exactly what I tweeted. And I think my mind went with not just CX, but I think a lot of folks like, okay, it's a competition committee didn't want to do this, which I get. I don't really want the competition committee to be voting on this and coaches whatever. This is a way to say, you know what, let's really study every nitty gritty little blade of grass. And if that player is in any part in that neutral zone, like we're going to find a way to flag it

27:44and take them out of it. So yeah, I think this will be worth watching with Philly and Seattle and some of the teams that have started to major in that a little bit because that's one way to do it. Like yay, running that on fourth and sixth. If you want to on the field, hold it to the very end to degree and every last little play to grass. That might be a way for them to do it. Brock will get you out of here in a second. I love the way the team operates. A Schneider has so much confidence. Kenneth Walker wins a Super Bowl on the D.P. They're like, hey, you're good. You're a great player. Thank you for the contributions off to Kansas City. We'll take Javari. We'll take Javari and Price. And that's where I was headed with Mikey A before he embarrassed me. And I'm glad that he did. Mikey really was impressed with Javari and Price. I was impressed with Javari and Price. He needs to get the ball more. No? He does. Yes. Yeah, we asked Coach to fill in the blank because we did it with some listeners and Mike and our producer, like Javari and Price was filling the blank. And for me, it was like, powerful. There was not a run.

28:45He was knocked on his butt. There was not a run that he didn't carry somebody forward. There was not a run that was a little murky and he made more out of less. So he used a lot of power. Our producer, Morah said the exact thing that Mike McDonald did. What he answered, he said decisive. He was just decisive. Like, that's the first time getting hit in the NFL game to the ground, right? That's the first time playing at that speed on a primetime game with the whole country watching the NFL. And he was. Right? They have landmarks on outside zone. And you got to hit the outside butt cheek of the tight end. He was right on his landmark, footing the ground, go. He's got to catch a ball on a hot. He caught it. He's got to run into darkness and make a two-yard game instead of a negative one. So yeah, 10 for 52. I think it was purposeful to kind of limit some of that early. They were not going to put the big burden on him. But yeah, he did nothing to not be worthy of that 30-second pick in the draft and instill some confidence in the people around him. Yeah, look really good. What did you make quickly on the way out here?
