It was such a massive promotion that they sold out a number of Tuesday games in the summer. And that's typically been the leanest attendance. They played Tuesday through Sunday series. Typically the leanest is on the Tuesdays, particularly when school is in. The community responded and the seas went about it and said, okay, well, what are we going to do for the playoffs? You're done right. Let's do 75 cent hot dog nights. Both game on Tuesday game two on Wednesday. White caps home tomorrow to St. Louis. Four points up in the Western conference with a game in hand on second place. Houston.

6:14It is the first of three straight MLS home games for Vancouver and just leave that up for a second mic because they play St. Louis and you see them there in sixth place. What is that nine points back of the caps nine points again nine points back of the caps. Then they face the LA galaxy next Wednesday. You don't see the galaxy there. They're further down the table. Then they play Austin a week from Sunday. You don't see Austin there. They are further down on the table. This is a tremendous opportunity for Jesper Sorenson side to put even further distance between themselves. Houston Dynamo, LAFC because J Padden, we had the conversation with Manuel Veth earlier in the week. If you look at something that got away last year, it was finishing behind my amy and not having home pitch advantage for MLS couple.

7:18Yeah. Mike, I don't know if you can bring the standings back up the table as they say. But don't get locked into St. Louis sitting in sixth because they've got a game in hand on LAFC. They're really just two points out of third. So as much as you say, oh, middle of the pack kind of team, this one is probably not going to be easy for the white caps. Unfortunately, we've seen a few too many nights over the course of the season where they've made life a little more difficult on themselves than they ought to have. So hopefully they are snapped to attention. Jesper's got them ready to go. But I'm with you. This just feels like a pivotal stretch here where they really can distance themselves and set themselves up for a first place finish. Yeah. Lots of new additions for the caps. They really brought in a wave of players in the August transfer window. We haven't seen many of them get their feet wet just yet in a caps kit.

8:19But I suspect that that is coming here as they get into this busy stretch of games over the next week or so. Of course, they got Canadian championship games coming up as well. The one one draw with CF Montreal on Monday. They got a return affair in Lebel province later in the month BC Lions into Montreal tonight to face the nine into East division leading Allowettes. Allot smarting from really a poor performance last week in Winnipeg. So you know, they're going to want to get well in front of their home fans on a celebratory Friday night going into a long weekend in Montreal. First time ever that Davis, Alexander and Nathan Rourke will face each other as starting quarterbacks. Alexander is banged up. He missed a lot of practice this week with ankle or calf injuries. Many think it's just a matter of time before we see the back up there, Dustin Crumb, that a good hit or two might knock Alexander from the game that he will be a little bit impaired

9:20in terms of his ability to run with the football. The Lions are shooting for a six consecutive victory in advance of the Labor Day classics later this weekend from Regina and Calgary CFL week 14 kicks into gear. Leo's are third place in the CFL West. They could tie Saskatchewan with the victory in Montreal and a rider's loss at home to Winnipeg. And of course, the head to head victory over the riders last week at BC Place will come into play here as well, Jeff. Yeah, I'm excited for this one. I want to see what the Lions could do. They've stayed out east all week after their slow start, but good finish to beat the winless Ottawa Red Blacks. These are not the Red Blacks this week. This is a much tougher challenge. But I like the fact that they stayed out east, the time zones, all those types of things, they're going to be ready. And we'll see how they measure up. And I just, I love the reverence with which you set that game up and talked about heading into a long weekend in Montreal as if you maybe have experienced the few of it.

10:24I have. There was a time in my life I covered Ottawa football and they would usually play the allowettes on a Friday night in Montreal heading into the Labor Day weekend. I've also been texting with our old friend and colleague, Mr Trevor Martins, who was on this trip with Moj and Julia was part of the Lions radio broadcast. Yeah, they're having a blast in Montreal now. Sadly, they're going to fly out after the football game, but I can tell the team marked the Moj and Julia were enjoying themselves. If the Seahawks come through, it's a really big score. If the Rams come through, you're still making a nitty-bitty margin on that. Are you surprised he's still a cannot did you not think him infinitely tradable in the summer that was supposed to be about trades with the good contract and yet again. A couple of things. One a little bit. Yeah. Perhaps teams want to see more five on five production. Although I always do wonder about teams whose you know pop the struggles whether it's you know the Philadelphia Flyers for example. Wouldn't be interested in someone like Jake DeBrosch who does excel in the power plays. We all know. But I'm always of the mind to like we've been. We've seen a lot of rebuilds. We've seen a lot of different kinds of rebuilds and the most painful ones. The ones that you know anytime you sort of take one small step forward tend to lurch back quickly. Are the ones where you we strip it right down. We take it right down to the to the nuts and bolts like I am still very much a fan of

20:42there needs to be some players in different age demographics on this team. So the whole thing doesn't come right off the rails. Like I'm always sensitive about handing everything over to kids right and then there's also the idea of like having players in place for players for younger players to block. And if you want a job take that guy's job. You know there's the carrot in front of the mule. What was the old sign of the old when it was you know Taylor Holland Jordan Everly and Justin Schultz and Ryan Newger Hopkins with the Edmonton Oil as you'd walk in the dressing room and the first sign you'd see is earned not given. And you looked around the room and said okay you gave this guy what spot and which money and like where's the earn not given. Like I think it's a great motto for a team. And I hear all of that but do you not think you could subtract Jake DeBrosky if you're sold but you're sold as an organization this summer was to bring in these culture carriers in Brendan Gallagher and Luke Shen and you've got Brock Besser here who is universally regarded as a good guy and you know it kind of feels like there is enough. What do you make of targeting culture carriers like Gallagher and Shen? Do you think it's going to have the desired impact? So it depends which time of day you catch me. So if you catch me in a cynical time I'll say like always a good guy in the room.

25:56them how how a how a season is supposed to feel and how you're supposed to work through a season which at some point and it's got to be awful like I understand this like it's got to be awful that there's that point in the season where you realize there's no playoffs and we're not getting there and what are we playing for and it really feels like a grind and you want you don't you never want your job to feel like a job this is true anywhere you never want your job to feel like it's like it's a job and it gets harder when you realize it it's a job and at a certain place in the season for teams and players it really smacks you in the face that this is a job now I've always sort of been of the mind you know that you know inspiration is for amateurs the rest of us go to work I get that like you just wake up and you put your pants on you you go to work you don't have the weight for the mues to be upon you to do your craft and all these types of things and I think there is value in that but I also think that there's value and sort of helping to teach kids like what a real season feels like and how you behave in all the different phases the different phases of it

27:01like again like I don't think that would be matter this year like to me this is like are we not in the phase of the Vancouver Connector there's only one question that's it you've been saying this for months my friends are they getting better the kid getting the kids getting better like that's it totally don't care about wins and losses I care that they're competitive throughout a game I care like okay so at what point does this team quit during a game I think that's relevant information but the kids getting better that's it yeah that's it I would care a little bit about wins and losses wins and losses on home ice because they've been so pathetic in front of their paying public for the last two years but I hear what you're saying uh Gordon stomach Gordon stomach would always say as I as briefly as you may have been a manager you always say the same thing if you're gonna suck suck on the road that's right don't do it at home that's right just don't do it at home that's right the blood they're gonna get blown out a number of times this year uh let it be away from rhodes orina yeah do you have anything further canox with them where can we move on to these big juicy yeah yeah I want to get into some of these uh here comes what's here comes the

43:51someone who lets the cement harden around ideas that he and this is where i think a lot of successful general managers live and that is they treat information like a temporary staging post right like what is true today i respect may not be true a year from now and i need to be able to adapt we've seen plenty of front offices that are this is the way that it's been done this is the way it's going to be done and you're going to be rigid about it those are the ones that fall behind now more so than ever with the way that the game is measured and the way that the game is played continues to evolve on a normal daily basis right now you need that you need to have people that understand that information is temporary and it's always being re-evaluated and rethoughts and you need to be able to swim in those waters or the minute the cement hardens you're dead like we've seen this countless times it doesn't matter who the general manager is the minute you

44:51stop being curious and i still get the sense that goal is curious as he is sort of definitive about how he wants to run an office and i think that's one of the things that makes the successful front office right now right like you you the idea that i mean we've seen plenty of front offices before that are massive right but as i mentioned to him in the in the interview it doesn't matter if it's big if it's all the same people and they're all doing the seal clap every time the manager speaks that does nothing you just have a big front office and everybody agrees that gets you nowhere you need to surround yourself with it but like what's the what's the old saying if you're the smartest person in a room that's your fault right the idea that you want to have as many smart people around you as pop from different perspectives that allows good ideas to take hold quicker and travel farther that's what i get out of Evan gold now we'll Vancouver regret it the only thing that i don't like about what Vancouver is i i understand that you don't need to go up to
