S17 Ep1: The Good Glow - Nicola Hanney

The Good Glow

About this episode

Many of you will know who she is... Nicola Hanney joins me on the podcast today. She survived domestic abuse at the hands of her ex, and her book Stronger: What Didn’t Kill Me Made Me is a number one bestseller.

Nicola met Garda Paul Moody in 2017. Just before meeting him, she survived a stage 4 cancer diagnosis and was beginning to rebuild her life. After months of dating, Paul began to show signs of abuse, using threats and violence to control her. The abuse got so bad that over 14 hours in July 2018, Nicola received 652 messages from Paul.

In July 2022, Paul Moody was sentenced to three years in prison for coercive control—becoming one of the first in the State to be convicted of this type of abuse. Nicola’s courage in sharing her story has helped raise awareness of this often-hidden form of abuse.  If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic abuse, please reach out for help.
