Ross Tucker: Spencer Fano’s super impressive; KC Concepcion will be a rollercoaster for Browns fans

Tell me the temperature of browns fans like mix it's mixed bag. I don't think it was upset. Well, no, I it's interesting. It's why receiver at the front. Yeah, I think there was disappointment that we missed out on tape and Tyson. I think it's tough to kind of get excited about a tackle if you don't always going to be a left tackle long term. And then in fairness, it's my fault because I have been anti KC concepts a young because of the drops that I think a lot of people

1:01that's what they know of KC. KC can't catch and then a concept CO no reception. Yeah, yeah, and it stopped branding. It's good branding. Well, we're way to welcome a young man to the city. You've done it. You've done it well with open arms. I know you didn't know they would take them. So I mean, I got to tell you I mean, first of all, I like the fact that they traded down and still got the first off into the lineman off the board. So to move down three picks to pick up what they did and they still going to take anybody could have taken Monroe Freeling or Kaden Proctor or Francis Maui Noah, Spencer Fano is the guy that they targeted. I had somebody tell me they think he could start at all five spots, which is super impressive for an NFL player. Now, the flip side is if the guy is like a total freak show left tackle, they're not even talking about that. They're not even saying that. But I think you put him at left tackle.

2:02You see what he can do. I think there's a pretty good chance he's going to be able to hold it down. I personally think the arm length thing is a little bit overrated. And I think he is a really, really good player. And I'm actually putting in press overall with how the Browns have remade that offensive line. I was skeptical. I wouldn't know what they would do. But I mean, Elvin Jenkins, Ion Johnson, Titus Howard, I mean, I thought they're in a better spot up front than they were last year. And there was consents, John. I'm sure I'm not the first person to say this today on your station. But I think the Todd Munkin looked at Concepcion and Saul Zayflowers. I think he looked at Concepcion and said, I know what I did was they the last few years in Baltimore and how productive and important day was for what they were doing. Concepcion can be my Zayflowers. You want to take their highlight videos? Very, very similar. You know, undersize electric dynamics. So if I'm a Browns fan, I

3:10feel good about the trade down and still getting a number one offensive lineman. We'll see whether he ends up playing to that. But at least we know the Browns had him number one. And then I liked the idea of Munkin being able to maximize Concepcion, whatever that is. For him, Munkin obviously has a vision for him and has a track record of being able to capitalize on players with that skill set. Ross, we've heard a lot from guys like Matt Harmon, who are just adamant that the drops are just not something that they care about. And like the wide receiver community is stressing the idea that because he's so good with running all the routes and everything that happens before the catch. And then he's so good at everything that happens after the catch is made that it just kind of offshoots and off balances. Everything that happens with the idea that he does have so many drops. How do you look at it when the wide receiver community tries to make that claim? Yeah, I mean, I have it. I know Matt. I like Matt. I'm not a member, I guess, of the receiver community. I don't know. I didn't know all that. Have you been invited at least to an invite

4:13only thing? I was surprised you're not invited, though, because they'd love to have you. Well, I think I'm spending too much time as the club president of the Conditional 7th Round Pick trade. When it feels savage, when it feels savage, made arguably the best move in Brown's franchise history, trading that Conditional 7 for me back in 05 or no, 06, I think. At any rate, then he made the worst decision ever by cutting me, but that's another story. I don't agree with that at all. I think the number one job of a wide receiver is to catch the football. The position is literally called receiver, and I remember talking about this every week last year, with Flacco and then Gabriel and then Shador. Fugged the Browns had more than their fair share of drops, and it's just really hard. It's not easy to get guys open, the scheme I'm open, and then the line protects the quarterback reads it right. The quarterback throws the ball

5:16to the right guy. And then the guy drops the ball. Those are hard to come back from, because it's still like inevitably, it happens on 3rd and 6th, or some of these high leverage downs, which is what we say about everything now, high leverage. And so I think that is a concern, and yeah, I don't know exactly what his drop rate is or whatever, or if they believe that there are things that they can do to improve it. It was 10% last year. Yeah, I guess the way I look at it is, you know how when these guys come into the NBA, a lot of them, they can't really shoot that great, but then three years later, it's like they never miss, or you know, they're a much better shooter, just because they're professionals, and it's all they do now. I wonder if they look at that like that for receivers, and feel like, hey, we can get that, we can improve that for conception. Maybe they felt like some of it had to do with the quarterback at A&M, I don't know. I know a lot of people really like conception. I mean, the guy is electric, and he's going to be a roller coaster

6:24for Brown fans, because he's going to have some of the best, most explosive plays that you guys have seen in years, and the thing is going to go crazy, and then he probably will have a couple of drops, where you guys are going to groan. The hope would be that obviously the former far-out tasers the latter. All right, so I know you said you think it's a little overrated, but I think it's interesting that the, at least people in football have gone on damage control about Spencer Fondo's arms, saying that basically the combine shorted the man's seven eighths of an inch. Spencer Fondo actually said today both the Browns and Steelers measured his arms at 33 inches on their respective official visits. Am I the only person new to the fact that apparently the combine arm measurement crew isn't up to snuff? You're not the only person, but what's wild is is that there's been a between like they do it like at the senior bowl in the All-Star Games,

7:29and then they do it the combine, and then sometimes they do it the pro day, and between those three measurements, it can vary by an inch. So what you end up doing probably is taking the middle. You know, I remember when I was coming out, sometimes I was six four and three eighths, sometimes I was six four and six eighths, which is three quarters, Nick. I know, Matt's not your strength, but most of the time I was six four and five eighths, and it's like, is that going to be different from whether I'm good or not? Like an eighth of an inch one way or the other. I just don't believe, I don't believe, I don't believe for Spencer Fondo that the arm length is going to determine, you know, it's not like he's me, I had sub 31 inch arms, which is ridiculous, which is why I should get a lot more credit for being one of the 10 best offensive linemen NFL history with sub 31 inch arms, rather than just a journeyman or whatever. I don't think it's that short, that that's going to be the difference. What was your favorite pick from last night,

8:34or favorite thing you saw a team do? Good question. You know, it's funny about that, Jonathan. The stuff that comes to mind, I'm not a negative person. You guys know, I come on all the time and I'm a positive person. For some reason, I feel like the things that jump out to me are the negatives. I guess I really liked what the Jets did. You know, the Jets at number two, first of all, the Jets traded sauce gardener and Quentin Williams. They have three first round picks next year when you're talking about like Leonard Moore from Notre Dame, Jeremiah Smith, Ohio State, Dylan Stewart, South Carolina, you know, all the quarterbacks. You know, you talk to any NFL team, they'll tell you they'd rather have a first round pick next year than this year. So I already like what the Jets and Musi had done getting those three first round picks for next year, then they end up having three picks this year with David Bailey, pretty much the consensus

9:35best ed rusher at two. Then you get the best tight end by far in Kenyon Sadiq at 16. Then you come back in and get Omar Cooper, one of the, I don't know, top four or five receivers at number 30. I think all three of those guys will start. I think the Jets need those guys to start. So I kind of like what the Jets have done with all these trades, all these moves the last year or so. So one of the big moments of the night, the big one of the first big surprises, Tys Simpson, going to the Rams at 13. And then as the night progressed, we heard back from McVeigh, back in the owners meeting saying he hadn't really done a lot of work on Tys Simpson because they had other needs. There was the press conference where Sean McVeigh seemed pissed and let's need looked over at him multiple times like you want to chime in here, buddy. I'm just, I like it's interesting because I thought that was the perfect spot for Tys Simpson given staff for given the winning culture there. But if McVeigh doesn't want him, should we be selling our Tys Simpson

10:38stock before he even starts a game or even gets into the practice? Well, so I disagree with your with your initial premise. I don't believe for a second that McVeigh didn't want Tys Simpson. I mean, you're talking about arguably the best head coach in the NFL. The Rams know exactly what they have in McVeigh. Any guy that's O.C. or D.C. there gets a head job somewhere else. They know that McVeigh is one of the few coaches that actually brings eyeballs and excitement to a franchise to think that after they had the season they had last year and how they feel about McVeigh that they would take the quarterback of the future without him being on board is laughable. What value is there in taking Tys Simpson if McVeigh is not on board and he leaves one staffer to retire. I mean, you don't have McVeigh anymore. I mean, the value in Tys Simpson

11:39is being coached by McVeigh. I think what McVeigh did and I feel pretty strongly about this was performative. I think he knew these clips. We're going to be all over and he needs to be able to sell to Matthew Stafford the veterans on the leadership committee that guys didn't know. They kind of went over my head on this one. You know, I told him he was all right, but I wanted the guy to help us win the Super Bowl this year. I think he knows he couldn't be like giddy. I'm so excited about Tys Simpson. Yeah, I can't wait for Stafford to retire so Tys Simpson can be our quarterback. He knew he couldn't do that because I think he knows that those guys are not going to be happy. They're better in player. It's going to be happy that you just got a guy that's going to help out the team maybe in 2028. Those guys are furious and they should be. They might have been the best team in the league last year. Stafford was MVP. They were one play away in two

12:40different games in Seattle from basically winning the Super Bowl. And so I think McVeigh did a very smart thing to act like he wasn't totally on board. I'm not buying it. Ross, you know our quarterback room. It's Tyshawn. It should do it. It's still in Gabriel. Do you feel like the Browns will add to that this weekend or they'll just stay Pat? That's a really good question. No, I mean, I would think given the volume of picks they have, JP, I would think that if there's someone that Munkin likes, I think that they might take them, you know, with all those third, fourths, fifths, round picks, that's a lot. So it gives them the opportunity to take to Aller, Nussmeyer, whoever, you know, whoever that they feel like they get. And they proved last year that they like getting what they think is, you know, depressed asset. They like getting what

13:42they think is value with the Shoulder Sanders pick. So that would not surprise me. But I don't need to need to. You have two super young quarterbacks. And you guys have to tell me it. It seemed that there's a lot of a lot of steam coming out of Cleveland about to show them off and having a real shot to be the quarterback. Oh, there is some steam there. There's a lot of people selling that steam. Ross, he did the thing that we all knew he would, which in the one day was open to the media, he looked awesome in practice because he's always looked awesome in practice. Yeah, I'm always skeptical of those guys, you know, it's a lot different when you're wearing that jersey and nobody's allowed to touch you. It's a lot, it's a lot different in that regard. But honestly, it's probably worth a shot, you know, at least in training camp and many camp and maybe it's probably worth a shot to see if you can rehab them if you can get them to play back what it used to be. I mean, I know we've all given up on them with the injuries and whatever, but he's only really struggled under one coach. And that was Kevin Savansky. So maybe it's worth

14:47giving them a second chance. You gave them all this money anyway. Might as well give them a spin. Ross, you mentioned a couple of names in quarterback. They're Drew Aller, who's from down the road in Medina. Garrett Nussmeyer's got a lot of fans. Carson Beck played for Todd Monkin back at Georgia. Do you have a favorite of the day two day three quarterbacks? Regardless of their fit with the Browns? Yeah, probably. But it's like from a pure entertainment standpoint, tailing green from Arkansas. So my favorite player growing up was Randall Cunningham. And when I watched tailing green, who's like six, six, two, thirty, ran a four, three, jumped 40 inches. I can't unsee Randall Cunningham. And Monkin worked wonders with Lamar the last few years and Baltimore. Absolutely wonders. He took

15:49Lamar's game to a much higher level from a passing standpoint. If you say this year, it's going to be primarily about the Sean and Shedore. I kind of like the idea of taking tailing green later in the draft and having him as number three and working with him and developing him. And depending on how things play out, maybe he plays the last five weeks. You know, maybe he gets out there and maybe you can see if you have something there or if you have to get the franchise guy in 2027. All right, Ron.
