Real Madrid Controlled the Match. Real Betis Controlled What Mattered.

0:00Real Madrid's perfect beginning under Jose Mordinho has come to an end. Real Bay Tees defeated Real Madrid 1-0 in Seville after one of the most dramatic finishes we are likely to see this season. Troy Parrott scored the only goal late in the second half. Killing and Bop A struck the crossbar and Young striker Carlos S.B. produced a spectacular bicycle kick, unfortunately that was disallowed due to offside. Deep in stoppage time Real Madrid had one final chance from the penalty spot and Bop A stepped forward but was denied. Real Bay Tees completed a remarkable victory and for Real Madrid it was clearly a painful defeat and not because they played terribly but because they did enough to control the match and still failed in every single decisive moment. For Real Bay Tees it was an extraordinary demonstration of patience, resilience, confidence and belief. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Into the Net FC.

1:00My name is Alex Alcazaz and I'm also known as the Bear of Texas. And unfortunately this loss is definitely humiliating and frustrating for Real Madrid. And even though so he might say it was not quite as humiliating as you think, it was absolutely 100% humiliating because again not because Real Madrid played terribly but because they did enough to control the match. But still failed in every single decisive moment. Jose Moreno made several changes to the team that defeated Malaga before this game. Denzel Dumpfri started at right back. Ibrahim Kone, Konate partnered with Dean Hoyasin in Central Defense while Marc Cucurea continued on the left. Eduardo Camavinga and Federico Valverde operated in the midfield. Arda Goulair returned to the starting lineup, joining Jude Bellingham and Venetius Jr. behind Killian and Bope. Real Madrid wanted to control possession and establish the match inside the Bay Tees half.

2:01Camavinga frequently dropped deeper to help the setterbacks begin the attack. And this allowed Dean Hoyasin to move the ball forward and give Real Madrid another passing option when Bay Tees attempted to apply pressure. The structure for Real Madrid worked. They were able to advance the ball consistently. They found positions around the Bay Tees penalty area and they created enough opportunities to win the match. Unfortunately, the failure came afterward because they could not turn control into goals. Arda Goulair was obviously Real Madrid's most influential creator during the first half of the game. He moved intelligently between the midfield and defensive line. When Bay Tees attempted to protect the center, Goulair drifted toward the right and found space. When the defense moved toward him, he looked for Jude Bellingham, Venetius Jr. or Killian and Bope. Arda Goulair, his passing repeatedly placed Real Madrid in such promising situation.

3:04He was not simply moving the ball safely. He was attempting to break Bay Tees apart and this was precisely what Moreno needed Arda Goulair to do. Real Madrid had plenty of ball possession but Arda Goulair gave that possession some direction. The problem, however, was that his teammates did not reward the quality of his work. The final pass was not always controlled. The movement inside the penalty area was sometimes late and when chances arrived, the finishing lacked precision. Arda Goulair was creating the possibilities but Real Madrid were failing to complete them. Real Bay Tees deserved tremendous credit for surviving Real Madrid's pressure. Manuel Pellegrini, the manager of Real Bay Tees, understood that his team could not transform the match into an uncontrolled exchange. If Real Bay Tees, attacks recklessly, Madrid possessed enough speed to destroy them during the transitions. Instead,

4:06Bay Tees defended compactly and attempted to limit the space around Killian and Bope. Their defenders stayed connected and their midfield worked hard in front of them. Whenever Real Madrid moved the ball forward toward the wings, Real Bay Tees attempted to protect the central areas rather than allowing runners to attack the goal freely. They did not prevent every opportunity, that would have been highly impossible. But they'd made Real Madrid work repeatedly without allowing the visitors to establish any attacking rhythm that felt unstoppable. The longer the match remained scourless, the more confident Real Bay Tees became. Real Madrid controlled much of the play, Real Bay Tees controlled the emotions and that difference became increasingly important throughout the match. Real Madrid had a serious finishing problem. This was not a match in which Madrid lacked opportunities because the opportunities were definitely there. This, however, was a match in which their attacking stars failed to finish. And Bope found shooting positions but cannot provide

5:07the decisive touch. Vinicius Jr. worked to create separation on the left but experienced a difficult individual battle against Hector Belorin. Belingham was influential when carrying the ball forward during his first half but his effect on the match weakened after the break. Federico Valverde also struggled to impose himself consistently and Real Madrid were moving into dangerous positions without producing a complete attacking action. A strong pass was followed by a poor touch and intelligent run was followed by an inaccurate finish. A promising combination ended with hesitation and the quality was present in pieces. The final action was missing, however, and this is what makes the defeat particularly very frustrating for Real Madrid. Real Madrid were not technically overwhelmed. They were not unable to progress the ball. They simply failed to complete the work they had already done. And the match did have some changes after half time. The pace certainly dropped during the second half. The heat in Seville played a

6:10role, apparently, but the change also benefited Real Bay Tees. Real Madrid were no longer moving the ball with the same energy. Arta Gouler remained creative but he was carrying a yellow card. Jose Moreno became concerned that Bay Tees might draw him into another challenge and place him at risk of being sent off with another yellow card which of course equalizes a red which results in dismissal and possible further action. So that created a very difficult situation or decision rather. Arta Gouler was one of Real Madrid's best players, but leaving him on the field carried such a significant genuine risk. So Jose Moreno eventually took him out of the game as part of a series of changes. Bernardo Silva replaced Kamavinga, Trent Alexander Arnold replaced Dunsel Dumfries and Jan Dio Monde replaced Arta Gouler. So therefore the intention was quite clear. Bernardo could help Madrid circulate the ball. Trent Alexander Arnold could provide more accurate

7:12service from the right. Dio Monde could introduce energy and direct running. However removing Arta Gouler also took Real Madrid's most consistent creative influence out of the match. The decision however was understandable. However while understandable it was certainly costly. Real Madrid continued attacking but the connections around the penalty area became less natural. So while Jose Moreno attempted to refresh Real Madrid, Pellegrini, Real Batis's manager made the changes that also decided to match. Troy Parrott entered during the second half and Parrott did not need time to become comfortable. He remained alert and he occupied Real Madrid's defenders and he waited for his opportunity. The opportunity arrived from a Real Batis set piece. The initial header forced Tibalcau to an excellent save. However Tibalcau could only push the ball away. Parrott reacted before Real Madrid's defense was able to do so. Parrott reached the rebound and he

8:13was able to make the finish and the goal was definitely not Tibalcau's fault. He had already made the very difficult save. The problem was that Real Madrid's response to the second ball. A defense cannot assume the danger has ended simply because the goal he stops the initial attempt. Somebody has to react. Somebody has to track the forward. Somebody must clear the rebound and Real Madrid failed to do any of those things quickly enough. Parrott did exactly what a substitute striker is supposed to do. He remained prepared for the one moment that could decide the match and when it arrived, he simply took it. There was also a remarkable personal connection between the winning goal. Joyce Murinho gave Parrott his first Premier League match. He gave him his Premier League debut when they were together at Tottenham. Several years later, Parrott returned to Punish Murinho's Real Madrid. Football produces such strange moments. A young player that Murinho

9:17once introduced to English football became the man who handed him his first defeat in his second spell with Real Madrid. That history does not determine the result, however, but it does in fact give the winning goal some additional meaning. Parrott's journey has not always been simple. He has had to develop away from the English Premier League and rebuild his career. Now, on his home debut for Real Betis, he has produced a finish that defeated Real Madrid and that, ladies and gentlemen, is an extraordinary personal moment. Conceiting finally restored some urgency for Real Madrid. Almost immediately after conceding and boppé attempted to score only to strike the crossbar. It was another reminder of how close Real Madrid were to changing the result and how little those moments better when the ball refuses to go into the back of the net. Murinho soon introduced Carlos Espí. The young striker gave Real Madrid something that they had lacked. He was able to

10:18occupy the penalty area with such aggression. He was able to attack the crosses. He treated every opportunity as though it could decide the match. Vinicius Jr delivered an excellent outside of the foot pass towards Carlos Espí. An Espí responded with a magnificent bicycle kick and a ball went into the back of the net. So for a brief moment, Real Madrid believed and were convinced that they had equalized. And then the VAR review intervened and the goal was ruled out because of an offside earlier in the move. The decision was extremely tight but the goal, however, was not able to stand. Espí should still receive enormous credit. He entered late, accepted the pressure and produced a finish of exceptional quality. He did everything a substitute could be asked to do. The offside did not erase his technique, confidence, nor his potential. But Real Madrid continued to push deep into stoppage time. A player by the name of Nathan

11:20brought down Vinicius Jr. in the penalty area, the referee pointed to the spot and awarded a penalty for Real Madrid. After hitting the crossbar and having an equalizer disallowed, Real Madrid were given one final chance to rescue the match. Killing and Boppe stepped up. That's what the leading forward is supposed to do. Real Betis Goli, Alvaro Vias stood in his way. Vias read the penalty, moved correctly and made the save and the stadium erupted. For killing and Boppe, it was indeed a very brutal evening. He had his opportunities during the match. He struck the crossbar. He missed the penalty that could have saved Real Madrid from defeat. So it would be very easy to blame everything on killing at Boppe, but that would also be quite unfair. And Boppe certainly carries the responsibility for the missed penalty, but Real Madrid had spent the entire match failing to convert chances. The defeat was not created by one kick, but that kick was simply Madrid's final failure.

12:26So Alvaro Vias earned his moment. He deserves more than being described as the Goli who benefited from denying killing and Boppe. He earned the save. He remained composed under enormous pressure. He understood that the penalty could define the entire evening and facing and Boppe in stoppage time with Real Madrid desperate for an equalizer is one of the most demanding situations goalkeeper can experience. Vias did not appear to be overwhelmed. He simply trusted his preparation. He committed to his decision and he protected the victory. Bates defended collectively throughout the match and Vias completed that effort personally. Parrott scored the winning goal and Vias made sure it remained the winning goal. After the match, Jose Murillo said he could not explain exactly how Real Madrid lost. He did praise the collective performance and he refused to criticize and Boppe individually. His central point is understandable. Madrid controlled much of the contest and created

13:30enough opportunities to win the game. But Jose Murillo also delivered the most important truth of the evening. Deserving to win does not produce points. Let me say that again. Deserving to win does not produce points. Real Madrid can take encouragement from this performance. Their structure was generally strong. Hoyasin and Konate handled their defensive responsibilities quite well. Eduardo Camarvina helped the team progress some possession. Arda Gouler created the openings. SB made an excellent contribution from the bench but Real Madrid cannot hide behind the idea behind the idea that they deserved more. Elite teams are only judged by the execution. Bates executed the two moments that mattered most. Parrott converted the rebound and Vias saved the penalty. Real Madrid did neither. So ladies and gentlemen, there's a huge question to be asked.

14:32To be asked and someone would say this is quite the one million dollar question. So here it is. Was Jose Murillo correct to take out Arda Gouler from the match? Well the decision certainly deserves to be discussed. Arda Gouler was playing extremely well. However, his yellow card did create some danger. Murillo believed that Bates were attempting to use their experience and energy of the crowd to place Arda Gouler under immense great pressure. Protecting the team from a possible red card was certainly reasonable in Jose Murillo's case. However, once Arda Gouler left, Real Madrid lost some of their attacking imagination. Bernardo Silva helped maintain possession but possession was not Madrid's greatest problem. They needed someone who could continue unlocking the Bates defense. Arda Gouler had been doing just that. So this was not necessarily a terrible substitution. It was a difficult decision that obviously had consequences.

15:32Murillo removed the risk of playing with 10 men. So we got to give him that. So while Murillo removed the risk of playing with 10 men, by doing so, he also removed one of the players who was most likely going to be the one to create the winning goal. This is the kind of decision managers are judged only after the outcome becomes known. Real Bates deserves full credit. Now this result should not be reduced to Real Madrid-wasting chances. Bates earned the victory. They defended with discipline. They survived difficult periods. They trusted their goalie and Pellegrini introduced Parrot at the right time. And Real Madrid became desperate. Real Bates maintained enough composure to protect the advantage. They were also intelligent around the emotional side of the match. They slowed down Real Madrid's rhythm. They used the support of the home crowd. They made the match uncomfortable. Murillo described Real Bates as more streetwise. This was not necessarily criticism. And understanding how to manage the emotional

16:35temperature of a match is part of elite football. Real Bates knew they could not defeat Real Madrid through talent alone. They needed patience. They needed resilience. And most of all, they needed perfect execution in the decisive moments. And they were able to produce all three. So what does the defeat mean for Real Madrid? Well, as we know, this was Real Madrid's first league defeat under Jose Mourinho since his return to the Spanish capital. It ended their perfect beginning and opened the door for Barcelona to move ahead. But one defeat is not destroyed the progress Real Madrid has displayed in their opening matches. The greater concern would be learning nothing from it. So Real Madrid must understand that dominance without efficiency is quite fragile. A team can control the ball, create chances, and defend well for most of a match. But one poorly defended rebound can erase everything. Their attacking players also need to share some responsibility

17:37in this one. Killian and Bope cannot be and should not be expected to finish every single opportunity. Vinicius Jr. must become more decisive. Jude Bellingham must sustain his influence after half time. Valverde must become more involved. And when Art of Goulare creates chances, those around him need to be able to convert. Real Madrid possesses, excuse me, tremendous attacking quality. This match showed that quality can become quite wasteful. Now the importance of Carlos SP is definitely there. One positive development was the performance of Carlos SP because he entered the game without any fear. His disallowed bicycle kick demonstrated technique and a demonstrated confidence. His movement gave Madrid a genuine central presence during the closing stages. Jose Moreno praised his potential, his humility, and his willingness to learn after the match. And that praise was in fact well deserved. Real Madrid should not react to one appearance by

18:41placing enormous expectations on one young player. But Carlos SP demonstrated that he can offer something highly useful. When matches become congested and Real Madrid need a striker to attack the crosses, Carlos SP is the one who can provide a different option. Unfortunately, his goal did not count. However, his performance still matters. This was one of the most painful ways Real Madrid could have lost. They controlled long periods of the match. They created the opportunities. They struck the crossbar. They produced a spectacular equalizer that was unfortunately disallowed. And they received a penalty and stoppage time. And still, they left Saville without a goal and without a point. Real Betis remained patient until their moment arrived. Parrot reached first to the rebound. Valles stood for him against Killian and Bope and those two actions decided everything. Real Madrid should not panic. The performance contained several encouraging elements.

19:42Artigooler was excellent in his unique creative ways. Let me just put it like that. Dean Hoyerson continued looking composed. Camarvina helped control the build up. Carlos SP made an immediate impression, but encouragement cannot replace accountability. The bottom line is Real Madrid failed to finish. They failed to finish. They failed to protect the decisive second ball. And when Real Madrid was given one final opportunity, they failed again. That is why this defeat feels so cruel. Real Madrid did not lose because they were thoroughly outplayed. Real Madrid lost because Real Betis was stronger in the only moments the scoreboard remembers. There is right there. Real Betis was stronger in the only moments that the scoreboard remembers. Overall, Real Madrid had their chances. They had their chances. And guess what? They did not get the job done. Therefore, Real Madrid has suffered their first loss
