Cody Stovall, Lockdown, Oklahoma State. Hey, Cody. Steven Willis of Lockdown Ole Miss, Alex Donum of Lockdown Canes. What's it like to be 2-0? Anybody know? Cody, you can't speak here. Yeah, Jay, liking it? Yeah. Like it's straight? Good? Thumbs up? Donum? Yeah, 2-0. Yeah, pretty good. This is 2-0 after they marched down the field after the missed field goal, Bito, Ohio State. It was a historic comeback if you guys did not know. They're the first team to ever trail by 20 or more points in a quarter against the number

2:03one AP team come back and win the game. So pretty remarkable feat. And Willis, I want to go to you first. You're down there in SEC country. This feels like the potential if Texas has a great year to be the moment that Arch Manning's legacy shifted into legendary status. Listen, that was an early season, Heisman moment just because of the game. You come back from 20 points down. They win the game. They win 11 games. He's going to get a lot of credit. It's going to be really hard to keep him off the stand in New York, especially with the momentum coming from this game. I'm really impressed. And anytime a Manning does well, me being locked on Ole Miss, we are very sensitive about Manning's doing well. And it's good to see it. He's obviously Cooper's kid. He was like another one of our Manning's. But I am happy for the family and I genuinely think the SEC missed an opportunity to send him dogs for this year. Yes indeed.

3:03Yeah, should have. Should have what I could have. Donno, is this just too much for Dairy Amensa or Malachai Tony to overcome in Heisman race down the line because boy, the Manning brand, the Texas brand, beating Ohio State is, doesn't get much bigger than that. I mean, I think the X factor in terms of Miami, Miami doesn't have that many opportunities to create moments like that because the schedule sucks. But for Miami, the one you have circled is Notre Dame on the road November 7th. So that would be the opportunity because you know Dairy and Mensa is going to put up video game numbers with the way he's playing and against Miami's schedule. So the numbers are going to be there. Obviously, he's not going to have as many opportunities as arch for signature wins. But if Mensa, if he hypothetically lights it up in South Bend, all bets are off. Yeah, that would probably be the moment that he'd have to have. Jake, did you watch this game and think arch Manning is going to fulfill the prophecy as it was foretold?

4:03Or did he have one great quarter of football after the Texas offense sputtered for three quarters? The thing about it is I turned into that game right at the start of the fourth quarter. I was like, Oh, jeez, they're down 20. What's going to happen here? You're right. I think what Steven said is he had a Heisman like moment in that final quarter because he marches his team down the field three different times, scores that go ahead, touch down. And then his defense steps up and finishes the game off and find fashion. And I thought it was a coming of age moment for arch. Remember, he was the guy when he came out of high school because to Steven's point, the Mannings are one of the, I don't know, two or three families we talk about royalty. Yeah, royalty. And he was supposed to be, I think in many people's eyes, a lot better earlier on in his career, but he has come along bit by bit. And I thought that that was a coming of age moment for him in many ways playing for the long horns in that fourth quarter. Cody, one of the downsides as RDR, he mentioned it is whenever you have two players on the same

5:04team, they're going to be worthy of garnering votes. That always seemed to take away a little bit. Not naturally, the quarterback typically will separate himself in this conversation, but it's going to be hard, right? Because you could easily say as of now that Malak Kaitoni might be more deserving, he might be the most athletic player in the entire country. But Darian Mences, the quarterback, the quarterback is the sexy spot. And the quarterback has to compete with the other quarterback that just what happens to be a manning. So it might be. And it's a great point, Cody, about Tony and Mences. And I agree with you. If I personally had to pick which guy Malak Kaitoni, just how versatile he is and how much he does, but Mences, a quarterback and Mences actually despite what Arch did the other night, I'm actually surprised by this. Mences still currently has the best odds to win the Heisman at this very moment. But man, I thought that game last night, not only for Arch, but also for Sark. I mean, guys, think about the narratives. Yeah. I was smashed for last night and it's why. And I know obviously Ohio State fans, you know, feel terrible becoming the first AP number one team

6:10in 198 tries. AP number ones were 197 and oh, when leading by 20 points in the fourth quarter. Now 197 and one, understandably Ohio State fans feel terrible. But I think that was a better, it was more of a win for Texas than it was a loss for Ohio State. If that makes any sense because at the end of the day Ohio State, they lost to a top five team on the road. But that's not that much of a risk making. I'm not entirely there. I wanted to get to the Ohio State of it. Cody, I did just want to point out I wasn't forgetting about you there, Powell. I was, we were going to get you in. I wasn't just sitting over here being like, yeah, I'm going to bring Cody on just for show or anything of that. I'm not concerned that you can get to it when you want to get to it because it's going to get still. We're still friends in spite of transgressions that took place over the weekend that we will talk about on this show. A testrophy. Oh, why did I think of that? Oh my gosh, now I'm just upset.

7:11That's, oh, Quack, did you trademark that? I might tweet that. I want to get to the Ohio State of this Texas Ohio State matchup because on the one hand, they looked like the team that I picked to win the national championship before the season. And then all of a sudden, Jake, when it got tight, I've been a Julian Sain defender. I have to soften at least a little. I've not been on a defender. I've been a huge fan of Julian Sain. He was one of my top five quarterbacks in the country coming into the year. It wasn't all bad, but man, there were moments where you're like, I don't feel like he's got it right now. And yet when the game was on the line, arch had it and he made the place. Yeah, here's the thing about this. Say it's not taking the heat, at least for my vantage point. It's Ryan Day that's taking the heat. Like that, that's the thing about this. Ryan Day, it seemed like he just did not have an answer on either side of things to figure out what was going on in that fourth court. And yes, the momentum completely shifted you right.

8:13But Julian Sain, yeah, he crumbled a bit in that fourth quarter, whereas Archmaning rose to the occasion. These are still two very, very good quarterbacks, but we've talked about Dary and Minson. There's some really elite quarterback play around this country right now. I think that Sain's going to be fine. I think that he'll recover from this. It's just one of those games that come to the end of the season. People are going to remember back to what happened when Ohio State crumbled in the fourth and Texas rose to the occasion and rallied for that win. Cody, I told you we're going to get to it, man. You don't have to rub it in this circle. Listen, Jake, what he was trying to say was you got through a domestic or not conversation. I just didn't want to make sure that it got glossed over there. Okay, I was just helping Jake out, man. Don't mind me. Steven Trinidad-Jambless is really good. Would you take him over Archmaning after this game? I will. And if you want to look at next week's game, he has a shot at his Heisman moment too. If Ole Miss Beat sell a shield in the weekend, all of a sudden that Arch's Trinidad game in Austin, there's some juice on that one the week before Halloween.

9:17So I like where Ole Miss Beat would Trinidad. I think that game is going to be an absolute war. I mean, even remove the lane kiffing stuff from this, when Ole Miss and LSU are both really good, that game is special and it always has been. Put that on top of it. It's just putting gasoline onto the jet fuel and all the fire and all that. Let's just burn it down and that's kind of where we are right now. Yeah, I'm actually just now processing that we are finally to Ole Miss LSU week, the game that I'm most excited about in all of college football this year. So, Dono, what do you guys play on Tuesday this week? You get an action with Miami-Skate. I hate the ACC so much. Miami plays on a Friday this week. Again? Yes, it was a Friday to open the season against Stanford. A Thursday night against FAMU. A Friday against Wake Forest and then I'm really sure it's all Saturdays from that point forward,

10:18which is awesome once we get to that point. I mean, it was actually supposed to have a Friday. They will wreck the virus. They'll find a way to flex one of those Saturdays into a Friday. We're flexing the Friday. Dono, it sounds like Miami is like the leader in the clubhouse for the Mississippi Junior College Championship. Yeah, I'm so glad. I mean, I think the ACC just does this, because they want Mario Cristobal to be so upset about not being able to bring recruiting visitors to games when you do it on nights that high school teams are playing. Like, I think they love to throw Mario. They love to throw Mario in conspiratorial here, but... I mean, Mario, you guys are things... They can spy... Hey, maybe, maybe just maybe. The Big Ten should add to their conference depth and just bootruckers and have Miami be the other East Coast school with Maryland because Van Riker is so... Which, by the way, this was a bad weekend for narratives. And everybody's talking about the Big Ten and the SEC. Other than Oklahoma completely, I don't know what happened there. That's a weird thing.

11:18I know what happened there. And Arkansas went West one time zone and completely forgot how to play football, but you take those two away. Yeah, you take away the SEC's losses. They're undefeated, man. There you go. There's only two. There's only two. Man, you take those Ls out and you are... What is it? The Big Ten is like six and nine. And non-conference this year or so far? I think it's the most amazing... Honestly, I think the... Like Ohio State and Texas, obviously, it was a coin flip game. And that's kind of what everyone expected going in. I think the biggest jab that the SEC got against the Big Ten this week is... Mississippi State went to Minnesota. Beat that daylights out of the... All the way out of the Golden Yover State. I mean, whoa. And I thought Minnesota would win the game because they were undefeated at home. And I think they're higher in the Big Ten than Mississippi State. And the SEC said, hey, maybe... Maybe just maybe. We got to watch out for Mississippi State.

12:18Yep. Next year's Spencer. Minnesota has to go down to Starkville on September 11. It's going to be 137 degrees. And the boys from Minnesota are going to melt. Yeah, maybe Minnesota need that game to be in November when it was colder. And Camario Taylor couldn't throw a fastball at 118 miles per hour, approximately. Jacob Mizorowski has nothing on Camario Taylor. I am 100% convinced in that. I'm also 100% convinced. I, as an organ guy, am not going to enjoy the next second. So you can get my full thoughts. I'm going to put out, I don't know, 10 podcast episodes on everything that went wrong with that game. From now between Friday. We'll see how much time I end up having. I'm going to try and play golf and take my mind off it. Might not work. So Oregon did nothing right.

15:22Literally, I'm not kidding through two games. The only things Oregon does well. Their punter and their kicker are awesome. Fantastic. 10 out of 10. Five stars. No notes. Did you know that Oregon's punter on Saturday had a long of 67 and an average of 52.6 for the game? I mean, how do you lose when that's happening? I don't know. Yeah, thank you. I know how they lost. Super Melody's. Poor. Yeah, him. Poor coordinator game plans. Lack of adjustments. Sloppy play. Lack of focus. Low energy. Probably some heat. Exhaustion in there as well. And just a general, you know, bad football team. Anyone want to explain to me why Oregon's ranked in the AP top 25? Just any. I've got the Oregon flag up right there. Anyway, yes. Don't go ahead. I mean, because AP voters are lazy. And even though now we have two weeks of on field data, they still defer to, oh, what was this team ranked pre-season?

16:27Oh, we had a number two. So we can't drop them that far. I don't see any other reason than that. No, I mean, you wouldn't do it that way if you're ranking it strictly based on two games. No, when's the top 25 comes out this week? Oregon's not going to be in it. And also, if you think about it, they don't even just do that. Like they give LSU credit for beating 2018 Cumpsum with Trevor Lawrence and Derek at the end and not the Cumpsum that went out on the field this year that squeaked by Georgia's Southern. I mean, they get credit for that logo on the side of the helmet. It's like, hey, we're going to even go back to like 2018. We got this. All right. We won't make a comment. How many how many how many teams in the country have more projected NFL potential on the roster than Oregon? That's why there's still a top 25 because when you're looking at the projected NFL draft picks, it is still Oregon and Ohio State and Miami and Alabama and Georgia. That's what it is. That's where we are. It's a world that we live in. And you know what, buddy? It's a world that I love so much right now.

17:27And let's not bring up the heat. Okay, because one famous Dan Lanning himself said that he is good. We just drink more water, man. Just stay hydrated. And you will be able to call home a state in the heat, the sleep, the sun, the shine, the snow. It don't matter. Unless you got that dude, Drew Mestemaker in front of all the NFL scouts that all came to see Dante Moore and DeCory and Moore, but they left seeing Drew Mestemaker and talking about Kale Hawkins and Justin Foeck. It's a great day, but you know what, buddy? I see you slouching back. It's all puff your chest out. You're in the cotton pick and big 10, bro. You're going to have plenty of opportunities. Those Rutgers. Well, yeah, but Rutgers isn't a real football team. All right. You know how I'm in the first game. If you guys win seven eight games in a row in the big 10, you're going to end up in the CFP. Are you going to get as fancy of a number associated next to you because you lost Oklahoma State? Probably not. But instead of getting a five seed, you're going to end up getting a 10 seed. You're still in.

18:28You're still in the big 10. You're fine. Unlike our homey Jake here, they've got to win 37 games in the 12 game schedule to get it. We moved up four spots after beating Arizona. BYU's in a pretty good spot. You mean, since it was, let me get this straight, Jake, just so I've got it all squared away. After falling six spots for beating an FCS school by 56 points, you then went back up four for beating one of the top four teams in the big 12 going into the year by 11. We fell one, actually. It's just you dropped out of a tie from 14 to 15. Then you vault up to right. There you go. BYU's not going on the door to the top 10 boys. And this is the second highest start for a season in terms of the eight people. If you will, you've ever had last time they were this high in a preseason pole 85 after they won the 1984 national championship. So BYU's only keep handling their business. They're going to be just fine. But going back to the original point here to what Cody's saying. Oregon, yeah, they got plenty of time to recover here. The nice part is it. Cody was on our big 12 squad wearing a paper bag last week boys.

19:29And he said sad sex, Stovall on his name. He was there. And then they went out and and quite frankly, dominated towards that guy's team dominated a team that has, I don't know at least 10 NFL players. That was their first win over a power four in more than two years. But boy, was that amazing. That's that on the broadcast. It was like they were just trying to take my stomach out and just burn, burn, beat the day like out of it. They're welcome, though, because they did. When they lose the toss and then they come back and do that. I mean, my time is top. Yeah, that was amazing. We got it right where we want them. I'm quite literally. Yes, you had Oregon right where you wanted them because Holy smokes. Cody Spencer, I gotta ask you as this. So Drew Messmaker that play he leaps into the end zone. I apply you just call it the play. Hey, the microcosm of that play. Remember who's the organ player that knocked himself out cold Spencer car Williams the fourth.

20:30Yeah, that was the microcosm of that game. He goes flying and trying to make a play. Nox himself out cold while Drew Messmaker lands in the end zone as the hero. Isn't that the microcosm of this game? No, because there was actual effort displayed from the Oregon player on that play and the rest of the game. That was tentative. The best. Spencer, you'd have a kicker kick it out of bounds twice. So there is that. That was pretty bad. That was pretty. You know, I think it wasn't the organ MVP in that game. Drew Messmaker. It's darn right. Yeah, well, that's the point that Dan landing made in his post game pressure. He's like, I mean, we're the defense basically get 14 points. The defense still stunk and we still got outgained by 300 yards. 250 whatever it was. That was not a close organ made a couple of great plays because they have an incredibly talented roster and some talented Devin Jackson might be the fastest linebacker. Yeah, literally all of college football. Like that pick, sick.

21:31If you go look at where he caught the ball off the deflection, it's crazy that that resulted in a touchdown. But that's what happens when you have that much talent on the roster. But Cody, remind me, where you want a second or third string offensive tackle? Well, we rotate the second and third string and we lost our starting guards. We lost our starting left tackle, our starting right guard. And then we had three guys kind of rotating three different spots. Okay. So all that to say, the fact that Oklahoma State ran for over 220 yards and Drew Mestemaker was sacked zero times is literally mind boggling. Did Tosh the point take all the talent to the bay with them? Well, he clearly took the best safety in the room because Kingston Lopa had three flipping interceptions against Syracuse, including the game clincher. I would have forging that. I do think we have to be on the watch was Will Stein and Tosh the

22:31boy, the strength of that team. And now that's gone. Well, I mean, my biggest question for organ coming into the year was did Dan Lanting make the right hire offensive and defensive coordinator? And through two games, the answer is no. Now, as you guys point it out, there's still time. There's 10 games left. The season, but Cody, I just want to ask you something. You know, you checked out a good amount of the Oregon boys in game. You watched all the Oregon Oklahoma State game. What in that delusional brain of yours makes you think Oregon is winning seven or eight games in a row? Because you're loaded with more NFL talent than everybody. They were on Saturday. I tried a few teams and okay, let's be realistic. I didn't plan on, you know, praising Oregon in this ballgame. But if you have your tight end, that is another first round draft pick. Tell me that doesn't change the complexity of what you can do offensively. Like, I think you guys saw that you need that security blanket that just so happens to be

23:32a first round NFL talent to help Dante Moore, whenever plays do break down. And without that security valve, that that mattered in this ballgame. And he's not going to be out all that long. I don't think. No, it's probably a problem for you. Everybody back in here's deal. We needed a wake up call, right? We got that against Tulsa. And if you guys end up responding the same way that we responded, you should be fine. Don't get upset at the fact that our left tackle from Portland State, though. Don't let that freak you out, man. Hey, you guys are going to play the Oregon this week. Yeah, they do. I don't know what you and I got to say something. Because, and listen, you guys know or you should know, I love Spencer McLaughlin. I want to say that right here off the bat. And I have nothing personal against Dan Laning. But I got to say, after four years of hearing from Oregon fans and bots and trolls on social media

24:32about how terrible Mario Cristobal is, how great Dan Laning is. After four years of that, and I saved four years worth of receipts, by the way, if you follow me on social media. After four years of that, yesterday was cathartic, right? And I try to be a really positive guy who doesn't take victory laps when other teams lose. Unless it's Florida, Florida State. You usually not teams that aren't rivals, but felt a little good to see that happen at Dan Laning yesterday. I'm just going to put that out there. I can't, no, I can't fall you one single bit. I get into modes of being very petty. And I do say, dude, I've heard it all. I haven't said it is loudly as some Oregon fans out there, but like I've heard it from duck fans. Man, so glad we have Laning instead of Mario Cristobal. Well, one of them was a touchdown from a national championship. And the other one just lost to Oklahoma State. Yeah. Yeah. In year of.

I was like, okay, maybe it was the injury. He's going to, I bought into all that note. This looked like injury John Matier, pointing against Michigan. He was overthrowing open wide receivers and they lost that game in large part because of his inaccuracy. And honestly, the kid got shook. As a senior in college, he got shook by the big house. And it's not a surprise if you think about it. Then Arbuckle, air raid guy, Lincoln Riley, air raid guy. What are those guys having common? They're all Charmin Ultra soft. There is no running game with the air raid. So why are you trying to force the running game? They should have went full air raid if they wanted a chance because they weren't running the ball with any effectiveness because they can't because they're Charmin extra soft. And that's not going to go away.

30:39There's an opportunity for them to be very good. You saw them make the playoffs a year ago. It is not by putting a square peg in their round hole. And they went up to the big house and just got back beat by a team that got beat by Western Michigan. And yes, I said it. Yeah, it's absolutely true. When my top 25 comes out, Western Michigan will still be ahead of Michigan. Oklahoma probably not going to end up being ranked. Jake, do you want to try and follow that eloquent rant? Or do you want to, do you want to pass? Well, let me just say this. As a guy who worked in sports radio in Salt Lake City and covered Kyle Whittingham for a long, long time. What happened in that game is the consument Kyle Whittingham game, just enough on offense. And then as you mentioned, Steven, playing a team that's soft, S-O-F-T, they were soft. Speaking of Oklahoma, they beat them up on defense. Jay Hill was BYU's defensive coordinator last three years. I have watched that up close and personal. Jay took them to the wood shed with that defensive game plan.

31:40And that's a Kyle Whittingham special I've ever seen. That was a really, really, an impressive win for Michigan. And a much needed win to calm the rest of the fears that the Mason-Bluet ad about their new head coach. Yeah, Donna, that was not what I expected, just because it looked like Michigan after week one had too many things to clean up and fix. And then, is the most college football outcome you could possibly imagine that you basically lose in every way, but the official scorebook to Western Michigan. And then you beat Oklahoma, who was in the playoffs last year. I, hmm, man, I tell you. Yeah, I'm embarrassed on Oklahoma's behalf. And it's like, I guess if you just, if you zoom out and you didn't follow week one, you could say, okay, going into the big house and losing a Michigan, there's no shame in that. But I mean, everything Steven said about being sharm and soft. And for Oklahoma to put up less than 300 yards and total offense in that game, for a mature to be so inaccurate.

32:41And to throw a game clenching interception like he did, it's just such a bad look. And like, Kudos to Michigan, I don't want to take everything. I know we're all still really mad about that extra second week one. But I'm going to try to look past that and say Kudos to Michigan for bouncing back against what I thought was a really good football team. I don't really feel that way anymore about Oklahoma. I don't know. I mean, the eventables to me, you know, the R-buckle thing, it seemed like it was going to work out, especially when R-buckle gets his guy, because he coached John Matier before. So it seemed like a match made in heaven, but we're certainly not in heaven right now with that. Okay, and let me just, let me add one thing. Guys, when R-buckle was on the mark, when a lot of people were chasing him, Utah fans, you can go ask any of the Utah fans on social media. They had an option essentially at that point to grab R-buckle and Matier from Washington state. And they all wanted him. And now how does it look in retrospect? Not as good, Cody, are you all broken up that you're in state brethren had a let down game?

33:43I can see the sadness. That's right. You're washing over your face. You kind of almost took the words out of my mouth. It's like, this is like the lottery moment for me. I get to talk about my cowboys, take it down the ducks, and then I get to get the list all of you, poo poo on OU, and call them Charmin's off. This is not bad, but I will say I've a little bit of pushback, pushback for Steven here. If the air raid doesn't have a running game, so many of these go tell kale bockins, he needs to switch positions, because he looks like he runs the ball pretty darn effectively for being in the air raid. I just want to throw that out there, defend my dude number 24. They don't run a true air raid. That was the North Texas system's not quite the same thing. It's more running, shoot than air raid. You know what? I like that. I like that. I like that almost as much as I like Oregon coming to Boone Pick and Stadium. I didn't like that quite as much. Otsin was better. That was more fun to watch. Let's wrap by answering this question.

34:44This is an interesting thought from one of you out there. Who are the latest coaches who may be heading to buy out island? Greg Siono, Den Mullen, Fran Brown, G.J. Kinney, Brent Key. I think Brent Key is way too early. Fran Brown, no. Dan Mullen also know Siono. I'm sure. I'm sure. Sion. Well, hold on. Do people forget it's not called buy out island. It's called Mike Norvell Island. Because it's in Oregon, that real estate. Well, guys, if G.J. Kinney doesn't get an opportunity soon, he's going to miss the boat, right? It feels like G.J. has had a couple night seasons. We should have capitalized on a big jump. It's a little bit of an happen. It's a little bit of a Texas state. It feels like if he's the longer he stays at Texas state, and it's not a knot. I mean, I'm glad to see San Marcos going crazy. But the longer he stays there, the less likelihood he's going to have of matriculating up the board and my personal opinion. So I've all those names that need to do some.

35:46It's probably G.J. I mean, G.J. is interesting just because Texas state has been a great program for a long time. So you can get away with very little. And I think still have some faith from the administration. Eventually, they'll want to level up, but they're new in the pack 12. I think there'll be leeway there. Don, you're point about Mike Norville Island is very accurate. But I also have a... Abo. Abo. Yeah, that's the name that I want to just throw in there because man, the season could go off the rails pretty quickly here. Build the statue and then send Dave O'on his way. Just saying, hey, man, it's probably the way to go. I think Brent Key's way too early. And yeah, I mean, Mike Norville's got to be nice. Yeah, and they still, despite Syracuse being Syracuse, there still is a lot of love for Fran Brown up there. Yeah, and there should be. I think he's a pretty good... I just... They played a tight game. They were sloppy and cow capitalized.

36:46I think Syracuse will make a bowl game this year. Or get close to it. Their schedule is really, really hard. But we'll wrap this week's Lockdown College Football Live.
