We'll talk about the opportunity that the Raiders have ahead of them heading into week two, heading into this game versus chargers at so far stadium, what they could prove to themselves, what they could prove to Raider Nation and what they could prove to the outside world and outside media. We'll talk about that in segment number two. Here's segment number one news and notes of the day. So on Tuesday, the Raiders weren't working out of the facility. As a matter of fact, we'll be back at the facility today.

3:02We'll talk to Heycoast Clint Cubiac this morning, get an injury report, you know, how's Brock Bowers doing, how's Darryl Porter doing, you know, thoughts on the upcoming game. Because again, turning the page from the victory over the dolphins. That was cool. That was great. That was a nice first step. And now it's on the week two and the L.A. Chargers. And that's where all the focus will be. But on Tuesday, the Raiders brought in a handful of players to work them out. Now, this doesn't mean that they're looking to sign a guy. It just means that case emergency break glass, they want to know what these guys have left in the tank, what they, or if they're young guys that haven't done anything, what they, what their athleticism is looking like, how healthy they are, you know, how they could fit in what they're trying to do, trying to get to know these guys just a little bit. So on Tuesday's a lot of times you'll see these workouts. And on Tuesday, the Raiders had three guys come in. First of all, the fifth attack, a lot of University of Texas, Cole Brevard. He has no career stats, right? He wasn't selected in the 2026 NFL draft. He signed with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent. And, as a matter of fact, signed a three year contract on August 30th, 2026, but he was

4:06weighed as part of the final roster cuts and then resigned to the practice squad, but was released two days later. So he was a guy that the Raiders brought in for a workout on Tuesday. Also guard Joshua Gray out of Oregon State. He's the guy that went undrafted in 2025. He's been a part of the Falcons, the Panthers and the Vikings practice squad, but it was pretty cool. As I was doing a little bit of research on him, found a play going back to Oregon State when he was playing there and part of that offense, aligned protecting DJU where he was a tackle eligible and they ran a play where he was protecting, protecting, protecting, let go, almost like a screenplay. And then leaked out in DJU, hit him with a touchdown pass. So that was kind of cool, but Joshua Gray guard out of Oregon State again, has been part of the Falcons Panthers and Vikings practice squad. Also was working out for the Raiders on Tuesday. And then Marshall Lang tied in out of Northwestern. Also a guy that went undrafted in 2025. Been a part of the Seahawks and Patriots. They did that twice, right? Seahawks and Patriots and Seahawks and Patriots. That was all 2025, part of their practice squad.

5:06And then in 2026, part of the Vikings practice squad. And again, another guy with no stats. Those are just some names to think of just in and kind of keeping the in the back of your memory just in case the Raiders decide that they need to make a move at some point. Cole Brevard, the defense attack on a Texas, Joshua Gray, the guard out of Oregon State and Marshall Lang tied in out of Northwestern. Also on the other side of things when it comes to the chargers, they added a wide receiver. They have questions about Lad Mokonky. We'll get an injury report today. So we'll find out about the injuries when we talk to Clint Kubiak. And then obviously they go through practice and we'll get the injury report, but we'll get it for the Raiders and the chargers. And we'll do that Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. And then of course we'll get the inactive about 90 minutes before kickoff comes Sunday. But the chargers have questions about Lad Mokonky and his availability. Obviously, this is coming off the embarrassing loss to the Cardinals where they were nine point favorites and really just did not look good at all. Week one, don't want to overreact one way or the other. But there's a lot of people questioning who the chargers are going to be. Is this Mike McDaniel offense and Jim Harbaw?

6:09Are they going to be able to mesh and actually work together? Well, I've been questioning that for a while. And obviously it didn't come to fruition at least in week one. We'll see what happens in week two. But the chargers did sign veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdez-Skantling. So Gordon Jordan Schultz and a fellow insider said a new speedy weapon for Justin Herbert and offense coordinator Mike McDaniel. So to me, when you see that kind of addition, it probably leans towards Lad Mokonky not being available. Or if he is, he's definitely going to be compromised. And so they wanted to make sure that they had insurance. So they brought in the veteran wide receiver again, Marquez Valdez-Skantling. Now part of the chargers organization. And we'll see if the Raiders end up facing him coming up on Sunday. But there's a lot of questions around the chargers. There's even more questions around the Raiders. Are they really the team that we saw on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins? Or was that more a product of the Miami Dolphins being a bad NFL team? We'll actually talk about the opportunity that the Raiders have moving forward. We'll do that coming up. That's segment number two of today's Lockdown Raiders podcast.

Want to get into the conversation about the Raiders and the opportunity that they have moving forward coming up in a week number two versus the charges and so far stadium. So cut segment number one a little bit short just because I wanted to have a little bit more time to spin here. I didn't want to rush through this segment. And so look, the Raiders had a very convincing victory over the Miami Dolphins. Raiders nations fired up. I was fired up by the way that they did it. Very complimentary football, all three phases of the game. I thought was really good when it comes to the offense, the defense, the special teams. We talked about the points that the Raiders put up 27 of them. Talked about the job that the defense did, especially against the run, right?

10:17Limiting in a guy like Devon H and to 30 something yards on the ground. Well, the equalis was a non factor creating turnovers, making plays in the special team game. And even when they had a special team breakdown because of their effort, they were able to save it and deal with the university and overcome it. And, matter of fact, not give up any points, right? Raiders nation was fired up. Legion stadium was Jack to the gills. I mean, the sound was incredible. Clint Kubiak, the coaching staff. They all did a really good job. And of course, the head coach got his first win. So we all talked about that. We've been talking about it for a couple of days. People have been excited about it, telling me that, you know, here we go. This is the start of a new chapter, which I do believe it truly is. But this is opportunity that the Raiders have to prove that point to themselves, to Raider nation, to the coaching staff, to ownership, to the national media, to anyone outside of the Raiders bubble for anyone that's looking at saying, yeah, but it was just the dolphins. Yeah, but the Raiders aren't very, or the dolphins aren't very good.

11:21So they were supposed to beat them. Look, they were only fair by three points without Brock Bowers. And look, that's another question that we'll have. And we'll find out today, you know, the health of Brock Bowers, where he's at at this stage of the game. Will he be available for week two? You know, I'm the kind of guy that doesn't believe that he will be available, but I'm also not a doctor. So we'll wait and see and hear from the ones that are smarter than me. The ones that are in the building, the ones that are talking to the trainers, Alex Guerrero and company. And all right, this is where he's at at this stage of the game. I know Brock's working to get back, but again, we'll get the first injury report today after practice and see if he's able to go. And we'll also ask, hey, Coach Clint Kubiak that when we meet with them this morning. But the Raiders in the past have one big games, you know, last year, just for an example, they went in one week one and on the road in New England against the Patriots. I remember, you know, Max Crosby running off the field and the social media team hit him, you know, he had to shout out something to the camera. He's like, we back, we back. Everyone's feeling good about that, right? Pete Carroll had talked about all winning 10 games.

12:21So for the players point of view, they're like, man, we just went on the road to New England and got a W. Yeah, man, we're feeling really good about ourselves. And then they only went on to win two more games the rest of the way, right? They went on a very long losing streak. It was not pretty, right? We all remember what it was in 2025. So again, fast forward to this year. They win week one at home versus dolphins. And they did in convincing fashion. Now they cannot go to Sofie Stadium, a place where they haven't had very much success. Last time they won was 2020, right? They have not won since then. They need to go there and reward the fans that are going to be there. Because Rater Nation always shows up and shows out in LA, right? I mean, it's the Raiders home away from home, right? We talk about the Raiders and how well they travel. Well, most of the fans that show up to that one don't even have to travel. They're right there in LA, right? With the with the built in fan base in LA, just like there's a built in fan base in the Bay. And they're trying to build in a fan base here in Las Vegas. But we know Rater Nation is worldwide, but they're going to be representing. There's no doubt about it coming up on Sunday at Sofie Stadium. The Raiders have an opportunity to show that that wasn't just the Miami dolphins,

13:24why they won on Sunday, right? They have an opportunity to show that they can win a game and then follow it up with another really good performance. You know that they could play fundamentally sound football again. They could play complimentary football again, right? You know, they're not going to turn around and shoot themselves in the foot. Again, most people believe that the Raiders only was so successful because they're opponent and it's not necessarily them. But what they need to do is establish a culture. They need to establish that they're going to be a winning organization. We spent all summer long talking about how many wins we think they're going to get. Six, seven wins. Some people said 10. Some said they're going to be the playoff team. Some say they're only going to win three or four because of the strength of their schedule. Whatever the case may be, it doesn't matter what any of us say, what any of us estimated from what their paper, the paper looks like. It's all about what they do on the field. But if this team is really truly building and jelling and that defense is really going to be the defense that it was and this offense is going to be able to have long sustained drives that result in seven, not three.

14:25You know, this is an opportunity to prove it as the competition ratchets it up. And oh, by the way, they're going up against the Chargers team who's mad, who's angry, who's embarrassed. They're at home, even though we know that the Charger fans are not going to overpower the Raider fans on Sunday. We know that. That's a given. But they've got a lot to prove. Now they're being questioned. Is this Jim Harball, Mike, Medaniel, is this duo going to work? Is Justin Herbert that guy like that noise is starting to get louder and louder? And I know they don't care about, you know, someone like me, the noise from me doesn't matter. But there's noise around this Chargers team after the way that they lost to the Arizona Cardinals who many don't believe are going to win very many games and are probably going to be picking in the top five. All right. So now the Raiders have an opportunity to go improve that. Yes, you know, everything that we did all off season, all the hard work, you know, Kurt Cousin said and and and Quitty Pay said, this is one of the hardest training camps they ever had. And that they really put in a lot of work when I talked to Jeremy Chin, one on one in the locker room on Sunday, you know, he said,

15:26all the work that we put in during the off season and during training camp and during the preseason, you know, that's why we were able to, you know, when adversity hit, we were able to to battle it off and get it back on the on the tracks. Right. That this truly is a turnaround for this organization. We have to go out and prove it. It's one thing to talk about it. And I do believe every one of those players in the locker room that said to us, yeah, it was a great win. We feel good about it. But we know that there were still a lot of room to grow and believe that they're going to put their best foot forward to do that. Go on a winning streak. Was the last time the Raiders went on a winning streak? I'm glad you asked. It's 2024. They won back to back games and we think 16 and 17 against the Jaguars in the Saints. They beat the Jaguars 19 to 14 that beat the Saints 25 10. 16 and 17 of 2024 was the last time the Raiders won two games of the row. Think about that. The last time they won two games in a row. How many games in a row did the Patriots win last year after the Raiders beat them in week one?

16:26Right. The Patriots only went on to lose two more games the rest of the way on their way to the Super Bowl. Not saying the Raiders was supposed to do that. Not saying they're only going to lose three games or four games this season, not at all, but you can't stack back to back wins. You can't get a divisional win. Right. They've won one game in the division to last two seasons. And that was week 18. Last year against the Kansas. They achieved when Kansas City had no Patrick with homes had had half their roster was on IR and not there and probably had no interest in even being at a leading stadium. That was the only divisional game that the Raiders have won the last two seasons. It's a divisional opponent. It's the chargers. It's a team that you embarrassed back in 2023 with the Antonio Pierce as your interim head coach, right, where they put 63 points on them. Got Brandon Staley fired. You know, not that I cheer for guys to get fired on a roof for guys to get fired jobs are too hard to get. But you put 63 points that you scored multiple defensive touchdowns. Just absolutely dominate them start to finish.

17:27This is not saying that you're going to dominate the charges this week. You're going to face adversity. They're going to come out swinging. Right. I was at the Ryan Garcia Connor Bend fight on Saturday night before before the Rader game. Yeah. Ryan Garcia came out and gave Ben a lot of a leather to the mouth and Ben wasn't able to deal with the adversity. He wasn't able to handle and whether the storm. There will be a storm that the Raiders face on Sunday. That's a guarantee. The dolphins were one thing, but the charges are another thing. They have weapons. They have a quarterback that's really good. And the thing about it is we all talk about the charges and how they want to butter their bread is by way of the ground game. They threw the ball like 70% of the time. Last week against the Cardinals and maybe that was the problem. Maybe that's why they played so poorly. And maybe that's one of the big adjustments that they'll have this week against the Raiders. But the Raiders have to be prepared for everything. And it's one thing to go out and say, Oh, the Raiders were competitive. They look good. Go out and win. Right. The motto is just win, baby. Not just be good.

18:28Not just compete, right? And look, I get it. They're not going to win every game. They're not going to, you know, go out there and take every team down. I totally get that. But to do something that they haven't done in quite a while, go on a winning streak, win two in a row, show that what you did against the dolphins is not exclusive to the dolphins. It's this is the standard of Raider football. That's what it's about. It shouldn't be about the opponent. It should be about you. And it's funny. And I know that high school is totally different to college. And college is totally different than the NFL. But there was a high school football coach that I used to cover in when I was in Texas at Temple High School. Scott Stewart was his name. Matter of fact, Quentin Johnston was his star, why receiver when when he was a coach and I was, I was covering that team at that time. And that's why me and Quentin Johnston are really good friends to this, to this day. But he's always telling me when I interview him every week, he said, Q is never about the guys on the other side of field. It's always about the guys in our locker room. There's a certain standard that we have to play with at all times, no matter who it is that we're playing.

19:32And as long as we do that, we're giving ourselves a chance. We can't and the Raiders have done that, right? The Raiders have played up to their competition. They played down to their competition. You can't do that. That's how you go and win one and then lose one. That's how you go and get a victory in Baltimore and then take a L at home and get the Carolina Panthers. Raiders have been there, done that. That's how you get embarrassed when you know that you should get a dub, right? You have to have a certain standard that you maintain. This is going to be greater football, regardless of we're playing against the dolphins, regardless of we're playing against the chargers, the chiefs. That's what coach Kubiak is telling his players. That's what the front office, when they went and put this roster together, that's what they were looking for. Guys that were willing to play up to the standard, which is this is how we're playing, regardless who we're playing. It's never about the opponent. It's always about you. And honestly, games in my opinion are one in loss during the week. Games are one in loss during the practice week. How do you prepare?

20:33It's just like a show. I do really good shows when I really when I do really good preparation. If all of a sudden I decide, Hey, I'm too good for them. I'm just going to go wing it. Winging it never works. Right? And that's why I don't wing it. That's why I don't wing it. I always tell everybody the hardest part of a radio show is the work leading up to the radio show. The hardest part of the podcast is the work leading up to the podcast. That's how it always is. It's the work that you put in when everyone's not watching, when everyone's not listening, when everyone's not paying attention, that's the work that matters. And that's what the Raiders and that's what Clint Kubiak and company are trying to establish. That has to be the standard. And they have an opportunity to show that that is truly the standard with this team on Sunday, versus chargers. Now you know, we'll have the crossover edition coming up tomorrow. We'll actually get a little bit more detail on the team that the Raiders will be facing. At so five stadium, but the standard should be the standard and Raider football needs to be the standard. 23:36There's a plan and as happy as I am at day one, I also know that we have a way to go. We need development. We need we depth. We need really good team to get some quality players. But we're often good start and I'm happy about that. Appreciate what you do for the for the greater nation. Low die Raider. Thanks so much for the call. Appreciate you. And yes, there's no doubt that the Raiders still need plenty of work. They need to add more talent. Need to learn how to win consistently. Right? Some of us talking about assignment number two, create that winning culture, but you have to take it one day at a time. One game at a time, one week at a time with everything they're doing. One offseason at a time, right? That's how you continue to build. That's how you continue to stack. And that's what they need to do, but you're absolutely right. That's they're they're not where they need to be. They're definitely not a finished product. Every one of them will tell you that. Make the charges one dimensional. They are very one dimensional against the Cardinals. That's a great point. And of course, as he's done many times for many different, you know, opponents, little Mac is wrecked the game. Don't let him wreck the game against the Raiders like he did before. He's got his hall of fame helmet up there. I mean, he is such a genuine down to earth dude. JT is up there. Obviously, he's been with the organization forever. Big link is around there. Kirk Morrison is always up there. Jason Horowitz up there all the time. And plus they always have Raider Legends come up and be a part of the show. Jim Plunkett, as you mentioned, right? He was there so many times you'll see other guys like Freddie, Belitnikov, Tim Brown, right? Marcus Allen. There's so many different Raider Legends that will that'll be there. Shane Leckler, you know, just Janet Kowski will show up. They always have someone there. So I always encourage people. If you get to the game, come in early, go to the torch, hang out for a while. Course like landing. It's plenty of space and opportunity. And you might just meet someone that's one of your fair Raiders that you, uh, you know, had an opportunity to grow up watching. ESPN power rankings has the Raiders dropping a spot. I get it. It was Miami, but this game really wasn't close. The Raiders aren't going to steal some games from teams that aren't keeping track. Mark my words. Never needed validation through titled ESPN rankings that have had mediocre teams like the charges higher than they should be, but anyone could see we're better than 28. I guess we'll have to prove it. Uh, love what you do. Q sub zero Raider out. Look, a couple of things here. One, it was, it was week one. I don't worry about power rankings at that stage of the game. Uh, I saw a couple of people hitting me up. It was like, how are power out of the Raiders? Drop a spot in the power rankings when they, you know, they won by 14 points. Again, it's week one. I'm not worried about it, but just like I was talking about the segment number two, more people are giving credit to the fact that yeah, they beat up on the dolphins, but it was a dolphins and they're not good. So that's why they have an opportunity to go out and prove that they can beat the chargers

29:44and say, okay, beat the dolphins week one. You didn't respect that. All right. Now let's go beat, beat the chargers. That's, I mean, again, the way that you get respect, just win, baby. Go out and win games. It's just that simple. You want to respect. You want your crowd to have your back? You want, you know, you want everything that goes with it, you have to win games. Bottom line. That's what you have to do. We'll close out with a call from Restless Raider. He's calling to ask about this game coming up versus the chargers. Here he is. Restless Raider. Okay. What's up, you reckless Raider here? And I got a question for you. Looking ahead to the charger game, do you think this is a must win game for us? I know it's crazy to say that in week two. But in terms of the development of our team, I think it's crucial that we get this one. Because we've talked all off season about how we can't be the get right game anymore. And to me, the chargers are probably looking at this as a get right game.

30:45Because they are reeling after getting punched in the mouth by the cardinals. And the schedule for them after our game looks brutal. So I feel like they're going to come out kippy and look into clean things up. So to really turn the page for us this week, I think we've got to be able to say, nah, you ain't going to write the ship against us anymore. We're here to be competitive. You're going to have to earn it. So maybe it's not a must win, but we must be sharp for four quarters. It was a great win against Miami. But we've got to stay consistent. We got to be careful to not look past anyone anymore after a great win. And then fall asleep at the wheel of the next game. So I think this is a really important game for us to establish who we are. 31:49But as I talked about segment number two, I think it's a huge opportunity. It's a prove it game. Prove it to yourself. Prove it to the nation. Prove it to the front office. You know, prove, prove to the people that dropped the Raiders one spot in the rankings, even though it was only week one after beating the dolphins, because it was only the dolphins. Okay. Well, go out of the team that has a quarterback that everyone thinks is a lead, even though he has no playoff wins. I don't know. Just throwing it out there, right? So no, not a must win, obviously. But it would be a nice win and it would be a good prove it moment. And that you can go on the road to so far and win a place that you haven't had a lot of success. There's a lot of positives to going in there and getting the dub. But most importantly to those dudes in the locker room, go get that dub. Prove to yourself that what you're doing, the way you're going about it, the hard work you're putting in is well worth it and you're making it pay off. And you're going to do that by getting a dub.
