One day we had an opportunity to catch up with head coach Clint Kubiak over at the Raiders facility. And before we ever asked him any questions, he walked in immediately and gave us a quick injury update. Darryan Porter, who's dealing with the foot injury, he left the game late. He has a kind of masses came in for him.

3:04Brock Bowers dealing with the knee injury. We know he missed week one. They are both according to head coach Clint Kubiak, according to them day to day. So again, the foot and the knee injury day to day. We'll see how that progresses throughout the course of the week. Like I said, Darryan Porter, he has a kind of masses came in for him immediately. The dolphins tried to test them went right after him on the very first play and honestly thought he has a kind of masses going to make the interception. He got the P.B.U. looked really looked good. He did have a penalty called on him later on in the game, but for the handful of snaps that he was in there, sliding in for Darryan Porter. He did look comfortable, looked like he was confident. And if he does have to go and Darryan Porter can't go this week, I feel pretty good. That's a Raiders will be in good hands. Brock Bowers, another conversation. There was a report that came out on game day on Sunday from Adam Schefters said, after undergoing a meniscus trim on Tuesday, the Raiders believe there's a realistic chance Brock Bowers will miss only one game and return for week two at the Los Angeles Chargers for sources. Team will see how he's feeling this week, but a potential return next week is within the realm of possibility.

4:04Now, the reason why that's interesting to me, especially with Clint Kubiak saying he's day to day, even though I feel like he's probably going to miss this this game game number two against the Chargers in LA coming up on Sunday, I feel like it just because I don't think they're going to try to rush him back, even though obviously they're going to need all hands on deck to start ratcheting up the competition and trusting believe even though the Chargers lost to the Cardinals and it was probably the worst loss of the opening weekend of the NFL action. There's still going to be a tough out and the Raiders struggle at Sofie Stadium as you know. But that's intriguing to me because that report from Schefter is not the report from the player side of things as he said, the team will see how he's feeling this week, right? They believe there's a realistic chance. So now he's talking about from a team's point of view where before as he went on the Pat McAfee show on ESPN, he was talking about from the player side of things like the player feels like he's going to be back sooner rather than later.

5:04His agent feels like he's going to be back sooner rather later. He specified the team in that tweet that he put out on Sunday. So again, that doesn't mean that he's going to go. Like I said, I think that if he's close, you know, they'll probably err on the side of caution and wait to bring him back maybe a week three or maybe even week four when they return home to the play the Kansas chiefs who got the victory over the Denver Broncos on Monday night football. You know, but again, it's all about pain tolerance, how a guy heals, how he gets better. And look, we saw Brock Bar was leaving the locker room on Sunday following the game. So he isn't a facility. Michael Mayor told us that in the locker room that he was there at the facility. He was working on getting back. Clint Kubiak is told us as well. He's been working on getting back. He's working working really hard to get back. So all those positives. Now that again, it does not mean that he's going to be playing on Sunday, but it does sound like it's trending in the right direction. So we'll see. We'll see how it all plays out. But that was really the biggest highlights from what Clint Kubiak had to say on Monday.

6:05So really was about the injuries to Darryan Porter and Brock Bar was both guys. You know, you want to see out there sooner rather than later. And Darryan Porter, like, making a mistake about it. I know it's only year two for him. And really he's still learning how to play the cornerback position. But on Sunday, he looked good. He looked apart. He did his job. The communication was there. He looked like a NFL cornerback. What the difference a year makes, right? When he was still trying to figure it out, you know, when he was trying to just get the game to slow down a little bit, it looks like over the course of what he was able to do in the off season, what they were able to do in training camp. You can see him out there making plays during training camp. And it looked like at least for game one, first of Miami dolphins. And again, I guess you got to always put that asterisk out there because it was Miami. And we know that they're not a very good team. We know that they're rebuilding. He did his job. So hopefully DP is able to come back sooner rather than later as well. I did want to go ahead and kind of put a bow on this game. And what I thought was a great way to do it was hearing from the guys that were on the TV broadcast.

7:06Chris Myers and Mark Slarrath actually had a stink on my radio show on Friday. He was over at the Raiders facility. Him and Chris Myers there both at the Raider facility, observing practice on Friday. Really good conversation with him, you know, and just what he thought from what Clint Kubeyak was doing from what the Raiders team kind of looked like. And you know, we were comparing and contrasting the Raiders and the dolphins. Well, following the game, this is what both Chris Myers and Mark Slarrath had to say about the Raiders. Mark had impressive win all the way around. What impressed you most about the Raiders and Raider fans that they were building something right here, it's going to last. Yeah, I believe in building a team from the inside out and they focused on this offensive line. They got pulled another bag. They got Perfverd from San Francisco, Linda Mon from Baltimore. They dominated up front. They didn't give up pressures. They ran the ball when you control the game from the inside out. You control the offensive line and the line of scrimmage. You're going to win a lot of football games. So the captain, Genji, took over the suck at half and a couple of touchdown catches Rand for over a hundred yards.

8:06I guess there wasn't any question. I know you have Fernando Mendoza the top overall pick waiting in the wings but Kirk Cousins the veteran to start him to move things along three touchdowns. Also had a couple of exceptions. But I guess the question for Raider fans is how he will keep it rolling. But when do we see him, Dosa? Well, Kirk has this contingent. But I will, you're not going to see Mendoza. He's going to sit on the sideline. I know that he gives, I think, Raider fans some pause. But it's the best possible thing. As long as Kirk Cousins continues to play well and gives them an opportunity to win, we were told by Clint Kubiak in this organization he's going to retain this job. The best players are going to win and I love that about where they are as a franchise right now. Let the competition rise to the top and the best players get to play. Yeah, should make Mendoza only that much better when he does get on the feet. So Mark Slareth right there, enjoy the way that the Raiders approached this game, approached the off season, the job that John Spiteken company they were able to do with acquiring talent, bringing guys in to improve the team and build it from the inside out.

9:09And we've been talking about that for years on this show and many other shows, right? Championship teams are built from the inside out, not saying the Raiders are a championship team, but they're trying to build this thing the right way. Make sure that that offense align is where it needs to be and obviously the defense align as well. We'll talk about the defense coming up in segment number two. I really quick though, I do want to play some more sound from unsportsman like on ESPN radio. And this is immediate reaction Monday morning after seeing what the Raiders were able to do against Miami and also how the chargers fell to the Cardinals is funny how all of a sudden the conversation is, well, maybe the Raiders aren't going to be the last place team in the AFC West. Check it out. I think the story for the Raiders, Ashen Gentie, you look like the guy right over 100 yards rushing six catches 45 yards to touch downs. Both these teams are going to stink this year. Raiders are going to stink a lot less than the Dolphins though. Yeah, but I mean, here's the thing. Are the Raiders going to finish in the last place in the AFC West? Are they? Not going to be the chiefs, small stop it.

10:10Well, it's right. You're mean. With as bad as the chargers look out for the AFC. There's no way. They're going to be worth the chiefs ain't going to be worse than the chargers. I can promise you that. I can't believe they lost to the Cardinals. But going back to the Ashen Gentie of it all, Kubi X been telling you I want to use him the way San Francisco uses Christian McCaffrey. I want him to be a centerpiece in a lot of ways of this offense. We saw him do it in Seattle. He's been preaching this. That's why I said I expect a big time break out season from Ashen Gentie off to a great start yesterday. I'll be it against a Dolphins team that's less than desirable. So quick back story. Michelle Smallman thought that Kansas City was going to be the worst team in the AFC West because even before Patrick Mahomes went down last year, he wasn't looking good and the team wasn't looking good. And she wasn't wrong about that. But seeing what they were able to do on Monday night and putting up 31 points and having a really strong run game with Kenneth Walker, a really strong run game. Don't think that they're going to be coming in last. I'm not saying they're going to go all back to first all of a sudden, but I don't think they'll be coming in last.

11:10But there is a conversation to be had about those chargers who did not look good. Obviously, the Raiders play them and we'll focus in our attention on the chargers starting on tomorrow's show. You know, because coming up in week two, that'll be the Raiders next opponent there at so five stadium. But I just wanted to pass that along because I thought that was some interesting stound and funny how all of a sudden the narrative changes after one week. Normally that's what happens with the fans, right? We always call it an overreaction Monday, but all of a sudden to hear, you know, the national media and ones that are looking like, okay, well, Ashton Gentee is that guy. We told you he was that guy. All right. Ashton Gentee really is a top back in the league. We told you he's a top back in the league. Oh, he can't catch the ball the back feeling, get touchdowns. Well, we told you he could do that. Now all of a sudden it's like, hey, Ashton Gentee is him. I'm okay with it. I'm here for it. Just wanted to make sure to pass that along. But let's talk about riding for the brand and playing with shocking effort and has a lot to do with the defense. We'll do that coming up segment number two today's locked on Raiders podcast. Second number two of today's locked on Raiders podcast. Want to talk about Ryan for the brand and playing with shocking effort. That is the motto that Clint Kubiak has for this team. And that's the motto that he gave to this team from the minute that he arrived as the head coach of the Silver and Black as a matter of fact, going all the way back to the Scott and Combine. I asked him, what, you know, what is, what is a Raider? What do you want the vision to be? You know, what is the, you know, what is the motto for this team? And he said, I knew this question was going to come up, but I'd rather tell my team before I tell you guys, I don't want to, I don't want my team to read about it. I want them to hear it from me. So from the, the jump he had, has, has mind focused on what he wanted and what he wanted

15:18was for the team to ride for the brand and play with shocking effort. So I find this to be pretty interesting when it comes to where the defenses are in the league right now. After one week and I had coach her med words on my ESPN show Game Night on Monday night. And he was disgusted as a defensive minded head coach, a defensive minded coach and period in general, a guy who played defense in the national football league. He was disgusted with, there's bad football being played. You right, there was a game where there was a thousand total yards given up. And that was the Bears and Panthers game where the Bears went for five something. And the, the, the Panthers went for four, four 80 something, right? And that was like a 59 to 37 game. It's just absolutely ridiculous. But his point was the offenses in the league are all ahead of the defense. And so I got this note on Sunday night from NFL communications. And they always give me a, a seven for Sunday, you know, a bunch of different little stats. Sometimes it's about players. Sometimes it's just about facts that are, you know, in the NFL that stood out from that

16:21week. So what they said on Sunday night and this is while the Cowboys and Giants game was going on, they said, with two games remaining week one NFL teams that combined a score, 702 points, which is averaging 50.1 per game on pace for one of the highest scoring kickoff weekends in NFL history. The record for the most points scored in week one is 791 in 2012. So on Sunday night football, when that got completed, remember, it was at 702, heading into the Giants of Cowboys game. Well, between those two, they scored 48 points. And then on Monday night football between the, the chiefs and the Broncos, 41 points were scored. So if you're doing the math, that's 791. Tyne, the most points scored in a week one, going back to 2012. So why am I bringing that up on the Lockdown Riders podcast? Well, because out of those 791 points that were scored week one, the Raiders only gave up 13. Now, I know you're going to tell me, Q, they only played the dolphins. I get it. You play who's on your schedule, but they only gave up 13.

17:24That's it. So I got to give them a lot of credit. The Raiders defense finished with five total sex, seven tackles for loss. It's the third time the Raiders have had five plus sex without allowing a sec in a season opener along with 1968, where it was five and then 1969 was actually eight. Max Crosby made his return first time he had played football since December of 2025, generated six pressures against the dolphins, his most in a game. Since week 13 of the 2025 season finished the game with one and a half sex. Quiddy pay new to the Raiders, right? Signed him as a free agent, debuting with two sacks and four quarterback hits. He led the team in his Raiders appearance and first, first start, trained stucs. First Raiders rookie with a defensive interception in his NFL debut since Van McElroy did it in 1982. Nicobie Dean, another new addition to the team tied for the team lead with six tackles and added a sec. Two tackles for loss in a quarterback hit. The Raiders defense held the dolphins to two of 10 on third down, which is 20% and 0 and 1 on fourth down.

18:25And oh, by the way, in the red zone, only one of three for 33% and you want to talk about riding for the brand and playing with shocking effort, which I just rolled out all the defensive effort that they put out there. And look, it's one week there. They wasn't perfect. There's plenty of times where, you know, they could have done something better. There was times when, you know, the communication wasn't there between trading stucs and Eric Stokes. There was a big play down the sideline early in the game that was made. It was just a miscommunication. I think Eric Stokes that trade was going to be over the top and he wasn't again. These are going to be growing pains a lot of new players on this, especially on the defense side of the ball. So they're still trying to work things out. They still gave up a couple plays that were, you know, second and long and third and long. I thought that let that drive right before the half when there was only one minute in the half after they gone down and scored. Then they let Miami get into field goal range and kick a field goal. I thought that that was bad. And especially when they came out of the locker room and Kurt Cuzz has to have an interception immediately. And Miami turned that into a touchdown.

19:27So I thought, man, that was a terrible way to end the first half and a terrible way to start the second half. But again, they were able to rebound. But this is, this is playing with shocking effort. Cody White chasing down Jalen right on a kick return. And they had that big kick return that went for 79 yards. Normally when a guy is running free like Jalen right was running for the dolphins. Most of the time, all right, that's that's church, right? He's going to beat to the house. He's going to score a touchdown. Cody White, who won hasn't been on the team very long. The Raiders claimed him from the Seattle Seahawks. Two was on the practice squad, right? And then they elevated him on Saturday, a Saturday elevation where you only get three of those, all season long. You can owe it less so they can elevate Cody White three times total before they have to put him on the act of roster. So they have two more opportunities. I'll tell you what a guy like that that plays with that kind of effort, which is what Clint Coobeck told us on Monday is expected. That's a standard. That's something that I could appreciate. That's being the standard that lets every player in the locker room know.

20:28That's what we expect to see from you. And if we don't see that from you, we'll see that from Cody White or we'll see that from insert Dylan Lobby or insert whoever wants to play and ride for the brand and play with shocking effort. That culture, that expectation, that is being established right now. I can appreciate that. So I said on my radio show of Cody White, he's making plays like that. He's going to be on the act of roster sooner rather than later because they're going to want to have him elevated from the practice squad more than two more times throughout the course of the year. But on that play, he catches up to to right. He gets them out of bounds. So then Miami has to go and take the field and the defense does their job. And the Kobe Dean, I mentioned that sack that he had. He had some great closing speed on middle league. Willis got him for a 10 yard sack. The dolphins go out there to attempt to feel going to miss. So what looked like a give up, what looked like an easy touchdown. And then, okay, well, they'll get three points out of it at least turn into nothing. That's all shocking effort right there.

21:28That's just want to, right? That's just, hey, we're going to do everything that we can. So in a week where the entire league gave up nothing but points, 791 total points. And the offenses were clearly ahead of the defense, even the Texans, who I actually think has an opportunity to go to the Super Bowl with that defense that they have. And we saw the Texans defense up close to personal. We went to Houston for that, you know, the joint practice and preseason game number two, they have an outstanding defense. They even gave up 38 points to Buffalo. And I know Buffalo is a really good team. Raiders will see the bills sooner rather than later at a legion stadium coming up in the month of October. It's going to be a brutal, you know, stretch, but even they gave up a bunch of points. The Raiders again, only to give it up to Miami. I get it. We'll see what it looks like this week against the chargers. You know, obviously we'll continue to make our assessment. But for Robbie Lenders debut, I think you got to give him a lot of credit. There's a reason why Jeremy Chen told me that everybody in the, in the, on the Raiders defense got a game ball.

22:32I was actually going to play the one on one conversation, but I don't think I have enough time. Are he's going to say, no, don't do it. Don't do it. So, you know, but he did, you know, he said that the defense, he felt really good that after they went through the preseason, they knew the way that they trained, the way that they practiced, what they were going to be able to do and still have the understanding. And every player that we talked to in the locker room had the same understanding. We did good, but we still have a long ways to go. There's a lot of work that we still need to do. We're not satisfied with this, which means that the standard that Clint Kubiak is preaching, they're listening to, they're buying into, they're trying to go out there and make sure that they, you know, make the coaches proud and do what they are expected to do from everyone. From the, the defensive line to the linebackers to the back in, even talking to Max Krosby's like, you know, we were able to get home to the quarterback because the guys in the secondary did their job, right? They, they, they covered, they covered up the, the YRC was long enough where they got coverage tax.

23:33It hasn't been very often that we talk about the Raiders and coverage tax. You know, it works both ways. The defensive line does their job, makes the secondary better and the secondary does their job, makes the defensive line better. And then you see linebackers that have clearly been upgraded from what they were last year, going sideline to sideline. Again, only given up 13 points and only given to Von H and an opportunity, what 11 carriers for 36 yards. That's nothing, absolutely nothing in a week where offense just dominated start to finish in every single game. Again, I know Miami's not a very good team. I have to keep reiterating that because someone's going to let that get lost in the sauce and think that I'm talking about the Raiders defense as they 85 bears. I'm not doing that. But they, they played who they played. They played who was on their schedule and they did a really good job, especially of that threat that was Devon H and he didn't get loose at all. Malik Willis really didn't get loose either. He did get their one touchdown scramble, but that was it. The Raiders did their job. They rode for the brand and they played with shocking effort.

And for the deep as a game ball, I would probably give it for the entire defense. But I think Quinty pay was a guy that stepped out for me. So Quinty pay and Ash and Genki get the ball. We thought he wasn't going to play. And there he is just leading the team in rushing, leading the team in receiving ball in out. So yeah, the one game ball for Gen T makes all the sense of the world, the defense in general, you know, just like I talked about segment number two, definitely, you know, and like I said, Jeremy Chen told me that every player on the defense got a game ball for the job that they did. Gen T and pay, you know, those are the ones for you. That makes sense. Quinty pay was a guy that people questioned. Remember, what's Quinty pay going to bring to the table? I don't really know how he fits with his defense. Well, they do. That's a good thing is the coaching staff knows exactly how these guys, you know, they, they, they fit into the defense. And as far as cousins goes, I think he showed you who he is. He's not a guy that's going to stretch the field. And I know some people are saying that all his interceptions were on the wide receivers. I don't see it that way. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe, you know, maybe he will be able to stretch the field.

29:42I think he's going to live in the short and intermediate range. And I think that's okay. This is a ball control offense. It's a timing offense. He's going to get the ball of his hands quickly and let his playmakers do the job. I think that that's as simple as it's going to be. My big question is, how do the players deal with success? You know, we talk about how do you deal with adversity? How do you deal with success? Remember, they went to Baltimore not too long ago, picked up a victory, came back to the Elija Stadium, take on the Carolina Panthers who had won a game and took a L and it was embarrassing. You know, so now this week they go to so far. They're taking on the chargers. Chargers coming off and embarrassing loss to the Cardinals. Chargers are going to want to get some get back and here come the Raiders. So how are the Raiders going to deal with that? And adversity of that team, the chargers, you know, wanting to make sure that they draw even on the season. And obviously, you know, the Raiders coming off a big win and, you know, feeling good about themselves, but you don't want to feel too good about yourself. You know, I made the observation yesterday that he, you know, if he keeps throwing this way, you know, the future might begin sooner than he thinks. But I sort of something sort of came to mind, Q and I didn't know what you think. Maybe Cudiack and maybe Cudiack and the other offensive minds are looking at this. You know, we made a living back in the day, back to back when Rich Ganon was our quarterback. We made a living out of those really quick drops and hitting those five to ten yard hitches, those in routes, those slants, you know, something that Jerry Rice and Tim Brown were really famous for. And, you know, we hit, you know, five ten, you know, five yards, ten yards, 15 yards. And we run with Garner, run with Wheatley, we'd get down to the goal line and then boom. Crockett, you know, was the easy six points. You know, Q, I don't, I can see that happening with Kurt Cousins just because

33:48maybe that keeps the pressure off of Kurt trying to throw the long ball. And I, I could see us doing that, you know, and I, and I'm thinking maybe, you know, maybe, maybe, maybe Cudiack is thinking about that. But you all in all what a great Sunday. I mean, we haven't seen that in a while, you know, and, and I'm just hoping that we keep, he keeps up. I, I was laughing at that charger thing and that like the charger game, because I have NFLs. 34:49And for me to watch the practices that I did during training camp and see 25 to 30 minutes spent on special teams. I thought was a great attention to detail. And that's why that they for the most part did really well. Of course, they had that big kick return. Miami did, but you see that they still the Raiders didn't give up on that play. And that tells me a lot as well as far as Kirk cousins again, short to intermediate range, allow playmakers to do that, make place, right? Ball control offense. It's all you got to think. So what you're thinking about the Raiders back in the day is pretty much correct. Every once in a while, I'm sure you'll take a shot. But for the most part, it's going to be short and intermediate as far as I'm concerned. One more text we got from a Raider fan in San Diego. Hey, Q, hope you and the family are doing well. I have to say I was confused at the end of the first half this week. The Raiders had 12 first down in the half. That's usually an entire game. My observation from the game against Miami's that this team is going to be well coached. Well prepared for their opponents. The offensive line won't be blocking three guys on one while two blitzers are running free and attacking on the quarterback. I'm not saying playoffs, but I'm saying more than seven wins.

35:50As always, Raider Nation for life signed Raider fans San Diego. It's amazing what a good coach can do for a team. Raider fan appreciate the text. I'll say that it's good coach and could be act. I think it's good coaches with the coaching staff. I really do. I think the staff he put together is a really good staff. And oh, by the way, coaches coach players play really good talent.
