Product Update: AI-Driven Onboarding and Workflow Automation in Semaphore

0:00Hey everyone, Pete here. Today I want to give you a quick update on what we've been building inside Semaphore, specifically around AI-driven workflow automation. As we've shared before, our direction for 2026 is clear. CICD remains the foundation, but we're extending it with AI-powered automation. The goal isn't to replace developers. It's to reduce toil while keeping you fully in control. So what does that look like in practice? We're building an AI assistant directly into Semaphore, first focus onboarding. Instead of starting with documentation and writing yaml from scratch, you describe what you want, where your code lives, how it should be built, how it should be tested, how you want it deployed. The assistant translates that into a working Semaphore project and pipeline. You connect your repository, provide a high-level description, and land on a generated workflow. From there, you can review it, edit it, refine it, just like you normally would. We're not hiding CICD, we're removing unnecessary friction at the start.

1:04Beyond onboarding, the assistant can help you understand and manage workflows. You can ask what happened in your last job, why something failed, ask it to rerun a workflow, validate a configuration, suggest improvements. It keeps session context, so follow-ups like, run it again, or improve this, make sense in conversation. This moves Semaphore beyond reacting to commits. It becomes more of a control plane for developer intent. Another important piece is structured knowledge. Over time, the assistant can retain contextual knowledge at the project or organization level. That means recommendations can get more consistent and more aligned with how your team works. High-quality software isn't heroic effort. It's consistent hygiene applied over time. Automation helps make that sustainable. And importantly, everything runs inside Semaphore workflows. Nothing happens implicitly, nothing runs on your laptop. You trigger it, you review it, you decide what gets applied.

2:04That's core to how we think about AI. Assistive, transparent, developer controlled. We've also created a short video demo so you can see this in action. You'll find it on our blog. Right now, our immediate milestone is delivering a smooth, repository to working workflow onboarding experience. From there, we'll expand deeper workflow refinement and automation, especially around testing and quality improvements. This is just the beginning of what we're calling agent-driven Semaphore. CICD stays at the core. AI helps automate the work you don't want to do. You stay in control. We'll share more soon.
