We had a trade earlier to take the over on this game and would have hit it blue and wide open. But Xavier Newsom could not catch a wide open. Tutti in the end zone, but that's not the here no there Auburn is victorious 43 to eight in the inaugural season opener home opener. And you're in here stadium. I'm joined by none other than Dustin of the up tempo pod. It's a late one late night. Got off to a lay start because of the weather delay, but Auburn emerges victorious in this game. Dustin, your thoughts on what you saw in week two. Oh, definitely looked a lot better than next week, right?

3:02There was a lot of things that we wanted to see offensively. I know a lot of people talked all week about how much would you really be able to gain from an Auburn blow out of this? And I always kind of said it would be the eye test. There were certain things that I wanted to see, bottom brown. There are certain things that I wanted to see from this Auburn coaching staff, particularly the in game management that I thought was so poor last week. A week ago, we talked about the frustration of leading points on the board at the end of the first half. Perfect execution at the end of the first half there. I was really impressed by that. You know, being able to get those three points, obviously Alex McPherson making a statement saying, I'm back and healthy. I'm good to go from wherever you need me from, because that thing could have been good from 60C. He nailed that thing. So all in all, I think it was really confident. I guess it's got to be a performance that boosts the confidence of the offense. You run for over 300 yards. Only with the one turnover. Where the guy just put the helmet right on the ball, that's term our cops. First ever fumble in four years of playing football for Auburn. I just really didn't get one. It's a good play from the so in Mr. Fenery.

4:03You got it right where he's supposed to. So yeah, you had three guys go for over 80 yards like maps and rain the ball well. Some biggest, both of plays. Even on the one where there was a slight bobble there that we thought was the touch down in the end zone. An incredible throw. An environment several of those. So I think he kind of saw what you were expecting from him. And I guess if we were looking for any kind of negative, obviously the penalties a little bit too much of those. This is kind of one of those games though. Whenever I see 10 penalties for plus for both teams, it's kind of like a little bit of a ref show to me. And like they were a lot of, you know, some of those were legit. But I do think that they're especially in the second half. They got that got pretty tiki tacky browns first touchdown get caught off the board on a Phantom hold. So Auburn could have scored a lot more. Yeah. Yeah, like the Auburn easily could have put up 60 in this game. So all in all, man, really impressed with what I saw. And one thing that was like I was looking at. After you had a big emotional win in week one, and you knew you had Florida coming in the next week. Would this kind of have like that that lol that trap feel like you saw LSU they eventually pulled away.

5:07But they're up 10 to 7 and a half time versus La Tech, right? This Auburn team came right out from the jump and looked like they had the juice look like they had the energy. So I think that we saw everything that we needed to see and it feels like a little bit of a scare they were brown. But it feels like we got out healthy as well. So yeah, man, press what I saw in death. He looking forward to and charged up atmosphere next Saturday night. Before we get into a lot of your comments, guys, we're going to go through and just kind of read get your opinion. This is your reaction show. We're reacting, of course, but we definitely want to hear from you guys. Question Dustin. 343 yards on the ground. Is that equate to running the piss out of the football? Do you? Yeah, I think it's finally out. You left a lot of piss in the football last week, but there's none in there this week. So 100% man, that's what that's supposed to look like. And you got a lot of different guys going. So you got to feel good about that. Yeah, again, this is what I wanted to see. We saw a lot of it in the second half. It seems as though they really were trying to get the passing game going in the first half.

6:10Obviously you had a big enough of a lead. Once you got that first score in the beginning of the second half, Auburn really committed to wanting to run the football. And they did that. Omar Mapson let the way 15 carries 108 yards. Byron Brown, 13 carries. I'll be honest, I didn't want to I didn't want to see him with that many carries, but because of how he plays Dustin, I think this is kind of what's going to come with Byron Brown. Especially, especially some of these plays were not designed run plays because he was escaping pressure or escaping the pocket. But 13 carries on 88 yards. Jeremiah cop 12 carries on 85 yards. Bryson Washington got seven carries for 44 yards. He broke out a big run and had a good day. Take meadows. I mean, obviously you're going against like their second and 13 and Southern Miss, but he had burst. He got him a few yards towards the end. So it was it was good seeing him carry the ball Auburn ran effectively.

7:12My question to you and again, we'll we'll throw this to our chat to kind of see what their thoughts are in this game. Thoughts about the offensive line. Much was made of some of the issues up front last week and gets Baylor Auburn came out in this game and we saw some movement along the line. And then we saw that. Wilson's I hear came in and replaced Jacob Strandle left guard and seemed to have hell held on to that position the rest of the way. And Auburn actually ran the ball pretty well in this game, I would say. So your thoughts about what we saw up front with Wilson's I hear and has Auburn figured out some things. At least going in the Florida up front or are you still concerned? You know, I'm not going to take this Southern Miss game and wipe away everything that we saw in week one. And I'm also we talked all off season about what the concerns would be and online was the one that everybody had.

8:12The coach only asked for prayers for one unit and that was the offensive line. So there's probably reason for that. So I'm not ready to just say, okay, it's all over. We figured it out. But I'm obviously encouraged. I thought called best like miles better today than he was, you know, first Baylor last week. So and one thing that's really kind of telling to me is like they went to the they went to the different lineups early. You know, they they talked about before week one, how they wanted to rotate guys and when they put out that first depth part of the season. They had multiple guys lifted at listed at both guard spots. And then you get in that game last week and they didn't really rotate them like that. You know, was that because it was such a close game and they were scared to mix it up, whatever. But like this week, it seemed intentional. And we know that Zaire has worked it, you know, we know that he's a tackle. So I thought that was really interesting to see you know, to have him come in there and play guard. And it seemed like you played a good game. I'll be really, you know, you're watching the ball the first time. So I'll be really interested when I come back to the tomorrow or Monday and rewatch the game and try to pay more attention to what the lineups were and, you know, what the unit was.

9:17And just how much is which those guys up and which one performed the best. But look, they got like they got layer in there. Movements, I in there guard very interesting. K.O. Ellis. So look, really, really incurred. And like the encouraging thing to me is is that they were willing to try something different. You know, we've seen all my coaching staffs in the in the past be a little bit stubborn and just stick with something for five six seven games because they thought this was. This is what we see in practice. Now they came out there. It was very obvious like second or third drive in they start moving off its line been around. This was the plan and anytime that you run for over 300 yards. You did a good job. So I'll be really interested to see what that starting five is next week. Did they find some of the answers that they were looking for as a coaching staff. I think they did. I think there's all kinds of line took a step forward. So I'm not ready to come up here and say, hey, problem solved. But definitely a step in the right direction, which is all you can do with an opponent like this. And I think in a game like if you if you know better week, this was a great week for you to start finding some answers.

10:17Obviously this line has a lot of a lot of work to do. Dust them before they can really jail and be a formidable unit. But I do think you left this game with more answers than you had coming in. And so we'll just see what this coaching staff was able to do. One of the things that I will point out that was a bit disappointing in this game. 600 yards of total offense of the game. And then this is what Auburn just trying to run the clock out at the end. 31 first downs. 7 to 15 on third down penalties. Yeah. Penalties penalties penalties. Whether it's a hold on the exterior or a hold up front or just certain calls. Even on defense, there were there was some calls. There was just some some head scratchers. I do I would like to see Auburn clean up some of that going into conference play because again, 10 penalties. It's really going to hurt you in these tight games against SC opponents who are evenly matched with you or may even have more talent than you in some key spots.

11:23Auburn has to play a clean game. Your thoughts your thoughts on what you saw for the penalties and some of these some of the penalties were BS. One of some of those penalties took points off the board and they really were fanned up calls. But talk to me about the penalties and about some of the some of the things that you would like to see Auburn clean up going into conference play next week. I think I think the head ref definitely told his mom, hey, tune in. I'm going to be on TV tonight. You going to see me. He made it a point. He made it a point to let it be known that he was out there and he was doing his thing. So ref show at Lee County, Alabama tonight for sure. Now look, some of those were on Auburn. There were a couple of big plays there that like some of those holds were actual holds and they were unnecessary. Right. Like the ball carry was already way past that and you didn't need to do it. So, but all in all, you know, you're only two games in and you just sometimes you have games like this. Like one thing on that, I think I trust without a goal is just that he is definitely going to pound that this week and getting that fixed. And you know, he seemed very despite Auburn being up and controlled the game.

12:25He was very, very upset with some of those penalties and when they came, same thing with DJ Dirk and we know that he doesn't play that. So you still got a new team is still early on in the season. You know, again, when you like I always. The person that you can't argue the procedural penalties before the ball is stabbed. You got to get some of those cleaned up and like you see some of them when you do it on first or second down. Drive killers man. Like you saw a couple of Auburn drives just die before they ever got started because you commit those penalties and those are definitely frustrating. At the same time, anytime I see double digit penalties for both teams, I just kind of chalk it up like the rest were doing a little bit too much here. So definitely, definitely some things for Auburn to clean up for sure in terms of that. And it's probably. It probably is never a good thing that you commit that any penalties. But in a night that went pretty much everything else went well for you. I got something for you to kind of harp on this week and say, Hey, look, we've got to get this cleaned up because. Boy, that October slate right now we already knew what's going to be tough.

13:27It's looking, it's looking, it's looking really tough. So we really got a, it feels like a must win game next week, man, it really does. And you're going to have to play your absolute best. So if you go back and you look at these last two weeks, you leave week one saying, Hey, offense just didn't really move the ball. I got a lot to work on with that. Definitely got cleaned up a lot of operations and things like that look better this week. Let's see if they can do the same thing with the penalties. This cannot be a can't be a habit. And I don't think it will be under Alice Coalition. And he knows that you got a veteran team here. I've got to play a lot of football. I don't expect to see 10 penalties again next week. I think they'll clean that up. Yeah, indeed, indeed. Before we get to some of your comments, guys, again, we want to really push. Let's get to some of the comments guys of the American idiot says way too many pilties, but solid win overall. I agree. Again, I think it's been baby steps, right? I think Auburn did a good job of taking better care of the football this week. Right. Auburn was able to run the ball and be physical with Southern Miss in this game.

15:40Southern Miss had a lot of injuries. A lot of guys go down. And for Auburn to come out of this game on scale speaks to a lot of the physicality that we saw from Auburn. The QBs just took a beating in this game. So I was I was pleased with some of the things that had me concerned about this team really didn't rear its ugly head. It shouldn't have ridden his ugly head against a Southern Miss squad. So I was happy that we didn't see those things. But as you get throughout the season, I expect to see Auburn clean up more things that may show up in game. It's going to is difficult to play a perfect game. So you're going to see some things that has to be worked on. But I expect Auburn to play a much cleaner game. Be a lot more focused up against Florida when they come to town next week. Alright Cleveland Brown says Wardam Eagles solid win a lot of improvement, but a lot was still left on the field. We could clean up Gator Hay Week is here. Good to see Cleveland Brown and agree with that.

16:42Everyone wrote, says love the defense rollout passing very effective. Talk to me doesn't about just some of the things that you're seeing and bottom browns game in terms of his ability just to extend plays. I thought the play the past Jeremiah Coga was a beautiful play in which he was able to extend that play with his feet still looking down the field and just throw a dot down field. Man, just talk about what you saw, particularly in the passing game with bottom brown. Yeah, it made some really great throws. He was very solid on fourth down. I mean, the play that they ultimately overturn, that's probably his best throw the night. That's the best. I've seen Auburn quarterback making a long time. So you know, you know, you know, he's got that in his bag. I also think that he was more decisive tonight. Like there was this whole question this week. It's a little debate about this. This bottom brown looks slower than he did is South Florida. And he really tonight, he just kind of seemed like, all right, first or second read, if it's not there, we'll just take off and make something happen.

17:44And you just kind of saw his ability to find those first downs and get that extra yard is that was there while still protecting itself for the most part. So really encourage by that. Just be who you are, man. Just just be who you've been your entire college career. Don't try to overthink it. I think there was some of that probably combined with some rust last week. Protects the football zero turnovers and he really made some throws to wear. Listen, you know, the motion's a little wonky. Will he be a high draft pick at quarterback? No, but it's good enough to get it done in college and he can make all the throws and he threw some really, really good balls tonight on top of just kind of having the right mentality. And then, you know, obviously, again, being very successful down there on on fourth down was a big key for Auburn in this game. Even going forward in some situations where I was like, I don't know if you really got to do this here. If you don't get it, you could put them back in the game, but it was very calm, very poised in the pocket and make it things happen. So and then you have throw in the ball on the run like he was excellent tonight. So really, really good performance for him. And I think it's a definitely should boost his confidence going into the next week and the offense as a whole.

18:45Yeah, indeed, indeed. Michael Thompson here says defense second half was lights out. We have to clean up the penalties that will get us beat against Florida where we've definitely harped on the penalties and discussed them. We'll look to see how Auburn looks next week against tougher competition. And that's some of the things that concerns me about tougher competition. This was frustrating in these games. Loftin times, Dustin, those penalties come when you're playing against an evenly mashed opponent. Guys may get beat here. You're tempted to hold some of those things, right? And so to be a home game, you expect the cleaner game from a home team, right? Obviously, Southern Miss being in a hostile environment took them a while to settle in and stop the unforced errors themselves because there was a lot of false starts on their part. There were a lot of, you know, mean so when you're at home, you expect the benefit from that and win the turnover, not the turnover battle, but the penalty battle in that regard.

19:48So for Auburn to be close to them, obviously this coaching staff is going to harp on the details of what they're supposed to be doing. And let's see, let's see if those things improve. And it's worth noting Florida did not play a perfect game for not a year. They committed eight penalties first Campbell. So. All right. There you go. There you go. Eric Pearson says, definitely improvement, the score and stats looked like domination, but to me, it just didn't feel like domination. The penalties drops and other miscus made it feel less than or damn Eagle. Yeah, I mean, there were some moments in this game. I said this at half at the half with when I was with the green lane game, Dustin, is that. In this get right game, Auburn's offense is still trying to find itself to me. It just felt that way. Like they're not quite the well old machine that you expect Alice Golis offense to be. And I think that's okay.

20:48Given that you have a lot of new pieces, not a lot of new parts on offense. You hope with a lot of the guys coming over from USF that you you would be able to expedite. And maybe you have been able to speed the process up, but it still has to come together. And it seems to me as though this offense is still trying to find itself to me, especially given how again, you're talking about an offense that would have put more points on the board. There was points taken off because of calls, but it just seemed to me that against a week of opponent, like you had to go for it on fourth, a few times to convert and keep drives going. You're probably not doing that against the Florida. So you're just wondering as the weeks goes on and this offense begins to jail, you'll be really beginning to see the true identity of this team and their ability to really run the ball comfortably. Because you can see what happens when the run game goes, right? The play actually becomes deadly in this offense. And so I still feel like they're still trying to find themselves, Dustin.

21:50Yeah, I agree with you. And like, you know, the first driver of the Baylor game, I think we saw Max Johnson get three catches and you didn't see him tonight, what you did see Cohen, Neckles could have touched down on this birthday, I think. So like, wait a minute, break it. Happy birthday. That's pretty cool. And so you're point about the play action. Like you said, you set that up. You know, you made them have to honor that play action. The fake they are in the these wide open in the end zone. So I thought that the play calling was better. I thought like situationally, you know, they handled it a lot better tonight. And outside of that four down trig play, I still think that you probably left a lot in the bag. So I don't know if there's an all offensive staff yet has shown their full potential in terms of like play calling and what they got. I'll be interested to kind of see what that is next week. Good to see you guys like to Sean Spencer get involved. You know, Williams got some. Yeah, burn there at the end of the game. So I think that look, I think in the portal era, when you get a new coach and you get 40 plus new players. And sure a lot of them are coming over from with these guys from South Florida, but it's still a new environment.

22:51It's still a new conference is still a new group when you look at the offensive line that's ever played together before. So you got to think they're probably still figuring some things out, man. Yeah. I think they're still figuring some things out. What are we good at, right? And Alex goal is set all off season. He wants to leave this year established in the identity. That's probably not going to be done in two weeks. They're probably still trying to figure that out. But I think they got some answers tonight. And I would you know, look, I wouldn't be surprised if you saw a true freshman start at left guard. Next week for Auburn based off tonight's performance. That's that's initial raw reaction. I might feel different like going back on the rewatch, but it definitely seemed like Wilson's I airs a distinct tonight. And hey, man, I mean, if you if you got that answer in week two. That is going to help you out a lot, move them forward. Did not have it on my bingo card in terms of who's going to be starting a left guard. But again, I think you yes. And you know, it's not a it's not an indictment or knock against this coaching staff. You know, you can just I can just feel that this this is an Auburn team that they know what some things that do work for them.

23:54But they're still slowly trying to figure out, okay, we're really good at doing this. We're really good at doing that. And I and I you know, what I didn't want to see and we didn't see this. Dustin, you remember how it felt last year against South Alabama? Yes. You felt like you just won the game, but you learned nothing about your team. It's like, we got away with it. And it did look good. And you did have you still had no idea what the identity was. Yeah, like I was I was really wanting to avoid that type of feeling after after this game. I didn't want to feel the way I felt then tonight. And so I think for a coaching staff and I obviously golish is what I've learned to be true about him as meticulous as he is being in the details and focused on process. He is still pushing this team to really hone in and really take the coaching that they have. But I'm just glad that Auburn didn't look stagnant against a inferior opponent tonight.

25:06Despite the mistakes Auburn dominated this team early and often and really, really took their spirit early in this game. That's what you want to see. And again, as as the game goes on, you're beginning to try some things out. And I'm who does this coaching staff for trying. I mean, I just I'm curious if Alice golish got asked about I'm sure he did about Wilson's a year. I made them go to go with him where they trying that out and practice this week. Obviously it seems like they did like what like what what led to that because I seem out of left field, but it worked. So yeah, I again, this is a coaching staff that still tinkering with things and trying to figure out what works for them. So if you have any any concern about how hard the boys are going to be coach this week. It's just according to Mike G. Alice golish in the post game press commerce. I don't care what the score is. If the standard is that we're if if the standard is that, then we're in for a long season and made me want to throw up.

26:07We left so many points out there. It made me sick. So Alice goal is still not happy. So it's over 600 yards. One in a game 43 day and and kneeing the ball out in the red zone easily could have won up by more. And you know what I like about that is you know you you have coaches who have coach speak. They say the right things, but it's refreshing to have a coach who who actually sees what the fancy right. Like they don't gas like you and then the thinking like, oh, you know, it's it's yes, you you know this. So I'm sure they've had more points tonight. But again, that's where the humbling of oneself and taking the coaching and getting better. If they continue to and again, it sounds like this team responded very well. So to what happened since Baylor. And I expect that to continue to be more of the same in the next coming week. So I think that's what I'm going to say about that.

27:08I think that's what I'm going to say about that. Right here. We put me says goal is nail the post game very sloppy. You were to see what that post game and we will be releasing that post game eventually on our channel. So definitely go and check that out once that's released. Little Ricky says there's something about this team. I like better than the last four years. And then the last week like you want a close game, right. You did what you had to do to pull out a win. And this team has a lot of grid fighting them. I'm curious to see what that looks like against a Florida team. That's eager to get the to three and know as well. So it sets up to be a big match up next week against Florida. Your thoughts about that game. I mean, I mean, obviously you're going to have some thoughts for your show tomorrow. Get you to pub that in a little bit, but you're your thoughts about where Auburn is going in the Florida week. I think Florida or Auburn knows more about themselves and Florida does just based off of the nature of who Florida's played.

28:14Florida's yet to be tested and Auburn was tested week one. I think the thing that really gives me hope about tonight is that. Like when you, all right. So when you think back to horse in second year. And we all knew that Penn State game, that third game was going to be a, we're going to be the big swing game. The same way we feel about Florida is coming up week. That San Jose State game week two. We left San, we're probably in trouble. We're probably in trouble. We just out athlete is the San Jose State Spartans made a few plays because the guys that we had on the team were faster and stronger than them. But you didn't feel like the coaching staff put together a game plan that was better than what San Jose like. There were so many things where you're like, we could be in trouble. And then we all remember the nightmare that was that Saturday versus Penn State. So it's like in terms of week two game right before that big, that first really big test of the year week three. It's kind of got similarities to that season.

29:16And I was really impressed because you could have had like an emotional let down. This big win, everyone's kind of talking about, hey, Auburn hasn't won a one score game and forever. And you made this great play and you found a way to win and all this. I was, I was just having, I, because I don't know, but we don't know yet. Rolling in two games into outscore as era. I was really tuned in tonight to see what's the energy going to be like? What's the juice going to be like? And they came out fire and ready to go. They were fired up. They were flying around. They look like they were ready to play football. I think that it's going to be a toss up. It's going to be a pick them game. And in that scenario in a night game and during hair stadium, Auburn's already been down to the wire in a pick them game and found a way to come out like they've got that built into their DNA now because they just did it. So I think the tonight they got some answers in terms of what certain lineups should be. What they're like what they're better at. I think they boosted up their confidence a little bit. I think it's going to be a one possession ball game. I said that all summer. And if Auburn can find a way to win that game, then it is going to be monumental for this program.

30:20And I don't think that's overstating it based off the way the last five years have been. And if it's a close game in the fourth quarter and Auburn finds a way to pull that out, then you're really going to start to like it's going to you're going to feel like you've already kind of buried those close game demons that job of monster. It'll definitely feel different. So huge, huge matchup. Florida is going to be coming in off a two blowout wins over teams that they are just far superior than so they're probably going to like get punched in the mouth for the first time. A Saturday night in Jornier Stadium Auburn's already been punched in the mouth a little bit and they responded. So new young quarterback for Florida that hasn't played a lot of football like lead DJ Durkin and the boys get after him. And if you can establish like I think one thing that we kind of knew going to the season and I've definitely seen it in the first eight quarters this year of Auburn football is first down. First down doesn't even have to be game breaking, but you got to get like three or four if this offense gets behind the change if you get a bad penalty on first down and pushes it back to first and that's for any offense, but particularly this rhythm this up tempo offense.

31:28It's important that you get three or four yards on first down so you can kind of get into that rhythm get into that past pace that they want to do. And so if they're able to do that. First Florida get three or four yards and just live in you know at least get to second and six. Then I think that Auburn really will have a good chance in another another thing here. Auburn like I remember talking to new boy and the locker room after a day and I was because you know they had all those turnovers and a day. I was like hey is this a point of emphasis for the defense this year and he said absolutely we will create more turnovers this year. You know we did last year. Save the moment on that. So far so good on that if they do that next week like we'll look out Andre Jordan fall go.
