This is Corey with The Story, keeping Leicester in the know you're listening to Leicester news today. Leicestershire police are still digging at a house in Broad Avenue, Evington, as part of the murder probe into 60-year-old Gary Piatek, who's been. Missing since April 2024, six weeks into the operation that started on February 10th, they found no human remains so far. The search has ramped up with a mechanical digger active at the front for a full week now, all covered by large blue tents and privacy screens. Building safety experts have joined the team and they brought in one of Britain's top police dog handlers. There's even a no-fly zone for drones overhead. Local residents have seen the cord and shrink from covering five nearby homes down to just the main site, easing some disruption. Meanwhile, two men face murder charges in the case. Josef Ibrahim, 43, from Broad Avenue, and Olmed Farouzman, 25, from Bournemouth, with a trial set for later this year.
Six others are charged too, including two for helping an offender, some for grabbing Piatek's property, one for faking a tenancy agreement, and another denying links to over 140,000 pounds in cash. Police say they'll keep searching the property with no in date in sight, as they push forward to uncover what happened to Gary Piatek.
