Oscar Results: Who Got Snubbed And Who Won Big

0:00You You Is now all right and most importantly well, let's just pretend the show starts right now Hey guys good to have all of you guys here and we're not gonna run through the whole intro again Let's just get things started here, shall we

1:00And we're gonna start off with this Last night was of course the biggest night in the year of movies it is the Oscars the big thing and we're gonna go over all of the great stuff and the winners who got snubbed We're gonna go through the results a little bit later in the show Now every year when the Oscars happen it is tradition that I do a List if you will Of the ways they really need to improve the Oscars and it changes from year to year because every year they do tinker they improve some things They fix some things some other things go wrong whatever so the list kind of changes. I will say this before we get into other stuff I think they finally nailed the music stuff. I Used to hate hate the Oscars when they would literally take 15 minutes 20 minutes of screen time to have every single best song nominee get to do a full musical number

2:02It's like director is way more important than a single song from a movie yet the single songs from movies are getting 10 times a Screen time is direct and never made any sense to me. I thought last night they killed it killed it and I think so I can Alright, and I've heard people say it's not fair to the other song nominees that they didn't get to perform screw it Everybody knew it was either gonna be I lied to you or golden Nobody on the planet didn't know it was gonna be one of those two and nobody wanted to hear any of the other songs other than those two No disrespect to the other nominees at all, but the truth is the truth. So I was fine with that. So this is gonna be the first year Rob I can ever remember where my list of things that they need to do to improve the Oscars does not include the music the first time those Musical numbers the centers the way the camera man just got in there and was going from from moment to moment Yeah, that was such a cool performance and so was and a lot of them were actually the people from the movie I know it was I loved it. I just loved it. I loved that piece of music. I loved everybody playing it was awesome

3:03And I loved how people were coming out of the audience and I loved how after the song was kind of over they kept playing and they played out to the commercial It was awesome. It was great. So now though There are things they need to continue to fix and improve And I got five them here and then Rob I'm gonna go over see if you got any others and I'm sure you guys will have some ideas And some of these you'll agree with some of them won't you won't agree with and if you don't agree with some of them That's okay. You're allowed to be wrong. All right Let's get things started these are in no particular order. Okay, no particular order, but the one I'm gonna start off with is this The Oscars need to mandate theatrical first rule for Oscar eligibility Prioritized cinema over streaming I have said it before and I've yet to hear a valid argument against this For the history of the mediums Theactical movies are honored at the Oscars Television movies are honored at the Emmys

4:05If you want to be a television movie there's nothing wrong with that But recognize those where they belong to be recognized which is as a TV movie at the Emmys the Emmys celebrate TV movies made for TV movies That's what a Netflix original is it's a made for TV movie if it's not in theaters. It's a TV thing you need to prioritize I will make an exception even I rob will make an exception For documentary films and short films Because right or wrong fair run fair people generally don't run out to the theaters to go see documentaries or short films So I would make an exception for those personally they're also not played about you don't have access Yeah, there's not access to them for people so I would make an exception for documentaries and short features or short form But I think the Oscars need to mandate the theatrical films so that's that's the one thing but I felt that way forever I felt that way forever All right, the second thing Is and I railed on this last night during my livestream watching the Oscars

5:10Get tighter with the acceptance speech lengths and force the time limits and keep the show moving and you know this is more of a criticism Of the nominees than it is of the Oscars themselves Last night I got so frustrated because I'm watching it and there was a tie for best short live action Which I got to go into the math about how in a preferred ballot system how does the tie happen not the first time it's happened but hasn't happened in a while I've seen both of those movies what's that I had seen both of them was on Netflix the singers was it all the same? Which I loved and the other one swapping spit or whatever it's called two people swapping saliva A viewer of my a member of my channel Victoria has been a long time member sent it to me So I this is the first time ever watching the Oscars that I had seen and they both won and they both won And so you already have a challenge Because they get a double up the acceptance speech time so the first winners went up first

6:15Great acceptance speech walked off Then the second set of winners came up and They thought they were Adrian Brody Because they went on and on and on and started talking about a friend's baby and then went on and on And they tried to play the music they even dim the lights and all that kind of stuff and listen I get it I get it I get it I Had you know people writing into me saying well, you know John this is the biggest moment in their careers fuck that Everybody who won last night it was the most highest peak level of their careers and yet they all stayed within the timeframe Every nominee I know this for fact Every nominee is instructed hey if you happen to win Remember you've got this amount of time and they're also told Rob If there is a group of you that needs to go up to accept because there's two writers or three producers or whatever it is

7:18Pick one person to be your spokesperson They tell them this they are told this and I'm sorry But when you decide to go over You're a lot of time what you are saying is I'm more important than everybody else I'm more important than every other nominee I'm more important than every other winner and I'm more important than everybody using their time to watch this show tonight Both in the theater and at home If you praise me that's it I'm sure that's not what was going through their heads, but that's the effective results of it So like I remember it used to be like think oh what a shame that the Oscars played that person off No that person knew exactly how much time they had if they won Say but John is a big mom for them. Yeah, and so they got to go up on stage they got to be applauded by their peers and they got handed a golden statue That gives them bragging rights for the rest of their lives their children's lives and their grandchildren's lives Now say your thank yous and get off the stage and I really like the fact that Adrian Brody who I like a lot I love Adrian Brody

8:25But what he did last year was a disgrace Because that was the ultimate thing of that like I'm more important so everybody you're just gonna have to put up with this I love the fact that it was the elephant in the room and they made fun of the elephant in the room that Adrian Brody himself leaned into it I thought that was a great way to handle that at the end But yeah for all future nominees you're not more important than everybody else When they tell you how much time you have be ready to have that much time and then move on you're not more important than everybody So just shot because you know and I'm tired of hearing from people who say the same thing Rob Oscar should be shorter and don't cut off the acceptance speeches pick one You don't get to have both And you know somebody wrote to me today and I gotta say well did you notice That certain categories are applauded a little bit more time before they start playing the music Yes, they said well that isn't fair. I'm like yes, it is yes, it is fair

9:25Because 99 you can argue with us all you want it's a fact 99.9999% of the people watching at home don't care about animated short 99.999999% of the people watching home don't care about documentary short I'm not saying they shouldn't be recognized But acknowledge the fact that the Oscars are also for the billion people sitting in their homes around the world watching the show And they care more about hearing Michael B Jordan speech They care more about hearing Ryan Kugler speech They care more about hearing the winner of Best Director and the winner of Best Picture They care more about that. So yes a little bit more time is allotted to that You can cry all you want about fair it is what it is And you have to recognize that take your moment of glory and move on. So yes they have to get these things Button up and be more strict with them like honestly, I don't even think they should just play like you start to play the music to give a warning

10:25So somebody in case you goes you know robber all human you lose track of time Rob you get it I mean all of us I'm not trying to point out Rob but we all lose track of time And so you start fading in the music just as a hey you got to move off now But then if you don't stop after about 10 seconds that music's been playing Trapped or that's the next thing they need to do forget lights off you put a trap door And you still talking 10 seconds after the music's playing trap door see you next year anyway that's me I think that one's happening but Let's move on to the third thing shall we The third thing they got to do is reduce the overly long presenter bits and I There weren't many offenders of this this year but like I'm gonna point out and call out and center out the bridesmaids bit I love having all the bridesmaids come out that was great I could how long did they say it's been since that movie came out

11:3020 years I can't remember I just I just about choked though when they said how long it's been since bridesmaids still one of my favorite comedy is amazing But that just went on and on and on And I'm gonna mention something else about this bridesmaids bit in a minute Even I love seeing Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans come out but even that was kind of stretched out a bit I think they need to tighten these things up plus that bit wasn't funny which one the one between Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. Somebody should have written them something way better than that. Yes. Yes. I mean that cut look the presenter bit comes down to how well it's like I love Nicole Kidman and and you a McGregor. That was great. Yes. They're celebrating love. They're so short and punchy. Yeah, and which and you know Moulin Rouge is in my top 20. That was really well done and they were charming but but when they when Robert Downey It seemed like they were making it up. I mean it wasn't you got to say the only part of that whole thing was when Was a enchanting Tatum yelled from the audience. Yo, I'm gonna need that back. Well, yeah, that was funny but everything else is too drawn out. So between the bridesmaids things a lot

12:36You just got to tighten up these presenter bits We love seeing the presenters come out give them a funny line or two and then move on because that thing dragged out Especially the bridesmaids one man that just dragged out way too long All right That segues us into my fourth thing that they really need to do and that is this They need to tighten up the technical aspects of the show because there were so many technical glitches Like there was even one point where there was this really awkward thing where we had come back Cameras on Conan. Conan's like what are we doing? What's happening? Yeah, and then they had to wait wait and Agonizing second after second after second and then he handled it really well he goes are we back? One never knows and and that was a good way to handle but like that but going back to the bridesmaids bit There was an unfortunate irony about the fact that they were presenting one of the things they were presenting was best sound And while presenting best sound they had botched Melissa McCarthy's microphone Her microphone was literally digging into her neck and so you'd hear Maya Rudolph la la la la la la la

13:40And you hear another customer la la la la then you'd hear Melissa McCarthy And it was like come on guys like this is the Oscars you had a year to technically produce and be right Live shows man live shows don't we know it don't we know it but anyway they really need to Tighten up on the technical aspects The fifth thing and I never thought I would say this but I've I've heard arguments to it I listen to argues I used to argue against this but people have won me over I think they should expand best director to ten nominees bring that up Jonathan I think they need to expand best director category to ten nominees not anything else nothing else because The most responsible person for the quality of a movie is the director and it has always felt weird to have ten nominees for best picture But only five of those five nominees for best director

14:42Right and because like with cinema or with screenplay you get ten nominees Because they split it up over original screenplay adapted screen I get that now I am I will never Advocate that they should have ten nominees for best actor or best supporting actor or best editing or anything else like that But I think I have been one over I used to be against it but I've been one over now that I think yeah You know what ten best picture nominees ten best director nominees. It's just awkward. It's like that's the awesome one It does these ten movies were so great but the guys and women who directed him yeah only half of them were good I you know what I think only I think it's only happened twice I could be wrong about this correct me from wrong in the live chat. I think it's only happened twice Where the best picture winner did not have their director or director nominated for best director Argo with Ben Affleck and I think there was one other yeah so essentially anyway it's only happened twice in the 90 whatever years

15:44So I think they need to expand to ten nominees so again So are you saying that the ten best director of this ten best picture nominees should also just have their directors automatically I do I do again I've said I've been I've argued against that for a long time I think right now I've been one over a little bit just bring the best picture nominees back to five because they did that to get people to watch the show Well and this I mean it's always comes down to front runners I think what they I think the reason they did it It's the same reason why college football expanded the national champion playoff in that when it was only four There are such arguments about it shouldn't be this force should be that four and the thought process is if you expand out the number of entrance The argument about who should be in weekends right because in the top four you can make an arm for two or three of the other teams that absolutely should have been in it

16:48But once you expanded to twelve teams hey listen if you're team ranked number 13 14th or 15th You really have no business being in any way so don't worry about it and I think by because the last year The final year of the Oscars that had five best picture nominees you know this well was the year of the dark night And everybody knows that had there been six nominees dark night would have been nominated for best picture And I think they realize if we expanded to ten nominees it really gets rid of that argument because I don't recall a lot of arguments about films that absolutely one hundred percent Should have been nominated for best picture once they expanded it to ten because you lose the power that argument the more you have So I would not be against going back to five best picture nominees I've always been okay with the ten but I wouldn't be against going to five but I think if you're going to have ten

17:51I say have ten best director nominees to anyway Rob I listen off a bunch you have thoughts on any of them or do you have any you'd like to add to that Well, you know I some of them look I like hearing from the presenters if the material is great like like I told you earlier before we started the show I thought Anna went to her and and half away with that was the best bit that was so genius to bring her out I mean I think a lot of people didn't realize that's the woman that Meryl Streep is playing in devil wears Prada and it was just so funny and an half away I've seldom in my life seen a woman look as beautiful as an Half away looked in that dress and that choker she had on she's all class if the materials great I don't I love seeing stars come out and do bits if they're good I really do I bet there's something about seeing it it's adds to the mystique of it when the materials not well written or they're Winging it like Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. I'm like oh you guys are you're so much better together like that one thing

18:54Where there did you read the last red white and blue sprinkled Dina donut you know that one thing I did and then and then Elizabeth Olsen screams that's way funnier than what they did last night on the show and so I like it when it's when it's funny I think that you're absolutely right the presenter speeches you need to if you're going to win I would almost say every the Winter speeches I mean yeah the party the winter speeches if you're going to win you should have practiced that you Should understand you're going up and if you're going to have multiple people speak it should be like You know and and you gotta practice that or better yet have everybody's have everybody's acceptance speeches that First make them look at all five of the nominees or the They're look at their speeches first. So they know what they're going to get cuz then people ramblin they Get nervous and they don't know and it goes on and on but you know when you what I hear? Michael People Jordan Michael Be Jordan speak i' happy like all listen to what you're going to say so you like We want to hear from those actors, but even he didn't go like he didn't dry he was very concise

19:58No, he he remembered the lesson from Adrian Brodie of last year. No, he kept it succinct and it was classy It was so classy. Yeah, and so it's just a buckley speech by the way By those great, but but but that's I mean, I tend to agree with you that that the show and also I would The one thing my overall criticism of last night's show when we were talking about it It's not that Conan O'Brien wasn't a great host But his material was low key. It was kind of flat. I was a few highlights, but it was kind of flat I so I want the glamour and the glitz the Oscars are a glamour and glamorous and glitz event One thing I really did like about last night's presenters is overall people talked about what a collaborative medium it was That you needed the world to now make movies which I thought was really good And I think that that that that I really appreciated But every time I went to Conan O'Brien he kind of brought The glitz and glamour down because the the comedy bits some of them were funny like Brodie energy leveled down too. Yeah, and I'm not used to that from Conan O'Brien

21:02Right, me neither again. You know, I never thought we would ever get a sequel to Ready or Not A little horror film that looked completely Forgettable on its surface

24:06Just another one of 18 Unremarkable, easily forgettable horror movies that come out every year There's also several great horror movies, bunch of ones that we'll never talk about again Ready or not look like one of those And I was so surprised when I saw it About just how absolutely delightful the movie is Samara weaving, who everybody thought was Margot Robbie at the time Was fantastic Everybody in the movie was great and I loved it And I never thought it would get a sequel But here it comes Ready or not, here I come Ready or not too And man, the reviews are actually pretty damn good The trailers great The trailers great And the premise is good, they took the premise and they plused it And as of right now, you don't expect these types of critic numbers On these little mid-budget horror films Last, as of this recording, it's got an 83%, 83% And again, that means some people don't like it

25:06That's fine, let's go through some of them, shall we? Collider wrote, Ready or not too here I come, throws us back into this universe now That we know the scale and possibilities of it And goes absolutely wild with what can happen Daily dead, liked it They said radio silence is latest Is feisty, ferocious And back with a vengeance Sturring plenty of excitement Should they want to continue making Ready or not movies Until Grace has vanquished every last tyrannical wannabe Who Mr. Lee Bale exposes The next best picture wrote Yet radio science's direction is more elaborate Taking their years of work To come up with far more inventive set pieces Using way more gallons of blood And overall a sequel that is everything we could have wanted And possibly a little bit more Our friends over at Joe Blow liked it They said a gory good time If not quite up to the standards of the original Mom is geeky liked it They said delivers a relentless nightmare That cements Samara weaving and Catherine Newton I like her by the way As top tier horror duo

26:08Another stellar ensemble cast This sequel was worth the wait Screened not everybody liked it Screen international didn't like it They said more bloodying gratuitously violent Than the 2019 original That's good to me Ready or not too Here I come deliver short-term thrills In an emotionally hollow gory fest That's not a bad review I think for some people would mind that Oh I can Hollywood outsider right The end result understands exactly Why audiences fell in love with the original It's bigger, louder, naster, and packed with memorable performances Weaving and Newton are a natural duo This is how you do a horror sequel The folks over at screen ran didn't like it They said if ready or not Was a chess match Here I come is tic-tac-to Actually I like the analogy Anyway I'm gonna go see this movie on Thursday Me too I have I've come to really like Catherine Newton By the way she was in What's the name of the production company again I just read their name a few times Radio silence

27:08They also did Obviously the first Ready or not and they did And not Abigail Abigail Which was another surprise banger I loved Abigail And of course Catherine Newton was in that Teaming up with Samara Weaving Looks good I'm really excited to see this movie Rob Anyway you're hearing the reviews I'm surprised That again a mid-level Budget horror film getting this type of positive response from the critics What do you think about? Well I really loved ready or not You know I didn't catch up with it until later I didn't see in the theater but I wish I had And I do nothing about it When I watched it And it let's just say it had one of the more satisfying endings Of that kind of a movie I've seen in a long time I was like Wow I really love that And I am really excited for this sequel Especially seeing how they've upped the stakes Yeah And now it's who gets the world And I'm like okay I'm looking forward to seeing it on Thursday

28:09Anyway guys question is for you What do you think about the reviews coming out for ready or not too They're pleasantly good I'm looking forward to seeing it Hopefully I like it as much as the first one Whatever you guys think Jump down in the comments section below And let us know Your Thoughts All right guys With that down Let's move on to this So this past Friday night I got to go to Irvine, California To the regal iMacs there at the Spectrum Center And watch a movie I've been looking forward to all year Project Hail Mary As of right now It is holding a 94% critic rating Based on the strength of 141 reviews And it's been holding that 94 to 96 rating The whole time You know when I went into it My big question was as I'm sure a lot of book fans are

29:10Whenever they're going in to see a movie adaptation of their favorite book Is how unearthly they're going to get through all the stuff in this book And My first thoughts on Project Hail Mary was I thought They did some pretty creative things To advance the story quickly in what could have been a very very Long and arduous bunch of Dictactic Dialogue to get us through everything Exposition you know to do everything but they seem to do it very quickly very nimbly Some of my favorite scenes from the book were cut out and not included in the movie But I think ultimately it serviced it look bottom line for me is I absolutely loved Project Hail Mary I Even if you haven't read the book this line will mean nothing to you this line will mean nothing to you There's a line that isn't in the book And that single line is again you're not getting any context so no spoilers. This isn't going to spoil anything for you

30:11What I think is the funniest line that made me laugh the hardest so far in this young 2026 I hate mark Uh, I laughed so hard Again, you have no idea what I'm talking about that such an unconnected, but the line I hate mark Is to me the funniest line in the year I laughed so freaking hard at it um How they were able To get a physical rock puppet To become one of the most emotionally resonant beautifully done A Character that just makes you connect with it and get attached to it Rocky was the low key MVP of this movie. I was absolutely floored by it Uh, what they did with this puppet. It was just crazy absolutely nuts Ryan Gosling Was the perfect guy to cast as grace as dr. Grace he was the absolute perfect guy to do it I thought from the trailers. They got the perfect actors to play strat

31:13They absolutely got the perfect actress to play strat Um, I found the changes that they made benefited the movie. I do think there were one or two things cut out that they could have included But I and I will say this Because one of the first things my friend asked me was okay then Because they know how much I love the Martian What movies better the Martian or project tell Mary and I'll go you know what I think by a very small margin. I think I prefer the Martian By by a small margin. I I prefer the project tell Mary book over the Martian book But I think as far as the movie adaptation goes I lean a little bit more towards the Martian because it's absolutely spectacular But I again I absolutely love project tell Mary the one question I had though asking myself coming out of it was The way they move through the story all made sense to me because I've read the book And I wonder for somebody who had never read the book if they were going to be if they were able to keep up

32:17I simply don't know I'm gonna have to wait till I talk to some people who haven't seen we're having read the book But again, I loved it. It's it's a movie that just reminds me about why I love movies I walked out with a big smiling heart I just had a great time watching it. So Project tell Mary is a huge win for me. I loved it and I cannot wait to go back and watch at the end tonight and then watch it again on Thursday and to make Rob We went to dinner went over to theater to watch project tell Mary although you stuck around to watch a double feature We watched a undertone after right while and an I split so you and I have not talked about Talk about so your thoughts on project tell Mary As you know This is one again one of my most eagerly awaited films. I've been going on and on and on about it for a year And I want to say I thought it was Incredibly well-made. I thought it was beautiful like you. I thought the realization of Rocky was incredible I thought

33:18The character strat was beautifully realized. I love Ryan Gosling's performance everything that was in the movie Was incredible. I thought it was beautifully done. It's it's beautifully photographed That said You brought up the Martian especially I love the extended version of the Martian I think In the production of this movie They decided to lean a little too hard into the humor There's two things that might I've two criticisms of it and the humor is great I thought it was great because the book is hilarious the book is hilarious But what the book had that I think the movie is missing just a little bit Is first of all Rocky Is an equal To Ryland grace They are two sides it was a two of them. There's a and the way Rocky's presented. I don't know how they would have changed this But Rocky felt more like a sidekick To Ryland grace than he did an equal. I didn't I didn't get that well

34:22And I felt that they didn't spend enough to I mean they couldn't I don't know how they would have done this They they compressed them learning how to communicate and once it happened it there's the movies two hours and 36 minutes long I don't know how they would have done it. They did it beautifully I mean all the stuff was presented beautifully But I would have liked a little bit more awe and wonder With the two of them Getting to know one another and getting it just happened it was a little too easy for me And I missed a little bit of again the peril like you know Suddenly it's like well, I'm gonna go do an EVA in space, you know, we're gonna do this stuff in the book Be careful not to give away too much. No, but in the book you're like it was you're on the edge of your seat You know the book was like oh my god. I never felt once the movie got going I never felt that there was true peril I never felt that they might fail You know, I felt because it was such a nice movie. It was so Where whereas you know you get to in in space films like this when you're dealing with the cosmic infinitude

35:28You you're probably gonna die you're probably gonna fail. It's called project Hail Mary and I wanted a little bit more peril In the film the but that's these are minor quibbles because they chose to go a different way. This is me Wanting something and I can't I can't I can't criticize what's not there But I because the rest of the movie I do not cry three times I teared up like big big tears like because all of these moments everything I wanted Was there? You know and and I it was so like this shot this scene was so gorgeous But a lot of the interesting science too they had to like you said your question about do people who didn't read the book Did they get everything because the science was a little glossed over too all the interesting because I loved all that But how do you it the movie was still over two and a half hours long like how long and I was thinking of the fact that I hope

36:28I'm hoping that maybe Because I had read that article that said the original cut was three hours and like the Martian Which I think is almost a perfect movie the extended version of that movie I think is the better version kind of like the extended almost famous is I think the better version I would love to see this this movie 20 minutes longer I'd watch it. Yeah, I don't know what they would put in it But the way it was dude. It was such a crowd. It was it was such a beautiful film. I don't have any criticisms Of the final movie I have criticisms of what I Wanted to make you're saying that from the perspective of a of the fan of the book. Yeah, what you were wanting to see brought into the movie Like you said I couldn't tell because everything I wanted in it was there But you know, I wanted a little bit more science fiction and maybe a little less Humor there are two really big key things like I was surprised We didn't get again for those you don't know the story project. How Mary this will mean nothing to you

37:29So it's not a spoiler, but like there's an important thing in the book regarding nuclear Nuclear explosions and the Arctic You know what I'm talking about. Yeah, I really thought that would be part of the movie. Yeah, but they did not There's a big one of my favorite scenes in the book takes place in a courtroom with strat. Yeah, they did not put that in Um Again, we came out and I'm like wow, they didn't have this and they didn't have this but I'm like I what did I want a five hour movie? I'm willing to bet they shot those scenes maybe I think that they I think that they shot those scenes and because you could tell There's a lot of montage stuff in this not that that's a bad thing But they they obviously had a longer movie and I'm sure with the amount of money he's spent on it It was like anything else Amazon said we've got to make this less than three hours if you can't we can't release it through You know, this is why I have a rule for myself Rob and I broke it for project tell Mary because We saw the preview for it. It's in a kind of year ago. I'm like I can't resist I have a rule for myself

38:29That if there is a movie coming out based on the book I do not read the book until after I see the movie because I want to be able to judge the movie on its own. Yeah, it's clean And I really regret Having listened and read project tell Mary first I really regret it because my first thoughts coming out of the theater Were I mean, I walked out just glowing because I loved it. Me too, but my first thoughts were will they left? This sound they lived this and I wouldn't have been thinking those things. Have I not read the book? That's why I think they probably shot all that stuff You know and because the the Martian had that stuff in it and they did the extended version I don't know if they'll do an extended version this but that's not to say it doesn't need an extended version It's so affecting it's so Beautifully done and the acting is so great And everybody was so good in the movie Ryan Gosling was so good in the realization of Rocky is so good in it and You mentioned crying three times And did too like I kept on looking over at and during and she was like weeping and I don't know if a lot of people around me were crying

39:32Like I don't know if it's because I'm getting older But I just tend to like involuntarily cry more And but in this movie because I was tears of joy and how they I mean Lord Miller They knock this out of the park. I mean really they and it just I'm like I want to see their solo. No I know that was a bit of a disaster Yeah, yeah, but are you gonna go see it again? Hell yeah, see it through there. Okay So I just want I just want to get that because we focus mostly on the negative things But what did you feel about the film overall? I loved it. No, no, don't get me wrong. I love the experience I love but you know I'm more of like a literary sci-fi guy So and look I think that they made a good choice because they made this a populist Rousing great entertainment and I'll tell you something, you know The end they did stick that ending. I was like wonder. I'm like this movie. Oh the ending was fantastic I'm like let's talk about it. No, I mean, no they stay and they actually they plused it in my mind

40:37Yeah, I agree plus that ending and I was like that was and you know what that ending had All and wonder for me. Yeah, it did and that's what I just wanted a little bit more of that But when I got to the ending I was like wow good job fellows But you know what Ryan Gosling man that dude He killed it by the way. Did you see a Saturday night live that he did last week? Oh my god, it was so good He's I think he's my favorite person in the entertainment look up Ryan Gosling's tonight live Cyclops sketch Just look that up if you guys know what I'm talking about maybe so much a crawl Was it a play on crawl or was it no? I don't want to say anything else. Just look up the Cyclops sketch it was So damn funny. I mean he's just a great Wit that man is so quick and fast on his feet. Yeah, I mean, he's a true Talent all right, we need to move on here, but guys question is for you

Whatever you guys think jump down to the comments section below And let us know your thoughts All right guys With that down Let's move on to this shall we It was a bit of a surprise Kind of a pleasant one when news came out that Hulu was going to Re-launch the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series Sarah Michelle Geller was coming back two time a Academy Award nominated director and Academy award winning director Chloe Zhao was going to direct the pilot and help work with Sarah Michelle Geller to develop it They brought in a new younger slayer as well Michelle Geller was going to kind of take on the roles the mentor of the former slayer and all that kind of stuff And it's kind of we live in an era when these old IPs are being revitalized and Buffy seemed like one that made sense

42:41So that's why it was really shocking to read this headline Buffy reboot is dead by the way, it wasn't a reboot. It was a relaunch But the Buffy reboot is dead at Hulu. Sarah Michelle Geller says if the apocalypse actually comes you can still beat me um Not a lot of details Have been given out Chloe's house that she wasn't really surprised Uh that it got that they pulled the plug on it. They did shoot the pilot But Here's at least what has been communicated to me And I actually heard a little bit of a while ago, but I didn't think it would be a big deal from my understanding Zaun and Sarah Michelle Geller had a vision of a more mature Buffy the vampire slayer story They just had a vision for I mean, you know, Sarah Michelle Geller is obviously all grown up Chloe Zhao is the type of filmmaker. I mean, we're talking about the filmmaker of Hamnet here

43:43And they had a vision for Buffy because Chloe Zhao grew up loving Buffy the vampire slayer But they wanted they had a more mature take on it and apparently once they made the pilot The folks at Hulu said this isn't really what we had in mind And they decided to pull the plug on it instead of moving forward with it now listen make an entertainment's expensive making a pilot Cost money But a lot less money than putting in a commitment to a full season To go into it and apparently then they just pulled the plug on it And Rob I gotta tell you I am surprised because there was a lot of buzz about a Buffy reboot when they announced it It did seem to pick up a lot of traction And I'm kind of surprised that They didn't just say let's go back to the drawing board or let's tinker or Something instead just saying we're just pulling the plug and moving on were you surprised to hear about this and what are your thoughts on it? Was I surprised to hear about this No, but after I heard about it. I did some digging and I got the script

44:47And I read it Uh, somebody sent me that script. Uh, yes, I normally I wasn't paying attention, but for this I'm a Buffy fan And one I can tell you Sarah Michelle Gallard does not appear until the last page of the script This is script for the pilot. This is the pilot that they shot It is I would say that that look I don't want to slag off on anybody Here's the thing What Joss Whedon and his Cotary of writers did, you know, and that's people like Jane Espenson, Marty Knox and there was great writing staff Everything that Buffy the vampire slayer did write combining great Classical horror tropes with modern teenage life and All different kinds of representation In Buffy it was a beautifully balanced concoction and it really worked and I'm not saying Buffy It was not perfect, you know, there were some seasons that were better than others

45:48And I think the Buffy, Buffy and Angel together taken collectively are are a triumph of Both genre and teenage storytelling the likes of which you don't see much Everything that this pilot script did it did wrong It it it it was as if It was as if the the message of Buffy the vampire slayer the world has changed so much that Buffy that was seen as leading the way in terms of Of representation and diversity and the different kinds of relationships that were in they were just matter of fact They were they were part of the tapestry and nobody looked nobody ever complained about that kind of stuff It's side note the script was written by the screenwriters for the agents of shield. Yes I was Nora and Lilia Zuckerman. Yes wrote the script for it. Yes, I was this new Buffy. Yes I would say somebody once said to me that one of the problems with modern television and Buffy and I think Buffy and Angel and Joss Wieden's writing is some of the most

46:53influential writing of all time in terms of people writing TV today so many people grew up watching Buffy The problem is they grew up watching Buffy But they didn't have the underpinnings that the people who wrote Buffy had to create that show These are people that that everybody I would just say this everybody needs to read more books And watch less television if you want to become a writer And and that's I think that the the scooby gang in this new in new sunnydale just didn't work at all It just didn't work and I read the script and I'm like nobody by page two I was I was pulling my hair out going Because I love Buffy and and I think you know it's just today's Today's writers need to read more that's all I can say read more books All right guys Question is for you Were you surprised to find out that this highly Vonted Buffy relaunch has now been unceremoniously

48:56When the strike happened Was that like they didn't start negotiations till like a month before the deadline Yeah, and it's like what are you what are you guys doing? Well, they decided we're not going to make that mistake again Even though the deadline in the contract they have doesn't expire until June 30th they already started negotiations And now they've ended negotiations and they have no deal No deal was reached However, this is why they started early and neither side sounds like they're panicking and they're saying We're going to we made some progress. We're going to go back to it in a month or two And I mean the folks over the hollywood reporter write this sag aftra and the studios fail to reach a deal Negotiations to continue later this spring hollywood's waiting game isn't over yet a sag aftra and the studios failed to reach a deal on sunday the final day of their primary negotiations period The negotiations over the unions next three-year deal covering film and tv work are now set to continue later this spring ahead of the contracts June 30th expiration sag aftra had previously scheduled this backup period for additional talks in case their first didn't yield an agreement now again

50:03sag aftra didn't sound like they're panicking They said this sag aftra and the a m ptp that's the motion pick those are the producers completed productive bargaining sessions including going Several days beyond what was originally planned while we continue ongoing conversations formal negotiations will resume later the spring as planned Before the current contract expires on June 30th sag aftra and the a m ptp said in a joint statement on Sunday all right two big differences From what's happening right now To what happened when the strike occurred Number one, they're negotiating early They understand these things are complex we're going to hit snags there might be some things that take us some time Let's not leave it to the eleventh hour and then run out of time and have to have strikes again The second big difference if you guys remember this a few years ago Even before the negotiations started it was

51:06While nasty attacks verbally from the studios and from the unions From the writers union and the actors union and the producers in the studios It was finger pointing. It was accusations. It was he said she said It was nasty and it didn't help anybody It didn't get a deal done any quicker It didn't help uncriple the industry. It served no purpose And Rob I'm completely sure That behind closed doors and these negotiations they are not holding hands and singing kumbaya It is not as pleasant. Hey, we had productive meetings. This was great. I'm sure it was heated I'm sure rate voices got raised But you know what that's fine behind closed doors. That's fine What they agreed upon was when we go outside of the doors We're being productive Conversations are ongoing. We stay positive. We focus on the goal. And you know what?

52:07I think that can go a long way. I really do I do not believe for one second. I've said this before I'll say it again I do not believe for a second we're gonna have we are we are even at the threat of having strikes again Because both the studios know full well and the actors and the writers unions know full well That the last strike crippled everybody And if they do it again now when we haven't even fully recovered from the last ones It's mutually assured destruction. It's gonna hurt both of them. They both know this I don't believe either side the studios or the the sag or the wga are going to allow it to come to that again And I think even by the way they're conducting themselves now early negotiations Putting on a positive face public forward all that kind of stuff Tells me they both sides learned a lot of lessons last time. I think they'll get a deal done And again, they know three years is three years Both sides can swallow something they don't like knowing they get to come back three years later

53:10So I'm not worried about this Rob right now because I think both sides know this who disasters they don't you read the statements You feel an optimistic or pessimistic? What do you think? Rob's read the script. I know. I've ever read that script. I'm feeling pessimistic because I think everybody is sort of slow to come around to the realization of what's happening in the industry especially with things like AI coming in um I think that we're going to see a sea change in how things are done in the industry over the next five years And I couldn't tell you where it's gonna land um And I think you know One of the things about the business and how's actors used to make money especially like with residuals and things It is so changed over the last 20 years because of streaming and and a lot of an actors bread and butter if you're in a successful Television show you could rely on that to pay you to for a long time And a lot of that just isn't true anymore and so you know the economic models are so different than the way they used to be

54:15And I You know, I wonder if they're going to be able to come to an accommodation. I hope they will But I think everybody's going to have to say like we live in a very different world now and unfortunately I don't think that world is necessarily conducive to getting really rich making movies and television Depending on who you are especially for actors So I want them to work out I want to be able to I love nothing more than working with great actors It's to me. It's the cornerstone of why anybody Goes to a performance You know, you whether it's whether it's a play whether it's opera whether it's the ballet whether it's a movie You go to see people perform That's the whole thing. I want to see movie stars. I want to see Lee in order to capriol on the screen I want to see Tim Mutay Shalamay played Paula Dredi's I want to look into those people's eyes. I want to hear their voices I don't think that's going to change anytime soon that human beings want to watch other human beings

55:17We have to figure out a way to make the business work so I hope That maybe sags assurances with the studios can preserve the human element That's what I want to see. I'll tell you why I'm not feeling pessimistic comes down to this Let's say you and I we went to dinner on Friday, but let's say you and I go out for dinner again later And the bill comes to 20 bucks And you and I started to argue about who whose turn it is to pay for dinner right when we start arguing about it No, you should pay the 20 no I shouldn't have to pay the 20 bucks. You should pay the okay Now five minutes into our argument The manager comes up to us that says if you don't have it resolved which one of you is paying the 20 bucks You're both being charged $200. Oh That is in essence. What is at stake here? With this it's like I want this inch great But you got to come to a deal or else you lose a mile. Yeah, yeah

56:19And I think both sides know that so like you and I would figure out a way To figure out which one of us is paying 20 bucks or how we're going to split it I get my friend Alvaro to pay like yeah Because neither of us want to pay 200 No, and that's what's at stake here both the studios and the unions are like trying to gain I'll try to gain a few inches. Yeah But if they don't come to an agreement, they're each going to lose miles That to know that that $200 bill in real life is are the personal loans that these people had to take out in order to pay their rent while they weren't working Yeah, I mean they'll I think they'll get it done but I've been optimistic about things before that hasn't turned out anyway guys question is for you What do you think about this the actors in the studios were not able to come to an agreement yet And that's why they started negotiations early. They still have plenty of time I think they're going to get things done. No problem. We're right in that range now where we should be starting to get some marketing and we haven't yet Now last week we talked about the fact that there were some rumors going around that Spider-man brand new day and maybe even dune three Might have their trailers attached to project hell marry We'll see there were no trailers at the special advanced fan screening that we're at like no trailers whatsoever But now it looks like we have found out when that spider-man trailer is coming out

58:24As according to the user ports Spider-man brand new day trailer release date and time possibly revealed along with new promo art Where did it come from? Well, basically it's this now. We may have the exact date and time In in a since deleted post from Sony pictures distributor in Kazakhstan The plan is for the sneak peek to swing online this Wednesday at seven oh five a.m. Eastern time That'll be four oh five a.m. For us here in California That isn't the usual time for Sony trailer releases So we'll see whether an official teaser announcement drops today or tomorrow All right now it's important to note here This isn't some local movie theater that accidentally posted something this was Sony's actual district distribution partner in arm In one of the international territories that had put that up and then pulled it down Here's why this is absolutely believable to me Number one, I said a few weeks ago that was my understanding we were gonna get a spider-man trailer before the end of March

59:29All the rumors coming out about it being attached possibly to project Hail Mary Which is being distributed by Sony internationally Uh Amy Pascal by the way is the producer of project Hail Mary. She's also producer on spider-man brand new day But it also tracks because we all know that 99.99% of the time trailers do not debut Attached to movies they debut online That's just the way it works today unless you're Christopher Nolan your trailers debut online and With project Hail Mary officially launching on Thursday Them dropping the trailer for spider-man brand new day Wednesday morning makes perfect sense Can we say this is a hundred percent confirmed No, but understanding the sources actually one of the distributors of the film Understanding that there had been a lot of word that it was going to come out this month Possibly attached project Hail Mary and the fact that this is literally being said to be one day before project Hail Mary comes out

We're getting a dune three trailer Because today at three o'clock Warner Brothers and legendary are having an event that Denny Villeneuve is speaking at in LA It's in LA hosted by Reese Feldman. It's at 3 p.m. Today Where it's there's going to be an exclusive conversation and a first look at the dune three trailer With Denny Villeneuve in attendance talking about it I would assume that means that the trailer is going to come out also with project Hail Mary Because what better movie which means either tonight or possibly Wednesday morning is yeah Yeah, Wednesday morning as well. So so I think that we're gonna get both those trailers And what a what a way to jumpstart The summer movie season in March Then to show a big 250 million dollar ten pull based on a beloved book total crowd pleasing great entertainment

1:01:34Rousing entertainment with trailers for spider-man and dune in front of it Because they're going to be at large gauge. It's going to be playing at iMacs theaters I mean how cool. How cool is it going to be i'm going to see project Hail Mary again on Thursday in 70 millimeter 15 per four we saw at the Irvine Spectrum. I'm going back to see that dune trailer in iMacs Yeah, but by the way side note There were no trailers at our screening a project home area, but they did play The Odyssey Prelude that yeah, which I had not seen either. Yeah, no, we forgot about that. Give it the best picture Oscar right now To give honestly the best picture Oscar right now. It felt like a couple like minutes flew by it when I saw it I could not believe it Like I could not believe how thrilling and insane just those few minutes were I mean, it's going to be that or doing three Uh, by the way project Hail Mary will get nominated for best picture this year. Yeah, 100% get nominated, but I don't think it's gonna win Uh, anyway, that all being said, you know with spider-man coming out All the attention understandably so

1:02:37Has completely been on Avengers doomsday mm-hmm They've already started doing some little promotional work with the little four-piece vignettes that they put out They got the big countdown clock website running. They did share watch Which is one of the dumbest things Marvel's ever done, but they did share watch All that kind of stuff. So you'd be forgiven if like a lot of your focuses on Avengers doomsday, but I'll tell you what I've heard the spider-man movies really good. Yeah, that's what I've heard that's the word going around Yeah, yeah, um, and a lot of people we know have heard that as well and you know what Nothing will help Avengers doomsday more than a baller spider-man brand new day movie If that movie comes out and crushes it and the audience loves it because listen Marvel is finally after years Finally starting to build some momentum again With thunderbolts With fantastic four which I thought was quite good. We got daredevil season two coming out which people are excited about and we got spider-man coming

1:03:39If they can really crush that momentum I mean that could really help doomsday a lot, but I'm really excited about this and I I am thinking Rob That on Wednesday show our lead topic is probably going to be talking about the new spider-man trailer I agree and you know what else I've heard I've heard is quite good Actually quite excellent is vision quest So you're gonna go from spider-man brand new day to I somewhere between spider-man brand new day and doomsday vision quest is going to Open or open stream stream and I'm sure that that one two punch And we're getting we're getting daredevil season three if you're a brand new day season two and wonder man was great Oh, that's the other thing. Yeah, speaking of momentum wonder man was Yeah, so you've got wonder man daredevil spider-man and then vision and then doomsday I would say Marvel the Marvel it's looking bright from yeah

1:04:39Again, we've been waiting years for them to act they've had a few really good things along the way the last few years But then followed up by terrible things It's been hard for them to build any momentum and it finally feels like they've got a little bit going right now By the way, I went to the Disney studios the other day and I figured they would have a gigantic spigot That they would just open up with leaks To doomsday. I mean, I was looking I drove all around the studio because I figured with all the with everybody making a new A new leak video every day. There's got to be somebody actually at the studio Just turning on the spigot so leaks just go out into the world I wouldn't be shocked to find out that it was Marvel leaking all the stuff out Least because remember I remember I said I think by the end of March I originally set by the end of summer But then last month I changed to buy the end of March. I think everything's gonna be out there Everything's out there. I even stopped lying. I started making up all this outlandish people I Know I mean I stopped lying about this particular movie. Yeah, no, no, I was making up the most outlandish shit No, I mean I people but it is I mean, I'm deliriously excited for for it

1:05:45I mean, I can't wait. Yeah, it's gonna be great and I'm looking forward seeing this trailer man I can't wait to see this trailer either. All right guys. 1:06:48And I thought we would go down and go through you know how we felt about some of the winners But at first before we do that some statistics First of all This one one battle after another took home the most Oscars sinners did have the most nominees actually centers Set the all-time record for most nominations in a single year. They what they get 16 16 nominations But one battle after another as we expected walked away with the most Oscars. They won six sinners got very impressive showing one four Frankenstein ended up taking home three Oscars Kate holly congratulations Kate K pop demon hunters one two And then hamnet weapons sentimental value f1 and avatar fire nash all took home Oscars as well for the major films From a studio perspective It was Warner Brothers night Warner Brothers ended up taking home 11 Oscars most of them just for one battle after another and sinners

1:07:49Of course, they also got one for weapons Netflix got some for some documentaries But they also won two for K pop demon hunters and three for Frankenstein Then focus Walt Disney Apple neon no paramount Yeah, I was gonna say you know, it's if there's anything that maybe it wasn't f1 paramount No, it's apple. That's right. It's apple. It was yeah, it was just true. It's officially but it's officially an apple film That's right. I forgot about paramount one debt So they got a lot of paramount. Yeah, they won debt, which I'm gonna do an editorial on later tonight about their debt But we'll talk about that later Warner Brothers Crushed it this year. Congratulations to them Taking all those home. Total result by the way if Pam abdee Mike DeLuca didn't you love all the callouts by the the winners who to say Pam and Pam and Mike all night all night long Yes, so let's go over and take a look at some of the results. We'll go over every category But we'll go through a bunch of them. First of all, we're gonna start with best picture

Yeah well which brings us into the next category which was best director What was it he's been nominated 14 times 14 times And last night He took it home best director again. No surprise. We talked about it on our prediction show last week He was going to win. Of course he beat out uh Chloe Zau Uh Josh Safty Uh Wyckim Tier and Ryan Kugler for best director by the way fun little piece of trivia

It's just a fun little piece of trivia there So he's the guy to work with he's the guy to work with you want your director Oscar Then of course the only one I thought was a close race Best actor And it went to Michael B Jordan You know, I made an editorial video about this last week Rob the day before The sag awards Timothy Shalame was a 16 point favorite to win best actor But then the actors voted and by the way the actors represent the largest block of the academy

1:11:02The actors voted. I mean Timothy Shalame won all the other ones. Keep me a golden globe's critic choice You know all these different awards. He won them all But the night before the sag awards Timothy Shalame 16 point favorite Then Michael B Jordan won at the sag awards the day after the sag awards Michael B Jordan became a 21 point favorite overnight I mean the rest of the industry voting was great But the actors then voted and apparently what I was told by a couple of members of sag It was a really close vote between Timothy Shalame and Michael B Jordan And apparently it was really close again, but Michael B Jordan ends up taking home the Oscar Look I again a little bit different. I would have voted my vote would have been for Timothy Shalame I just think he gave overall The best performance of the year But Michael B Jordan was so damn good in this movie. I know I thought it was it was great I mean, I thought Timothy Shalame, you know I've really been following whatever controversy It wasn't just the opera ballet thing. I mean, I liked Timothy Shalame a lot. We've talked about how good he is By the time that blew up most of the voting was already done. Yeah. Yeah, so I don't but I I love that Michael B Jordan I mean, I've been an unabashed fan of his it's the wire and since Friday night lights I love seeing his journey. He's a great director He's doing the Thomas Crown affair right now and the third version of that that he's starring in He's just and his speech last night was so classy and he was so that's sweet tonight He was so great. Just he buckley and you know Everybody who's been involved with sinners that's been on the awards circuit anybody who stood up especially Ryan Google lead the way have been nothing but gracious and thankful and inclusive to all their great collaborators Ludwig Gornson one as well. I mean, it's great to see two college roommates killing it in Hollywood from USC

1:13:06I mean, I love everybody that made this movie. I More power to them. They've shown us how it's done class and grace all the way around All right, by the way as a side note when When earlier in the Oscars they announced that there was a tie For best short live action I turned to Ann and I said my buddies were there and I said I'm willing to put five bucks down That when it comes to best actor they're gonna announce a tie Between I honestly I really was expecting it. I thought they're gonna announce a tie between Timothy And Michael B. Jordan, but it went to Michael B. Jordan. All right best actress We've been saying all along. This was the one category this year that was the lock of locks There was no question going into it whatsoever Jesse Buckley won For best actress for her perform her insane performance Inhamnant now I heard some people criticizing her because when they announced her name she freaked out

1:14:07People say come on man. She knew she was gonna win because she won all the other awards. Listen. I'll tell you what You don't know When you're sitting there because listen on a thousand times smaller scale. I remember the first time we were we did the We were nominated for best series the best live series online at the international Academy of web television had the big ceremony out in Las Vegas bunch of us from the team went out to Las Vegas for it. They put a big broadcast production We knew In theory that we were the favorites to win We we knew that in advance But until they actually got up there and said movie talk I was still shocked when it happened and that's on an infinitesimally small means nothing scale So like she's sitting there and they read her name and I just like that reaction of hers I thought was priceless and her speech was fantastic so great Her Michael B Jordan again just had amazing speeches. I don't think anybody else was even

1:15:12At all realistically in the running and I thought she deserved it Rob and by the way Chloe's out second time She's directed an actress to win best actress at the Academy Awards nice feather in her cap too. What did you think about this? I thought it was great. I you know, I'll tell you one thing Having seen the bride you know like what the week before yeah I so good in that uh, but I was looking for the bride in Jesse Buckley totally different like she's a million And she's so heartbreaking and hamnet and just watching her get up and be all the boy in Irish beauty that she is I mean, I was like wow She really isn't amazing Oh my god. Yeah, she's so good. She's incredible. She's incredible. No, I thought it was great I thought both of them were great. It was great. Highlight of the evening Um, all right Another one That I was very happy to see best supporting actor Sean Penn By the way, Sean Penn is now tied for the most acting Oscars in history. He's now got three

1:16:12Uh, he tied Daniel Day Lewis and two others. I'm trying to remember who they were But he got his third where where was he um, he's not a fan of the Academy. Yeah, I know He's very vocal about that. I'm actually going to do an editorial video about that at some point But I think even though he has other Oscars. I thought this was his best performance I just really thought his performance in this was that good. I am so glad that he won Um, and I just thought and you know what the other interesting thing is this I think Sean Penn winning who has been extremely critical of the Academy. He does not like the Academy The Academy doesn't particularly like him But it kind of proves the point like all these Conspiracy theorists and stuff like that like oh this person didn't win Well, that's because the so-and-so don't like them right no, no, no No, no, no, this is the thing that I always try to tell people about the Academy The 95% of the Academy voting members because you know a bunch of them and I know a bunch of them too They don't give a crap about any that other stuff. They don't care. Give a crap about the noise

1:17:16They don't give a crap about this Sean Penn hates them and they hate Sean Penn. I mean he gave his awards away and at the end of the day They're like but Sean Penn was the best performance. So we're voting for him It doesn't matter that he doesn't like us. It doesn't matter that we don't particularly like him He gave the best performance and we're voting for it and that's the way it should be And on top of the fact that I just thought he did give the best performance. I was thrilled to see it Were you surprised because listen there was a little bit momentum for Jacob allorty um scar scar had some momentum Going into it as well Delroy Lindo was kind of an emotional favor going at Benicio del Toro a lot of people thought if someone who's gonna win from That it was be Benicio who was great, but I thought they got it right with Sean Penn. Yeah, I did too I mean I never felt that anybody he I thought he was a lock the whole time So any was and indeed, you know, I don't have any calms with that All right We move on now to best supporting actress Which we all thought going into it. It was gonna be Madigan and sure enough it was

1:18:18Her there was some late thought that uh Umie from sinners might get it Elf ending also from sentiment of value by the way that movie some sentimental values of amazing. I was late to it It's amazing. Anyway, Amy Madigan wins in one I I thought was one of the best feeling moments of the year because You know, I was talking to the people I was with watching the Oscars Including on the livestream and I said It's great seeing young talent get rewarded and get Oscars. That's great. I love it, but There's also something really cool When you come to the Oscars and you see somebody like Amy Madigan you see somebody like Delroy Lindo you see somebody like Stellan Scarsgard Delroy and Stellan who Historic careers both of them their first nominations Crazy To see somebody Like Amy Madigan who has contributed to this industry and to the art for decade after decade after decade And then getting up there and being recognized for this achievement because she's

1:19:22Gone through it all you know and to her stand up there and you saw that and I thought that was a beautiful moment Anyway, what did you think about it? Oh my god Did I let me tell you how I love that First of all, I've loved Amy Madigan since I saw her in Streets of Fire in Walter Hill Streets of Fire in 1984 I loved her in fields of field of dreams. It's just like the 60s. She was great. It's Kevin Costner's wife I love Amy Madigan, but I also you know, I love more than Amy Madigan her husband Ed Harris And to see they've been married like she said forever They've been married forever. They've been going strong. They're a power Hollywood couple and to see the love between them To see the look on Ed Harris's face the pride and she just the last thing She said I want to call out my lovely Ed. You know, we've been together forever I mean Ed Harris has been a baller since he was in Georgia Merrill's movie Night Riders Unbelievable. I've always loved it Harris wherever Ed Harris goes. I will follow And apparently so Amy Madigan, but more importantly Ed Harris will follow her and that's what I loved is that that power couple take home an Oscar

1:20:23It was a beautiful moment in the Amy Madigan deserve it. By the way Playing a horror character. Yeah, playing a genre monstrous witch or as somebody put it on film week The third time someone has won an Academy Award in Joker makeup So uh, I love that. I loved it so much John It it was great now then we had some categories that we also said we're foregone We're not going to spend much time on these But we had the the screenplay categories. We knew we knew that best adapted screenplay was going to go To one battle after another. We knew that Ryan Kugler was going to win his first Oscar For best original screenplay for sinners. Those were foregone conclusions. No surprise there and both well deserved What was not well deserved was kpop demon hunters winning best animated feature I'm obsessed with the soundtrack. You knew that was going to happen though. I really thought Zotopia was going to win. I saw that the betting odds was kpop demon hunters

1:21:24I understood all that but I still at the end of the day Thought that the better film Zotopia 2 would win Um, I'm the only person in this household that is not a big Kpop demon hunters as a movie fan again. I love the soundtrack. I'm obsessed with it But I didn't think the movie was that good, but whatever It's good for them. They ended up taking home two Oscars everybody knew golden was going to win the Oscar for best song And they did end up taking home best animated feature as well. So You know good to them. Yeah, fair play on them. I was but you weren't surprised at all that it took that home No, by the way, it was a really strong category this year. It was all of those movies were well elio Maybe not elio. I didn't love elio but omelie Little omelie pardon me is a wonderful film. Yeah omelie's a different film Yeah, but and Zotopia 2 is great. So but I knew it was anyway And you know, this was the first year I can remember in a while

1:22:28That multiple foreign films Were nominated for best picture. Yeah see because normally speaking best foreign film Categorite the Oscars is a waste of time because If one of them if one of the nominees for best foreign feature is nominated for best picture Then there's there's no mystery there Only one of the nominees was good enough to actually get nominated for best picture Clearly that movie is going to win best foreign film But this year we had two We had the secret agent which another one I was late to amazing So good deserve not didn't deserve to win best picture but deserve to be nominated and sentimental value It was actually an interesting race this year for best international feature And it ended up going to sentimental value which I think well deserved You know, it's sentimental value might have been my fourth or fifth favorite film of the year overall

1:23:28I thought it was that good So congratulations to sentimental value for taking home for the first time ever a really interesting race for best Foreign language film All right, where do we go then after that? That was international feature We're not going to cover the documentary or the shorts um Oh the initial best casting award went to one battle after another I thought it was going to come down between that and sinners Both of them incredible. I didn't think the cast in hamlet was broad enough to really have in there But were you surprised at one battle? No, I thought that was a great choice What a great cast And there was there was the one girl in the movie. It's our first feature film You know and the actress I forget the characters she played but but it was I saw but interview you You're not talking about chase infinity are you? Am I talking about I'm not sure are you talking about one battle after another? Yeah Okay, one of the actresses in that film. It was a very first feature film really yeah

1:24:28And to me that's that is a score That's what a casting director can bring to you when you believe in them And they find that diamond into in the rough that has never but steps up So then that would have been chase infinity By the way, she look again, I'll do respect to Taylor who was nominated for best supporting actress But the actress from one battle after another that should have been nominated for best supporting actress was not her It was chase infinity. I thought she was the heart of the movie, but Anyway, then we got to a category that had my household very excited Best cinematography Because not only for the first time in the history of the academy awards did a woman win for best cinematographer But it was a Filipino woman So my living room exploded because I had my wife her sister their mom is all here And so the best cinematographer for again

1:25:30sinners Autumn DeRalde Archipa who I hope that's the bright pronunciation of her last name She won Filipino woman won it so my household was all very very very excited So they were very happy to see that Best costume design ended up going to Frankenstein Also best hair and makeup went to Frankenstein No surprise they are totally deserved it on both fronts. Yep Best film editing went to one battle after another's Andy Jurgenson Who won? Had a nice speech to of course, there were two winners for best short and then we get down to best original score Ludwig Gorgensen wins his third Third this dude looks like he's at going to a frat party and he's already got three Oscars on his mantle

1:26:31Three he had a great speech too He did talk about his dad and guitar in his hands. I mean If you could go back in time and look at a dorm room at USC Where these two film students are rooming together Little guy by the name of Ryan Kugler And this long haired hippie guy Ludwig Gorgensen roommates And look at what they have achieved and this guy now has three Oscar and I would add Michael B. Jordan You know Michael B. Jordan who starred in Fruitvale station You know who's starting Creed who starred in as Kilmonger and in Black Panther and now doing this It's the team You know that I think some of the most successful people in Hollywood are those people that find their team And once they have that it's like Martin Scorsese working with Thelma Schumacher You know and you work with your team and and everybody knows their roles and everybody You know becomes world class together There's nothing stronger for anybody who's trying to make movies than having a team

1:27:34And having the right people that you can work with and trust and that is clearly worked out for Ryan And it's clearly worked out for Ludwig So congratulations to him now he was nominated for another Oscar last night for best song But he lost that one and it went to best original song went to Golden from Kpop demon hunters You know what I got to tell you I fell in love With the story of the woman who wrote and sang the song EJ the one who does who sings the voice of roomy in Kpop demon hunters The fact that she comes from this background where she was put through this Grind her farm system in Korea about trying to produce Kpop stars And they have an academy for it. That's how artificial the whole music businesses become And she went through it for years and then ultimately rejected Saying you don't have what it takes and now you're too old and you're out And she just goes on to become the biggest star in the world. I mean good for her. I just felt so good for her

1:28:34When she won and again the music in it is Incredible and great and Yeah, I so good for them. So anyway, that was the Oscars last night Again, I thought overall I'm a huge Conan O'Brien fan. I thought it was kind of flat For it we went through all the things I wish they would improve upon But overall, I mean a feel good presentation. Yeah any other highlights for you Rob. You know what not I Not especially but the overall it tells you the healthy State that the art of cinema is in All of these nominees were very much worthy nominees the films I thought this year were incredible Even films that didn't win like the Spanish film Sirot Incredible most pictures are still being made today and I think that that and seeing and seeing Like having Paul Thomas Anderson has had his nose to the grindstone since making hard eight aka Sydney

1:29:34back in the 90s and you know He's been doing nothing but turning out incredibly diverse films going from licorice pizza the phantom thread to this To book you know boogie nights to punch drunk love. I mean And he wins. I love seeing that. I love seeing that that we awarded people this year that were incredibly deserving and it made me excited to see what they all do next So that's the best thing. Won't frustrate everybody But the big thing to me is My number one thing that I use for my phones is taking pictures, but my number two is using the virtual assistant And Siri sucks Even the most die hard of apple fanboys will tell you Siri sucks The google assistant android assistant had always been way better, but now with the um like with my galaxy fold I can actually set it so that the default assistant isn't even Google assistant, which is way better. Mm-hmm. I can set it that gemini is actually the assistant. Yeah

1:35:54Oh, and it heard me say its name. I got it all but That means I can ask because I got so sick of going Hey Siri and asking it something and nine times out of ten. Sorry. I don't know that Or I found a few results on the web you couldn't look at and I just got so frustrated with it constantly That I just couldn't wait to get away from it and then the Again the the fold seven came out And I just got to tell you guys walking around with a Small tablet in my pocket is amazing and I love being back on android I'm still a mac guy, but I so glad to be back on the android. I will never go back and by the way I thought about the new apple folding phone that was coming out too, but at the end of the day was too small It's smaller than the z fold seven is even opened and so I just thought you know what it's too small I want a larger screen for folding one and that's why I decided not to I decided not to wait around for it to see the apple one because it's just too physically small

I had a good time watching that movie and you know, I'm I already know I love Alan Richon Yeah, I think he's terrific and I thought it was a very there's a scene in this movie to where a bunch of guys like

1:39:05Get to the edge of this hill and they'll go rolling downhill. Have you seen it yet? Not yet Okay, there's seen where they get all go rolling down the hill That I thought was one of the more stressful shocking Like oh my god moments like it's it's a really fun movie. It is I don't know that I call it a great movie uh Like just from the a pure filmmaking perspective there are a lot of things that are really lame Like Well, I don't want to say anything because I don't want to spoil anything. Let's just say there's a number of really stupid things in them Like things that are really really stupid That said At the end of the day all that matters is was I entertained watching it and I was I had a good time. It's fun It's a fun movie, but it is not an all-time sci-fi classic because you there's some major mistakes They made that just like something to do with the There's a particular mechanical thing about the alien invading army that this is really really dumb

1:40:07But I'll I'll go into that another time. We got this next. We got Ridge who says Hey, John. 1:41:10Um, and I'm a big you know, I've historically been a big Buffalo Bill fan and I love Josh Allen and I put in a bid I bid 1500 bucks for yeah, didn't think it would win But I like I'd like to have that So The whole two three hour tailgate thing comes and goes because you put in your phone number in your email address So I figured they'll notify you if you won the bidding And I never got notified So I figured okay, I guess I lost and then I was at the after party and we hung up there for a bit And then we ended up leaving Denver the next day and they never got in touch with me so I figured I lost Well like a week or two later They reach out to say hey congratulations you won wow Um Send us 1500 bucks and we'll ship you this helmet. I'm like no It's one thing for me to hand over 1500 bucks and have the helmet in my hands That I can walk away with I'm not sending anybody 1500 bucks and just trust you're gonna ship this thing to me

1:42:13I just trusted it's not gonna get lost somewhere. I know I'm not no I was my understanding that you're gonna let us know if we won and I could have picked it up and taken it home with me when I was there in Denver So that was kind of the one unfortunate situation with that. I would have liked to have had it But I I'm not doing that. So are you able um Like our Fans of a football team are you able to buy like field grade helmets Feel great like like the actual yeah, like you know, you can buy like field like grade like jerseys for baseball or whatever Do they sell those? Yeah, you can actually buy the helmets that they actually use in the NFL Oh, that's cool 100% for sure, but to have one that Josh Allen actually Sure, autograph. I would have liked to have had that in my living room All right, we got me who says why can't the academy figure out how to handle speeches I want winners to have their moment and speak, but everyone needs to follow the rules short in the sticks with presenters But also the nominees need to know only one person speaks if a group that's the whole that was one of the big things to me And I've scream it at the TV every year if you are it like if

1:43:15There's two designers or three musicians whatever If you know that if you win there's two or three of you that need to go up to accept Figure it out in advance. Which one speaks for you Or Make sure that you each speak for just five or ten seconds I want to think my wife my kids my managers and the studio next one I want to think my wife my kids and the manager suit next one I want to think my husband and my kids and the management and studio boom 20 30 seconds and there you go You've got to have that figured out Because you everybody thinks they're a precious little princess and you are not more important than everybody else And everybody else is trying to stick to the time you stick to the time and it's yes They really and listen, I don't even pin this on the academy because they tell them this But everybody thinks yeah, but they'll make an exception for me shut up Just shut your mouth take your trophy and go and sit down. That's what Conan should have said on stage Yes, he told me should have and I'm telling you I honestly think they need to implement a trap door

1:44:18Like listen you you get to the end of your time. We're gonna start playing the music So you know just in case you lost track of time we're gonna start playing the music if you're still talking ten seconds after they start playing the music trap door man or Or squid game it nope. Oh You'll lose your Oscar. Oh If you're stills talking ten seconds after they're done Conan O'Brien comes out and takes your Oscar away saying well too bad Now we go on the next place second place winner now the winner is somebody else That's what they should do is the only way they're gonna make them stop All right, what's next? I mean falls up this happens every year Cutting on people off with lights and lowering the mic is not cool But figure out your game plan when you get to the stage I know these winners are nervous and overwhelmed But everyone needs to do a better job What else but you know lowering the lights and and playing the music is cool. What else are they supposed to do? Seriously give me Another option about how the production Can nudge the the people accepting the award to move it along and wrap up

1:45:24I think playing the music is perfect. It lets them know. Oh, okay. I don't care what anybody else says Um, and to deliver the type of performance that he did In what was otherwise a terrible movie is ridiculously good I I think he is the best actor of his generation. I think he might be the best actor in the world right now

2:04:04I almost tapped out of the show entirely after season two. I look at this I'm not just saying that I think season two wasn't as good as season one. I don't think season two was good I really don't so when season three came out um I really wasn't that interested like I knew I was still I hadn't tapped out of invincible yet I was still interested I didn't rush to watch it when it first came out so I didn't start watching it till it had already come out about three or four weeks But season three was a big improvement over season two Big improvement. So yes, I'm still on board with invincible and um and hopefully it will be more like seasons one and three Then it was like season two Okay, final one Egon I think you know the rest of the Odyssey Prologue before Hail Mary 70 millimeter was pure cocaine my job was on the floor Especially that end montage wow. You know, it's funny um And doesn't really know much about Odyssey coming out like she knows the movies she knows the story of the Odyssey
