Well, greetings and salutations, everybody. Welcome to the best day I moved related show on the planet earth. The John Campius show County from right here. It might dilapidated converted garage. I am, of course, your host John Campi. I'm joined today. The one the only descending from Mount Olympus. Three C films themselves. Chris Parker's here. Hey, thank you so much for having me on. John. I'm ready to talk. Oh, I love it. I was literally told and I want to find myself a green lantern ring. I only want to get one. Okay. Now you've just made me really envious. Okay. Also, of course, joining us here is our technical director Jonathan Boyko. Hey, everybody. I don't have a ring. I've got some ear plugs, but I don't have any rings. Sorry. And of course, most importantly, guys, you guys are here. Thank you so much for being here and making our little show part of your day. And here's how today's show's going to go. We're going to start off by talking about a number of pre-determined topics we got lined up for you guys. And then the second part of the show is when we're going to take your live comments and questions. If you're watching live and you have to be watching live

and you have a thought theory of opinion or an issue you'd like me to address, go ahead and fire it on into the super chat feature. And as long as I deem it appropriate to be addressed on the show, we'll get around answering it in the second part of the show. All right, guys, we got a lot of stuff to cover here today. So we're going to get things kicked off here. And we're going to cut you off with this. You know, lanterns is now on the air. And watching episode three, for me, one of the best single episodes of DC television I've ever seen. I'm not going to say it's the best single episode of DC television I've ever seen, but I'm going to say it's in the conversation. I mean, that's just to me. It's all subjective. It's art, but I really, really loved it. I had a great time with it. Now, we talked before about the fact that, you know, a lot of shows will get their biggest ratings, their biggest viewership, either on their season premieres or often at their finales. The question really becomes,

do people keep coming back? Do the viewership numbers go down as they often do after a season premier? Or do they go up? And if they do go up miraculously, do they continue to go up? Well, that is a question we don't have to ask about lanterns anymore because as we discussed last week, lanterns episode two, after its record breaking debut, the viewership went up. And now, according to report in variety, they've gone up again. Variety is headlining lanterns episode three attracts 10 million views globally on HBO Max on a new series. High. They went on to explain this. They said HBO Max's lanterns continues to grow in viewership. The DC studio series third episode, which premiered Sunday, August 30th, averaged 10 million viewers globally and seven million viewers in the US after three days of viewership, according to the network. By the way, they say the episode one that was up to over 20 million views, which is of course partially,

you know, from just people getting caught up, but also because word of mouth spreading, people wanting to catch on. And that's the key, right? That's the key to anything like this is that in order for a show to be really successful. And again, I keep going back to wand division because this was something that was really, really emphasized with wand division. One division was a show that didn't start off to great viewership, but every single week, the viewership went up and up and up because more and more people kept talking about it. Everybody was discussing it. People are going to work in hearing all their work people talk about now. They start checking out and they're like, oh, well, I better go back to the beginning and watch the first episode again. And you know, that ultimately guys is where the rubber meets the road about whether or not a show is actually connecting with its audience. It doesn't mean you need to like it. It doesn't mean you need to think it's good, but really the ultimate litmus test about whether or not a show is connecting with its audience is what does the viewership do week to week? Does it decline? Does it stay steady,

which is always great? Or does it actually climb and go up? Especially when it launched to the numbers like this. And I believe they said it's the biggest episode debut for any DC television show. Yeah, it was. And that they never had. And like in the top five for HBO or for HBO. Now think about that. Think about all the shows and all the seasons and all the stuff that HBO has had. And so it started at that incredibly high number. And then just increasingly just keeps going up from there, which again, like I said, I think is the ultimate, you know, sign that the show is indeed connecting with its audience. Again, it doesn't mean everybody likes it. It doesn't mean everybody needs to like it. But it is showing that it is connecting with its audience. Anyway, Chris, you've got the ring man. So you've been watching the show. Are you surprised to see these viewership numbers? Because like Green Lantern is not a sea list character by any such

imagination. But he's not one of the heavy DC hitters. He's not in the trinity of the DC here. He's not Batman. He's not Wonder Woman. He's not even Flash. And yet it's drawing these types of numbers. What do you attribute this to? No, I mean, honestly, I remember when James gun first announced the lanterns would be coming in. And I was excited. He's like, yes, we're getting Green Lantern love again. They're going to try again after the Ryan Reynolds. But I was disappointed when I heard it was a TV show. And I was like, ah, they belong on the big screen. That's a big hero. But I mean, it's working. I mean, TV, we're into still I think Golden Age, you know, and they are proven with this. It's really nice to see. And like you said, there's been a lot of comic book shows since like the WandaVision days. But I remember specifically like the WandaVision days where it's just nonstop discourse online, you know, about theorizing and wondering and people speculating. And it felt like that died down a show to show on Disney Plus or comic book show after comic book show. And with lanterns, it feels like it's ignited.

It's people are interested. They're in I am so happy for this not only for the Green Lantern brand because now it's sometimes being taken more seriously right. And we don't just have the green the Ryan Reynolds one stain. But I also think the gamble paid off for what James Gunner them set out to do with this. You know, it seemed very obvious to me they were trying to go after a different market. They're like the comic book leaks are probably still going to check this out. But to me, it felt like they were trying to aim for that that yellow stone or Tulsa King type audience with the way they were trying to go for the show. And it's appealing. It's appealing all around. And it's a really great show. I'm also just I knew it was going to be good. I did not expect how good it is. I am actually kind of surprised with how good the show has been week to week. And even more with episode three, like I think post James Gunner. It's probably my favorite thing the DC has done so far. So really awesome. Really awesome to see. And it makes me excited to see what they do next. And I mean, with something like this too, John, you know, we just had the super girl, which was like a hiccup in the road for gun. That's a kind way of putting it. That's a very generous

way of putting it. We'll call it a hiccup. Sure. Let's call it a hiccup. But I but knowing the way shows are and then there's still only a niche amount and only a fraction of the general audience that still checks this out is the the shows quality enough to get people that excited again where, you know, that super girl hiccup is not going to be as much for them. Well, I think the key thing here and that's a great question. I think the key thing here is that we know Aaron Pierre is going to be in man of tomorrow, right? So I mean, let's look, it's it's this isn't if and it's a big if. But if the show continues to grow in its viewership and again, that that is admittedly a big if. But and we are getting to the point that it's numbers keep growing and it has the number. I mean, it's already got incredibly impressive numbers. Then following that up with him coming back into man of tomorrow is going to do nothing but help. Now, I don't think it does anything for clayface. Right. Clay clay faces. Listen, look, clay faces. What it is. It's a small, lower budget niche film that

they decided to do because they thought they had a great concept for it and it looks really good and that's great. But I honestly think even though it's a TV show and this is the opposite of what I normally think, I actually think lanterns is going to have a bigger influence on re-engaging the momentum for the DCU then even clayface because the great clayface is as good as it may be or as bad as it may be who knows it's just a smaller project. I think most people know, know what is such. Anyway, guys, question is for you. What do you think about this? Apparently for the third week in a row, then viewership numbers for lanterns just keeps going up. That doesn't mean you need to like it. It doesn't mean anybody needs to like it. But obviously a lot of people are and it's connecting with a lot of people. Why do you think that is? Whatever you guys think, jump down to the comments section below and let us know your thoughts. All right, guys, with that down, let's move on to this, shall we?

You know, one of the truly crazy stories over the last while has been the whole journey of the God of War series. I mean, first of all, they killed it by having the fact that they got Ronald D. Moore, who in my opinion is the greatest showrunner of all time. So you attached him to it to a game of the year game that is one of the very, very, very few games that actually true has screen worthy narrative storytelling in it. So that was great. Then they went out and got my boy. Oh, from some man or king. And I thought that was brilliant casting. And then we saw pictures of him recently and he was absolutely jacked and huge. He tore his bicep, not going to be able to do his physical stuff for at least a year. They decided they needed a recast. And then we found out they got Dave Batista. The big question, though, had been that Dave Batista has lost a lot of his

muscle on purpose. Like he's purposely wanted to trim down. He's in his mid fifties. He's decided he wanted to trim down. And so they were kind of wondering what's he going to be like? What kind of physical shape can it be in like? Like I said, he's a lot smaller, but his body's genetics know what it's like to carry around that kind of weight. So maybe he can get back to it. Well, Dave Batista decided to answer the question today when he got on Instagram. And this is coming to us from variety. He got on Instagram and decided to take a shirt off for everybody to show him getting back into creative shape. The way variety headlines at transformation to play crados or I should say Dave Batista shows off body transformation to play crados in God of War series two more months to get where I need to be. He said, and again, you can take a look at the picture of him here, which I mean, look, I have never looked that good. I will never look that good. Like he's look even in

his midsection, man, his the abs are coming back in his chest is defined again. Now at the same time, he's not the same guy he used to be in both ways. Like when you go back to him in his WWE days, I mean, look, he is now he's a hundred pounds lighter than that. I mean, he's easily a hundred pounds lighter than that now. He he his body simply cannot in his mid fifties get back up to that. Now at the same time, he's clearly put a lot of the muscle back on from the other picture from the Toronto International Film Festival the other year when he had dropped like a lot of his body weight. And remember, he famously said to that he didn't want to work out like that anymore. He didn't want it because it's it takes a toll on you at that age. Just ask Hugh Jackman to walk around with that and he didn't want to do it anymore. Well, apparently he changed his mind for a little film called or a

little series, I should say called God of War. And listen, the other neat thing about Dave, and the reason I like the the casting is while I do think, oh, why did I just freeze on Ops name, the guy who was going to play Kratos. First Ryan Hurst. Yeah, Ryan Hurst. I mean, I love Ryan. Ryan is a top level actor. Like he's not a list. He's not on Timothy Shalame or, you know, neither an order capital level, but he is a great actor. So he was great for that. And the thing about Dave Batista is he did not start off as a great actor. And he's he was the first person to say that. He said that public. I'm not the greatest actor. I'm really lucky to have these chances. He would say but when you look, especially over just the last couple of years, when you look at the body of work that he's turned in, like I think these are his five best performances. Now you take out his performance and blade runner 2049 in which he was being directed by the great Dennyville move.

That was 2017. Everything else on this list is within the last five years. I mean, not the original Guardians of the Galaxy, but he played Drac's most recently. His performance in glass on Ian Shodys got great comedic chops. He was wonderful in the last show girl. Not, you know, I didn't think knock at the cabin was fabulous, but he was, you know what? He was good. He did not come across as a former actor or as a former wrestler turned actor. He just came across in that movie as a solid actor, you know what I mean? And I don't think it's a coincidence when you look at this list that other than blade runner 2047, which again was 2017. All of these other ones are relatively recent. He's just gotten better and better and better as a performer as an actor. And so when they said Dave Batista, I was actually less concerned about the fact that he's not the same muscular monster that he used to be because he's just a really good actor. He's a good actor now.

I again, he's not going to win any Oscars, but he is a legitimate serviceable quality reliable actor now. And then seeing this picture again and watching the video and he says he's got two more months, he could probably put it on another 10, maybe another 15. And I think he's going to look good. They're going to have to cover up a lot of his, you know, you know, tattoos, good Filipino kid, good Filipino kid Dave Batista. But anyway, he looks great. I think he looks a lot better because Chris, I think it was totally rational for people to have a little bit of a fear, especially once again, when you saw, when you remember this picture from the Toronto Festival and how slimmed out, he had become. I think it was understandable that a lot of people were like, yeah, Dave Batista, but can he be Kratos anymore? He's not what he used to be in the WWE days, but I think it's looking pretty good. Chris, you've seen the pictures now. How are you feeling about Dave Batista as

Kratos now that we've had some time to think about it? And how are you feeling about these images we're seeing? Oh, no, I'm, you know, if there was anybody that was going to replace Ryan Hirst, when the Batista name came up because like you said, his acting abilities really shown over the last couple of years. And so that was the thing that most excited. I was like, okay, that could be a thing. And, you know, with makeup and stuff, if need be, maybe they could put a way to hide some of that padding to and knowing his previous comments where he's like, I just can't say in that shape, my body can't hold on to it. Nobody can. I mean, even we even see the rock slim down now, nowadays, right? Eventually, everybody's got to lean down and can't hold on. But I am curious what specifically about the Kratos character made him like, all right, this is probably my last chance to beef up my last things. And also, you got to think they probably want to do multiple seasons of this. There's a lot of worries they could tell. He knew he must have known that when signing on. You know, they could think of his, for years, he's campaigned to play the Gears of War character in movie. And maybe this is just what he saw as in like, if it's not Gears of War,

I mean, Kratos would be the next best thing. And that that'd be something that could be another big defining role in his career. So it is awesome to see that when that photo came out, just knowing how he had looked at the traditional film festival and just seen how, how quickly he gained it back to it feels like it's insane. And he said, still two more months, he's going to look awesome. So it's cool to see for David East, no doubt about it. And I'm just again wondering the longevity of it because he's already been open about don't want to do this to myself long term. But here he is, so I'd also like to be thinking that they have cool things planned for this if he's one to get into it. Yeah, and look, you point out a great observation. This wasn't, this isn't just one thing like, they're doing season, they're shooting season two back to back with it now on X, but guided schedule now because of all the delays with herst having to drop out of it. So it's going to see, but yeah, we, you were right. When you point out we've heard Dwayne Johnson talk about we've heard Hugh Jackman talk about it. We heard David Tisa. Listen, man, once you get into your 50s,

it, it becomes harder and harder and harder to maintain that kind of a physique that they're getting. And I, he's done it his whole life and I get it. But you know what, when the bell rings and you need to be craters, and then you, you'll pull out the dumbbells again. Anyway, guys, question is for you. What do you think about this? Dave Batista has kind of been answering the questions showing he's still got a couple of months to go, but he's getting himself back into fighting shape here. How are you feeling about Batista's casting now that we've had a chance to live with it for a little while? And what do you think about the images? Whatever you guys think, jump down into the comments section below and let us know your thoughts. All right, guys, with that down, let's move on to this. You know, one of the, the big stories in the movie world this year obviously is the Odyssey. And what a huge triumph it is. It's now passed one, one point five, five billion dollars at the box

office now. And by the way, guys, they just announced they're extending its iMac 70 millimeter run. They're going to extend it because they're still selling out a lot of the screenings, not all the yeah, but they're still selling out a lot of the screenings, which is, which is really interesting. Now, of course, one of the names that had a lot of people talking about being in it and played Sinan in the film is of course Elliott Page. And you would think coming off of a 1.5 billion dollar film that that would mean that the work must be rolling in. But according to Elliott Page, good Canadian kid, by the way, born in the same city that I was born in. Born in Elefax Nova Scotia. The same city I was born in, Elliott Page, but Elliott Page is saying he's not getting any offers. As a matter of fact, the headline in Variety reads Elliott Page is not really getting casting calls after the Odyssey. If somebody wants to call me, I'd love to do good work. The paragraph reads this, Elliott Page has never felt more comfortable on screen finding the right role, however, has proven to be more difficult. During his appearance in the on film with Kevin McCarthy podcast,

Elliott revealed he hasn't been able to find another great role after starring in the Odyssey, or any role, which hits theaters, which hit theaters in July. The actor revealed he's had he has no roles currently lined up. Now, as a matter of fact, when I go over and take a look at Page's IMDB page, the only thing he's got listed as upcoming is a voice in an animated film I've never heard of that currently doesn't have any other cast listed. And that's it. Now, we are talking about, I want us to remember, we are not talking about just some scrub. This is an award-winning actor, even at the Academy Awards, nominated for an Academy Award, is one multiple acting awards across the spectrum. And it's been in a lot of big projects worked multiple times with Christopher Nolan. So the question would have to come up. Why then would this award-winning Christopher Nolan

favorite not get any acting offers, especially after coming out of the Odyssey? Look, let me acknowledge right up front. This is an uncomfortable conversation. It just is. I'm like, I'm not, let me look at, we all know it, right? We all know it. So I might as well just say it. We all acknowledge this is a bit of an uncomfortable conversation. But it's one that needs to be brought up. And I have a theory. And I don't know that anybody's going to like my theory, but it is my theory nonetheless. And as I often say, it's often lonely being right, whether I'm right or wrong. I think the main reason that Elliott Page does not have more stuff lined up is because Elliott Page, I believe, is the new Tim Tebow. Now, for those of you who do not follow sports, Tim Tebow was a very popular Florida quarterback when national championships. I believe,

I believe Tebow won the Heisman trophy as well. Came into the NFL, add some success, even when a playoff game, if I'm not mistaken, but kind of then phased out. Here is the problem with Tim Tebow. And the problem that Tim Tebow ran into is that everywhere Tim Tebow went, it was a circus. It was an absolute circus because he would go to a team, be the backup quarterback. And every time the starting quarterback would throw one in completion, the entire stadiums would start chanting Tebow time, Tebow time, Tebow, Tebow, like calling for the quarterback to be benched. And well, I ever remember he got brought in Tim, Tim Tebow got brought in for workouts with the New England Patriots, not even trying, obviously not trying to replace Tom Brady as the starting quarterback wasn't even trying to be the backup quarterback. He got brought into compete for the third string quarterback role. And as one NFL analyst put it, Tim Tebow was good enough to be a

starting quarterback on one or two NFL teams, not not many of them. He was definitely good enough to be a backup quarterback on most teams. And he was absolutely good enough to be a third string quarterback on any team. But no team wanted the circus that came along with Tim Tebow. They just didn't want all that that circus environment that would come along. That would distract the team from what they were trying to do, all that kind of stuff. And so if Tim Tebow had been a bonafide superstar, it might have been different. But they just ultimately said we don't want the circus that comes with it. Well, let's look at Elliott Page. And by the way, all that had was none of Tim Tebow's fault. Oh, Tim Tebow just went out there and played football. In the same way, we come now to Elliott Page, who through no fault of his own, unfortunately, because of some less than the desirable elements

in our society, wherever Elliott goes, a circus is going to follow through no fault of Elliott's. And we saw that firsthand with the Odyssey. Because despite the fact that it was arguably the greatest filmmaker of our generation, arguably, despite the fact that it's this celebrated a tale all kind of stuff, the dark cancer-filled corners of the internet could do nothing, but talk about one black girl and two Elliott Page. So desperate to make up rage bait. They even made up this thing that Elliott was playing Achilles, which had no basis in fact. And just because it became fun. It became fun for them to say it because it was easy to rage bait on that. So they would made up this whole thing. And unfortunately, a lot of the attention wasn't on the movie going

into its release. It was on Elliott Page. And the circus is that created now. Now one might say, and rightfully so, well, John didn't seem to hurt the Odyssey because the Odyssey still made $1.5 billion and true enough, but not any other movie has the benefit of being a Christopher Nolan film, which insulated it from a lot of the other stuff. And my theory here, guys, is that I think there are filmmakers, particularly producers who sink years into trying to bring a project to fruition, and raise or spend tens, if not hundreds of millions of dollars into getting a thing made, and they're trying to make a product and they're trying to position it for the best chance of success. And they simply look at it and think, if I cast Elliott Page, it's just going to create a lot of circus around my film. And I'm not Christopher Nolan. And it's probably going to hurt my film

through no fault of Elliott Page's. And so yeah, especially coming out of a big hit like the Odyssey, I just think, and listen, listen, I don't, I don't fault the producers and I don't fault the studios of the filmmakers. Their number one responsibility has to be the film. The film, I don't fault anybody, any filmmaker for that. Your prior, you are not here to give opportunities to different, no, no, you're here to service the movie and to do what is best for the movie and to put the movie, especially as a producer, to put the movie in its best position for success. And unfortunately, because of some of the dark sides of our culture, I think the rationale is, if I'm a producer and I'm making this $50 million film, an Elliott Page is one of the potentials we have for the role. I can understand their apprehension to reach out or audition let alone cast

Elliott Page because it could bring that unwelcome shit storm with it. That again, a lot of the cancer elements of our society will want to bring along with it. And then the temptation then becomes to say, well, those producers should just have some balls and put Elliott in it every way. Oh, that's easy for you to say when it's not your money and it's not your career and it's not something that you've invested years of your life into and you desperately need to succeed. That's easy for like, I've said this before guys, every single person on earth is the world's foremost expert on how other people should spend their money. Absolute world class experts, everyone on how other people should spend their money. So, and so I get the temptation to say that, but I, at the end of the day, though, this just leaves it as a really sucky situation for Elliott Page. Again, an award-winning performer who has done nothing but deliver good work and has been in films that have had massive

success and yet through no fault of their own, but rather than the pettiness and small mindedness of some people in our culture has found themselves in this position and put the producers in this position as well. So that's my theory. I'm not saying that's good or bad. I'm not saying it's fair or unfair. I'm just saying that's the theory about why I think this situation is. Anyway, Chris, you look at this. We're going to talk about Gal Gadotna Minnit here who still ends up getting some work and yet somebody who could act absolute circles around. Not getting any. What was your first thought when you saw the headline and what theory do you have maybe about about why they're not getting the work maybe they deserve? Yeah, I don't want to dismiss all the points you brought up, John, because they're obvious real point elephant in the room stuff. You can't ignore and just hang your heads in the clown go, I have no idea why they wouldn't stuff, but I also attribute this to just being one of those enigma's of Hollywood where you could be a star or a big character in a large film and sometimes your career goes nowhere from that. I'm thinking of

some stars in recent years like a Miles Canton from from sinners. You look at his IMD page, nothing coming up, no work on it. And he was amazing in that movie and you would think he'd have tons of roles lining up. I remember whenever the live action Aladdin came out and the main star that I'm probably going to butcher their name. Yeah, the lead the lead kid. Yep. Miss out. Yeah, I believe that was a billion dollar film. Not like a very successful big decently well received compared to the live action movies and he came out months later saying like I haven't gotten any job offers. I haven't gotten anywhere. Yeah, I think I only ever saw him on some like romantic comedy with one of the girls from Riverdale on like one of the streamers was like the only thing. Meena, miss out. That's that's that was me. Yeah, I that's the the only thing I can remember seeing him in after that. Yeah. Yeah. And so he's clearly talented people and people's they do good work. But then there's nothing lined up for them or they can't get something and then yeah, other people like Indy never ready who I feel like I see her in headlines every other

week about she's in talks for heat too. She's going to star in this. We she's going to do that. And she's now in the MCU, which is great for her not saying not deserved it all. And it's just situations like that in Hollywood that sometimes unfortunately that's just you have to fight for your roles or you just have to wait until Hollywood has a role available for you on Elliott Page situation. I mean, there's there's other factors as well. I mean, he had a long career before Elliott Page. And I think some people just still see that as what he's capable of or sometimes also it's a situation of you can only play characters because you're trans so they can only hire you as trans characters or out of the norm. You don't you don't really know. And especially also in him in his interview, what is the role he's looking for? He could be getting offered things, but maybe he just sees them as things that don't align with what he'd want to do or what he's capable of. And so he could very well be passing up on stuff. So to me, definitely agree with the points you may, John, but I also just to be it's just one of those unfortunate facts of

Hollywood that you could be this star. You could be a name. And sometimes those roles just don't come along. Also, if you even take the the the trans aspect out of it as a performer, their options are a little bit more limited. I mean, Elliott is a small, dare I say petite got and there's just there's a limited number of roles, particularly bigger roles. There's a limited, very limited number of those for for people of that physical tie. And funny enough, those attributes you're mentioning actually benefited the role he played in the Odyssey. Like, oh, yes, that's an absolutely in the favor of it. But how many other roles out there for those specific needs are out there that need to be met, you know. Anyway, guys, question is for you. What do you think about this award winning actor Elliott Page coming off of a 1.5 billion biggest box office hit for an R rated film in history is simply saying they can't get any work.

And there are a lot of different theories for as to why I think mine's a pretty on the nose one, but maybe you have some others. Whatever you guys think, jump down to the comments section below. And let us know your thoughts. All right, guys, with that down, let's move on to this, shall we? You know, we just mentioned, I don't know why I didn't bring this up. I really should have. We were just mentioning Gal Gadot. And you know, Gal is one of these enigmas to me that is like, look, I don't think Gal is a good actress like Adol. I haven't thought that forever. I still don't think she's a very good actress. I haven't from day one. I still don't today. Now that being said, oh, damn it, Jonathan, I'm looking for that link that you sent me. And now I can't find it. Oh, email. Oh, email.

Oh, you emailed it to me. That's where it is. I'll go, I'll go put it up from there. But I am because I don't think she's a very good actress. It would be really. It would be a lot easier for me if I also just didn't like her. But damn, if if Gal Gadot is not one of simply the most likable people in Hollywood, like every time I watch your either an interview or at a fan event or in a podcast or whatever, I just I just wanted to be dumb because that makes it easier for me to not like her as an actress. But I find her to be incredibly charming, incredibly sharp, very smart, and extremely personable. And you can't help but really like her. And I'm like, damn it, I wish you were a good actor, but she's not. And as a result, you know, after being Wonder Woman and stuff like that, she hasn't got a lot to do. Well, she's got a new movie coming out.

Now, let's you be confused. There are two movies coming out with the name The Runner. We've got one with with Reacher and Owen Wilson that's coming out in theaters. And that's just runner. No, the just runner. And we've got this one now coming out on Amazon. The runner. And the reviews have dropped now for the runner to 9% 9% Now, just in case you guys haven't seen this or heard this stuff before, I don't know if I can play it, but Jonathan sent me a link to it. I've talked about this Instagram account before. The boss and Akis. I've seen it. And oh, I can't. I don't think I can get it would have to go to your computer computer. Yeah, I don't think I can play the audio for it. But Dear Heavens guys, if you guys get a chance, you should absolutely go and watch this again.

And watch her many videos on the acting of Gal Gadot. It is simply one of the greatest things I have ever seen on the internet. And again, I feel bad because it's kind of mean. And I really, really like Gal, but it is what it is. Anyway, let's go over and take a look at what some of the reviewers are saying about The Runner. McGuffin didn't like it. Said, my guess is that those that will enjoy this will do so in ways opposite to the film's intentions. The good folks over at Flickering MythRoute. It's as if this film is designed to highlight all of Gal Gadot's weaknesses as an actor. Now, the Hollywood reporter liked it. They said movies such as these are all about suspension of disbelief. And The Runner keeps a fast enough pace that we don't wind up asking too many questions. And that's the positive one. The Guardian did not like it. Intelligence might not be what one would expect here, which is somewhat acceptable in a B movie territory such as this.

But the lack of excitement is hard to forgive. Variety didn't like it. Said The Runner's slick design and technical contributions do not transcend the outward packaging for a pot boiler with scant substance beneath. Not much helping as Tom Hodges score. The percussive thrust of which sounds mostly driven by bonkones. Joe bloated like it. They said Gal Gadot goes all in and her physical effort shows. But The Runner is just not as strong as it could be, especially when it fails, when it falls into the familiar elements we have seen too many times, so many times before. Ready said he cut didn't like it said an embarrassing career low for Gal Gadot. The Runner is a flat amateur thriller that waste promising premise on cheap direction and zero suspense. And instead of going out, we'll just end off with IGN here says they didn't like it. Gal Gadot does everything she can to keep the runner well running, but despite some decent set pieces, the film is ultimately unsatisfying. And again, I remember watching the trailer for this guys. And it really was just

speed, but running. It's no down would she blow up? Yeah, I know. I guess you got to get to this place. Also a little bit of die hard three, a little die hard three. And there were you got to get here by this time. And she's running because that's why the movie is called The Runner. She's running the whole time, right? And but it's got the guy from billions. And the guy from oh, what was that? Why am I freezing on the name of the girl who played Juliet and Leonardo DiCaprio's Romeo and Juliet? And she was in Stardust. Yeah. The guys in the live chat. What was the name of that? What's her name again? And then she had this massive, massive huge hit Claire Danes. And then she had this huge, I think showtime hit where she was like working in the Middle East. And anyway, the guy was in that too. He got who was big in that. Then he was in billions and that homeland. He was in band of brothers

is where I first. Right. He was in band of brothers as well. So he's the co star in it. And it just look like a bad YouTube short video. Like like I'm like, how are you going to make this in Damien Lewis is the actor's name. Thank you guys in the live chat. It came up with that. Damien Lewis is the co star, which by the way, how do you have Damien Lewis who I believe, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he's one Emmys. Yeah, the very least has been nominated for Emmys. So Jonathan, maybe you can look that up for me if Damien Lewis is actually one any Emmys, but I think he did anyway at the very minimum, I know he was nominated. How do you have him in this? And he's not even on the poster. Yeah, literally have an award-winning actor in this thing and you don't have them on the poster. You do not highlight. You're just highlighting Gal Gadot who can't act. And again, it just kind of looks like this. Anyway, Chris, I know this is probably on your top five. Oh, the year. I mean, surprise reward winning. He is. And he did win. Okay. Yeah, I thought you'd have been a drama series

for Homeland, right? Was it for Homeland or what's the story? Billions. Okay. So anyway, Chris, what do you think about this when you're, any surprise when you're reading these? Honestly, no, from the trailer, it seemed like yeah, this definitely belongs straight to streaming. Really don't have much to say about it. It's not a movie. I'm going to be rushing to check out or sit down and watch. Even the ones that are like, I know probably won't be a good time. And it's rare to just want to put on something from Mr. I'd like to know the stats of like between the streaming services, especially with Prime. In terms of movies that get well received and people actually watch with Gal Gadot, it's an interesting case because I mean, she's Wonder Woman and that definitely catapult turned, made her a familiar face to where there's a comfort in watching her face on a thumbnail of like a stream. I'm like, I'll pop that on that might be decent. And no, even the audiences, I was going through some of the audience reviews as you were going there. And yeah, people were not happy with this.

I really don't have much else to say. Yeah, I again, I just, it's unfortunate. It is, it is what is because I mean, I remember thinking, I remember when she was going to start, they now she was going to start in death on the Nile. And I'm like, okay, you're working with Kenneth Brawna, you're going to have an incredible cast around you. Chris Pine in the Wonder Woman films was able to elevate her a little bit like when she was without Chris Pine, you can really notice it. But and I thought that, I thought death on the Nile was like the opportunity. That was the opportunity to really show that you could step forward, that you can make some real gains, that you can grow, that you can be better and all that kind of stuff. And she was terrible in that movie, man. She was terrible in it. And she's not so much acting as pretending. Yeah. And not well. And not well. By the way, that, that, that, that Instagram girl, when she does, when she does

Gal Gadot from white, pretty spot on, no white stuff is so, so spot it. Yeah. So bad. Oh, and again, it sucks. Cause I think there wouldn't be anybody in this business that I would cheer for as much as her because again, every damn thing I keep waiting for her to be stupid. And she's just not. She's charming and she's delightful and she seems incredibly likable. And I, I, oh, man, I wish she could have turned developed into something bigger. Anyway, guys, question is for you. What do you think about this? Gal Gadot's new movie The Runner, not to be confused with just runner, which also does not look any good at all. That other one without enriching in Owen Wilson. That does not, that looks worse to be honest with you. But I love both those guys. But what do you think about surprise to see these reviews? Whatever you guys think, jump on down in the comments section below and let me know your thoughts. All right, guys.

With that down, we thought we would play ourselves a little game today of overreaction. The way overreaction works is really simple. We jumped onto the YouTube channel a little bit earlier and we asked you guys in the community tab to send in some of your hottest of hot takes. We gathered up some of your hot takes. Jonathan's got them all gathered up in front of him there. He's going to go through them and then Chris and I will adjudicate whether your hot take is an overreaction or not an overreaction. So Jonathan, what do we got up first? All right, Chris, we're going to start with you. Well, the pace comes from Corbin's video page. Is this an overreaction obsession? Will be nominated for best picture by the Academy? I actually don't think it is an overreaction. I'm starting to see it more and more. I think it all obviously not happened. But I just, I think the Oscar sometimes also about acknowledging culture impact and you can't deny what the obsession has done this year. And again, it's been months now. It's still a topic of headline. Sometimes for good or bad, you know, with the case you talked about yesterday with them being

sued, but it's still and now they're pushing for that Oscar campaign. I don't know how well the Andy Richter campaign's going to go for them. But aside from that, I could see it happening. Yeah, I'm going to definitively say this is not an overreaction. As a matter of fact, I expect it to be nominated for it. Now, great. If we were still living in the era where the Academy only nominated five films instead of 10, then it might be an overreaction. But it's going to get there. And you know what? Here's the best part. The best part is I don't think it's going to get there because it was a surprise hit. I think it's going to get there because it deserves it. I really do think it is one of the, I think it will end up being one of the 10 best films of the year. Now, once I see the rest of the films that are coming out this year, maybe I'll change my mind. But right now in a vacuum, I think it's a film that deserves to be nominated for best picture. I ain't going to win nor should it. But I think it's in a universe where we get 10 nominees. I absolutely think it's going to get it. So I'm going to call this one

not an overreaction. All right. Jonathan, what do we got up next? All right. We got a must team here. Is this an overreaction, John? Avengers Doomsday would not have as much hype as it has now if any other actor was playing Dooms Besides Robert Downey Jr. Absolutely not an overreaction. Listen, I remember that we had this big debate and I kept having to slap my heads because words, the English language matters. And I remember when they cast Robert Downey Jr. Not everybody had to like the casting. That's fine. There's, I think there's some legitimate concerns to have about the casting of Robert Downey Jr. as Dr. Doom. Absolutely. But I remember I would get into these big debates with people who called the casting desperate. And I'm like, are you literate? Like do you understand the English language? Do you know what desperate me? Desperate is when you have no good options and you have to go with an unlikely to work

probably going to fail bad option because it's the only option you have. That's what desperate is. Going to your number one superstar who the fans love to see in the universe and would make the audience go crazy. You may think is a bad idea and that's fair. But you're just a literate if you call it a desperate idea because it's one that was clearly going to work. At least in terms of getting the audience and the juices going and the excitement building and the hype mounting. And absolutely look. Chris, I do think that even if they cast somebody else's Dr. Doom, would the world be excited about Avengers Doomsday? Yes. But the question is, would it be as hyped if it was somebody other than Robert Jr. and the answer to that is no. No, for good or for ill, whether it works out or not, we'll find out when we actually see the movie.

But this was a stroka genius and the reaction to it, the way it exploded online and everybody talked about it. Yeah, it is, it is not an overreaction. It might not be a good idea, but it's not an overreaction to say that there wouldn't be as much hype as it was if it was anybody other than Robert Downey Jr. I don't know Chris. How do you see it? Yeah, I'm going to pull out of a devil's advocate here and say it is no reaction because I don't know if I'd use the word hype as much more than intrigue or curiosity. I think we would still have a level of hype and excitement and wanting to see this. I think just doom in itself. I remember the 30 seconds when we found out it was doom and then we found out it was our DJ. That hype was there. That excitement was there. Everybody's like, oh my God. Now that's a big bad we can get behind instead of this gang. It was there and then the RDJ turned it into like, oh, now I wonder how that'll play. So to be I think it would have this hype. I think it's a more question of like, it's a curiosity now in an intrigue, but you're not wrong for thinking the way you are, John.

All right. What do we got up next? All right, Chris. We're going to stick with you. Is this an overreaction from William Crook? Lanterns is better than anything than any MCU Disney show. As much as I'm loving lanterns right now, I think for now, I'm going to have to say it's an overreaction three episodes in. I remember even not saying that it was anywhere near, but I remember even liking first two episodes into secret invasion, but I was not ready for the whiplash I had when that's that show finally came to a close and how awful as it wholly came out. So not saying it will, but lanterns could still, you know, poop the bed in these next couple of episodes. It could get progressively worse. Three episodes in. It's definitely up there to me as good, but I don't know if I could say it is better than anything. The MCU has done yet. Yeah. Look, I am all on I'm all in on lanterns. I think this show is brilliant so far.

And Chris, you raised the billion dollar point. We're only three episodes in. And listen, I've seen a lot of shows that start off great with one or two, sometimes three episodes and then like go off the cliff. Disney plus shows, Marvel Disney plus shows, bottom and guilty of that. But three episodes in. I can't sit here and say that this is better than one division. Now, do I think it has the potential if it keeps up this clip to be better than anything that Marvel has put out on Disney plus. Yeah, it has the potential, but three up not even halfway through the season. I think it's way premature to say that. So maybe we can ask the question again in about five or six weeks, but for right now, I'm going to have to go along with Chris and I'm going to agree that that's for now. That's an overreaction. All right, Jonathan. What do we got next? All right, John, is this an overreaction? We'll hear from PG. Sadie Sink is the biggest star

to come from Stranger Things. That's an overreaction. That's a that's a that's a big overreaction because what has she done since Stranger Things? I mean, she was a third or fourth cast list member of a huge Spider-Man film and she was great at it. I thought she was wonderful in it. And then she's done a couple of little small things. Now, could she be? Could she end up being the biggest star to come out of Stranger Things? Oh, yeah. Yeah, that can happen. 100%. But as of right now, and I'm sorry, I'm freezing on 11's name. Millie Bobby Brown. Millie Bobby Brown. Like I'm sorry, but as of right now, Millie Bobby Brown is clearly had the biggest and most successful career out of anybody coming out of Stranger Things so far. By the way, David Harbricht. And that should be in that car position too. Yeah, definitely. And also for speaking musically, there are a couple of people that have bands. Gosh, I can't remember his name now, but he was the the oldest guy.

Steve, he played Steve, right? Yeah, his band is huge. Like they sell out the Greek theater. So if you're talking musically, he's a big star then, you know, yeah. I think I think they mean acting wise though. I mean, so no what they're talking about. So yeah, look, I think you gotta say, I think right now it's it's it's not even really close. Put the resumes beside each other right now. Put the post Stranger Things resumes beside each other right now. Millie Bobby Brown is the bigger star. But let's ask that question again in two years. Sure. And that could totally be different because I'll be honest. I think Sadie sinks the better actress. I do like no hate intended for Millie Bobby Brown. I but I think Sadie sink is the better actress. And so I think she will be, but right now, I think it's an overreaction to say she is currently the biggest star to come out of Stranger Things because that's that's clear that crown clearly belongs. I think at any rate,

Tim Millie Bobby Brown. Chris, what do you think? No, yeah. When I saw that question, I was I thought I thought big overreaction as well because it's she was great in Spider-Man and it's a big film and she's definitely on the path to having a pretty nice career and it's the conversation we could better have like five seven years, right? But also even then as I started thinking, well, who do I consider then the biggest star if not Sadie as a right now? And I think it really depends on your metric of what startup is. I understand why you would say Millie Bobby Brown. But you know, a lot of her startups have been straight to streaming stuff and then you look at someone like Finn Wolfhard, who's had a lot of theatrical films that he's been in big IP films from the IV franchise Ghostbusters and he even just I think co-directed a movie now and like then you have David Harbor, who's also some of Joseph Quinn. Fantastic. Fantastic. Joseph Fantastic for me. So it's like there's actually I think there's a real debate you could have about who it is and I wouldn't put Sadie's sink up there just yet. All right, we got time for

one more here, Jonathan. What's our last one? We're in luck because we got one more. Chris, is this an overreaction from Anthony Hernandez? Doom 3 first weekend box office will outgrow the Odyssey's first weekend box office. Yeah, I don't I don't think that's a no-reaction. Yeah, opening was 123 and June part two, I think had 85 opening weekend. See, it's stuff because with a third film, the trajectory could go either way in terms of like a little bit more, maybe even a little bit less. So, but I don't think it is an overreaction. There's a lot of high buildup, but there are some factors going against it like with the Doom's day. That's just it's just going to eat away at it, whether we like it or not. And but I don't think it's an overreaction, I'm say. I'm going to say as somebody who doon 3 is easily all due respect to everything else, doon 3 is easily my most anticipated film of the year. I think this is an overreaction because

we're asking doon 3 to jump 50% more than 50% of its doom 2 opening weekend. That's a big ask. Now, granted, it's going to be writing some of that doon's day momentum 100%. It's going to be writing that I max momentum because it's got it's sold out all of its I max screenings and stuff like that. That's going to be a part. I think doon part 3 will absolutely have a bigger opening weekend than doon part 2 did. I think we're going to see that. But to jump more than 50% and to make over 125 million, which is the neighborhood that the Odyssey came in. I think doon 3 will be the better film. I think it's the film I'm looking forward to the most. But it also is what it is. I would love guys to sit here on December 20th and say see the opening weekend box

office numbers and find out I was wrong. I would love I would love to see doon 3 coming with like 130 million dollar opening. But again, that's just too big of a jump over what part 2 was. And part 2 was already a jump from part 1. So I'm going to say it having a bigger opening weekend. Again, I think it'll be the better film. But it having a bigger opening weekend. The Odyssey, I'm going to sit on that. So that's an overreaction. All right guys. And that will wrap up today's session of overreaction. Thank you so much to everybody who sent in your hot takes for us to adjudicate appreciate that. Keep your eyes open on the YouTube channel for the next time we put out a call for submissions. And maybe you'll see your hot take featured on the next round of over reaction. All right guys, with that down, let's move on to this. Well, obviously we were just talking about Avengers, a doomsday. And something kind of big came up at least on the surface

in some headlines recently. You've probably seen a lot of people talking about how did you hear that they didn't even have a script for doomsday when they started shooting. Did you hear they had no script, which was a course preposterous. But but then some mother feels they will I heard they didn't even have a finish script by the time they started shooting well. A lot of credibility just got given to that by the directors themselves. As this written in variety, Avengers doomsday shot without a finished script. But co director Joe Russo says we always view the screenplay as a living organism. This is what they wrote over there. Avengers doomsday going into production without a finished script did not phase directors Joe and Anthony Russo as the former recently told the Associated Press were always view the script as a living organism. We are improvisation based rehearsal based directors Joe maintained. We like to see what the actors bring to the characters and sometimes you don't get the actors until a few days or a few weeks before you shoot them. And a lot of time that's when the magic happens. All right. Now a lot of this is not completely

surprising because I mean when you look at Joe and Anthony Russo's background, I mean these this came out of community. All right. Like everything that they're describing is exactly something that would come out of community. You know where it would be rehearsal based all that kind of stuff really seeing when you get the characters who are the actors who are the stewards of their characters come in and nobody knows those characters better than the actors do so they come in and throw their stuff in on their stuff. I totally totally get it. I really do. But here's the thing as we as movie fans often do we take a crumb of truth and bake it into a loaf of nonsense. The crumb of truth here is that yes there were incomplete parts of the script. The loaf of nonsense is this notion that they didn't know where the movie was going or they didn't have a script. Guys be very, very clear about this.

When they say they're improvisational and they're working with the actors, it's not like they didn't know what was going to happen. Well gosh, I mean we weren't going to have Chris Evans come back as Captain America. But then we were ad-libbing this scene between the work-adons and the fantastic four. One of the actors just said, well you know we just recently met Steve Rogers and then the Rousseau's went what? Oh my gosh, I guess we can only million dollars. I guess we gotta go around get Chris Evans to come back now. Like when people read that they create this vision in their head about like, well let's just show up with the cameras and then we'll figure out what the movie does. Guys listen, I have been on set of Marvel movies. Okay, a couple of them at any rate. I have been on set of a bunch of different movies too. And when they talk about incomplete script, believe it when I tell you that they had every single plot detail all mapped out. They knew exactly

what was coming next. They know exactly what happens in the next scene and they know exactly how the film ends. All that is clearly laid out in the outline. All right, the first drafts of it, that's all there. When they talk about an incomplete complete script, they're talking about fog of war dialogue. When I say fog of war, those of you who've played warcraft, you know what I'm talking about or any types of games like that. Fog of war is okay. There's a section of the map that you can't quite see yet. That's fine. But they know the map is there. They know where the story is going. They just don't know exactly how the dialogue is going to work out in the scene. That's all. And for guys coming out of a background like community, what they like to do in coming up with that dialogue is they tend to have a preference to try to come up with it organically. So they'll have an idea. We know, hey, this scene, the point is this. It's got to end at this point that's going to lead into this other thing. So let's go. And they're simply doing some improvisation of the

dialogue. This is not an issue of that they didn't know what was going to happen in the story. It's not an issue that they didn't know what comes up next. It's not an issue of they started filming without even knowing how the movie ends. It is exclusively and only about some fog of war dialogue. It's about letting the actors improvise some dialogue and come up with some banter. Had nothing to do with the story. Had nothing to do with the narrative. Has nothing to do with the main anchor points throughout the movie. It just has to do with some of the interaction in the dialogue. Now, look, as a fan, am I more comfortable thinking that you have an absolutely buttoned up ready to go word for word punctuation and all finished script? Yes, I'm more comfortable with that. But for guys who come out of a background like something like community like the Rousseau's, if that's how they like to use their actors and when you have actors like a Chris Evans, like a Chris Hemsworth, you have an actor like a Florence Pugh

or an actor like Robert Downey Jr. You give them a little bit of wiggle room to get in their play around a little bit and and see what works and see what sticks. So listen, I just think this is being made a much bigger issue out of than it actually is. And so yeah, I think the headline is right. They started filming without by the definition completed script. But the outline was completed. All the scenes were structured. They knew exactly where everything was going. They just were letting the actors improvise some of what the dialogue is going to be. And that's about it. Anyway, Chris, you read this headline. It's not what I'm comfortable with. I'm not comfortable with that approach and filmmaking, but they're the directors that they got to do what's right for them. What is it you've heard the most coming out of this? What was your first impression when you heard about it and what's your take on this overall? Yeah, well, like most as you see the headline and then you get the immediate scare because you go, oh, that's a red flag. It's not showing good. It's not a completed script. But then you actually click the article. You read the details and

went from fear to oh, okay, I kind of intriguing me that if anything, I like this collaboration process that the Rousseau's do because like you were mentioned, you have a lot of great actors at the helm and the big thing with Doomsday is a lot of veteran actors in these roles. And to allow them to give them that sort of input into how they feel a character with their character would respond, what they would say or something. I think does lend for more natural performance, a more true to character performance in in there. And so yeah, just like you said, all the important key story details are locked down and they're not just making it up as they go. To me also, you know, I think some people bring this up because James Gunn was kind of adamant whenever with his DCU about like, well, we have finished scripts and not like we did it over there. And so this like also opened doors in credibility. I'm like, oh, I guess James Gunn is telling truth about the way they do things. But it's a it's a it's a former process that they do that they work best for the Russo brothers. So yeah, it's one of the situations. I don't think it is to worry all too much about. But I mean, we've seen it all in the other situations where this type of

improvisation maybe does get out of whack. I remember one of the early rumors was with the Phil Lord and Chris Miller with the Han Solo movie. I remember one of the earlier reports was like the too much improvisation and and and Star Wars. I was very strict on like, you know, you can't just say, well, the only things like we have a set universe and things. So I remember that was one of the times where it was like a lot of improvisation didn't work out well for them. But in this situation, I didn't see this too much to worry about. Another great example of that too is John Fabros first Iron Man movie. Right. Like with the first Iron Man, he just knew he wanted to get in the room with Robert Downey Jr. and just let Robert Downey Jr.'s personality come out and let that kind of be a partner. Now again, it's not what I'm comfortable with. And it's only something I think you can really do when you have the guys in the director chairs who have already done Civil War, Winter Soldier, Infinity War,

and Game with actors. They have a easy second hand with working with guys like Chris Evans, guys like Chris, Chris Hemsworth, guys like Robert Downey Jr. And you have a room of that caliber of people. I think you can only do it in these types of situations. And again, they did have a script, guys. They wouldn't even know where to go to shoot if they didn't have a script. They 100% had a script 100% that was totally laid out. It just was some gaps left in there for dialogue improvisation. But again, it's not what I'm comfortable with. And I think if the movie sucks, which I don't think it will. But if the movie sucks, this is a big piece of meat. They're just giving everybody to feed on, right? Like if we get to December 18th and we're all coming out of the movie theater, like people coming out of the, oh, what was the name of that damn Star Wars movie now?

Not the Force Awakens, the Phantom Menace. Like I remember, yeah, I remember people coming out of that movie theater, taking off their Jedi robes. This, I mean, this was all of the news, taking off their Jedi robes and burning them on the sidewalk. I mean, let's say that's what happens with Doomsday, right? Like everybody, everybody hates Doomsday. It's terrible, right? Again, I don't think that's going to happen. But if it does, this became a, this just became a big target for everybody to point at and say, well, it's Russo brothers fault for not going in with an absolutely buttoned up dialogue and, and all the script yet. So I mean, I don't know. Again, I'm not going to panic about it because it is the Russo brothers. It is these actors. They all have shorthand with each other. They all know what they're doing. And it's just dialogue. So we'll, they, what they've done has worked. So we'll see. Anyway, guys, question is for you. What do you think about this? Apparently,

contrary to what James Gunn wants to do with just going to every project with don't even announce a project until you have a completed script, there were so brothers, they knew the story. They knew exactly what was going to happen in the movie, but they left some gaps in there with a kind of an incomplete script and started shooting with it, work with their actors to improvise a little bit. Do you think that's the right move? Do you think they're going to have success with it? Are you really worried about it? Are you not worried about it at all? Whatever you guys think, jump down to the comments section below and let us know your thoughts. And all right, guys, that wraps up all the topics that we have. So it's time for us to move into the main part of our show, which is of course taking your live comments and questions. But before we do that, we're going to bid good afternoon to the man that bit the legend 3C films himself, Chris Parker. Chris, thanks again for being here. Man, great. As always, we're talking next week. Yeah, big pleasure. See you guys then. And of course, our technical director, Jonathan Voiko, Jonathan, we'll talk to you tomorrow. One more day to Friday. See you guys tomorrow.

All right, guys, with that all down and said, let's now move on and start taking your live comments and questions. Now, just so you know, I have indeed turned off the super chats. I should have turned them off earlier because a hell of a lot of super chats came in. So let me just make sure I've got them all loaded up here. Give me one moment and we'll be ready to roll. And roll. We shall. Okay, let's get things kicked off here. And we are kicking things off here with harsh who writes knowing that Ann is a potterhead. What was her reaction to the new HBO Harry Potter trailer? She loved it. A long time viewer from India. Thank you so much, man. Please carry on for years. Yeah, I mean, I sent her. She leaves for work at like seven in the morning. So I sent her the link to the Potter thing, but she got home. And I'm like, what do you think of the potter trailer? She goes, I didn't want to watch it on my phone. I want to watch it on our TV. Like great. So we sat down and watched it. She loved it. I loved it. I mean, yeah, it was just a great trailer. And she, as a potterhead, she really, really enjoyed it. So thank you for asking. Harsh, appreciate that.

Mitch's Geek Corner writes, what's your favorite scene in Man of Steel? Oh, oh, one of two. And oh, it just totally self-procrast. Favorite scene in Man of Steel? I mean, I obviously, I think Man of Steel is a masterpiece of the comic book genre. I love the movie. I think it's gotta be the one I'm always quoting. Like one of, I mean, I could sit here and list 20 that are among my favorites. Like, like when Zod makes the mistake to threaten Clark's mom, big mistake. Anyway, but I honestly think one of the greatest, the greatest scene in the movie. And I think one of the great, one of the greatest scenes in any comic book movie is young Clark saying, can we just keep pretending I'm your son and Kevin Costner, who gives a hell of a performance, takes him in his arms and says, you are my son. I like, I still get choked up just thinking about that. So that's my favorite scene in that movie. Mitch also writes, do you think we will ever get an Avengers versus X-Men movie?

Ever it's whenever you ask a question that uses the word ever in it, you almost by default have to say yes. I don't think any time in the next five years, but if you say ever, well, you have to go with the odds and say yes. I mean, I'm not expecting one anytime soon, but ever somebody at some point probably will take a swing at it, Mitch. All right, the refugee and sends in a $20 super chat. Thank you, refugee. And appreciate that, man. And the refugee and rights, so one of my favorite user names, by the way, Hey, John, don't directors operate under their own business and can work with any studio on a case by case. Yes. So why was it a big deal about Christopher Nolan leaving WB if directors can work with different studios? I think look because like anybody else, you tend to work with who you're comfortable with, right? Christopher Nolan, while not under any exclusive contract to Warner Brothers, he liked to work with Warner Brothers.

He had a standing relationship with them. He had good experiences making their films and they had success. Not to mention Warner Brothers gave him his first real big break by giving him Batman, right? By giving him the Dark Knight rises or giving him Batman begins, I should say. And it just, that's just where he chose to make his movies with. And so when under the previous owner of Warner Brothers, which was 18 to remember, this is before David Zazlav and before the new ownership that's there currently, they made the world's stupidest decision and decided to day and date all the movies on straight to streaming and that pissed off all the filmmakers including Christopher Nolan. He said, I'm not working with Warner Brothers again. Not working with Warner Brothers again. And now then he went to Universal and guess what, they made Obinheimer. So now he's not obligated to work with Universal, but he, look, I've had success and

they are good to work with. So he likes working with Universal. That doesn't mean he's not going to make films with other studios. Doesn't mean he won't make another movie with Warner Brothers sometime. But right now he likes making movies with Universal. So that's why you kind of see that with him. But yeah, different directors, you can see the work with different studios all the time. All right. Good question, Refugee. Sir Z writes, Don John, Kudos to you for handing the Magneto question with diplomacy. Seems like those with agendas are trying to trip you up. No three three foot Canadian has issue with a six foot Aussie playing Wolverine much love. Yeah. Again, I, I, I really don't understand people who are so desperate. And these are my fellow fans. I just don't understand a lot of my fellow fans. So desperate to sacrifice a fundamental core piece of who and what Magneto is by giving him superpowers that aren't a part of his character and has never been a part of his character. All to maintain some small historical detail about him. Like I just don't get it. Like,

why are you trying to move heaven and earth to maintain a historical detail about him? You know, it reminds me of this. I thought about this to the other day. The Holocaust is not pivotal to Magneto. In the sense, because number one, it was never a part of his origin story. That wasn't something that they just kind of changed and threw in their decades after Magneto had already been around. Like, remember, that part of his story was never even introduced until 1981. They even changed it after that. And then after that changed it back. But here's a good comparison. The Holocaust isn't really what's important in the background of Magneto's character. What is important, what shapes the character, was whichever human atrocity it was, that a young Magneto experienced the horrors of the worst kind of human atrocity.

Now, at the time, the time appropriate one to do that, the appropriate timing at the time when they came up with it, was the World War II incident. That was good timing. That work, that fit. So they use that as the human atrocity that shaped the way Magneto then saw the world. Think of it like Batman. What is important to understanding Batman is not if Joe Chil shot his parents in the alleyway. That's not important. It's not important that Joe Chil shot his parents. What is important is that Bruce witnessed his parents murdered in front of the Minadark alley. That's the important part. It's not whether it was Joe Chil. It doesn't matter if it was just some remember that it's changed in the comic books. A number of times,

who it is that shot him. What sometimes it was just a random mugger representing that the crime of Gotham had really taken over and it was just some random guy. For much of many of the Batman iterations, it was just some unnamed random faceless guy in a random act of violence. For many iterations, they created a character named Joe Chil. And then Joe Chil's motivations have also been changed. Sometimes Joe Chil was just that random guy in a random act of violence. Sometimes Joe Chil was a part of an organized hit. So even the meaning behind the Wayne's murder has changed, right? Sometimes it was just a random mugging. Sometimes it was a part of an overall crime family hit. So that's changed. Sometimes like in Tim Burton's movie, it was the Joker. It was Jack. Who killed his parents? Have a dance with the devil in the pale moonlight. The thing is none of that's important to Batman. Doesn't matter if it was the Joker that killed his

parents. It doesn't matter if it was a faceless mugger that killed his parents. It doesn't matter if it was Joe Chil that killed his parents. It doesn't matter if it was just a random act of violence to kill his parents. Doesn't matter if it was a part of an organized crime hit that killed his parents. They've changed it all the time. What was important was that the thing that created and formed who Bruce was was just that he witnessed his parents murdered in front of him in that dark alley. Why doesn't matter? Who did it? Doesn't matter. You can interchange all those and you're still left with the core meaning. Same as true of Magneto. It doesn't matter which horrible human atrocity that Magneto had to go through that turned his heart against humanity. It's just important that he goes through as a kid some horrible tragic human atrocity. When they created it, World War II was the good fitting thing. That doesn't fit today in 2026 because Magneto would have to be a hundred years old. You come up with a different era. It's not important

just like who shot Bruce's parents is important. Anyway, I'll just leave it at that. All right. Next up. Let's see where we at here. We're at a manual who writes rumors are circulating that Maximo was just a codename and Adria Arzona will in fact be Wonder Woman and Man of Tomorrow. Well, that's been the rumor since the day they announced her. That's nothing new. That's nothing new. Making an appearance similar to Supergirls and Superman. Hopefully it's true. I hope it's not true. I mean, don't get me wrong. I'm totally fine with Arzona who is fantastic playing Wonder Woman. Totally fine with that. I love the idea of her being Maxima. Love it. I look. I'll be totally happy if she's playing Wonder Woman. Hell, I'll be totally happy if she's playing Barbara Gordon. I mean, I don't care. The thing is Arzona is such a good actress. Again, go watch her in Andor man.

She's such a good actress and she's got that new Thomas Crown affair coming out too with Michael B. Jordan that she looks really good in. So that's fine. But I'm actually I'm not gonna lie to you. I'm more excited about the idea of her being Maxima. But yeah, it's not these aren't new rumors. Those were rumors. By the way, they're unfounded rumors. But those were rumors circulating the day they announced the day they announced those rumors have been around like this. So this isn't anything new. It's been around. Could it be true? Yeah, I mean, I think she will end up being Maxima, but I'm not gonna put any money on that. I think it's totally possible that she's gonna play Wonder Woman as well. I think that's a possibility. But I kind of hope she's Maxima because that's a left-field curveball man. And I think I think she'd be great as Maxima. Again, will it also be totally happy chance of being Wonder Woman? So we'll see. All right. Thanks for that, Emanuel. Next up, the Refugee Senses in another $20 to which I thank you so much, man. And the Refugee writes, Street Fighter sure looks a bit more cartoony than Mortal Kombat 1 and 2, but looks like they

learn the lessons from Mortal Kombat 1 and are leaning into the fights and competition, which could be a lot of fun, curious in your thoughts. I think the movie looks like garbage. That's my thought. I think Street Fighter looks like absolute kindergarten level garbage. That being said, I thought the same thing for Harley Quinn. How did that turn out? Today, I passionately love Harley Quinn. That's what I thought about peacemaker before it came out. How did that turn out? I love peacemaker. And for both of those, I thought they looked like juvenile kindergarten intellect level total trip garbage on the level of owl my balls. Some of you will get that reference. Some of you will not. But yeah, Street Fighter looks like it's on the level of ouch my balls. But I thought that before about some things that

I ended up loving. And you look, I as much as awful as I think the movie looks. It's got some of my favorite people in it. It's got some people in it I really like. And so I'm going to cheer for it. I'm going to cheer for it. And we'll see. We'll see what happens there. All right, thanks to that Refugee. And thank you again for supporting us on that level, man. This is really generous of you. Yeah, cove writes. What happened to the versus game on the show? It's still there. We just I just like the question. I just prefer the questions that we get from people when we make it overreaction or what's more likely. I just thought I just found that we got more interesting submissions when we did those. We will still versus will come up again versus will come up again at some point. All right, Thomas P writes. Wonder man, Spider-Man Noir, oh, I'm I keep I forget about Spider-Man Noir, man. I really like Spider-Man Noir. Anyway,

and lanterns all great. Do you think good doesn't cut it anymore? I mean, born again season two, it was more Matt versus Fisk. Nothing new. What do you think the reason for low viewership? Daredevil was never popular. Daredevil was never popular. I think, you know, I've talked about this before as great as the Netflix Daredevil was back in the day. I think we all overestimated how many people actually watched it. And yeah, Daredevil born again season one and two. I think is great. I mean, yeah, you can say, oh, it's just him fighting Fisk again. Who cares if it's great? I mean, what do you say about breaking bad? Just Walt cooking drugs again. Same as the other seasons. Yeah, if you want to oversimplify it,

like that, I guess you could put it that way. Just Walt cooking again, same thing, right? So, I mean, yes, it's Matt versus Fisk. But it was great. I really think they've done a great job with born again season one and two almost to the same levels they did with Netflix. But I really just think ultimately Daredevil was never as popular as a character as we all kind of imagined it was. So I don't know. I mean, that's just a theory. I could be, I don't know that definitively. That's just my theory. But yeah, never know. And by the way, Wonderman didn't have big numbers either. Wonderman did not have big numbers. It's one of the best shows of the year, but it didn't have great numbers. So let's not pretend like it did. It didn't. So yeah, we'll see. All right. Good question, though, Thomas. Next up, Christopher Brickner writes, I like the last Doomsday trailer, confirmed the Fantastic Four have known Dooms for years. I like Dooms having history with the

Fantastic Four before he became a villain. Yeah, I think I think that's good. But again, the intro, the very first act, the first half of the first act, the first half of the first half of the first act of Doomsday is going to totally establish that the Fantastic Four and Victor have a relationship. I don't want to say too much, but it's it's yes. And it all ties into, by the way, the post credit scene of Fantastic Four when Sue comes back into the room and Dooms there with Franklin, it picked that will get picked picked up. That will get picked up as well. So, but yes, I'm glad that the trailer kind of makes that definitive that he clearly knows Victor, like they're on a first name, by the way, that scene in that trailer. Oh, when reads yelling at him, oh, that's powerful stuff. That's powerful stuff. All right. Next up, Christopher also writes, to me, the best part of the

last Doomsday trailer was read Richards confronting Dr. Doom and screaming, answer me, Victor, did you do this? I know it's it's it's powerful dramatic stuff. And when you see it in context of the movie, it's going to be even more powerful. It that scene's going to be even more powerful. All right. Thanks to that, Christopher. Team Cabuzzles writes, one of two, hey, John, last week, I bought Avengers. Oh, end game on court tickets for IMAX. Synaplex canceled the show time and is refunded due to scheduling weekend IMAX now sold out. Oh, that sucks. I know IMAX dictates what goes on screens, but how can a company sell tickets for something they don't have a contract for any ideas? I don't think that was the case. I really do think schedules got moved. I think something happened schedules got moved. It's not a matter of synoplex isn't going to sell tickets to something they don't have the right to sell tickets to. All right. I have my criticisms of synoplex.

Believe me, I have my criticisms of synoplex. But they're not going to just sell tickets to something they don't have the right to sell. Clearly, there was a changing of a direction that they and IMAX wanted to go something changed and to accommodate that change, they had to cancel the screening. I've had screenings canceled. It happens very, very, very rarely in movie going, but it does happen where they just sometimes decide to make a programming change and they refund the tickets and they move on. So it sucks when it happens, but it does happen from time to time. All right. Sorry that happened to team caboosals. All right. Next up, Brennan sends in a $20 super chat. Thank you, Brennan. And Brennan writes, what do you think about the fact that Flanagan said the clay face script changed so much as basically not his pitch script and that he doesn't consider himself the writer of the movie anymore. It doesn't concern you. I don't know that he's actually said that. Okay. So let me, let me be very clear. I'm saying I don't know, but I've seen

some places suggest that. And then when I looked up the actual quote, that wasn't what he was actually saying. Now, you could be referring to something else or some other interview, but again, I've seen over the past couple of months, some people like say that Flanagan said this. I'm like, really? And then when I went and read the actual thing that he said, it didn't line up with what they were presenting. Again, that's not to say that you didn't read something different. Maybe, yes, maybe no. But like to me, it's just a matter of writers can be kind of prissy. And I say that knowing a number of writers who have called themselves that, okay, just to be clear. In the sense like, like, George R. Martin, right? Like, George R. Martin recently went on a big hissy fit talking about night of the stuff. I think it was night of the seven kingdoms. Yeah,

night of the seven kingdoms. When I was in night of seven kings, when was it? House of the dragon, but at any rate, he went off on this big thing a long time. It's not this isn't even my thing anymore. And then ultimately when you found out what it was, they changed. It was really rather minor, but he threw, he got his like little boxers all stuffed up his pucker hole with a pencil and got all sissy about it. It's not even my thing. And it was like a minor change. So look, number one, I don't even know that that's what Mike Lannigan actually said. I'm saying I don't know, but the times I've seen other people suggest it. I looked up the source and that's not what he said, but maybe you're reading for something that I haven't seen yet. But even if it was, I, when writers say that, I really don't take it as much. James Gunn kind of said pretty clearly that clay faces absolutely structured around the script that Mike Lannigan wrote. And Mike Flannigan script is why they even greenlit it. So I'm sure they made

some changes. I'm 100% sure they would. That's what adaptation is, but we'll see what happens when the movie comes out. All right, thanks for that, Brendan. Next up. Let's see, Emanuel writes, the thought of scene john interact with Superman and even Mr. Terrific is so exciting. What we saw in lanterns brings new depth to guys decision and Superman really elevates his character. I'm still really fascinated, fascinated now more than ever before to find out. And I think we're going to find out in the next episode or two. How does guy end up with house ring? By the way, I still don't think how is dead. I got nothing to back that up with other than that's just my theory. I could be totally wrong. Who cares? But yeah, my theory is I still don't think how is dead. Maybe I'll change my mind in the next couple episodes, but I still don't think he's dead. Anyway, so I'm going to be really curious to see how they handle this whole thing. And are they going to have two green lanterns

in the universe? If they ever bring Kyle Rainer, and we're going to have three green lanterns in the universe, it's going to be interesting to see where they go with this. All right, Lord Zuko writes, love Lithgow, but he doesn't work for me as Dumbledore. Oh, I 100% disagree. I think you're dead wrong on that. Your opinion is no less valid than mine. I'm just saying minus totally different than yours. He totally works as Dumbledore. And by the way, you've only seen two lines of dialogue from him. So I would take a breath. I would also take a breath and don't get too excited about it. I just love the casting because he is a one of the world's great actors. I mean, he's a, he's a like literally a universal level kind of actor. So he's going to be, I believe he's going to be great as Dumbledore, but don't get too invested in after seeing two lines of dialogue. I wouldn't get to, but I think he's going to be a great Dumbledore. All right, thought new rights. Have you ever read the script for Chronicle 2? I never did. I love the original Chronicle. Loved it. Like I was so overfound footage movies. That was all started by the Blair Witch Project,

and then all of a sudden there are 50 found footage movies. And I didn't even want to see Chronicle because it's just yet another found footage, but I loved Chronicle. And I wanted to see another one. Now it fell apart for various reasons, but no, I never did read. I don't even know for sure that that even completed a script for the second one. I think he did, but no, I, I never read it. All right, Mitch writes, even my mom is watching lanterns and she doesn't keep up with anything in that world. Listen, that one of the neat things about lanterns is when they came out and said that it was going to be true detective in the D's universe, I'm like sure, sure it is. Like it'll probably have like a mystery or something, but it's, it's not going to feel like true detective. It feels like true detective. It actually really, they delivered. It feels like true detective in a D's universe and I'm incredibly impressed with image. All right, next up. Everything movies writes. I think Doomsday being filmed without a written script is totally fine,

and it was filmed with a written script. Just some gaps of dialogue that they let the actors improvise. It absolutely had a fully fleshed out script. Okay. The Russo's do what their films do that with their films, especially the big superhero crossovers. They said this doesn't concern me at all. It concerns me a little bit, but again, keep in mind the outline, the structure of the story, all that stuff was in stone and on a page. Otherwise, they wouldn't even know what location or go to to shoot a scene. It was all there. The only part that they left ambiguous was some dialogue to let the actors improvise. The actors did not improvise the story. They didn't make up the stories they were going along. They already had the story. It was just a matter of letting them improvise some dialogue. Now again, if there's anybody I'm going to trust with that, it's this group. It still does make me a little bit nervous. I'm not going to lie, but again, it's mitigated a bit by the fact that it is these people and they've had a lot of success doing it

that way. All right. Thanks to that, everything. Next up, Troll McGaton sends in a $20 super chat. Thank you so much, man. He writes, John, I finally watched the Mandalorian. Oh, you mean Mandalorian movie. My God, how the F. Did you sit through that crap multiple times? The most boring movie of all time. No story, no mystery. Weakest fights ever. How did you not fall asleep? My buddy Ryan, who went on that movie meet up tour with us when we saw Mandalorian five times did fall asleep a number of times through the movie. Let's be clear, though, it is not the most boring movie of all time. I've seen many movies more boring than the Mandalorian. The Mandalorian was boring, but it was not anywhere near the most boring movie of all time. Some of the action was okay. Like the whole opening action sequence when he's breaking into that hot world kind of former imperial base and taken out the imp... That was a pretty good sequence. That was pretty good.

It's not a good movie. Not a good movie. Yeah. And again, I was never really clear on what the wisdom was and even making that as a movie. I just never understood it and yet it totally played out that way. Unfortunately. Anyway, thanks for having that in Troma again and thank you for supporting us on that level, man. Appreciate it. All right. Next up, Draco also sends in a $20 super chat. Draco, thank you, man. Appreciate that, dude. And Draco writes, what are your thoughts on the lie? Oh, okay, I'm not really going to answer your question because I've already got this on the topic list for tomorrow. So we're going to talk about in depth tomorrow, but I'll finish reading your question. What are your thoughts on the live action Dungeons & Dragons TV series that is in the works at Netflix? Apparently, it's based on Ravenloft storyline. I really liked the Baldur's Gate 3 game and the D&D movie from 2023. I'll just say that by the way, did you see who's behind it? Maybe a little Oscar winner behind it. Anyway, I look, you know, you guys know I'm a Dungeons & Dragons

player. I love D&D. I've been playing Dungeons & Dragons literally since I was 14. I've been playing since I was 14. Am I very first character or a wizard named Zap? Because I was 14. Anyway, yeah, I'll just say I love it. Love it. Baldur's Gate 3 might be my favorite game of all time. I think it might be the best video game ever made. And I love that Dungeons & Dragons movie. I really did. And there is no more richer canvas to make a world out of than Dungeons & Dragons. So I'm very excited. Let's see what we'll, but again, we'll talk more about it on the show tomorrow. Thanks to that, Drake. I appreciate that, man. All right. Alfonso, what's with all you guys sending a $20 Super Chats? Thank you, man. Alfonso also sends in a $20 Super Chats. Thank you for the support, man. And Alfonso writes, Hey, John, do you think James Gunn could replace Fiege someday? Yes. Or team up as his right hand to keep building MCU cosmic stories. I've been watching you for

years. Love your work, man. Thank you for everything you do. Well, thank you for that, Alfonso. And yes, I totally could see that happening. I honestly think that is one of the prime options for James Gunn. Once I believe he leaves DC in 2027. That win is contract runs out. I think he's going to have, look, if, which I believe he will, but if it's still an if, if James Gunn does decide to leave DC, which I think he will, then he's going to literally have every studio lineup and offer him whatever he wants. Just like what happened last time he became a free agent. So they're going to offer him whatever he wants. I think one, not the only, but I think one of the most appealing things for him would be remember him and Kevin Feige are very, very tight. They're very tight. And you know, I believe Kevin Feige has a date circled on his calendar

of when he's going to leave Marvel. I mean, he's, he's just been there long enough. I don't want him to leave. Don't get me wrong. But I think he's a creative. He's accomplished everything he could possibly accomplish at Marvel. I think there are fewer days ahead of him at Marvel than there are behind. And I think he's going to have new mountains to climb, new challenges he's going to want to tackle. But if he's going to do that, I think he has to have a succession plan in place. And I think James Gunn is the most logical succession plan. So yeah, I could totally see that. Totally. And now there are other things that could happen to. There are going to be other options on the table, but I absolutely Alfonso. I really do think that is going to be one of the most tempting offers for him to go and take. All right. Next up, thanks again, Alfonso. Isaac writes, hey, John, I saw a Korean movie called Callini and it was fantastic. It was made from the creator of Train to Busan. I know that movie. And I'm for. I'm freezing on which one it is now.

First of all, Train to Busan. Remember how I said when I watched Chronicle, I watched Chronicle at a time that I was already kind of over found footage movies. Train to Busan was kind of the same thing for me in the sense that I came to train to Busan being over zombie movies. Like because I'm sorry, but at the end of the day, all zombie movies are basically the same. Quality levels can be different, but essentially it's all the same thing. And I was kind of over it at the time. And listen, Train to Busan is still just a zombie movie, but zombie movies can be better than others. And it was one of the best I've ever seen. Train to Busan is just a thrilling, thrilling movie. I just loved it. And by the way, we got one of our journals. One of the journals came out of

that movie too, as a matter of fact. All right. And I think Callini is, is it not the follow-up? Does it like, does it not take place like a few years after Train to Busan? I'm probably not even remembering it right, but at any rate. All right. Next up, Trolmageddon writes, please tell me Supergirl is better than Mandalorian. I'm legit angry today. I haven't been more disappointed in movies since Darkness Falls in the 90s. The Tooth Fairy Horror movie. Again, I don't think Mandalorian was that bad. I think Mandalorian was bad. It's a bad film. It's a bad movie. I don't think it was that bad. You know, Supergirl to me, I put it on the same level as Mandalorian. I certainly don't think Supergirl is one of the worst comic book movies. I mean, it's far better than the ilk of Craven, Madame Webb, Morbius. I mean, it's way better than those. It's better than Ant-Man

in the Lost Quantumania. It's better than Iron Man 2. It's better than, you know, for the dark world. It's not, it's not gutter trash, but it's a bad movie. It's a bad movie. It's not good. If you're somebody who watched it and you did like it, awesome. To me, it was not good. So I kind of put in the same level as I do with Mandalorian and Grigu. Again, I think Mandalorian and Grigu had some upside. I think it had some redeeming qualities. There were moments of the film that I enjoyed, but just overall, it just wasn't good. I kind of put Supergirl on the same level as that. That it is to me at any rate. All right. GK Beetle writes, Harrington is not Black Knight because Noah Joupe is, no, no. Yeah, no. I mean, in the infinity of the multiverse, is that conceivable? Well, of course, it's conceivable, but I really

don't see that happening. Now, if you are right, though, we get to see Gerwars and that's what happens. I will remember this day, GK. All right. Rick, 302 writes, Hey, John, I love your breakdown of the movies coming out in September. Thank you. You should do that at the beginning of every month. You know what the funny thing is? I intend to do that at the beginning of every month, but then the beginning of a new month comes and I totally forgot about it. And then by the time I remember, it's like, you know, the fifth and it's too late to do it. But yet, I usually intend to do a breakdown of all the movies coming out in a month. I just usually forget. So I'm going to, I'm going to start putting it in my actual Google calendar. So I remember to do that. But thank you for that. Yeah, I had a good time breaking down the September movies. Thank you for that, Rick. I appreciate that. All right. Justin Davis writes, um, let's see. Hey, John, I'm reading more of these days as and opposed to your rule on book based movies. I now love to read the book first. I know a lot of people do that, man. Uh, I now love to read the book first. I'm currently reading Victorian

Psycho because that trailer looks amazing. Yeah, listen, I, I am absolutely not the norm. I, for those of you that are always talking about, I have a rule that if a movie or TV show is coming out based on a book, I will not read that book. Now, the reason I do that, is I have always believed and I found this to be true. That the reason you hear a lot of people say the books better than the movie, whenever I hear somebody say that, almost 100% of the time they read the book first. So you now approach the movie, not on its own merits, you're approaching the movie already with the book in your head and how you picture it being and which parts you want included and how you envision that thing looking and how you imagine this scene being shot, like you approach it with

that instead of approaching the book or approaching the movie on its own terms. Conversely, I have often found when people say they prefer the movie over the book, most of the time those people saw the movie first. And when the book doesn't line up exactly with the movie, which was their first experience, now of course there are exceptions, there are people who read the book first that prefer the movie and there are people who saw a movie first before they read the book and and prefer that 100%. I just found in my experience that the majority of people who say they prefer the book over the movie or the show read the book first and the majority of the people who say they prefer the show or the movie over the book watch the show or the movie first. I am a movie guy first. So when a movie is coming out, I want to make sure or show I prefer letting the movie stand on its own, be a clean slate when I go in and watch it and judge it on its own merits,

not by my preconceived notion because I read the book first. Now I broke my rule recently with Project Hail Mary. Yeah, I did. I did that for Project Hail Mary, but that's why I do it. But for a lot of other people, that's just me though. That doesn't mean anybody else should approach it that way. So I think you're going to find that a lot of people approach it the way you do, Justin. That makes sense. That makes sense. All right. Next up, Mon Cole writes, Hey John, have you seen the new movie, buddy? Nope. And you know what? I'm not going to see it. I'm not going to see it before it hits home video because like today, the plan today is for me to see three movies. And they're all new releases. I'm supposed to see on slot today by any means. That's a new Yeh-e Abdul-Mateen and Mark Walbert film and the new Andrew Garfield movie, The Apparizing. I'm supposed to see all three of them today. So I have no time to see, buddy. And you know me, if I can't review a movie the day it comes out or like within the first day or two that it comes out,

then I don't end up reviewing the movie. So I got to put my attention. So I unfortunately missed it. Jonathan saw it and liked it. I know I was talking to Chris three C films earlier today. He saw and he liked it. But I'm not going to get a chance to watch it now. So I'm just going to have to wait for it to come out on streaming. Unfortunately, my loss. All right. Everything movies writes. By the way, John, I mixed up Noah Joupe and Noah Schnapp yesterday. I actually really love Noah Joupe from The Wonder. That's my bad sorry. I never saw The Wonder. I get the only thing I've really I remember him from obviously is from the Quiet Place movies and most recently as a more grown up dude in Hamnet. That's the only one I ever saw him in. So I don't really have a lot of background on him for anything. So I've never seen Wonder. So that's so no worries man. Thank you for the follow up on that. All right. General Joe writes was watching Terminator 2 re-release the other day and realized that Alan Richon would be perfect casting for a Terminator

reboot. Thoughts? Yeah. I could see. I mean, let's be real. The role of the Terminator does not a great thespian require. You could put any huge muscle bound terrifying intimidating looking guy in the role of the Terminator. Especially if you're talking about Terminator 1 Terminator 2. Not a lot of high level acting needed, right? So you can really put anybody in there now. Alan Richon is a huge muscular intimidating looking guy. So yeah, he could do that. But I think you don't need an actor of his caliber in order to do that to be honest with you. But yes, if they announced it tomorrow, which would be a bad idea to announce a new Terminator movie. But if they did and they announced Alan Richon as the Terminator, yeah, I'd be totally down for that man. All right. Geo the one writes, I'm a bodybuilder and I'm telling you Dave in two months, he's going to be like 8,085% of his old self muscle memory is a real thing. Oh, I agree. But he is not going to be

that same guy that he was. He is not, I don't care how much more time you give him. I don't care how much more time you give him. He is not going to be ever again, this guy. He's not going to be that guy again. He's not. Muscle memory is a thing. And that's why if you guys remember when we talked about it before, when they cast him, I said, look at his age is going to be hard, but his genetics know how to carry that weight. Muscle memory is you would say is a thing. And that's why I think he's been able to get back into the shape he has. But I also think it's a fantasy world you're living in. If you think he's going to look like that again, that's, that's not 15 more pounds. That's like 80 more pounds. He's not his at mid 50s. He's not doing that. He's going to look great. He's going to look fantastic. He's going to look night and day different from the guy on my immediate left here

at the at the Toronto National Film Festival for sure. But he ain't ever going to look like that guy on the far left. He's never going to look like that again. But it's just that's just human genetics man. I mean, at least certainly not in the next two months. Not in the next two months. He's, he's definitely not going to do that. But gains. Yes. He'll look better, but he's, he's, he's not, he's not going to look like that again. He's never going to look like that again. All right. Next up, Thomas Havis writes, John, what's your thoughts on Woody Allen making a new movie that starts filming in October? Also, do you think he should retire since he's 90? I don't think anybody should retire because of their age. People should retire because they think they've done it long enough and they don't want to do it anymore. Like Clint Eastwood kept making quality movies right up until he did retire and he's in his 90s. Like, and I don't think, I don't think

Ridley Scott should retire because he's in his late 80s report approaching 90. I think he should retire because he's in his 80s approaching 90 and hasn't made a good film other than one in almost 20 years. I mean, that's why I think he should retire. Woody makes really good movies. Now, we can get into the controversy surrounding Woody Allen. That's above my pay grade. I'm not going to get into that. But listen, he's a gifted storyteller. He's a gifted filmmaker. And if he still thinks he's got movies to make that are good, go for it. Other controversies notwithstanding, of course. All right. Geo the one. Right. Store versus Superman. Who wins? You're the writer. Superman. Yeah, I love Thor and I love Hulk. But Superman. Yeah, it's to me, the pecking order is Superman Hulk Thor. Superman is Superman. He's just that's just it. And very clever because you know, Geo, that

whenever somebody asked me and I'm glad you caught this, whenever somebody asks those types of questions, my usual first answer, which you clearly know is it depends who's writing it. If it's a Thor writer writing it, they're going to write the Thor wins. If it's a Superman writing it, they're going to write that Superman win. So very clever to make sure you throw it in your the writer Superman Superman is Superman. I mean, he's just it. That's it. That's the top of the food chain. It's Superman. Yeah, another writer can come in and say, well, due to his magical abilities and the thing that the thunder and blah, blah, blah, blah, he did you can do that. You can and I'm not going to bitch about it if he did. But yeah, to me, it's just Superman. He's Superman. And I don't even I think straight up, there's a reason Hulk is world is world breaker Hulk in the MCU. It's Hulk in Marvel. It's Hulk. And then probably Thor to me. But yeah, if it's I'm the writer of that, Geo, and again, different people can write different ways. If I'm the writer

of that, it's absolutely Superman. 100% is Superman. And all right, guys, that will do it for today's installment of the John Campy Show.
