And I really hate seeing that because you start normalizing Nazis out there and you know you're normalizing experiments that create super soldiers that start to become human killer machines with no emotions. It's a slippery slope. It's a very slippery slope. And before you know it, we are there. This has got to stop now. So, thank God Adam Wingard made a movie to show us on future. We do not cease in this Nazi stuff over here. Came out this movie called Onslot, which is exactly what I just described. You have Nazis that were brought over to America by our government and they decided to start working on super soldiers instead of getting Captain America though. You got my past on that. You got your ass hole who just loved killing with no remorse, no feelings. That was a mission and somehow they told them to kill but they didn't tell them what the

2:02target is. I went to stop. Yes. The idea that they could go into a civilian population and still kill without remorse. Yes. And they sent them to one of the most dangerous places in America, trailer parks. So they could go down that trailer park. And when people can barely pay the rent in that trailer park, you can't even tell if they're alive or dead already. Yeah. I don't make no difference. We have mission to tell. So they go in this trailer park and wreck havoc. But all that stands in that way is a mother who has a military training. Might even have some connection to these killing machines. There's three of them on the loose as you can see right there. And she might be the only one to stop them before they wreck havoc with their Onslot upon the rest of the world. How does that work out? And Betty yet, how is the movie? Because somebody saying that shit sounds crazy. Well, let's go ahead and take a look at this trailer for Onslot. And we will be back.

He's one of the main killers in here. But anyway, I asked for the film. So you can look at this in pretty much tell what kind of movie this is. And we've used the term, I've used the term grindhouse for many films recently. I've described many films as midnight movies, schlockfest, grindhouse films. And I have to say that this one is probably the grindhouseiest movie that I've seen so far. It's intentionally very silly over the

And it does all these amazes and influences from all these action films, sci-fi films, horror films, I probably cost more money than this right here because this is this is a lower budget film. Because like a lot of grindhouse movies out there, those movies with low budget, this feels sort of in the vein of that probably on purpose. But this ain't a micro budget film. They show it on IMACS, not like a true grindhouse movie. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No grindhouse movies in all IMACS. No, they were in shitty theaters. Yeah. Where the flow was sticky with something you don't want to know. Yeah, this is pretty much a grindhouse movie given the Hollywood treatment. Not a huge, huge budget, but definitely an an a cheap movie. And it's an it's an A24 film. So you know, A24 probably knows good and well, what they're investing in and putting out there. Because this has this does have a they're probably

7:12feels like lower budget. I mean, you can tell us well shot. You can tell that it has good production value. But it has the if it's in a reason why it feels like a cheaper film. It's not because it looks cheap. It does not. It's because there's a very indie style of filmmaking that goes on to this, I think Adam Wingard, who is a director here. Listen, he could have gone on and made something bigger. You know, the man is just coming off of I think two guys, the versus King Kong movies. You don't get no big. That damn monkey costs a lot of money to fight that lizard over there. And the third one on the way. Yeah, exactly. And he probably want to get away from doing the big movies and get back to, you know, the smaller kind of roots. No, that's exactly like you're next and the guest. Yeah, yeah. He did your next and the ghastles and movies that put them on the map and get them got these big projects over here. But man, with this movie, he he just wanted to have he just want to have fun. He wanted to free them to just go and be crazy with the filmmaking. And this has the spirit of someone who so keep saying,

8:14it's not a little budget, but for me, it seems like it has the spirit of someone who just raised just enough money to make a movie probably their first film. And they have limited resources, they have limited locations. So they're more interested in playing with the film making process, showing off the effects that they got, showing off the blood. You know, in other words, there's a no deep story because the story is off the day they're not interested in. The script is centered around how many scenes can we use, can we shoot people in and use these squibs that we bought. Yeah, yeah, and believe me, we bought a shitload of shit. Bring that truck to you. Yeah, we bought all their head love. How many squibs you want? Yeah. Oh, yeah. So I love that he's still fanboys out with this movie. Like this, it really is something where I'll tell you right now, either this is going to be something that is too over the top, probably in the effects and violence and blood area and not enough of a story I've scripted in there for you. But this is a

9:19guy who's just fanboying and making something like he's a kid. And because he brought in all the stuff that he loves, including people that influence his film making, our movies, the people in that influence his, his, his, his, his, his need to be a director like Michael Dine, Dean, who's in, you know, if you know from nothing else, aliens and terminator. Yeah. Now, so it's just the same dude that hung out with Erkhoff. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Carl Winslow. He says you know what this ain't so bad compared to to fucking Erghoff. But yeah, Carl Reginald, yeah, Reginald Bill Johnson, man, before he was dealing with that little nerdy black boy next door, he was hanging out with Bruce Willis and Die Hard, man. Now, you know, he was helping, helping save the, the, the, the, the corporate building. He even nerts out with comedy. Two of his favorite comedy duels are two of his favorite people

10:21in a comedy duar. Tim Mineric. And you have one part of Tim Mineric in here, Eric Warheim. It's co-backs, who is not as bad as, he comes across in that pit. That's right there. Don't let that past of him even a little bit. So because this is so centered on action and blood and fanboying out, there's just not much story here. And it's almost like a film from a first time director are an early director, you know, who made something for a lower budget studio. Or as I said, had a lower budget and just wanted to really, really push the limits of what they could do, what they have. So happy on action and it's so light on story, I will tell you that. And don't, don't think that it's the quality of this movie. I would just say think about a, a, a, a, a, a, Terminator. Think about a direct director, this James Cameron. Think about James Cameron, who didn't have a whole lot when he made Terminator and just kind of centered on action and a cool story, except this

11:24is Terminator without all the things that made it great. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You know, you know, my, yeah, don't expect this level of of writing here, this ingenuity, the kind of that spawned sequels and yeah. No, this, this is something where he just wanted to go in there and just blast people. He couldn't, he couldn't afford a, or maybe he could afford a robot, but he's like, I ain't worried about that. I'm gonna put these dudes in army suits and give them some guns. I just have them shoot everything that they cross. So yeah, it just feels like they ran for what they wrote for what they had. We got blood, we got trailer park, we got a gas station, we got a truck, we got some cool suits and a dude with a ball cap and a cape, you know, let's see, we can do with that. And you know, they bane that script by probably a couple of days. So you've been generous. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know, but yeah, Martin, Martin is not a fan I can see. Yeah, I have no love for this movie at all. Day zero. Because I see a lot of genuine low budget, you know, kind of horror movies like this midnight movies.

12:28You know, if you go to enough festivals or things, you see them all the time, but these are people who genuinely don't have the resources or, or there's a like, like, this is a movie that's trying to go like, remember those movies from the video store? I'm capturing them. It's like, yeah, mother fucker, you and 1500 other people out there doing a homage to the video store era and the grindhouse era. And it's like, it's not novel anymore. Y'all are just masturbating. Yeah, yeah. And that's what that's what all this is. Like, yeah, all the things that could make a movie that makes a movie something you want to watch. It's just not there. It's like, this is only for people who are Adam Guingard fans because otherwise, it's like, man, you just, you're just doing a more expensive, but paler imitation of the kind of bullshit movies that other people are doing. I don't mean the originals that were made. I mean, other directors. And some first time directors, low budget directors who are going like, hey, remember this? I was like, yeah, I remember back when I was, yeah, I didn't

13:28have, you know, when I could get something like this from the video store because I was a kid, it was fun, but you can do better. Like, you could still have that same sensibility and do better. Do do more. There's been other movies. It's like, it's not like I'm a prude like I really liked they'll kill was it? They kill you all. And and and and boy versus world. They're all out to kill you. Yeah, the one with zazzy bits that came out. They will kill you. Yeah, yeah, yeah, they will kill you. Yeah, yeah, you know, those are those are real bloody movies, but and they're really inventive in how they how they shot how the action works, how there is a story there. It is like some character pull you along. It's not deep, but it's enough to hang your hat on and want to go with it. And this was just all right. It's there from from the beginning. It sets itself up as a perverse cartoon with Dan Stevens wearing a obvious ball cap and a and a terrible accent.

14:29And you know, early on, you're like, what is this? But okay, maybe it's a comedy? Not really. And and it's also I'm I don't know. I'm getting the it from these movies where you watch them. You can tell like the name actors, they had them for a day and they shot the one to two scenes. And then, you know, they're they're gone. And then the the rest was just like I just felt watching a lot of movie. I was just waiting for it to be over. And we're back. Streaming on peacock. I didn't I didn't yeah, I didn't uh, which I could see because I don't like I said this movie is made

15:36for a specific crowd. And I'll get into that a little bit. And I did not hate the movie. The parts of it that I like, but there was some disappointment with me. Uh, because it did start out sort of weird and cartoonish. You talking about Dan Stevens. Dan Stevens started out the movie as the Nazi scientists who was pulling the program together. And you can see that he went over the top of his costume. He's looking like a dude who's dressed up as his favorite anime character at Comic-Con. This crazy ball cap all right here. And it and and yeah, starts out with him being weird. He got his woman replayed by Rebecca Haul that she's doing weird fetish stuff. Kinky fetish stuff would have feet to him. And and and and it is very cartoonish. Again, on purpose. And I thought all right, interesting. Yeah. You know, this is this is going for this. This is outlandish. Sure. I like it. Hey, I just saw Bart of a buddy. Yeah. I know I like crazy shit. So I was like, Oh, yeah, let's bring on this weird shit right now. Yeah. If I'm taking a side,

16:38I did not get to see that part as much as I want to people. I'm just going to tell you something right now. This is the first time I actually said, damn, the new Alamo sucks. People I'm trying to get into this probably the craziest part. The most interesting part of the movie with this dude. First of all, the screening was set up to where it was two movies in a row. You only get four hours to park. So I had to rush out to go move my car. I barely rushed back in. I know if I'm on leave out the page twice from my car. And then I sit down and now the movies are already started. I'm going to be here for a while. I haven't eaten all day. I got to get something to eat. Yeah. And I heard here I have my phone trying to get the QR code under my jacket without disturbing everybody. I'm just like, what's the case? I can't see shit. Yeah. Yeah. And you know with these with these people, if you do that, even though they tell you the Alamo, use your phone for the QR code, even though you're not supposed to pull your phone out. At least that's what you used to say. You know people are going to be like, could you please get your light off? Yeah. Just get the goddamn hamburger already. Yeah. It took me 10 minutes to get more order to try to get this

17:43to recognize the QR code. So I don't know what the fuck he was doing the whole time. I mean, yeah, you saw enough. You saw the fetish stuff and you see him going there and just yeah, talking to him. Cause he ain't in the movie that long. No. But but once we move on from this right here, him and his experiments and his whole experiment, they're doing with the crazy super soldiers. The movie goes from weird to being pretty routine. And it's like, it's a tunnel shift that I'm like, why, if you're going to do it, stick with it. Right. Right. Like the weird cartoony stuff. I was like, I was like, all right, I'm strapping in. Let's let's see where you go with it. Yeah. And then it was just the same thing. Oh, right. Because you've seen this before. And I'm not saying that you can't see it again. Don't get anything new. Like I said, man, look, universe of soldier, old terminator out there. It's assault on pre-seek 13. If you like siege movies, is even something like feast, real problem. If you want to go to Westerns, if you don't know what feast is, it was that project green light movie. Oh, okay. Where these people are at a diner out in the middle of nowhere. And then

18:48they get us tagged by some creatures. It kind of felt like that sense of feels like it's probably on a lower budget. But yeah, it's a tumble shift, man. I think even then it could have worked if your characters are great. I mean, that's what really makes movies. Nobody's asking for anything new. And I get anything new. And you know, every now and then we're blessed to have that. But most of the time, it's like, hey, you just give us great characters to remember. Maybe something unique that you did or yourself with the story. Then that's cool. But that's not really the case, man. You know, all these characters are, they're all exaggerated to fit the tone of the film. But and there's nothing wrong with that. But first of all, most of them are there a certain one purpose. And that's just to die. Those that lasted, I didn't really hate them. Some of them I liked. I mostly laughed at some of them, but whether that was supposed to or not. But they were passive to me. They won't stick with me when I leave the theater. It's nothing that I walked out like, damn,

19:49that's a that character's going to be a cinema icon. No, it's like, no, you know, they're Ripley. I've seen it before. You know, you know, then that is, I will say that, Adria, Arjanna, that probably has some of the best character moments just because she's a mom and she's given purpose. And I do like the scenes that she has with her daughter. I did also like this actor Drew Starski. He plays a government agent, sent a clean up the mess. I mean, I liked him, but he seemed like part of the weird part and they didn't do anything with him. No, like for all of all that big setup with him, he did nothing. No, he just brings in the little bits of weirdness that we got a glimpse of before. And so he's just kind of a leftover, but because I like those parts, I was like, I wish we did have more of him. So the action is the main priority of the movie. And I know you're going to disagree in that school, but I actually thought the action was done well. You know, the stuff that was done the trailer park, I actually thought was cool. Again, if you want to use a limited area, use it well. And I thought

20:51that the movie did it pretty well because I thought what they, what I liked is that they had, you have these trailer parks and the trailers that end there and these people, they eventually have to leave these trailers because they're so small because these guys were tear through it. And so I liked that when they would have to leave the trailer and walk around and try to hide in certain areas. And I really liked this scene with a little girl who's hiding under the trailer. I thought that they weren't used that space well when they were never being hunted by these guys and they're having to eventually leave and maneuver around the trailers. I liked that part. I thought that that was some of the most creative stuff in the film. So, you know, I mean, I might not like that, but this character's goodbye on plot armor. Oh, yeah. Well, yeah, you know, I mean, you could tell, exactly. You tell who's going to live, who's going to die. Maybe this person's going to make it, and you'll probably be right. I don't know. I like I said, I didn't, I didn't hate the film. And I understand why you would because you're right. It's nothing original. If you go in there and you've seen all before, you'd seen it better. There's a chance that, oh, yeah, sure. You, you will probably

21:53not like this walk out saying, yeah, I've seen too much of this. And most of the time, I've seen it done better than this. I think that for myself, this is, this is, you already said it to. This is, this is really a midnight festival movie. You know, it's a, it's a, it's a genre festival film. You know, it's meant for that crowd that they go to like the crowd that did go to the Alamo Draft House in its heyday and went to these movies where they would encourage the crowd to go there and be into this film. They would encourage you to drink and have a rowdy time. You know, all these days are kind of gone, but that's the kind of movie that this is for. And you know, those, those people, they would go, they would be drunk off the festival or actual alcohol. They would have fun with what is there just to give you straightforward action with a little bit of weirdness. So I would say outside of that, for the, well, for those people, I would recommend a matinee, probably lower end of a matinee. I still think for those people, it would, it would be

22:55fine for them. Those are the people that this is meant for, you know, and, and I can tell you, it is because those people were at the screening and they were having a ball with this. But I think for myself, and I didn't hate it, I actually like some parts of this. I actually, I actually, that was having fun with it. I guess that was just disappointed that it didn't really push itself or what it gave us at the beginning with the guarantee of something, or nothing in guarantee, the promise of something weird, doing something strange with this, doing stuff that, you know, gave it a little more personality. It didn't go there. But for that crowd that is enjoying this kind of genre type movie, this kind of groundhouse type film, I think it's being met in a low matinee. But for myself, I would give this a high rental. I would enjoy watching this at home if it came on. I wouldn't take it seriously. I know what it is. I know what exactly what it's doing. So yeah, it would be, be a high rental for me. Yeah. I mean, I could see a rental if it was, I thought I would rent it and enjoy it. But I wouldn't, I would probably turn it off in a way. And everybody watching it, you know, Animal Draft House. Yeah, that's the element for it, especially like you say, a genre film festival at midnight. Yeah. Because I've been to those and I've seen a lot of these,

23:58they, and they still left me with more than this did. Maybe, maybe it was on par. But the same time that was somebody who didn't have much money or didn't have a big filmography and they did the best they could and something they thought was fun. I can't give it a pass when it says, from the director of Godzilla versus King Kong, like two of those movies and other movies. I've never been a big family's movies, although I did like the guest. I like the guest a lot. So I haven't seen them. Yeah, that's the one I would recommend. That's how you're next. Yeah. So you're next at a midnight screening. But yeah, like I said, it's just, it's just too much. There's a glut of this kind of thing out there and any kind of passive, what it give it is, is destroyed by knowing the director and, you know, everybody at the theater was loving it because he was there. So there's a lot of star fucking going on. But, but this is the director who has a filmography and I max, are you fucking

So if you lean more towards something like this, if you like Adam Wingard's filmography, you know, up to Godzilla and your next thing, the chances are you might like this. It's a good test
