So much that I've been to in this bonus episode of Lockdown Thunder recapping this Golden State game you every day or snow in the preview. I said this was a must win game because you cannot afford of how tight the Western conference

3:04standings are. You cannot afford to drop a game like this to Golden State with the slate that you have coming up with how tight the West is, but also with how many contenders are on the docket for OKC moving forward, especially in this homestand. The Thunder in this game, no JW, no AJ, no Alex Kruso, no I heart, a late addition after our preview show, no chat homegrown, who was dealing with an illness, the Warriors missed stuff. Curry, Jimmy and Milton most notably did see Christophe Prasinkus play the second game ever for the Warriors after the trade deadline. So he did play in this game. But the Thunder really forced Golden State into a lot of early turnovers in this game, but a combination of missing some clean looks and returning the favor of back to back turnovers let itself to a tied game early on in the first quarter. Then the Thunder got that six point lead and the offensive processing started out for the Thunder really well in the first quarter. So many shots were just rimming simply out on them and it shots that you pause the film and you say that's a good look. That's a look that you're searching for under these circumstances with no JW, with no

4:08AJ, with no AC, I heart, chat, those are shots that you're searching for with this Thunder offense. It just didn't go your way. And the Thunder kept the Warriors in an arms distance for the most part in the first half due to their three point shooting, which was a huge difference. The Thunder started out six for 10 in the first half from three and that let them build a cushion out of intermission. They could not keep that cushion. The third quarter was extremely sloppy all throughout those 12 minutes. The shots didn't fall. The defense lapsed at times in the 50-50 balls for the entire second half really trended toward Golden State's direction. Wiggins at a timely offensive rebound in a three to start the fourth quarter to get some of that cushion back. A lot of Brooks Bonheiser in this game will talk about that more when we talk about shared McCain. But I thought that tonight the reason this game was so close was not for a lack of effort was not for a lack of talent. Obviously they were overwhelming in the talent department even with their short-handedness in this contest, but it was a lack of execution tonight for Oklahoma City, a lack of attention to detail.

5:08A lack would appear to be focused just in the sense of it's the easiest way to have a catch-all term for it, obviously they're going to focus them like they're literally trying, but they didn't have the details ironed out on this game. The offensive processing in the second half dropped off the face of the earth. It became really bogged down, really late for some. The defensive effort I thought still stayed there, but again, Golden State had some tough shots. They had some second chance points go their way, Golden State at the ball bounced their way more in the second half. I think that they got nearly every 50-50 ball. That's what it really boiled down to. Again like this, the thunder led wire to wire and it was the ugliest wire to wire when you can ever have, but you'd much rather when ugly the loose pretty you every day or know, I say that all the time. 6:11Isaiah Joe tried to come up and set up ball screen, SGA shook his head, no, wanted that isolation on Dremond and hit the dagger at 42 seconds left on a side step three. This was a March win. We're sitting here recording this on March 8th in the year of our Lord 206. This game happened on March 7th in the year of our Lord 206 and March the name of the game is survive in advance. That's what you have to do. Survive in advance. Okay, see while they're trying to fend off the spurs, while they're trying to hold on to the one seed in the west, while they're trying to just simply win games, they don't have to do it perfectly all the time. They didn't do it perfectly all the time. This was not a pretty game, a perfect game, a well executed game, but it was a win. A couple days down the line here, once you get into the emotions of the Denver game, the Boston game, all that you're going to remember is the Thunder 1, this game, and that actually had an MVP moment, that's all you're going to remember. You're not going to remember the sloppiness of the game. You won't remember how labor some of the offense got, but the Thunder at one point had

7:12a 14 point lead in this one. Again, Golden State never led in this game. There were two times where the game was tied, but the Golden State never got over the hump to take the lead. They tied it in the start of the first quarter. They also tied it midway through the third quarter, and it could not take the lead themselves. But Golden State, to their credit, they won the rebounding battle 47-42. It felt like the only guy to create a rebound was Jay Whale in this game. Golden State also won the turnover battle, a mark that usually goes OKC's direction. OKC had 14 turnovers tonight compared to Golden State's 11. OKC shot 42% from the floor compared to Golden State's 40. The Thunder shot 35% from 3 compared to Golden State's 31, but only made one more 3 in totality than Golden State. The free throw advantage was huge. OKC made 95% of their free throws, and Golden State made 61%. But another area that Thunder typically dominate points in the paint. Golden State had their way in the paint 42 points in the paint. 28 for OKC. You really felt the lack of chat, you felt the lack of eye heart in this game

8:14in trying to control the glass and trying to control the paint defensively. And this is the result you're going to get. When you try an NBA team without chat and eye heart, this is what you're going to get in the paint. Because those two guys are elite defending the paint. And they just did not have enough depth tonight in the front court. Had to play a lot of small lineups in this game. Second chance points also went to Golden State because they controlled the offensive glass for themselves. 16 points for Golden State and second chance points seven for OKC. Fast break points did swim to OKC six to four despite having 14 turnovers. I do think that the Thunder could have cleaned up a lot in this game. But you also have to work with what you got. And the ingredients that they had to work with today were more conducive to a bog down, a grimy, a gritty win. And the most important part is you get the win. And how about this stat for you? 9:19Following tonight's win, 104 to 97 against the Golden State Warriors. Oklahoma City has reached its 50th win of the season. This now marks the Thunder who have 10, 50 win equivalent seasons since 2010, most in the NBA. And if you're wondering about the equivalent verbiage there, the 1920 season, of course, was truncated because of the pandemic. I don't know if you've heard about that, but it's a pretty big deal, at least around from. And they were on pace, winning percentage, yeah, yeah, yeah, to get 50 wins. So you count that one. And they hold 10, 50 win seasons in OKC since 2010. That's pretty remarkable. That'd be remarkable for any franchise. Again, it leads the NBA in such statistic. It'd be incredible for any team, the Lakers, the Celtics, etc. But to especially do this in Oklahoma City, in a market in which the games rigged against you in a lot of ways.

10:19When it comes to team building, when it comes to tools, you have available to build out your roster. And to have this span, not just one massive era, but to have the KD and Rust teams, have to retool, get a 50 equivalent win season with Chris Paul, that have to retool and get what we now know as a budding potential dynasty, with Shay, with Chet, with Jaydub, to build it up that many times in this market, with this organization and this league, it's remarkable. And you've got to take a step back. You know, not like this where like, not everything was perfect. And they didn't play their best ball and not everything was great. You've got to take a step back and realize like how special that is. And really sink your teeth into what a remarkable journey that that is for this franchise and for this team. I thought that it was great for the Thunder to get to that mark. And now you got this kind of gimmick game behind you.

11:19You got this gimmick game behind you and you head to a slate that features three straight title containers. Denver Monday, Boston on Thursday, Minnesota on Sunday. SGA, I thought that he did a great job of creating shots that you want him to take. Now, was he perfect by no means? This was actually a pretty rough game by Shade standards. Starts out one for four in this game, even splits his first trip to the free throw line on top of starting one for four.

16:29And the warriors try to everything, everything to beat Shade. To put it in perspective, I mean, the warriors spent the possession, to try to stop Shade, were dream on green for an entire possession, was at the mid court Thunder logo leaning on Shade. And if you take away the warriors best and arguably only defender, besides Presengus, out of a play, and play four on four, that's usually an incredible result. And of course, the Thunder were short-handed of guys who could create off of that. But like that just shows you the command that Golden State and attention that Golden State put on Shade, the command that he has of his scoring gravity. There's also a play where Golden State traps Shade at the timeline. And then two more warriors are just like fully focused on climbing and trying to play the passing lanes and trying to harass Shade. And it left Shade able to make this jump pass to Joe who had the most wide open dunk in the lane that you will ever see.

17:31If you go to the professional photographers out there who shoot these NBA games, and you find a picture of that Isaiah, Joe, dunk, and you get it blown up on your wall. And you want to remember that dunk forever. People who walk into your humble abode and look at that Isaiah, Joe, dunk, are going to say nice fast break dunk, nice breakaway dunk by Isaiah, Joe. But little do they know it was at the half court setting. And it was because of how much you have to pay attention to Shade. And off of that attention, the Thunder really did a good job cutting off ball and letting Shade dice up Golden State, where you have like four assists and the second quarter alone. And then he had a silky smooth baseline jump or over dream on green to in the half with 12 points. You're thinking, okay, this is going to be the start of yet another crazy turnaround. We're sitting here on the lockdown Thunder podcast and we're telling you remember when Shade started at one for four

18:31and now he shot 60% on the game and had over 30 points. Like that's what it felt like you were in line for whenever the Thunder had figured some things out in the second quarter. But you know, in the third quarter, look, the shots, I think you can't this credit what Golden State did because at least that they can test the shots tightly. But even so, these were shots that yes, credit to Golden State, good defense. But these were shots that Shade's capable of hitting and shots that you actually encouraged for Shade. And it's like when you were looking at shot quality, if you were to grade shot quality on a curve, for Shade, these would be really good shots because of the difficult shot maker that he is. And tonight, they just didn't fall. Now they fell enough to get to 27 points. And this is how remarkable that Shade is. And Yokoj is at the same vein as well. This is why these are the two best players in the world. How remarkable Shade is is that 27 points, five boards, five assists, a steal and a block is considered a bad game for Shade. Because he only shot 40% from the floor and one for four from three.

19:34But it was as 125th Shade came with 20 plus points having him one shy of tying Wilt Chamberlain's record, which would be in line to do Monday against Denver if you can reach that plateau, which would be incredible. But I thought in this game, you know, the shots didn't fall from. He looked kind of gassed in the third quarter. You know, that's to be expected because I, you know, he's missed nine games. But you look at the actual days missed. It's been fortunate that like this has happened where he's missed like 20 something days of NBA basketball, but just nine games. Because of the all-star break and because of the time, theliness of the injury. But that's a lot of time away from basketball to where like, obviously, with the adrenaline wearing off and with the games returning, you know, was stacking up for him. He was gasped a bit in this game, no doubt about it. But you know, Shade's going to be the guy at the end of the game. And I thought that today gave you the perfect example. There have been times where some of you have typed the way like, well, why aren't you killing Shade for this three he took at the end of the game.

20:35With Shade's threes, it's simply playing the results. Because I'd ask those, those of you out there who fall in the line to that game. What comments, what tweets, what did you say allowed? Whenever Shade loaded up that three with a buck 30 left with 13 on the shot clock and missed it. You're probably thinking that he settled. There's a bad shot that it wasn't good. But then what'd you think? Whenever with, you know, 42 seconds left, he comes on the floor the next possession and calls his own number, drains the shot clock. Tells us, he had Joe to get out of here. Don't bring a ball screen over here. Get away. I want him. I want Drainmon Green. An isolation. And I'm going to bury a sidestep, gagger three on ABC. What'd you think of that shot?

21:36Because it's, it's one and the same. One went in and one didn't. But the process and the thought process to me is the exact same. The three you took with a buck 30 left, it was, hey, this is a game that's tight late. This is a game where we've not generated good offense for a quarter and a half. It's on me as the guy, as the MVP, as the best score in the league arguably, as the best player in the league arguably, it's on me. They get it done. I'm going to shoot it. And he missed it at a buck 30 left. But he shot it again. They hit the dagger and the moment from this game, that will be remembered. The only thing about this game that you have a chance of remembering in two weeks from now, much less two years from now, is that moment of Shay shaking off, I say, Joe, and hitting a dagger side step three. And that's why I have a hard time criticizing players like SGA, which is a very limited amount of players,

22:37but players like SGA for late game shot quality and shot selection. As a talent place, of course, and Shay does go for the kill shot and Shay loves the kill shot. But the reaction you had to the dream on green shot. Would have been your same reaction to the 130 shot. One of them went in one of them didn't. So don't let the result of the ball bounced off the rim. You'll kind of cloud how you think of it. Because to be quite honest with you, while I can really see your points of like, man, there's still 13 seconds left. Why that three, why then? It's about the context of the game. And you can't tell me that after watching this theme since intermission, this game tonight, that you thought they really could have stood to get a better shot off in 13 seconds than that Shay three with a minute 30 left, even though it went out, even though we didn't hit it. And so that's why I think that the context of like creating these superstars and their

23:41shot diets really matters. At the game selling free throws at the very, very end, 27 points, five rebounds, five assists, steal a block 40% from the floor, one for three from three, 14 for 15th, the charity striped 35 minutes flat for him plus three in this game and had his MVP moment MVP shot in this game. And now has a prolonged runway here of it got it done against Denver last Friday and over time, you know, you didn't play it over time, but you carried your team there. We talked about in that game recap, you every day, there's no this for a lot of that game with over time that he wasn't part of the overtime period, but the way that you got the overtime was by putting out their Shay and pray line up for Shay went out there and carried you. Got the win in a crimey grinded out fashion against New York. Got this win on National TV with the Shay shot. And now you've got another runway here of weeks where if you can take down Denver again, you can take down Boston with Tatum, if you can take down Minnesota, it continues to add to his illustrious MVP case. What a shot, what a way to wipe away the rare and efficient night

24:47where you shot 40% from the floor and make that the most memorable part of the game. And he's an act for doing that. Again, he starts many games one for four, one for five. And on all of a sudden, he wipes that away by still shooting 60% from the floor by missing maybe one or two times after that. Tonight, the way we wiped it away was hitting the shot. Another occasion did a good job in the sense of we've talked about the defense and the 50-50 balls and the ways that the warrior said second chance points. He's been at four steals tonight. Those are possession enders. Jay Whale. He had 14 rebounds, 12 of them defensive. Those are possession enders. Those guys were critical and the stops that you were able to generate. And those guys just a lot of credit. Case in on top of the four steals. He had a couple nice finishes at the rim and only missed one shot inside the arc. Went one for three from beyond the arc shot 50% in total in this game. I thought that the case in one of his best steals of those four was him jumping the entry pass that was a post up to KP and porzingus. You know, he thought he had him sealed. He thought he had positioning. He

25:48was in the post. And here's case. The timing on that, the hand-like coronation to maximize your wingspan. Like that was all great from case from all of us to get that steal. I thought that he's a Joe deserves credit too. Isaiah Joe knocked down his first catch and shoot three in the corner. Two drives to the rim two fows, including an an-one at the cup. And he made all his free throws, including getting the flagrant foul on Spencer early on in this game. He used some timely shots for this offense that felt like they were stalling at Nazim in this game. And he'd always be the guy to bust up that cold spell. Isaiah Joe would and he ended up with 18 points four boards, three assists, 41% from the floor and two for seven from three, a plus seven in this game. Only outdone by guess who? Take a guess right now. If you haven't seen the box score, take a guess. Aaron Wiggins plus eight and Brooks Barnheiser plus nine. Those are the only guys dealt with Isaiah and the box score plus minus. But I don't want to fly by the four rebounds because this was a game where you could really see that Isaiah Joe is the definition of tough. He's a tough tough player chasing

26:49loose balls, flying in for rebounds, getting banged up hit in the face. He's just going to put his body on the line to help this team and help this team win credit to Isaiah Joe for that. We talked about Jay Whale. I thought that Jay was awesome in this game. Knocked down a heavily contested three that arguably should have been in a foul and in one for for Jay. Well, he goes three for six from three with 12 defensive rebounds and 14 total rebounds. Listen, don't care about anything that's happened in this game. If you tell me that Jay will go three for six from three and I'll get 12 rebounds, he did his job. He did his job. It's as plain as day, simple as that. Good day, sir. That's all you need from Jay. Well, great job by Jay. Well, Ken rich, nice hustle plays, nice and one, really helped this team with the bench. Wiggins had a big put back in a steal. Brooks was solid. Now, here's the thing. Let's talk Brooks. So Jerry McCain comes in and to talk Brooks, we need to first talk McCain. Jerry McCain comes in and him and Jay will work that two men game or McCain comes off a DH show gets a re-screen from Jay. Well, takes that to the low block pops out the Jay will for a mid range shot, which just rattled out. That should have been a epikai light and instead

27:53is a halfway home and out shot for Jay. Well, but McCain comes back hits a catch and shoot three in the corner and then knocks down a slot three and then dribbles into a transition three at the pay comes in our logo for this team, which I thought was this was a sign of him showing more comfortability with this team, because previously you've seen McCain in those transition settings. Try to get to the rim and try to get down hill when you'd much prefer him just launch a three in transition and to do that in this game, even with the pay comes in our logo was awesome for McCain. And another catch shoot three in the corner that we mentioned before on a hard closeout, which like was a no dip didn't matter that dream on was bearing down on him, who's an excellent defender, by the way, flew in front offensive rebound on a possession that OTC got second chance points on, jumped out for a big contest lately, shot clock to force that shot clock violation. He had nine points, two rebounds and assists and everybody was left feeling the same way that cheer and McCain didn't play enough minutes tonight in a night where you could not

28:57muster up enough offense. McCain was great in his in his 12 minutes and needed more. I'm with you. I would have played Jared McCain more than 13 minutes myself. However, comma, I do see what the vision was with Brooks Bornhizer, or this is a game where I'm not even talking about the fact that the Warriors or a team that you should be. And you know, I'm not taking your opponent seriously. I'm talking about just like what the team wants to do. And how can you make this game as regulated and normal as possible? Because you have all these guys out, you know, chat, I heart, dub, AJ, etc. Yeah, all these guys out. How can you make the game as normal as possible? I think that the vision was probably, hey, let's use Brooks as that Alex Crusoe. He's that version of Crusoe where he comes enough to bench that a defensive spark lock it down the end of the floor and whatever he gives you offensively alike. And obviously, Brooks is not a very complete flushed out or additive player

29:58offensively at the stage of his career. And I'm not sure he's going to be. But in this game, he's a plus nine. And he had to assist one of them off the catch, you know, from the corner and kick out for a wide open three bang. Like he did his job in a limited role. And I think that I think that that was the thought process there. And perhaps that thought process isn't, isn't solid enough for you to agree with. But at least there was, I think a vision there for why you were playing Brooks. And you know, you let McCain play 13 minutes. This was a murkier game, let's just say, in terms of shot quality, in terms of offense. Perhaps you want to continue to try to bring McCain along in as comfortable as environment as you can, given the circumstances to continue to bolster that confidence from McCain.
