He's done a great job of it and whether it's in the faceoff circle or penalty kill, he's been a big part of our penalty kill. They're a penalty having a lot of success this year. And then just a leader and a veteran player that's so calm, like Con presence. So he's a big player, obviously that. And then sorry, Docker is also has an engine and big guy and has some boys at the puck in the corners for a young guy and for his size. And then just physicality that he led the Black Hawks and hits this year and coming in as a first year to be able to do that kind of poses well on teams is important. And he's one of those guys. It's like a fun goofy young guy that gets along with everyone. And I think he's accepted right away by all the teammates and vets, which sometimes isn't as easy to do as a young guy. You said Monday at the availability before the Conor Murphy trade was consummated that regardless of what happens in trade this week with the Edmonton Oilers, that the team has to play better defense. The manager do his part in terms of the culmination of the two trades that resulted in the acquisition of Conor Murphy, a second pair in right shot D, excellent penalty killer on the top PK unit in the NHL and then also acquiring a third line basically two way sentiment checking sentiment, defensive sentiment and an excellent penalty killer in terms of Jason Dickinson plus a little bit of energy and a guy that might have some more pop long-term in his game in Colton doc.

7:20Do you think maybe management's stunned their part to help Chris out here a bit in assisting in maybe defending a little bit debt because it was a priority. You gave a three minute answer at the availability of Monday stand. Well, I certainly hope so. That was the that was the game plan going into this week was to try to add some players that can help our team with the right mentality of the way they approach the game and then in conjunction with that we need the rest of our players who've been here to commit to a more well-rounded game. So I think it was always a dual approach. We were looking to bring some players in that have that in their DNA and then on top of that we're hoping to get our team to come together and play that style of winning style of hockey. So obviously at the time of that availability we didn't have any of those deals done

8:22just ironically enough. I got a couple of phone calls during that the media availability from Kyle Davidson and then as soon as we finished it then is when things really moved further along with Murphy to the point where we got that complete but as of the time we spoke we didn't have the deal done. We were talking but it moved quickly thereafter and then we revisited our conversations just yesterday when we were able to pull everything together to also add Dickinson and Doc. Okay so second-rounder in 28 for Murphy with the Hawks retaining half and I know I got some questions and we couldn't quite the full trade technically wasn't released until and there was the reasons why you know the player needs to be talked to from the you know the general managers from both teams often in these deals so maybe you can clarify this for me if I'm wrong. Usually the

9:22agent gets involved in the process as well plus the deals got to get registered properly but you get you end up giving up where I'm going with this is you end up giving up a first-rounder in 27 it is a lot of it is protected right one through 12 for that year. Okay. Walk us through maybe why it made more sense to combine the Magiapani and in the Chicago deal and maybe not end up giving you know two or three do you think of what a cost if you'd broken these trades up move Magiapani out in one deal and then made the trade for Dickinson and Doc at another deal would we've been possibly looking at you give it up maybe three seconds and a fourth or something like that and you elected to ultimately give up the number one who's up parlor maybe explain the rationale to our listeners. Sure. Yeah so after the Murphy trade our focus was a couple twofold really two or threefold I guess we were trying to move Magiapani out so that we would open up some cap room to make other moves

10:26so that was one priority and along those lines we had several conversations later that day and the following day about different alternatives and there were many teams in the mix there with different types of trades but all of them offered we're involving a second round pick going out to move that contract out so that was one thing we had several different teams we were talking to then we were looking for that third line center so there were other teams who had players available and in those conversations depending on how much they made there was the need for retention like if there was a player making you know a few million dollars in order to fit in our structure it would have required retention so that conversation was at least a second round

11:26pick depending on the way the deal struck out there may be multiple picks to get a player of Dickinson's caliber at half price and then we liked also the addition of a young player who's on his entry level contract that has the same attributes and yes so I guess for example each of those were in different teams let's say Doc was not with the black ox but it was on a different team you're giving up another draft pick to acquire him you could you know he was a second round pick so whether it was a second or a third you're looking at multiple draft picks you know at least three potentially four draft picks to accomplish that so then we you know we visited our conversations with Chicago and we were able to bundle it all together and in doing so you know we understand you have to pay a price to do that but when you add it up I think it just made more sense from

12:28our perspective to trade one pick get it all done get the players that we really liked you know we were also comparing Dickinson to some other players on the market and when you add up the player attributes that he has and the price tag you know it became pretty apparent that that was our focus and luckily we were able to make it happen with Chicago you made a substantial trade for Tristan Jari that saw Skinner Stewart Skinner and Brett Kulak go out and deal to balance the money out those guys were parts of Oiter's teams they went to back to back stand like a finals I think it's got to be stated that Tristan had a real good start his play has leveled off he's got to find his game I don't think there's any any wrong with saying that I'm getting questions here with the Oiter's look at another gold tenors move between now and tomorrow at one o'clock yeah I think you said well which is Tristan had a good start with us you got hurt then after that and I don't think he's

13:34you know he did come back from that and I think we had those back-to-back shutouts in middle of January but then from that point on our team didn't play great our goalies didn't play great so we need to recapture that and I think that's both on our team but also on the goalies too to get back to that level because we saw it early when Tristan arrived and then coming out of that injury he played some good hockey but then our team sort of fell off in conjunction with our goalies so there's no question we're looking for that to pick up and if you look at these the employers that we've added with you know the defensive mindset and the way that they play I'm hoping that's going to help our goal tenders be more successful all right I know you said at the availability of the day that you're going back with your pro guys and your assistant GMs and that sort of thing and evaluating maybe not a blockbuster deal but still a you know could

14:36you could you potentially take her between now and you know one o'clock evidence in time tomorrow yeah I think that we were still meeting as we speak actually you know just talking about what's out there and what might be possible I think I would say it's unlikely but I've been around long enough to know that things kind of come at you sometimes last minute so you have to be continuing to have those conversations and looking at your team and looking at options so maybe we are doing that we're going to continue to work it here until we get to the deadline I think you know it's it's probably unlikely but it's it's not impossible that we can make another trend let us enter a winnow mode stand and when you're in a winnow mode draft picks you know the end up losing that capital and that becomes a situation where it becomes even more important to go and find players out of Europe and NCAA you had a pretty good run last year

15:39I don't know if you can match the amount of guys you sign but is it safe to say we might have a couple of announcements between now and you know sometime maybe in in May between the NCAA in Europe yeah we we've had several players we've identified that are in the mix for contracts I think we're in those I guess final stages where we have to be very deliberate about making sure if we go to that step of actually making an offer but I think there's some guys that certainly caught our eye that we've been tracking for a number of weeks and months and now it's going to come down to those final stages of whether we decide to put forth an offer and if they want the oilers and not but I you know we want to be aggressive in that area and that's something we've talked about leading into the season we did have a good year last year we've we've seen some of those players you know cycling and even to the NHL with both Samansky and Hudson of Play games for us and
