National Girl Scout Day

0:00Today we're celebrating the organization that's been teaching girls that the final frontier is well within their reach. Welcome to the National Day Spotlight for March 12th. On March 12th, 1912, Juliet Desi Lowe founded the Girl Scouts with just 18 girls in Savannah, Georgia. Her goal was to get girls out of the parlour and into the world. That spirit of adventure has taken the organization all the way to the stars. Statistically, roughly 92% of all American female astronauts will once girls Scouts. From pioneers like Sally Ride, today's Artemis missions, these women credit the badges that earned in leadership, science and outdoorsmanship with giving them the confidence to leave the atmosphere. On Girl Scout Day, we celebrate over a century of G-I-R-L power, reminding us that when you empower a girl, you change the world. You know, I didn't realize that many astronauts had been Girl Scouts.
