The Trump administration says about a million people who signed up for Obamacare health insurance across 30 states are getting $500 rebate checks next month, allegedly because of overcharges by the federal exchange during the Biden administration. In a fact sheet, the White House claimed the Biden administration accumulated a significant surplus of funds that were not used to benefit the Americans who paid these higher premiums.
It's unclear where the money for the rebates would come from and whether congressional approval is required for disbursement. The refunds would go to consumers in 30 states who don't receive premium subsidies and purchase coverage through the federal marketplace called healthcare.gov that includes the state of Mississippi.
