Mat-Su Borough Assembly Overrides Mayor's Veto on Data Center Plan

The Matsu Burl Assembly voted this week to override Mayor Edna de Riz's veto on a plan to partner with the private company for a large data center, or high tech facility on public land. The 6-1 vote clears the way for Burl staff to help terror energy center corps, Scout partners. Earlier this month, the assembly first approved the resolution 5-2, assembly member Dmitri Fanov requested the override, co-sponsoring it with Ron Bernier, IS, only Stephanie Nowers voted against overriding the veto. The Mayor vetoed it over concerns about risks, saying the unvetted companies should not represent the Burl to outsiders. She urged reviewing properties first, and deciding on data center support. This sets up a two-year partnership using Burl resources, but it commits nothing on selling or leasing land. Sites could be near poor McKinsey, big lake, or the West Susitna access road.
