Making teaching exciting with Shailaja Venkatasubramanyan

About this episode

I continue my conversation with Shailaja Venkatasubramanyan.

In the first part, she talks about how she got into Information systems and her career spanning education and startup sectors.

How she balanced professional and personal demands and challenges.

How she never hesitated to get into new areas and was always ready to learn.

In this part of the conversation Shai talks about

  • Differences in teaching approaches for young adults and children
  • How she likes to learn when she is interested in a topic, and not for grades etc
  • People learn best when they are invested in it
  • I bring a lot of enthusiasm, by being funny and a pinch of entertainment
  • Giving interesting assignments (designing assignments that I would want to do)
  • Also taught a strategy class: lot of case studies, that had a lot of learning value
  • One of the aspects to address in teaching is to manage short attention spans
  • How teamwork is important even in academic courses
  • Trends and concerns related to Evolving Knowledge management
  • Her career tips
