MUSIC Back home, a much loved Melbourne restaurant is celebrating 40 years serving up delicious, authentic Italian food. Mario's opened in 1986 and remains a firm favourite with locals and celebrities. Up to four decades. APPLAUSE Loyal customers and staff celebrated a Melbourne institution, Mario's. Incredible to have come this far in today's world. Famous for its cakes, coffee and pasta. We come often to have a bloody marion at this time of the morning. Mario's founded by two friends, both named Mario, the tiny Fitzroy restaurant of Famous Ford for locals and celebrities, like Kylie Minneau. Kylie's been a frequenter, yeah, we love Kylie. Mario's made world headlines in the 90s when comic Jerry Seinfeld was denied a booking.

Jerry tried to make a booking here and we don't take bookings, so that's kind of a famous story, but we treat everyone the same. It's always great food, you always know what you're going to get, it's always well done, and it's casual and it hasn't got up itself yet. Today, devotees celebrated a rich history and a winning Italian formula. Liver. Liver! It makes the best liver with onions and bacon. Well, four decades on and very little has changed. Diners can still order cocktails for breakfast and breakfast for dinner, and that's strict no booking policy, well, it remains. When you get it right, why change it? You can have zucchinis on for a while, you know, exotic stuff like that, but otherwise no. While one Mario's retired, the other sees he's good for another 14 years. Torres Stalas said the news.
